"Mature Content"
This character or verse has mature themes and concepts, thus those of young age are ill-advised to look through these.

Background

The Spiral is an enigmatic and malevolent force that, at unpredictable intervals spanning centuries or millennia, devastates the population of Kurōzu-Cho in a brutal cycle of destruction. It can be considered the main "villain" and "antagonist" of Uzumaki.

Its true nature remains a mystery—whether it’s a sentient being, a curse, or a supernatural infection. However, it displays an unsettling awareness, often fixating on Kirie, and occasionally Shuichi, as though drawn to them. Some speculate that the Spiral might originate from the eerie City of Spirals beneath Kurōzu-Cho, but no one truly knows its source or intent.

The Spiral has the ability to invade and manipulate both the minds and bodies of its victims, turning their obsessions against them. Only those marked by its curse seem to perceive its presence, though Shuichi Saito is a notable exception, as he remains acutely aware without being fully consumed by it.

Its influence is confined to Kurōzu-Cho, where it follows a disturbing, repetitive pattern. At first, there are inexplicable deaths and disappearances, coupled with a growing fixation on spiral patterns. Then, natural disasters like hurricanes and tornadoes tear through the town. Eventually, Kurōzu-Cho is reduced to a ruinous spiral of rubble, and finally, the town is reborn as a spiraling structure where the remaining inhabitants are drawn into the City of Spirals, never to return.

Equipment

Nothing notable.

Other

Standard Tactics: The Spiral will manipulate anything related in some way, shape, or form to a spiral to make anyone become a spiral or complete the construction of the town.

Weaknesses: The Spiral doesn't seem to choose who it decides to control directly and it happens randomly, as Kirie and Shuichi are unaffected throughout most of the series by the effects that happened on other townspeople. The Spiral comes out only every hundreds, or thousands, or tens of thousands of years[57].
