This is the battlefield. The politics of it no longer come into play. We've driven the enemy to their castle doors, and now you have doubts?
~ Alm to Celica

Background

Alm is a legendary Einherjar spirit from another world, taken the form of the Lord, Alm, from both Fire Emblem: Gaiden, and its remake Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. He seems to take on more of the appearance of Alm from the original Gaiden timeline, although he is another entity entirely.

Through use of the Outrealm Gates, Robin, Chrom, and the rest of their party, are able to travel through space and time to multiple parallel worlds. Within this Outrealm in particular, Einherjar have taken the form of Alm and his party, who notice Chrom's party's arrival and plan to take him out. This Alm is notably more cruel than his main counterparts, stating that his enemies will be crushed, and berating Celica for her apprehension.

Once Chrom and his party are able to defeat the Einherjar of Alm, the spirit is then infused into a special playing card known as an Einherjar Card. Through use of this card, Chrom and Robin are able to freely summon Alm to join them in their battles. Although spirits are noted to be weaker than their original selves, Alm's strength was astounding nonetheless.
