The Penguin

From The Codex
Five Nights at Candy's/The Penguin
Jump to navigationJump to search

The Penguin is a robot built to serve as a waiter, a role he performs in Five Nights at Candy's and Five Nights at Candy's Remastered.

The Penguin returns in Five Nights at Candy's 2 as a withered animatronic. He is a glitching animatronic, and unlike the others, he does not kill the player. Instead, he forces the camera monitor to restart, leaving the player vulnerable to attack for several seconds.

Although the Penguin does not appear in the main gameplay of Five Nights at Candy's 3, he can be seen in the "Fishing with Candy" minigame.

Background

This dropdown contains the synopsis of The Penguin’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

The Penguin has no true stakes in the story and is just an animatronic in Candy's Burger and Fries acting weird like the other animatronics.

It attempts to go into Mary's office and mess with her equipment throughout the multiple nights at Candy's and fails each time.

In Five Nights at Candy's 2 Penguin's eyes Are gone and he attempts to attack Marylin throughout the multiple nights at the Rowboatics Corps by shutting down the camera feed.

Appearance

General Description: The Penguin is a small penguin-like animatronic, much smaller than the other animatronics.

Five Nights at Candy's 1 / Remastered: Wears a black and white tuxedo with a red bow tie. He has a small orange beak.

Five Nights at Candy's 2: Withered Penguin is broken down. He is missing both of his eyes and his beak. His bow tie is missing the left half. The top of his head is broken, mostly on the left side, revealing the top of his endoskeleton. His original appearance can still be seen in the second minigame.

Five Nights at Candy's 3: Appears the same as he was in the first game, but with a more cartoonish design due to the art style of the minigame.

Alternate Forms/Disguises: His withered appearance and cartoonish design are considered variations of The Penguin.

Goals

  • Mess with the Night Guard's electronics (Failed).
  • Shut down Marylin Schmidt's electronics (Failed).

Nothing notable.

Notable Techniques

Opening & Closing Doors

Penguin enters the office and causes doors and the window booth to randomly open and close, which gives Mary a high chance at getting killed due to a door opening when an animatronic is there.

Camera Disable

Penguin in Five Nights at Candy's 2 will disable Marylin's camera, which gives Marylin a high chance of getting killed by animatronics walking into the central room and her having no way to lure them away.

Other

Standard Tactics

The Penguin begins the night on Cam 12 and approaches Mary Schmidt through Cams 02, 03, and 04 before arriving at the door. If Mary fails to close the right door while he is there, he will enter the room and sit beneath the desk. Looking directly at the Penguin also causes him to leave.

Although the Penguin does not jumpscare Mary, he interferes with the doors and the window while Mary is viewing the cameras. This can allow other animatronics to slip in and kill Mary.

Beginning on Night 3, Withered Penguin will occasionally show up on the cameras, filling the entire screen. If Marylin does not switch cameras quickly enough, he disables the camera monitor and forces it to restart, leaving Marylin exposed to the other animatronics for several seconds, especially Withered Chester if he is already banging on a vent. As the nights progress, the amount of time Marylin has to safely click away steadily shortens.

Weaknesses

Trivia

  • His original design had him missing an eye.

Also similar to the JJ hallucination in Five Nights at Freddy's 2, he goes under the desk upon entering the room.

    • However, unlike JJ, The Penguin's entire body is shown, whereas JJ shows only her head.
    • He also acts like Balloon Boy in that he can manipulate game mechanics to Mary's disadvantage, and is similarly sized.
  • While him jamming the doors and window can be a disadvantage, this may sometimes work out to Mary's advantage.
  • He has a very similar design to Wheezy from Toy Story 2 and Gunter from Adventure Time.
  • The Penguin and his Withered version do not have a jumpscare; instead, they do something to interfere with the main mechanic.
  • Five Nights at Candy's Remastered reveals there are three penguins, two of which are broken. This penguin is the only one that is not broken, though it seems to be damaged enough where it interferes with the system.
    • Penguin 2 and Penguin 3 are probably the broken ones seen in Parts & Services.
  • Penguin appeared in the fourth teaser for the second game, in the same pose as his in-game pose. Brightening the teaser revealed he was transparent, with one of the rooms visible behind him.
  • In the second game, his behavior is very similar to Phantom Balloon Boy in Five Nights at Freddy's 3, in that he does not kill Marylin but holds them back from keeping away the other animatronics for a short period, unless the camera is quickly closed, which again is very similar to Phantom BB. The way he appears up close to the camera is especially similar to how Phantom BB is seen on camera before inconveniencing the player.
  • Due to his slightly burned face in Five Nights at Candy's 2, he may foreshadow the fire in The Factory after Night 6.
  • Withered Penguin from the second game could possibly be one of the two broken, un-repaired penguin waiters mentioned by Phone Guy in Five Nights at Candy's.
