Background
Mario Mario is the main character of the 1993 film Super Mario Bros. He is portrayed as a Brooklyn-born plumber and co-owner of Mario Bros. Plumbing, a family business, with his younger brother Luigi. He represents the main protagonist of the video game franchise on which the film is based but is separate from the official depictions of the Nintendo mascot. Unlike his in-game counterpart, Mario is portrayed in the film as grumpy, rude, and practical, and is initially the least willing to save Daisy of the two brothers. According to director Rocky Morton, the film was meant to show the "real" story that the games were based off of, which is supported by the post-credits scene where Iggy and Spike are commissioned to make their own video game. Hoskins was once reported expressing personal distaste for his work in this role.

Equipment
- Thwomp Stompers: Thwomp Stompers are an item used in the Super Mario Bros. film. They are a pair of large boots which propel the user into the air. They are powered by small cartridges that resemble Bullet Bills which are inserted into a slot in the heel of the boot. When taken off, the bullet bills can send the Thwomp Stompers flying at fast speeds, hitting whatever is in their way.
- Bob-Omb: Bob-Ombs are highly dangerous explosives in the Super Mario Bros. film. They resemble their game counterparts in just about every aspect, with their size being the most notable difference. When activated, the Bob-omb walks towards its target and explodes when nearby.
- De-Evolution Gun: The Devolution Gun is a powerful weapon in the Super Mario Bros. film. It was mainly used by President Koopa. The device could be used to mobily access the raw power of de-evolution into a gun. When it hits a victim, it will turn them into their ancestral species. It can transform humans into primates, having been designed specifically as weapons against the Mammalian dimension. Hitting a denizen of the Dinosaur dimension, however, will result in the person de-evolving into their ancestral species.
- Fry Guy Flamethrower: The fireball gun, also known as the flamethrower, flame thrower, fireball thrower, and flame-throwing gun, is a weapon used in the Super Mario Bros. film. As its name suggested, it shoots fireballs as opposed to bullets. President Koopa threatens Mario and Luigi with a fireball gun during their battle, only to be launched into an empty vat by a Thwomp Stomper-using Mario. When the dimensions merge, the fireball gun malfunctions, forcing Koopa to discard it for a Devolution Gun. Upon returning to Dinohattan, Koopa manages to get the gun to work again and fires it at the Mario Bros., only to miss and hit a Koopa propaganda poster depicting him kissing a baby, enabling the brothers to get a clear shot at him with Devolution Guns.
Other
Standard Tactics: Mario will use any tools at his disposal in a creative manner. Alternatively, he will use the de-evolution gun to revert his opponent back into primal goop.
Weaknesses: Nothing notable.
