Five Nights at Candy's/Chester the Chimpanzee
Jump to navigationJump to search

Chester the Chimpanzee appears as one of the antagonists in both Five Nights at Candy's and its remastered version.

In Five Nights at Candy's 2, Chester returns in a significantly more damaged condition, consistent with the other animatronics, and he becomes active starting on Night 2. His intact form is shown during the first minigame.

Chester is absent from the main gameplay of Five Nights at Candy's 3, though he does show up in the Cindy's Garden minigame.

Background

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Chester’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Chester has no true stakes in the story and is just an animatronic in Candy's Burger and Fries acting weird like the other animatronics.

It attempts to attack Mary throughout the multiple nights at Candy's and fails each time.

In Five Nights at Candy's 2 Chester's face is mostly gone and he attempts to attack Marylin throughout the multiple nights at the Rowboatics Corps.

Appearance

General Description: Chester is a chimpanzee animatronic with brown fur and olive-colored eyes.

Five Nights at Candy's 1 / Remastered: A peach-colored stomach. Wears a pair of green overalls with yellow buttons. His upper teeth are half-covered, possibly a curled lip. He can sometimes be seen holding a red banjo.

Five Nights at Candy's 2: Stays true to his original appearance but is older and broken down. He lacks his right upper arm and left lower leg suit covering, revealing his endoskeleton underneath. Part of his face is completely removed alongside the casing for his eyes and his left ear. His body appears dirty. He is missing his eyes. Chester can also be seen unwithered in the first minigame, appearing the same as he was in the first game.

Five Nights at Candy's 3: Appears the same as he was in the first game, but with a more cartoonish design.

Alternate Forms/Disguises: His withered appearance and cartoonish design are considered variations of Chester.

Notable Techniques

Jumpscare

Chester effectively sneak attacks Mary Schmidt or Marylin Schmidt depending on the game.

They quick attack which likely in-universe catches Mary or Marylin off guard before grabbing and killing them.

Venting

Chester in Five Nights at Candy's 2 attempts to climb into the vent to sneak into the main room rather then attack from the main room. He is scared away from this if Marylin rings a phone in the same room as him, but if she doesn't, he will get in and then eventually will hit her with a jumpscare.

Other

Standard Tactics

Chester becomes active starting on Night 2. He initially hides behind the curtains in Cam 9, then peeks out before stepping off the stage and onto the floor. From there, he makes his way toward the office through Cams 8, 7, and finally 6, where he appears outside Mary Schmidt's left door, signaled by his glowing white eyes. Mary has only a few seconds to react and close the door; otherwise, Chester enters the office, triggering his jumpscare and a game over. On the earlier nights, Chester is typically far more active than the other animatronics and often appears more times than all of them combined.

Much like his Five Nights at Candy's counterpart, he becomes active starting Night 2. He can appear on any camera like the other animatronics. His behavior differs from most others: rather than approaching Marylin through the Central Hall, he attempts to reach them through the vents. If Marylin clicks the phone in the room Chester currently occupies, he is scared away and flees out of the camera's view. Chester never appears in the Central Hall except during a jumpscare. He bangs on the vent cover while trying to enter, giving Marylin an audio cue for when to react. If left unchecked, he enters the vents and climbs loudly toward Marylin. At that point, a jumpscare is unavoidable unless the night ends first or Marylin never opens the maintenance panel again.

Weaknesses

Trivia

  • Chester is analogous to Foxy in that he hides in the curtains, peeks out, and leaves the corner.
  • After Chester leaves CAM 9, however, he acts more like Bonnie, since he will only be seen at the left door.
  • In Custom Night, there was a bug where, if the player simply stared at Chester while he was at the left door and moved nowhere else, no other animatronics would move and Chester would not attack, allowing the player to win. This bug was later patched.
  • Chester appeared in the final teaser for the second game. Brightening the teaser revealed text saying "Why didn't they like me?"
  • The minigames imply Chester was scrapped earlier than Candy and Cindy, perhaps after being damaged by The Rat. This would explain why he retains the same joints and suit parts.
  • In the second game, Chester is the only character that moves on camera outside of a jumpscare.
  • Withered Chester resembles Withered Bonnie from Five Nights at Freddy's 2, except Chester still has his upper jaw and both arms, unlike Withered Bonnie.
  • Rarely, Chester can become active on Night 1 of the first game, though he usually will not even leave his stage.
