Background

Anko Uguisu is a side character in Call of the Night. She is a private detective who specializes in cases involving vampires, and has made it her mission to kill all vampires.

Ten years ago, she went by her real name, Kyouko Mejiro, and was a member of a literature club at the school Nico Hirata taught the night class of. She became Nazuna Nanakusa's first friend until her father was turned into a vampire, killing her mother and forcing her to kill her own father. Afterwards, Kyouko quit school and disappeared.

Studied vampires for years to get her revenge on them, learning what their weaknesses are and came up with a plan to defeat all of them for good, which was only prevented due to a human intervening once he learned what her plan was), Pressure Points (Can strike pressure point that even harm vampires who are far above her in strength), Precognition (Analytical Prediction; Anko has shown in two different fights to be able to predict how a vampire will fight and what attacks they will do).

• Knife: Standard knife she uses against Akiyama to repeatedly stab him after she inflicted his weakness on him.
• Gun: A gun she uses as a lighter along with using it to shoot vampires, specifically shot Nazuna in her left eye, making it harder for her to fight.

Notable Techniques

• Detective Skills: As a detective, she is very skilled in finding information about specific people and even stalking them. Whether through deduction or investigation, she described Kou's life and personality with frightening accuracy, including small, trivial details.

• Knowledge of Vampires: Having spent 10 years hunting vampires, she has gained a decent amount of knowledge about them, though there are gaps; for example she didn't know that vampire could faze through solid objects until Hatsuka Suzushiro demonstrated said ability. Because of her father's death, she knows of their weakness, which is touching something from their human pasts. Even without killing them, she knows of a few ways to survive an encounter with them.

• Knowledge of Weapons: She knows how to handle a knife and attacked Akkun and Hatsuka with one (Although it was useless against the latter). She also knows how to wield a gun, owning a revolver.

• Foul Tasting Blood: Since she got her blood sucked by a vampire 10 years before the story started and didn't turn into one, it's now impossible for her to become a servant which makes her blood repulsive for any vampire who tries to suck it. She is aware of this and uses it to her advantage.

• Case Closed, Anko Edition: Anko unveils her self-proclaimed deductive genius and connects all the available dots into the most logical conclusion.

Standard Tactics: Anko develops plans to deal with the enemies at hand, choosing what would best defeat the enemy, even if it means her own death.

Weaknesses: Anko is suicidal, with her purposefully finding ways to get herself killed in her plans.

Note: Despite Anko fighting against vampires, there is no reason for her to scale, she specifically uses strategies of using their own strength against them, being capable of seeing their attacks due to this. It's also clear she's not meant to scale to vampire's when she jumps off the third floor and takes damage, along with her trying to use a bat against Nazuna Nanakusa, doing nothing to Nazuna. Thus she does not scale to 8-C.

• Anko is currently the only known human who knows how to kill a vampire.
• Her raincoat and smoking habit are likely inspired by the famous detective character Columbo.
• According to Anko, her feet are swollen because of her job.
• Because of her smoking habit, she has very short stamina, quickly running out of breath.
• Her revolver can also serve as a lighter.
• She doesn't like drinking alcohol since she gets drunk easily
• After Kou and Nazuna, Anko is the character who appears on most volume covers, being the main focus on 3 and featured on 2 more.
• Anko has terrible eyesight and can't recognize a person without her glasses unless they are right next to her.
