Carbon Dog burns to roast you, but you can turn the rotisserie on it by using Freeze or strong weapon attacks like Jeff's Bottle Rockets.

Carbon Dog becomes Diamond Dog after taking damage of several hundred HP. Now it's your turn to suffer. DD is hard. Use Multi-Bottle Rockets right away before it puts up its counter shield. Also use shield killer.

Background
Carbon Dog is the 8th and final Sanctuary Boss fought in MOTHER 2 (localized as EarthBound). It guards Fire Spring, the last Your Sanctuary location in the game. Carbon Dog uses physical attacks and fire moves. Once it has been defeated, Carbon Dog's flames go out and it transforms into Diamond Dog, beginning the second half of the battle.
Diamond Dog is the second form of Carbon Dog. It appears when Carbon Dog's HP goes below a certain amount. Diamond Dog has higher defenses and offense than Carbon Dog, but its guts stat is lower; it can also use some PSI abilities. Diamond Dog begins the battle with a Shield β already active, so any physical damage will be reflected back at the party at first. The boss has two different biting attacks, one stronger and one weaker, but they both have the same description. As its name implies, Diamond Dog is capable of Diamondizing party members. Once it has been defeated, Ness is finally able to complete the Sound Stone's melody and enter Magicant.

Has a high resistance to fire, paralysis, & hypnosis)Energy Manipulation (PSI is the manipulation of psionic energy, being described as a mysterious and useful power[1]), Telekinesis (PSI Users such as Ninten can use their psi to telekinetically unbend a spoon, along with Ness as an infant being able to telekinetically move his baby bottle), Telepathy (PSI users all naturally share PSI Telepathy, Ninten uses this to be able to read minds and speak to animals, Paula uses it to telepathically call to Ness in her dreams, along with telepathically speak to other members of the Chosen Four from across towns or even continents. The ability seems to be universal to all PSI users as their consciousness no matter their age is fully aware and can speak with people), Limited Power Bestowal (PSI users can give PSI abilities to other PSI users, such as when an infant used their mind to give Ninten PSI Teleport, or when the Chosen Four taught a monkey how to use PSI Teleport).
Resistance to Mind Manipulation (The natural PSI users consciousness is already matured and able to defend against other mental attacks) All previous powers and abilities to a greater extent, Light Manipulation, Status Effect Inducement, Mind Manipulation, Durability Negation, & One Hit KO (Can emit a glorious light that can cause uncontrollable crying, feeling strange, paralysis, or an instant KO), Transmutation (Seemingly contact based as if the Diamond Dog bites the target hard enough they may be diamondized).
Resistance to Fire Manipulation, Ice Manipulation, Light Manipulation, Paralysis Inducement, Mind Manipulation, and Sleep Manipulation (Updated resistances of a 50% resistance to fire, freeze, and brainshock, a high resistance to hypnosis, and an immunity to flash and paralysis)Forcefield Creation & Attack Reflection (With PSI Shield Beta, Diamond dog creates a shield that cuts damage in half and reflects attacks back at the user)
Other
Standard Tactics: The Carbon Dog will shoot fire based attacks and bite, once it feels it’s about to be defeated it will let out rainbow colors and transforms into the diamond dog, where it will emit a glorious light and deal bashing attacks and a bite that may induce diamondization. It may also make a shield to reflect back attacks.
Weaknesses: PSI users need to concentrate in order to use their PSI[2].
