'''Rayquaza''' first appeared in Pokémon | '''Rayquaza''' first appeared in Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire and Emerald the 16 September 2004, as the primordial legendary to defeat the continental power of Groudon and Kyogre. Since then, Rayquaza appeared in a bunch of spin-off games such as Rumble Rush, Mystery Dungeon, Pikachu's adventure and even in non-Pokémon game such as Super Smash Bros. He finally achieved the power of Mega evolution through Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire appearing in the Delta Episode to defeat Deoxys. | ||
Physically, Rayquaza is a large, green, serpentine Pokémon that also resembles a missile. It has red-tipped, rudder-like wings on its shoulders and down its body, and similarly patterned fins on the tip of its tail. Yellow ring-like symbols run across the length of Rayquaza's body and it has an additional yellow ring on top of its head. Rayquaza has two limbs with three-clawed hands, and two long, flat, horn-like structures on its head, with two shorter horns along its jawline. It has small, yellow eyes with black pupils, prominent pink gums, and two discernible fangs in its upper jaw. | Physically, Rayquaza is a large, green, serpentine Pokémon that also resembles a missile. “ | The great meteoroid was the first of many disasters to befall humanity. When it punched into the planet, the land cracker beneath it, and a great welling of natural energy poured from beneath Hoenn. Thirsting for that energy, Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon once again woke. The people had a wish- a memory from a thousand years before... They wished that the legendary Pokémon clad in emerald light would appear again. The huge Meteorite that lay at the heart of Sootopolis gave off a boundless brilliance. In its brilliance, it resembled a vast and powerful Key Stone. And once again, Rayquaza descended from whence it came in the heavens. The people fell to their knees before Rayquaza and made a wish for salvation. As they did, a great change came over the Legendary Pokémon. It was enveloped in blinding light. As the light receded, they beheld a Rayquaza beyond all knowledge- a sublime figure, incandescent with overwhelming life force. | „ |
~ Zinnia to Brendan |
Background
Rayquaza first appeared in Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire and Emerald the 16 September 2004, as the primordial legendary to defeat the continental power of Groudon and Kyogre.
As Mega Rayquaza, its body becomes longer and gains more features. Its head becomes longer with the Δ symbol appearing on its forehead. Rayquaza's eyes now contain yellow pupils and red irises, and black, shichishito-shaped markings trail behind its eyes. Its red lips and teeth become gold, and the gold lines connect to those on its lower horns, which take on a broad, triangular shape. At the outer edges of its lower horns are long, golden, glowing tendrils that each extend to a green, fin-like structure; these tendrils have ring patterns that strongly resemble the yellow markings running along the length of Rayquaza's normal form. While in flight, these tendrils give Mega Rayquaza a Δ-shaped profile. Its two upper horns become longer with a gold line running over them in a V shape, and each upper horn has another glowing tendril that ends in a circular shape with a spike. Along the length of its body are golden, glowing orbs placed where its ring patterns used to be. The chin, part of the neck, and parts of its serpentine body are changed to the color black. The fins running along its body are now marked with gold lines; the fins on its tail become entirely yellow and substantially longer. Particles stream from the long tendrils that extend from its jutting jaw; these particles can control the density and humidity of the air, allowing Mega Rayquaza to manipulate the weather. Its green hide sparkles with an emerald-like quality.
Rayquaza's home is in the ozone layers where he's said to have been living for millions of years by feeding on particles. Rayquaza is rarely seen by people even while flying and has almost never appeared to the human eye. Rayquaza would also absorbs meteorite it founds to enhance his power over Mega evolution but nothing else is much known about him.

Other
Standard Tactics: Will use Dragon Dance to enhance his speed and attack before attacking his opponent with Extreme Speed or Dragon Pulse | Will try to Power Null the opponent with his wind and greenish light. If the opponent is too far away it'll immediately go into the ozone layer and descend to charge at the opponent at high speeds with Dragon Ascent.
Weaknesses: Dragon and Flying types are weak to Fairy, Dragons, Rock and extremely weak to Ice type moves. However, Delta Stream removes his weakness to Rock type and reduces the damage of Ice type move upon Mega Evolving.
Note: As Rayquaza absorbs meteorite into himself in order to gain enough power to Mega Evolve, and the fact his bond is reliant to people’s wish for salvation over him. Rayquaza is the only Pokémon able to Mega Evolve without a specific trainer bond or the need to hold an item. However, he would still need someone's wish over him and a keystone, therefore shouldn't be considered as a form he can use anytime.
