“ | Your name gets thrown around quite a bit, Alucard. The things people say...They tell stories of your amazing strength. How you glide through oceans of blood. They call you nightwalker. Beyond human. A monster whose powers radiate with the darkness that casts the shadow on darkness itself. Finally I get to know once and for all if there's anything more to you than rumor. When I was human I feared you. The stories, anyway. And when I gave up being human, when I became this, I began to admire you. You, the first great pioneer of immortality. No matter what the rest of us do really were all just chasing your shadow. | „ |
Background
Luke Valentine, with his brother Jan Valentine, was a vampire and minor antagonist in the beginning of the Hellsing series.
This dropdown contains the synopsis of ’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise! |
---|
He and his brother Jan are both sent to attack the Hellsing headquarters. Luke is later sent to battle Alucard, and he believes himself to be more than a match for Alucard. He soon finds that this is far from the truth, being soundly beaten by Alucard, who pleads with Luke to call upon more powerful vampiric abilities (having already been impressed by Luke's speed and reflexes) but is disappointed and disgusted to find Luke can't even heal his severed legs. Alucard then quips that in life (as a vampire), Luke was useless and pathetic. In response, Luke calls Alucard "a dog for the church of England," before the latter interrupts him. Luke later became "dog food" for Alucard's hell-hound. Alucard then mocks the demise of Luke Valentine, saying that the latter is nothing more than "dog shit." Luke would later reappear from the hell-hound's corpse with only his upper body free. Confused with this situation, he is quickly killed again by Walter's strings and his and half of Baskerville's body are forced to attack Alucard. This manages to push Alucard for awhile but he eventually shoots Luke and stops the attack. As Walter goes to stab an severely injured Alucard in the heart, it is revealed to be Luke's body acting as a double. This allows Alucard (in his Girlycard form) to sneak up on him. Alucard then happily remarks at how surprised he is at how useful Luke was. |
General Information
Name: Luke Valentine
Origin: Hellsing
Sex: Male
Age: Unknown
Classification: The Brother
Species: Vampire
Occupation: Warrant Officer
Status: Deceased (His soul was destroyed during Alucard's fight against Walter)
Alignment: Lawful Evil (A Warrant Officer in The Major's Nazi Army, following his orders. Killed innocent guards with no real remorse[1])
Codex Statistics
Tier: Low 8-C
Cardinality: Finite
Dimensionality: 3-D
Attack Potency: Small Building level (Fought equally with a casual base Alucard[2], who tanked the destruction of the SR-71 reconnaissance jet[3][4], which gives these levels. Casually destroyed a door[5]. Noted by Alucard as someone above even a "Category A" vampire[6], where vampires are noted to be exceeedling powerful, being able to tear through humans like they were mere rags[7]. Should be superior to vampires Alucard deems disgraceful, who can easily kill humans and rip apart their bodies and torsos[8])
Durability: Small Building level
Striking Strength: Small Building Class
Lifting Strength: At least Superhuman (Vampires are noted to be exceedingly powerful, being able to tear through humans like they were mere rags[9]. Should be comparable to the likes of Seras Victoria who can casually lift several extremely large firearms and weapons on her back with no issues[10], and is normally ordered by Alucard to move his and her caskets around[11], which as oversized caskets, weigh around 500 lbs each)
Travel Speed: Superhuman (Should be comparable to other vampires who can move far faster then the eye can see[12]. Moved fast enough to appear as a blur during his fight with Alucard[13])
Attack Speed: High Hypersonic
Reaction Speed: High Hypersonic (Superior to regular vampires who can avoid point blank gunshots from[14] Rip Van Winkle's gun, which can circle around and tag a[15] SR-71 reconnaissance jet[16], that was nosediving at full speed[17], which is noted to move faster then mach 3[18], giving the bullet these speeds[19])
Stamina: Superhuman (Fought equally with a casual base Alucard[20] without showing any real signs of tiring)
Range: Standard Melee, Kilometers with Firearms (Vampires through using their third eye are able to see targets even from 600 meters away at nighttime[21])
Intelligence: Genius Intelligence (Luke is skilled in sharpshooting, going toe-to-toe with a casual Alucard[22]. Noted by Alucard to have excellent reflexive ability and listed Luke as someone above even a "Category A" vampire[23])
Powers and Techniques
Equipment
- Pistol: A gun that seems to be based off a sawed off M1 Garand. Used it to skillfully duel with a casual Alucard.
Notable Techniques
- Enhanced Reflexes: While his brother Jan, with the over-the-top strength and agility, is more of a basic vampire, Luke in particular demonstrates an extreme form of celerity. He can easily dodge bullets and slice his enemies to pieces before they could even react.
- Regeneration: Luke was capable of regenerating wounds such as being stabbed in the chest by spears and being shot in the head by the Casull. His regeneration isn't unlimited, however. When Alucard shot off his legs, he couldn't heal his wounds, and fell short on their battle.
Other
Standard Tactics: Luke will use his gun and consistently shoot at the oppnent while also attempting to fight htem in hand to hand combat.
Weaknesses: Any servants or ghouls of vampires will perish if the head vampire is killed[75]. Along with this, the process of a corpse turning into a ghoul is not instantaneous and can take some time, allowing one to dispose of the corpse before it can turn into a ghoul[76]. A vampire will be killed if an attack goes through their heart[77]. Vampires can't plug up wounds gotten from a weapon blessed by a church[78]. Vampires can be trapped within holy barriers[79]. Vampires must sleep in a coffin in order to not have their powers weaken[80]. Vampires are unable to cross running waters[81], it's furhter noted that they cannot cross rivers, oceans, lakes or flowing canals[82]. Vampires carry a weakness to sunlight[83]. Vampires detest garlic and crosses[84]. Eucharist wafers and holy water can burn a vampire's flesh[85]. Vampires can have their illusions negated through their true self being attacked[86]. If a vampire fuses with a concept such as Schrödinger's Cat, they run the risk of being erased based off the the concept[87][88][89][90].
Trivia
- Despite having a severed arm during his final [OVA II] moments, it is worth noting that he could regenerate inside Baskerville (with the exception of his legs).
- In OVA II, Alucard remarks near the end of their battle that he considers Luke "above even a Class A vampire"; in the anime, however, he simply saw him as a "Class A Vampire".
- It is worth noting that Luke Valentine is the only member of the Millennium Group to be killed by Alucard exactly the same way in every incarnation of the series (manga, Gonzo series and OVAs).
- The 9th Volume and OVA reveal that Luke, unlike his brother, holds a military rank within Millennium, namely Warrant Officer (the same as Schrödinger).
- It is interesting to note that the nationalities of the brothers is never made clear, although it seems they are from the United States, judging by their dialogue in the manga, which is devoid of British phrases such as "wanker" (which at least Jan would've used at some point), or German pronunciations (like "ve" instead of "we"), or, if they were thought to be British, the fact that they aren't at all phased that one of Millennium's plans is to wipe out London in what can be thought of as a terrorist attack.
- Despite the fact that in the manga, only Jan's hat is present in the Valentine brothers' shrine, in the 10th OVA, Luke's curved knife is now his shrine.
- Luke's gun is based off of a sawed off M1 Garand. There is an actual gun design called the "Enforcer" M1. They were produced mainly in the 60's and 70's by a variety of manufacturers, including Iver Johnson and Universal.
