~ Kooper

Background

Kooper is Mario's second party member in Paper Mario. He is a blue, bold, adventure-loving (and seemingly young) Koopa who dreams of becoming an archaeologist like his childhood hero Kolorado. He is the exact opposite of his successor, Koops, in terms of his personality. However, in the battlefield, the two have very similar abilities. Kooper's name is a pun on the name "Cooper", but with a K for Koopa. Kooper's appearance is similar to that of an ordinary blue Koopa Troopa from Super Mario World (and in later games), except that he wears red arm bands on both hands and a bandana around his neck to distinguish himself from the other Koopa Troopas.

Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Status Effect Inducement & Air Manipulation (With Dizzy Shell, Kooper can make a tornado and make enemies dizzy. This prevents them from moving), Fire Manipulation (With Fire Shell, which burns all enemies), Acausality (Irregular Causality; Bowser used the Star Rod to change the story itself. This caused the final battle between Mario and Bowser to actually not even have a plot, as the final pages to their entire story were ripped, meaning Bowser literally tore off the plot, which Kooper battled on), Self-Sustenance (Respiratory Self-Sustenance; Can breathe in space), Non-Standard Interaction (Can harm ghosts and interact with Lady Bow), Wish Granting & Truth Manipulation (The Star Spirits grant wishes to those who are deemed as good and towards people all over the world), Martial Arts (Defeated The Master and his pupils within their dojo), Paint Manipulation which includes: Conceptual Manipulation (Paint makes up everything, anyone in Mario can remove paint by attacking), Life Manipulation & Death Manipulation (Paint is all of life, and removal of it can cause a person or object to have no life within, having their concept of life be removed), Blood Manipulation (Paint makes up all of blood within someone, removing it is the same as removing their blood), Mind Manipulation & Memory Manipulation (Paint makes up the mind, as paint beings can directly speak to your mind by coloring your thoughts. Loss of paint can also remove your mind and memories), Spatial Manipulation (Paint makes up all of space. Removing it makes space as if it was solid), Metaphysics Manipulation (Soul Manipulation; Paint makes up souls and ghosts. Removing it is the equivalent of destroying your soul), Empathic Manipulation (Paint makes up all emotions. Removing it would mean the removal of emotion), Power Nullification (Paint makes up the ability to use powers. Removing it would mean the removal of using powers).
Resistance to Conceptual Manipulation, Heat (Can traverse inside of Bowser's castle and the inside of a volcano), Cold (Can traverse in snowy areas), Plot Manipulation, Fire Manipulation, Electricity Manipulation (His shell can hit people made up of fire or have an electric aura)

  1. "If you're familiar with things like Popeye and some of the old comic characters, you would oftentimes see this cast of characters that takes on different roles depending on the comic or cartoon," Miyamoto said. "They might be businessman in one [cartoon] or a pirate in another. Depending on the story that was being told, they would change roles. So, to a certain degree, I look at our characters in a similar way and feel that they can take on different roles in different games."
