This hideous beast comes from a strange, hard egg. Its mollusk-like body is wrapped in an unpleasant gas that suffocates any Pikmin that inhales it. Attacking its head is successful, but it's best to eliminate in egg form.
~ Olimar's Voyage Log

Some say that this is a larval version of mamuta that was unable to complete the transformation, but as with mamuta, the smoky progg is shrouded in mystery.
The defeated smoky progg pearl can produce 100 new Pikmin. The ghostly creature's egg disappears from the Distant Spring after Day 15. If you find the egg, attack it until it shakes, then quickly retreat and follow the hatched progg to your landing site. Relentlessly toss Pikmin at its head and stay out of its path.

~ Pikmin Official Player's Guide description

Background

The Smoky Progg is a hidden, optional boss found only in the first Pikmin game, and is considered one of the toughest enemies. The only way to encounter it is to visit The Distant Spring on or before day 15. It resides in the large watery area located to the south of the landing site, in the center of a small group of islands. The Progg is in an egg and if it is approached, it will break out within four to eight seconds. When the egg breaks open, the Progg will go directly to the landing site, ignoring Captain Olimar and possibly walking through the Pikmin squad if not careful. Swarming the unopened egg with a large number of Pikmin can easily defeat the Progg, but does not produce any reward.

The beast itself is a dark green and black creature with glowing white eyes with a pinkish ring around them. It is roughly the size of a Spotty Bulborb, and it constantly emits a cloud of gas behind it that is harmful to both the Pikmin and Olimar. It is also able to uproot Pikmin sprouts. The Smoky Progg will make its way towards the landing site upon emerging, so it is necessary to kill it to avoid interference with the day's plans. It has a very high defense, so it takes a while to kill. When killed, however, it drops a golden pearl-like orb which, if carried to an Onion, will produce 100 Pikmin seeds.

The relationship between the Smoky Progg and Mamuta, of being radically different between larval and adult stages, could be derived from that of the paradox frog (Pseudis paradoxa) and its young; paradox frog tadpoles are about four times larger than their adult selves.

General Information

Name: Smoky Progg

Origin: Pikmin

Sex: Unknown

Age: Unknown, seems to be roughly a couple of seconds old on average, with its lifespan being unknown past that

Classification: Unknown

Status: Unknown (It is currently unknown what family the Smoky Progg belongs to and if its even a prominent species on the PNF-404 food chain)

Alignment: Unaligned (The wildlife on PNF-404 don't follow moral ethics and simply survive like traditional animals in the wilderness. Howeveer, the Smoky Progg does appear rather intrigued by the Pikmin Onions and will make its way towards it as soon as it's born)

Codex Statistics

Tier: At least 10-C

Cardinality: Finite

Dimensionality: 3-D

Attack Potency: At least Subhuman level (Can harm Olimar, should be superior to the Red Bulborb which can launch a tire rim several meters into the air), can ignore conventional durability due to its poisonous physiology (Can instantly kill Standard Pikmin)

Durability: At least Subhuman level (It takes numerous Pikmin to kill it in battle, though it can be instantly killed if its swarmed whilst in its egg[1])

Striking Strength: At least Subhuman Class

Lifting Strength: At least Subhuman (Should be superior to the Red Bulborb which can kick a tire rim several meters into the air)

Travel Speed: Superhuman+ (Can keep up with Pikmin on foot who can easily outpace pellet shots from the Gatling Groink which can travel at 168 m/s on average)

Combat Speed: Supersonic (Can tag and run over Pikmin along with Olimar himself, and should be comparable to wildlife that use electricity-based attacks)

Reaction Speed: Supersonic (Comparable to the Pikmin themselves and can quickly trample Pikmin in its way)

Stamina: Average

Range: Below Average Melee physically, Higher with Smoke Manipulation and Poison Manipulation, Hundreds of Meters with Sound Manipulation (As the Smoky Progg's shockwave attack is a sound-based technique to uproot Pikmin, it should naturally travel around 340 meters)

Intelligence: Animalistic (Though they act similarly to other species on PNF-404, they seemed to be drawn to the Pikmin landing area in the Distant Spring and will pursue it immediately after being born)

Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Small Size (Bug-Sized; The Smoky Progg is roughly five times taller than Olimar), Natural Weaponry (Its body naturally emits smoke around the area), Smoke Manipulation (Passive; The Smoky Progg's mollusk-like body emits smoke around it as a byproduct of simply existing[2]), Poison Manipulation and Resistance Negation (The gas the Smoky Progg emits is highly toxic[3] and can even hurt Olimar, who is naturally immune to gases), Sound Manipulation and Mind Control (The Smoky Progg can emit a loud noise capable of alerting and uprooting Pikmin), Regeneration (Low. Can heal overtime from Pikmin onslaughts).

Resistance to Extreme Heats and Extreme Colds (Has adapted in all of the underground dungeons and earth's biomes like the Distant Tundra and Tropical Wilds), Time Stop and Magnetism Manipulation (All wildlife on PNF-404 are immune to the magnetic field which stops time in the underground dungeons), Sound Manipulation, Mind Manipulation, and Empathic Manipulation (The Antenna Beetle's whistle-like call technique, similar to the captain's whistle, has no effect on the Smoky Progg. Olimar's whistle only temporarily stuns a Smoky Progg), Smoke Manipulation and Poison Manipulation (The Smoky Progg's own smoke has no effect on its vitals[4])

Other

Standard Tactics: The Smoky Progg will pursue its target relentlessly whilst occasionally roaring at the foe, creating a massive soundwave capable of controlling the minds of those that hear it.

Weaknesses: None notable.
