“ | I exist because of humankind's constant pollution of the environment! I am Vaccine Man! The Earth is a single living organism! And you humans are the disease-causing germs killing it! The will of the Earth gave birth to me... ...So that I may destroy humanity and their insidious civilization! But you do this for fun?! That's the reason you dare to oppose me, the Earth's apostle?! Then indeed I must... ...Wipe humankind from existence! | „ |
Background
Vaccine Man was a Mysterious Being born from the "Will of the Earth" and the release of excessive pollution and waste generated by the industries made by human beings. He claimed he was created as an incarnation of nature's wrath and was tasked to wipe out humanity and thus effectively "vaccinate" the Earth against future "infections." He was killed by Saitama.
This dropdown contains the synopsis of Vaccine Man’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise! |
---|
Vaccine Man appears next to A-City, creating a crater as a result of his travels. He conceives multiple balls of energy that cause further destruction to the city. Lightning Max and Smile Man were sent after Vaccine Man but are defeated easily. He then notices a crying schoolgirl and proceeds to try to grab and crush her. She is saved by Saitama, whom Vaccine Man questions regarding the hero's identity. Saitama says that he is just an average hero doing average hero things as a hobby. Offended at Saitama's casual attitude, Vaccine Man launches into a diatribe about his name and purpose while transforming into his original form. Saitama quickly defeats him in a single punch, the staple of the latter's heroic deeds for the rest of the series. Credit for defeating him ultimately went to King, who was passing by and accidentally tripped onto Vaccine Man’s remains. |

Powers and Techniques
All beings in One-Punch Man have a Limiter which through trying to break it[34], starts granting them the following abilities:
Indomitable Will (One that breaks their limiter need to have extreme will to continue[35]), Pain Tolerance (As they constantly need to put constant pressure on both their body and mind[36]), Accelerated Development (Passive, Physical Stats & Abilities; Limiter Removal, allows for endless growth as there is no intrinsic limit placed on people[37]), Adaptation (Garou has shown to increase himself to blitzing and overpowering Darkshine, who previously managed to break his entire ribcage, by breaking his limiter[38]), Supernatural Resilience (Characters like Garou were able to survive being ripped apart and a hole in his chest[39]), Resurrection (To experience explosive growth, one must be on the brink of death and die than resurrect[40]).
Resistance to BFR (Forced Teleportation; Child Emperor due to his strong will, can break out of Pheonix Space[41]), Mind Manipulation & Absorption (Psykos resisted Orochi absorbing them into them and taking over their mind through sheer will[42]), Telekinesis (Garou with his sheer will couldn't have his movements negated by Gyro Gyro[43]), Sleep Manipulation (Through sheer will and getting pumped up Metal Bat can resist the tranquilizing odor that made him nearly lose consciousness[44]), Empathic Manipulation (Fubuki is able to resist Monster Princess' whip due to having a strong will where her whip can turn one into a slave[45]), Power Nullification (Limits are meant to be intrinsic limits placed on people[46])
Equipment
Nothing notable.
Notable Techniques
- Flight: He does not have any wings but possesses the ability to fly freely on his own. He can also easily attack from midair.
- Transformation: He can get an extreme power-up by transforming from his normal body to his true form. It drastically increases his fighting strength.
- Gigantification: He can revert just a part of his body to its original form to attack. This allows him to partially increase his offensive ability while minimizing energy consumption.
- Energy Bullet: He gathers bio-energy from the Earth and releases it. When it lands, it creates explosions that can pulverize high-rise buildings.
Other
Standard Tactics: Shown to be shooting out energy projectiles across an entire city while flying around, though he seems to be up close against singlular targets, turning into his original form when angered by Saitama calling himself a hobbyist[47].
Weaknesses: Nothing notable.
Trivia
- Vaccine Man's normal form bears a strong resemblance to the character Piccolo from the popular manga series Dragon Ball. Coincidentally, the character happens to share the same English voice actor, Christopher Sabat, and the same German voice actor, David Nathan.
- Vaccine Man happens to be a parody of the character Baikinman, the primary antagonist of Anpanman, given that One-Punch Man is a reference to Anpanman. The way Saitama defeats him (a single punch) is also an exaggeration of how Anpanman effortlessly dispatches Baikinman with his "An-Punch". Vaccine Man also shares the same Japanese voice actor as Baikinman, Ryusei Nakao.
- Nakao himself is also known for voicing Frieza in the Dragon Ballseries (DBZ and DBS).
- Murata stated that the energy balls Vaccine Man uses are the same as Choze and Homeless Emperor.
- Interestingly, Homeless Emperor notes he has been given his abilities by God while Vaccine Man notes he was given to it by the Will of the Earth, there could be a possible connection due to this.
- Murata stated jokingly in an interview that because there's no way to measure Saitama's strength, it can't be excluded the possibility that Vaccine Man is the strongest monster of the series, as ONE breaks the storytelling mold of introducing monsters that are subsequently stronger[48].
