“ | The Wendigo was gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulled tightly over its bones. With its bones pushing out against its skin, its complexion the ash-gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets, the Wendigo looked like a gaunt skeleton recently disinterred from the grave. What lips it had were tattered and bloody ... Unclean and suffering from suppuration of the flesh, the Wendigo gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption. | „ |

Standard Tactics: Wendigos will typically try to stealth out their opponents in order to kill or possess them. They will manipulate the weather conditions to be favorable such as heavy winter storms where you can barely see anything and feel cold. After setting up these conditions, they will remain out of sight and observe their prey from a far distance through invisibility, shapeshifting, or their general stealth. This will force their prey into being cold and starving, with a building fear they set up. When they know the time is right, they will let out a high-pitched yell to alert their prey that their time has come to an end. They are likely to straight-up kill people or just possess them.
Weaknesses: They are very vulnerable to fire due to having icy hearts. It typically can be used to harm them, but melting or destroying their icy hearts will effectively kill them. Has to constantly feed or else it will die from starvation.
Note: Interpretations from the different Native American tribes and Canadian settlers are used for this profile.
Explanations
Possession:
Wendigos are able notably able to choose to possess people they can across instead of necessarily killing them instead. Those who are possessed by them will also become a Wendigo.
Light Manipulation:
Their eyes naturally emit light and glow within the night. This may vary depending on interpretations between yellow and even red, but they usually have these distinctive, glowing eyes.
Immortality:
Hunting is what they typically do, and it has been noted they can hunt for eternity. This is to satisfy their hunger as they would die otherwise.
Weather Manipulation, Air Manipulation, Ice Manipulation, & Magic:
Weather is one of the main abilities that the Wendigo has a specialty in with it using it for its perfect cover in stealth. It is notable that these changes stem from it utilizing dark magic.
Through the weather, they can create different types of conditions to best suit their needs. They typically use it to whirl up violent snowstorms, though they can make other things such as tornadoes too.
Corruption:
Though they can change other people into Wendigos too by possessing them, they can also make this happen by biting them as well. It is similar to how vampires turn others in concept.
Large Size:
Wendigos have been noted to be very big in size within folklore. Compared to humans, they were seen as giants that completely towered over them.
The amount has been clarified to be around fifteen feet tall for how big they are. Some sources claim they are even bigger, though this is the most consistent height for them.
Enhanced Senses & Water Walking:
They are noted to have exceptional senses such as eyesight, smell, and hearing. They use these senses all across different terrain, even when walking on water which they supposedly never sink on.
Their senses are so spectacular that it allows them to detect the presence of entities through smell and know their complete movements from hearing over numerous miles away.
Invisibility & Flight:
The Wendigo possesses multiple lesser-known, yet useful abilities for masking its presence entirely. They are notable enough to the point it can go completely unnoticed.
Mind Manipulation:
In history, there were cases where people were overcome with cannibalistic desires because of starvation within winter, named Wendigo psychosis. In some of the folklore, this condition is thought to have been caused by exposure to the Wendigo itself.
Stealth Mastery:
Stealth is one of the main traits of the Wendigo, as it knows the territory inch by inch to use its stealth and get around the area very easily.
It uses its senses to help know the terrain and use it as a perfect hunting ground to observe and strike people, along with becoming completely undetectable to anybody trying to find it.
Capable of doing so for hours, the Wendigo uses its stealth to maintain cover while also making their prey feel more paranoid and fear toward them. This serves to help them catch them off guard and make them terrified enough to run rather than try to fight back.
