Earth Vellumental

Legend says the spirit of the dirt, known as the Earth Vellumental lives in this very cave. It is a mighty spirit, imbued with the power to lift the very ground!
Paper Mario: The Origami King - Vellumental Battle

Background

The Earth Vellumental is a Vellumental and the first boss fought in Paper Mario: The Origami King. It is a giant origami turtle with a color scheme that makes it resemble a Koopa Troopa. It resides in the Earth Vellumental Temple within Picnic Road, worshipped as a deity by the Koopa Troopas. Mario and Olivia encounter it after falling down a hole deep inside of the temple.

Statistics

Tier: 2-C

Name: Earth Vellumental

Origin: Paper Mario: The Origami King

Sex: Unknown

Age: Unknown, likely Thousands of Years Old

Classification: Vellumental, Earth God

Status: Deceased (The Earth Vellumental was absorbed by Olivia after being defeated by Mario. Olivia at the end of the game was erased due to wishing for all of Olly's work to be undone and she was created by him)

Alignment: Unknown (The 4 Vellumentals were all corrupted after being folded by Olly and their original selves are never shown)

Dimensionality: 3-D

Attack Potency: Complex Universe level (Can harm Mario in battle. Mario was able to defeat King Olly who was folding the very fabric of reality in order to reshape the world into his own image and Olivia's Vellumental transformations are able to harm him)

Durability: Complex Universe level (Can take hits from Mario), Far Higher with its shell (Mario's jumps bounce right off its shell leaving it unharmed)

Striking Strength: Complex Universe Class

Lifting Strength: At Least Multi-Stellar (Should scale to Rubber Band who can tie up Mario to the degree that he can't move.)

Travel Speed: Massively FTL (Should scale to Mario)

Combat Speed: Massively FTL (Can keep up with Mario in combat)

Reaction Speed: Massively FTL

Stamina: High (Can take several hits from Mario and keep on fighting)

Range: Hundreds of Meters likely Far Higher by scaling to other Vellumentals

Intelligence: Unknown

Powers and Abilities

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Large Size (Type 0. As shown here), Paint Manipulation which includes: Conceptual Manipulation (Paint makes up everything, anyone in Mario can remove paint by attacking), Life Manipulation & Death Manipulation (Paint is all of life, and removal of it can cause a person or object to have no life within, having their concept of life be removed), Blood Manipulation (Paint makes up all of blood within someone, removing it is the same as removing their blood), Mind Manipulation & Memory Manipulation (Paint makes up the mind, as paint beings can directly speak to your mind by coloring your thoughts. Loss of paint can also remove your mind and memories), Spatial Manipulation (Paint makes up all of space. Removing it makes space as if it was solid), Soul Manipulation (Paint makes up souls and ghosts. Removing it is the equivalent of destroying your soul), Empathic Manipulation (Paint makes up all emotions. Removing it would mean the removal of emotion), Power Nullification (Paint makes up the ability to use powers. Removing it would mean the removal of using powers). BFR and Law Manipulation (Folded soldiers in the Origami King are able to send their opponents to a ringed battlefield regardless of where they are and forces their opponents to align the rings to fight. The Origami Vellumentals do this as well along with being able to affect how the ring system works), Sand Manipulation (With Sandblast, the Earth Vellumental spits 3 bursts of sands at their opponents), Vibration Manipulation (With Rough Landing, Tremor Tail, Mega Earthquake and Earthquake), Earth Manipulation (Shown here), Healing (With Terrepair, The Earth Vellumental can heal itself completely), Power Bestowal (Upon defeat, the Earth Vellumental turned itself into instructions for Olvia to fold into it and put its power into Magic Circles so Olivia can unleash it)

Standard Equipment

None Notable

Notable Techniques

  • Sandblast: The boss spits dirt three times at Mario, dealing 5 damage per hit.
  • Earthquake: The boss hits the ground with one of its legs, creating an earthquake on the column of spaces where Mario is, dealing 8 damage.
  • Tremor Tail: The boss turns around and smashes its tail on Mario, dealing about 12 damage.
  • Rough Landing: The boss jumps and pounds the ground with its shell, dealing 5 damage.
  • Mega Earthquake: The boss charges for two turns and afterwards jumps high in its shell and hits the ground, creating an earthquake that covers the entire arena and causes massive damage.
  • Terrepair: The boss heals itself completely and exposes all of its limbs, returning to its first phase.

Other

Standard Tactics: The Earth Vellumental can spit sand, create an earthquake with its legs, smash the ground with its tail, create shockwaves by slamming its shell on the ground, and heal itself entirely.

Weaknesses: It's tail is its weak point and being flipped over leaves it vulnerable.

Note: In Paper Mario Color Splash, the main point of the game is paint. Paint is a concept. As shown in the game, paint encompasses everything. And I mean everything. Paint is shown to be all of land, liquid, life (Once bringing Toad back via paint, Huey states that paint gives life. Additionally, paint can return the blood, organs, and skin to an old fossil that's been dead years ago), mind (Paint can speak to your mind by coloring your thoughts. Paint was able to take over Bowser's body and freely act on their own. Big Paint Stars are also shown to be alive), memory (Toad couldn't remember anything with the loss of paint on his head. Returning paint gave his memories back), emotions, space (even simple holes require paint to function as holes) and souls. Removing any paint would stop making anything work. It's everything.

Scissors

Let's get this straight: I WILL annihilate you...but I don't see why we can't have some fun first. After all, where's the challenge in slicing you to strips immediately? Therefore, I shall grant you... a slight advantage.
~ Scissors upon engaging Mario in battle
Paper Mario: The Origami King - The Duel-Bladed Duelist

Background

Scissors, The Dual-Bladed Duelist, is a member of the Legion of Stationery who guards the end of the green streamer and is the boss of Bowser's Castle in Paper Mario: The Origami King, being the last member guarding the end of a streamer to be fought. Scissors is a pair of green right-handed scissors with King Olly's insignia on it, and is stated to be King Olly's top lieutenant amongst the Legion of Stationery.

Scissors first appears slicing Bowser Jr. to pieces outside the entrance of Bowser's Castle when he first tries to gain entry into the castle. Later, it is shown assaulting the Koopa Troop, slicing them into tiny pieces and sticking their faces to a Paper Macho Buzzy Beetle, including that of Kamek's, to create a Paper Mistake Buzzy Beetle. Scissors narrowly misses cutting Mario when they first meet, claiming it would be uninteresting if Mario was immediately cut to pieces. It then sends out the Paper Mistake Buzzy Beetle as a warm up for Mario before engaging him directly.

Unlike the other Legion of Stationery members except for Stapler, Scissors does not say anything when defeated; instead, it simply falls flat and explodes when Olivia pokes it over. Kamek, Bowser Jr., and the Koopa Troop are all restored to normal after Scissors is defeated.

Statistics

Tier: At Least 2-C

Name: Scissors

Origin: Paper Mario: The Origami King

Sex: Inapplicable

Age: Unknown

Classification: Scissors, The Duel Bladed Duelist, Member of the Legion of Stationary

Status: Deceased (Was destroyed after being defeated by Mario)

Alignment: Chaotic Evil (Scissors is a member of the Legion of Stationary, a group of office supply tools made sentient by King Olly. They work for him, guarding each of the streamers to help stop Mario and others from stopping King Olly from reshaping the world in his own image. Scissors also mercilessly slices up anyone who approached Bowser's castle such as Bowser's Jr and made a Paper Macho Buzzy Beetle out of pieces he cut off Bowser's Minions.)

Dimensionality: 3-D

Attack Potency: At Least Complex Universe level (Is able to defeat Mario in 1-Hit. Mario merely touching Scissor's blades alone, even with Iron boots which protect him from spikes one shots him. Was able to easily defeat Bowser Jr. Scissors even saw Bowser Jr. and Kamek who scale to Mario as weak. Mario was able to defeat King Olly who was folding the very fabric of reality in order to reshape the world into his own image)

Durability: Complex Universe level (Can take attacks from Mario and Vellumentals)

Striking Strength: At Least Complex Universe Class

Lifting Strength: At Least Multi-Stellar (Should scale to Rubber Band who can tie up Mario to the degree that he can't move.)

Travel Speed: Massively FTL (Should scale to Mario)

Combat Speed: Massively FTL (Can keep up with Mario in combat. Was able to blitz Bowser Jr.)

Reaction Speed: Massively FTL

Stamina: High (Was able to fight against Mario and take attack's from Vellumentals and could still fight. Was easily able to wipe out an army of Bowser's minions, Kamek and Bowser Jr.)

Range: Several Meters through Large Size

Intelligence: Gifted (Scissors was able to make a Paper Macho Buzzy Beetle out of all of Bowser's minions that he defeated and it is even able to manipulate Kamek's magic)

Powers and Abilities

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Inorganic Physiology, Flight (Shown here), Large Size (Type 0. Is this big compared to Mario), Body Control (Can control and put on it's sheath as shown here), Telekinesis (Was able to make a Paper Macho Buzzy Beetle out of pieces he cut off Bowser's Minions), BFR and Law Manipulation (Folded soldiers in the Origami King are able to send their opponents to a ringed battlefield regardless of where they are and forces their opponents to align the rings to fight. Scissors is able do this as well along with being able to affect how the ring system works like other bosses. It can even cut off actions off the rings to make things more difficult), Paint Manipulation which includes: Conceptual Manipulation (Paint makes up everything, anyone in Mario can remove paint by attacking), Life Manipulation & Death Manipulation (Paint is all of life, and removal of it can cause a person or object to have no life within, having their concept of life be removed), Blood Manipulation (Paint makes up all of blood within someone, removing it is the same as removing their blood), Mind Manipulation & Memory Manipulation (Paint makes up the mind, as paint beings can directly speak to your mind by coloring your thoughts. Removing it would mean the removal of emotion), Power Nullification (Paint makes up the ability to use powers. Removing it would mean the removal of using powers), Resistance to Paint Removal, Cosmic Radiations, Ice Manipulation (Can break out of the Ice Vellumental's Ice)

Standard Equipment

A scissor sheath

Notable Techniques

  • Final Cut: Scissors' Ultimate Attack where they slice their opponents to bits by cutting them
  • Dull Edge: Scissors flies into the air and does a spinning attack.
  • Safe Tee: Scissors attacks their opponent with their grip.
  • Cutting Board: Scissors cuts up actions on the ringed battlefield to make things harder for their opponents.

Other

Standard Tactics: For opponents deemed worthy, Scissors BFR's their opponent onto a ringed battlefield, it then puts on it's sheath to give their opponent a slight advantage. If the cover is broken, Scissors will no longer hold back and use strictly their ultimate attack, Final Cut. If an opponent is seen as weak, they will simply cut them to pieces.

Weaknesses: Scissors will challenge itself when fighting strong opponents such as Mario so it puts a cover on itself to limit their power.

It resides in the Water Vellumental Shrine located in Autumn Mountain. After the Water Vellumental is defeated, Olivia obtains its Bibliofold and can then transform into the Water Vellumental and use its abilities while Mario stands on certain Magic Circles. Standard Equipment

None Notable

Notable Techniques

Before Spin

  • Summon Spouts - Summon a number of water spouts to the Inner Circle, each targeting an angle of the battlefield. The number of spouts varies, from 2 to 6. They will stay until it uses Wash Away at the end of it's turn.
    • Wash Away: When Mario finishes spinning the battlefield, it uses the Wash Away ability. The spouts go on their respective lines, wiping out things on their way.

On its turn

  • Bite- If the Vellumental is grounded and Mario is facing it, it will bite him, dealing damage once.
  • Flying Bite - If Mario is on high ground (risen by Olivia's Earth Vellumental power), and the Vellumental is Flying, it will use Flying Bite.
  • Wing Ding - If the Vellumental is not flying and Mario is at it's side, it uses its wing to hit Mario.
  • Big Wave - If the Vellumental's belly is full (after using Soak Up 3 times), it uses Big Wave. It throws the water out and deals big damage to units on the board. Mario can dodge if he is on high ground.

End of turn

  • Soak Up - When it is not drained, it uses Soak Up. It will suck up water into its belly, getting bigger each time. After 3 times, it will then use Big Wave.

Other

Standard Tactics: The Water Vellumental BFRs their opponents into a ringed battlefield and creates several waterspouts. Before their opponent acts, they will wash away action panels with tinier waterspouts. They then will attack opponents by slamming them with their wings or biting them. After each turn they soak up water. After three turns, it unleashes its ultimate attack, Big Wave.

Weaknesses: Using Big Wave greatly tires the Water Vellumental.

I'm sick and tired of Philistines like you ERASING all of my hard work, man. You probably haven't heard of me, right? Figures. When was the last time you even went to a gallery? Pfft. Don't answer. I'm gonna give you an art lesson for free. The name's Jean-Pierre Colored Pencils the 12th. I represent the Legion of Stationery, I'll have you know! Anyway, I'm guarding this streamer, and I'll scribble on your flat face if that's what it takes to stop you.
~ Colored Pencils before engaging Mario in battle

Paper Mario: The Origami King - The Missile Maestro

Background

Colored Pencils, The Missile Maestro (also referred to as Color Pencil and Jean-Pierre Colored Pencils the 12th), is a member of the Legion of Stationery who guards a spool for the red streamer and the boss of Overlook Tower in Paper Mario: The Origami King. He is an oversized red tin pencil case sporting King Olly's logo on the front. He normally holds 12 colored pencils inside, whose colors are, from left to right, white, lime, green, cyan, blue, purple, pink, red, yellow, beige, brown, and black. These are used as missiles. His dialogue is displayed with each symbol being semi-randomly picked from those colors, or, when severely damaged, a light gray.

By the time Mario has entered Overlook Tower, Colored Pencils has created drawings on the walls and floors, including one at the entrance displaying King Olly. As Mario scales the tower, Colored Pencils continually tries to stop him. First, the boss damages the elevator by piercing it with colored pencils, which, after being removed, cause the elevator to plunge back to the first floor. Second, when Mario reaches a cafe on the third floor, Colored Pencils retaliates by launching large salvos of pencils. The pencils also block the doorway out of the tower.

Once Mario reaches the red streamer's spool, he attempts to dislodge it by jumping into it, to no avail. Afterwards, two colored pencils are launched, forcing Olivia to shove Mario out of the way. The case then reveals himself, Mario pulling Olivia away when he is about to flatten her. Colored Pencils expresses detest of people erasing his work, introduces himself, and fights Mario.

After being defeated, Colored Pencils laments that Mario was better as a side-scroller, and explodes, erasing his drawings off screen and releasing a Magic Circle that Mario can use to destroy the spool.

Notable Techniques

  • Reload: Colored Pencils could shut its lid and reload its pencils in seconds seemingly ad-infinitum.
  • Pencil Rain: Colored Pencils could fire off six pencils to hover over spots like targeted missiles.
  • Missile Lock: If Mario stopped under the target reticles, they would rain down and deal additional damage to what Colored Pencils other attacks would cause.
  • Snap Shut: Colored Pencil's weakest attack where it ran up to Mario and snapped its case shut in front of Mario to slap him with.
  • Levitation: Colored Pencils could levitate its pencils and spin them in a big circle after getting down to half health.
  • Rainbow Roll: Colored Pencils' most powerful attack where it levitated its pencils in its body in a big circle. It would then fire them at Mario three at a time to deal massive damage.
  • Unshuttable Lid: Colored Pencils' Rainbow Roll prevented the lid from being closed due to obstructing the hinge.

Other

Standard Tactics: Colored Pencils BFRs their opponent to a ringed battlefield and launches several color pencil missiles to land on specific tiles. It then attacks using its case and doing multiple different attacks with its colored pencil missiles. Occasionally, it will use its ultimate attack, Rainbow Roll.

Weaknesses: If it's lid is closed, colored pencil missiles will automatically launch inside its mouth which greatly hurts them as well as stuns them.

Rubber Band

Ooooh, I have HAD it with your show stealing and grandstanding! You wish to be the STAR? Fine! Come on up and face the MUSIC!
~ Rubber Band before engaging Mario in battle

Paper Mario: The Origami King - The Elastic Entertainer

Background

Rubber Band, The Elastic Entertainer, is a member of the Legion of Stationery who guards the end of the blue streamer and the boss of Big Sho' Theater in Paper Mario: The Origami King. Unlike the other Legion of Stationery members, while Rubber Band itself is a singular large yellow rubber band with King Olly's insignia on it, it initially appears to be a vague humanoid entirely composed out of small rubber bands, mostly yellow, with blue for its large joints, and black for its hands, legs, and the top of its head, with the actual Rubber Band on the inside creating the frame. The Toads in the audience appear to be unnerved by its appearance, as evidenced by their screaming when it first appears, and the unique quotes of the battle, including some quotes indicating them being scared.

Rubber Band, prior to Mario arriving to the show, traps a large group of Toads with rubber bands, effectively forcing them to watch its show, except for one that is forced to narrate. After each act, Rubber Band yells from backstage that the act was supposed to defeat Mario. Once the show reaches the fourth and final floor where the spool for the blue streamer is found, Mario is invited onstage as the star of the show. However, once he gets on stage, Rubber Band objects, claiming it is the star, and appears from a stage lift. It performs a short song and dance routine before confronting Mario and Olivia and battling them.

After being defeated, a spotlight shines on Rubber Band as it dramatically proclaims its final words, asking why it had to be defeated, claiming to want to make the theater grand, and finally, accepting defeat, before falling over and exploding. This destroys the rubber bands trapping the Toads and releases a Magic Circle that Mario can use to destroy the streamer.

Fused Form

  • Injury Immunity: No actual damage was able to be done to the Rubber Band until it was flung out of the arena. Any damage shown on its health bar was just health deducted from his collective total with the other Rubber Bands.
  • Direct Attack Immunity: The Rubber Band could not be attacked by direct attacks from Mario (eg Boots, Fire Flower, Hammer etc.) since those would take away a lot of its health, but it could immediately reabsorb them to render the attack void.
  • Bumper Bands: The very first thing the Rubber Band did in its battles was fling rubber bands to send random arrows flying off of the stage and replace them.
  • Absorption Dance: After each turn, the Rubber Band would perform a special dance that would allow it to reabsorb any and all rubber bands across its arena into their body.
    • Health Regeneration: Doing so also regained the health the Rubber Band lost by ejecting them from its body.
  • Rubber Bind: The Rubber Band would walk up to Mario and fling rubber bands to bind him in place which could be dodged by well timed blocked.
    • Turn Skipping: Getting bound by the Rubber Bind restrains Mario for a whole turn which is automatically skipped due to him being unable to move.
      • Trapped Snapback: After that wasted turn, the Rubber Band would walk up to Mario and bend back one of the rubber bands on him and release it to smack back into him for massive damage. Jumping five times would free Mario and prevent this however.
  • Snapback: A more powerful version of the Rubber Bind where the Rubber Band generated one big rubber band to fling at Mario for heavy damage.

True Form

  • Jump Immunity: Using Mario's Boots to jump on the Rubber Band did no damage to it whatsoever due to its durable rubber nature.
  • Ranged Attack Immunity: Using any of the Flowers (Fire or Ice) would have no effect on the Rubber Band as it would pass straight through its middle. This happens even if Mario is aiming from Rubber Band's side and not the gaping hole in the middle.
  • Agility: The Rubber Band's true form was extremely agile and fast which made it hard for Mario to grab with the 1000-Fold Arms. Failing to grab them in twenty seconds resulted in it performing its Solo Snapback.
  • Solo Snapback: The Rubber Band's most powerful attack in either form where it bent back whilst energizing itself with yellow energy before snapping forward to deal devastating damage to Mario.

Other

Standard Tactics: Rubbeer Band BFRs their opponent to a ringed battlefield and flicks several rubber bands on specific tiles. It then attacks with rubber bands which can be flicked and even trap opponents within them. If any rubber bands are knocked off it's protective rubber band body, it will heal itself by absorbing all of them to return to original condition.

Weaknesses: Flinging its rubber bands off the battlefield prevents Rubber Band from absorbing them back.

Stapler

The barking! The biting! Those sharp, sharp staples!
~ Olivia describing Stapler

Paper Mario: The Origami King - The Fanged Fastener

Background

Stapler, The Fanged Fastener, is a member of the Legion of Stationery and the penultimate boss in Paper Mario: The Origami King. It is an oversized black stapler with King Olly's insignia on its side. Unlike the other members, it does not guard any of the streamers, but is instead fought in Origami Castle as King Olly's last line of defense. It appears to have a dog-like personality, frequently emitting dog sounds throughout its battle, and is the only Legion of Stationery member to not have any dialogue.

The Stapler's shadow is seen at the beginning of the game in Peach's Castle, where it transforms Bowser's minions into Folded Soldiers, ensuring that they cannot unfold themselves. Prior, it was also the one who kept Bowser stuck in his folded form.

Later, in Origami Castle, as Mario, Olivia and Bowser corner King Olly, he sets the Stapler on them. After Mario defeats the Stapler, the staple keeping Bowser folded is destroyed, allowing Mario to Hammer him, causing him to unfold and return to his normal self.
