Infinite (Sonic the Hedgehog)

From The Codex
I can taste your terror, child. All that anxiety and doubt... It's delicious. Give in to your fear. Flee screaming and I'll let you live
~ Infinite taunting Rookie after killing their squad
Fine... I will teach you fear, then pain, and then... well, at least the fear and pain will end
~ Infinite before fighting Rookie
Pathetic little hedgehog. Even with the Phantom Ruby weakened, I still have enough power to smash you into blue jelly. I'll show you how outclassed you really are!
~ Infinite facing Sonic for the third and final time
Jackal Squad! Move in for the kill!
~ Infinite commanding the jackal squad
I... I'm shaking... Me? Me... Afraid?! Ugh. Pathetic?! Me... He's calling ME weak!? No... I am not weak. I'm... I'm not. I'm not weak! I AM NOT WEEEEAAAAAAK! URRRAAAAAAAAAAAGH!
~ Infinite after being defeated by Shadow
That day, I gave up my own unsightly face. And I let go of the old me, the one that was so weak, so that I could become stronger. And then, at last... I obtained the power. The power to make all yield to my will. I... was... REBORN!

Background

Infinite also known as the "ultimate mercenary" is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He is an anthropomorphic jackal and the former captain of the Jackal Squad mercenary group. During a raid, Infinite was hired by Dr. Eggman to become the leader of the Eggman Army, only for him and his squad to fall at the hands of Shadow the Hedgehog while protecting one of Eggman's facilities. Ashamed of his loss, Infinite decided to obtain the power of the Phantom Ruby not only as a means of becoming stronger, but also to abandon his "weak" past self. With his newfound power, Infinite aided Eggman by helping him expand the Eggman Empire to its largest size to date after defeating Sonic the Hedgehog. Near the end of the war with the Resistance though, Infinite engaged Sonic and the Avatar on multiple occasions until he was defeated during the decisive battle for the planet and consumed by the Phantom Ruby.

Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Human Achievements (Infinite was renowned as the ultimate mercenary), Acrobatics, Weapon Usage (Infinte used a sword), Limited Acausality (Future or Past Defiance; The future in Sonic is essentially unwritten and constantly changing with events Sonic and co. do in the present affecting the future), Flight (Infinite can fly), Sheer Will (Infinite could activate the Phantom Ruby prototype, which eggman and him pointed out only a being with strength of will could activate it), Aura (Infinite can create an aura around himself), Energy Projection (Infinite can attack with lasers), Teleportation (Infinite can teleport), Illusion Creation and Perception Manipulation (Type 3; Infinite can create illusion that can harm and kill others along with messing with one's perception of reality), Creation, Pocket Reality Manipulation and Battlefield Removal (Infinite can create a closed-off space called null space to banish his opponents), Mimicry (Physiology Mimicry; Infinite can create replicas of others who's powers are as formidable as the originals), Duplication (Infinite can duplicate himself), Homing Attack (Infinite can create attacks that home in on enemies).
Limited Resistance to Illusion Creation and Perception Manipulation (Infinite's Phantom Ruby prototype can cancel out the use of another Phantom Ruby prototype), Resistance to Information Analysis (The Miles Electric was unable to analyze his capabilities)

Equipment

  • Finalized Phantom Ruby prototype: The Phantom Ruby prototype is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a type of artificial duplicates of the real Phantom Ruby created by Dr. Eggman that possess similar powers as the original, but with more restrictions to their usage.
  • Sword: A crimson sword that Infinite can be seen wielding in the prequel comic Rise of Infinite.

Notable Techniques

  • Grind Step: When performing the Grind Step, the user, while grinding beside a parallel Grind Rail, does a jump over to the parallel rail at high speed, from where they continue grinding. In gameplay, this move enables the player to quickly and safely switch lanes when grinding in Grind Rail sections. This way, the player can dodge incoming obstacles on the Grind Rails while still maintaining speed or the Boost, as opposed to simply jumping to another rail.
  • Slide: The Slide is very similar to the Skid Attack, but better as it possesses greater range and speed. When performing the move, the user falls down while running and slides along the ground with their feet in front of them. Sometimes, this creates an aura field around the user. In gameplay, while sliding along the ground, the user can damage any enemies or smaller obstructions caught in their path. The Slide also allows the user to squeeze through narrow entrances, cracks, or doors. In some games however, using the Slide causes the playable character to slow down. How long the Slide lasts depends on the game; on its own, the move usually automatically lasts until the user gets hit, slows down from the Slide's friction, hits a wall, or goes off a ledge. If chosen though, the user can break the Slide at any time before coming to a halt, and resume their running nearly undisturbed. Therefore, if the player wants to keep their playable character's momentum when forced to do a Slide, it is advisable to time the Slide so that it is only performed briefly. The attack range, or rather, the distance and speed the user can slide, is determined by how fast the user was moving prior to performing the Slide. In other words, the faster the user is running when executing the Slide, the greater the distance the user of the Slide will travel.
  • Spin Jump: When performing the Spin Jump, the user jumps up into the air and curls into a ball, like when performing the Spin Attack. The user then starts rolling around midair at high speed.
  • V. Maximum Overdrive Attack: The V. Maximum Overdrive Attack is a technique usually reserved for robots. When performing this move, the user overloads their circuitry, causing blue sparks to emit from their body. The user then forms an energy field around their body that can penetrate any substance while they shoot themselves forward at four times their original acceleration. In gameplay, anyone caught in the V. Maximum Overdrive Attack will (usually) take damage.

*Phantom Copies: Infinite could also use his Ruby's power to create Phantom Copies that cause his victims to falsely perceive the presence of other characters. These copies are described by Shadow as having "mass and form, but no heart or soul". These copies, so long as Infinite desired, could also carry the memories, powers, and personalities of the originals. Accordingly, Infinite could create an unlimited number of them. He could also alter them to make them stronger than the originals, such as making a Metal Sonic Phantom Copy bigger and granting him the ability to use electrified versions of his energy cubes as well as to materialize objects to use as a shield.

  • Virtual Realities: Within his Ruby's virtual realities, Infinite was able to make himself faster and stronger than even Sonic. His speed was so great that he was able to outpace Sonic while he was boosting. Similarly, his strength became potent enough to knock away someone of Sonic's size with enough force to crack a concrete arch upon impact. He also used his Ruby to give himself the power of flight and levitation, deadly energy beam emission, energy ball projection, self-replication, size enhancement, shockwave manipulation, gravity distortion, object materialization, and teleportation. He was even able to manifest giant monsters in his likeness, trap beings in virtual realities, create a whole sun that moved according to his will, and mimic the special techniques of others, such as Metal Sonic's exclusive V. Maximum Overdrive Attack. In battle though, Infinite primarily used his finalized Phantom Ruby copy to generate crimson cubes that he could skillfully and willingly move around. If an opponent got struck by these cubes, they would be sent into a virtual reality where they were assailed by objects manifested by his Ruby's power. He could generate a large number of these cubes and arrange them into a variety of different shapes and forms.
  • Virtual Manipulation: After Infinite's fusion with the finalized Phantom Ruby copy, he acquired the ability to generate, destroy, and manipulate virtual realities, which he could turn into virtual reality projections to interact with reality. Said virtual realities are illusions, which Infinite creates by exercising control of one's visual and depth perception by feeding the brain false information. He was able to use his projections to enable his virtual realities to interact with the real world in order to bestow powers on himself. Having no limitations to the illusions he could create, Infinite had, within the influence of his Phantom Ruby, unlimited abilities.
  • Null Space: Using his finalized Phantom Ruby copy's power, Infinite was also capable of limited spatial manipulation, allowing him to create Null Spaces, which are seemingly inescapable spaces where movement is null. When opening portals into Null Spaces, Infinite could reinforce such portals to expand and suck everything nearby into them.

Other

Standard Tactics: Infinite will use his power over virtual reality to warp his opponent's perception of reality, creating numerous clones of various sonic villains to assist him in battling them. If he ever tires of toying with his opponent, He will create an artificial sun and throw it at them.

Weaknesses: Infinite thinks much to highly of himself leading him to believe he is superior to everyone around him, has a tendency of not finishing off his foes for his amusement, If he uses too much energy from the Phantom Ruby, he will have to recharge it.
