Homelander
Amazon

I'm the Homelander. And I can do whatever the fuck I want.
~ Homelander
You just don't get it, do you? I mean you have no fucking grasp of the situation you're in at all, right? I'm gonna break it down one more time, and I'm gonna make it crystal clear so that even you can understand it, okay? There will be no more plotting, planning, playing around. That is over, okay? From here on out, there is only my dutiful, loving main squeeze Starlight, worshiping me and me alone. Because if you step one inch out of line, I mean i-if you so much fucking blink the wrong way, then that, my love, will be Hughie.
~ Homelander to Starlight
Let's get one thing straight. The only reason you're here and not doing corporate PR for fucking Diva Cups is that I brought you here. You are dispensable, which means you answer to me... From now on, I will set my own agenda, I'll approve my own marketing and write my own talking points. You will tell me everything that goes on on the 99th floor, and I mean everything. Every call, e-mail, group chat. If a fucking light bulb goes out, you will tell me. And, Ashley, in no fucking way do you decide who goes in The Seven. I decide. Do we have an understanding?
~ Homelander threatening Ashley
You guys are the real heroes.
~ Homelander's catchphrase
Say, you guys ever hear of the Whitehall Tigers? What? No? Ah, that's okay. That was my team back as a kid. Back then, I only wanted

to do two things, play baseball and play baseball. Every night on the farm, playing catch with my dad, I'd dream of the big leagues. Hitting a homer at Yankee Stadium. Heck, I would've settled for just warming the bench at Yankee Stadium. What I'm saying is, my baseball career didn't exactly work out, but Vought? Well, Vought is the big leagues for someone like me. A chance to use my gifts to help make the world a better place. New York's a lot rougher than a Whitehall baseball diamond.

~ Homelander's false introduction
You guys are the real heroes.
~ Homelander's catchphrase

Background

The Homelander is the main antagonist of the 2019 Amazon Prime TV adaptation of the highly controversial adult comic-book series The Boys. He serves as the main antagonist of the first season, one of the three main antagonists (along with Stormfront and Stan Edgar) of the second season, and will return in the third season. He also appears in the animated spin-off series, The Boys Presents: Diabolical.

Homelander is the most powerful superhero produced by Vought-International and the leader of the famous superhero team known as The Seven. Like the comics, he is leader of The Seven and is an arrogant, violent "hero" who cares more about his public image than saving others. While putting on the front of a flawless and pure superhero team, Homelander and The Seven are in fact responsible for causing much more destruction and death than they prevent. However, their crimes are covered up by Vought through their vast media connections and resources.

Among the Seven, Homelander is seemingly the most incorruptible, not partaking in many of the vices his fellow superheroes engage in such as drugs and sex. However, beneath the act he puts up, Homelander is the worst one of all, regarding non-Supes as "mud-people" and taking joy in using his superpowers to kill people. He is the archenemy of Billy Butcher, having raped and allegedly murdered his wife while she was his social media manager at Vought. He later regards Butcher as his arch-enemy as well after the events of the second season.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Homelander’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

On the surface, Homelander presents himself as a charismatic superhero, warm, encouraging, altruistic and revolted by any form of injustice. He often encourages his allies by telling them "that they are the real heroes". This only serves as a façade for when he wishes to be presentable however, and is quick to show his true side when necessary even towards those he has vowed to protect.

In reality, he is an apathetic, selfish, uncaring, merciless, sadistic, psychopathic, troubled, cold, vile, hypocritical, arrogant, and above all ruthless and horrid narcissist. Because of his immense power, he believes that he is superior to the whole of humanity; that is how he does not hesitate to crash a plane, letting dozens of people die or use his power to get what he wants. His manipulative and devious side is also demonstrated when he pursues his own plans behind Madelyn Stillwell's back, creating super-terrorists with the complicity of A-Train.

Unlike his comic book counterpart who was framed by the comic book Black Noir for many of his crimes and driven crazy, this Homelander is evil of his own volition, willingly killing people in order to satiate his bloodlust and being the person who raped Billy's wife, while the TV series Black Noir had nothing to do with it (from what we know so far). Homelander is also very controlling, hating receiving orders from Vought and he forces Ashley to be secretly his puppet when she replaces Stillwell and to let him do whatever he wants.

While an unrepentant sociopath, Homelander does have a desire of the love and affection he never had as a child which causes him to have a soft spot for Madelyn Stillwell of whom he looks up to as a surrogate mother figure. In addition to this, Homelander also shows an attraction to Stillwell and appears to view her in both a matrilineal and sexual light, roleplaying with her as a mother and child in their sexual encounters. Beyond her value to him as a sexual partner though, Homelander has little care for Stillwell as a human being and ultimately killed her when he found out she kept the truth of his child from him. After her death, Homelander would force Doppelganger to shape-shift into her so he could relive some of their sexual encounters, showing his care for her was only out of what she meant to him. He also showed an interest in Queen Maeve and the two appeared to have dated at some point, though after Homelander discovered she was bisexual he willingly let her go, likely out of the realization that she could never be attracted to him and possibly due to him never truly caring about her beyond her value as a pawn. Homelander is somewhat lazy as well, preferring to use his laser beams everytime instead of using more pragmatic means to stop criminals, which often leads to him causing more damage than criminals he intends to stop, like causing a plane to crash and accidentally killing a child.

Likely as a result of being raised to be Vought's premier superhero and lack of proper childhood, Homelander has an extreme sense of narcissism and, while cruel and uncaring towards civilians behind-the-scenes, longs for their love and attention as further validation for himself. He is prideful about his status as the world's best superhero and is incredibly hostile to anyone who would challenge his popularity or position as leader of the Seven, such as Stormfront. Furthermore, like his fellow superheroes, he is good at playing the system and tricking the world into thinking that their actions are justified. He does so while doing anything possible to cover up the crimes that even their most loyal followers will despise them for if they ever find out.

Despite all the bad things he's done, Homelander does actually care about his son, Ryan, seemingly empathizing with him after he has a panic attack from being surrounded by many people, as he had the same happen to him. Homelander points out that he doesn't want his son to grow up the same way he did, isolated, which shows he does care.

He also came to genuinely care about his lover Stormfront. While he originally was more than ready to kill her when he thought she was betraying him he looked genuinely saddened upon seeing her crippled and incinerated.

Statistics

Tier: At least 7-B

Name: John, Homelander

Origin: The Boys

Sex: Male

Age: 28

Classification: Supe (Genetically enhanced human given Compound V), Leader of The Seven, The World's Greatest Superhero

Status: Alive

Alignment: Neutral Good initially (Homelander was your standard hero back then and genuinely wanted to help people. He was noted to be a nice kid back then by the people who raised him. It was until he accidentally killed someone is when he went mad due to his trauma of abuse he has for his entire life) to Neutral Evil (Homelander often has very little morals and only does things for pleasure or fame. He's abused his position of a superhero to do whatever he wants. He's murdered not only criminals who beg to just be arrested, but also innocent lives, including children. He threatens those that attempt to overthrow or not follow his orders, typically using intimidation to force those. He's committed blackmail on various people and has destroyed various locations without a single care. He commonly uses his position to cover up his tracks, only so people can praise him as the greatest hero. He's sexually harassed and raped various women, forcing them to do it or else he'd kill them. Homelander also stalks people, caused mental trauma to people, or have sex at the scene of murder. He lies to his audience to make his peers look bad, having a massive ego himself. He's killed people he genuinely loved with no hesitation. Homelander also forced his way into the home of his son and forced him to spend time with each other. He forced his son to fly when the latter was too scared to do so, and pushed him off of the roof, knocking him out in doing so while not giving a single care. He'll force others to commit murder in front of him, or he'll kill both of them. He assaults anyone attempting to join The Seven if he sees them as unfit. Homelander would also give out personal information to the public, and force relationships to happen with people, otherwise he'd simply kill them. He kidnapped his son Ryan, and would refuse to give him away until he was being blackmailed)

Dimensionality: 3-D

Attack Potency: At least City level (According to Stillwell, she stated that there isn't a weapon on Earth that can kill Homelander.[1] This would include nukes such as the Tsar Bomba, which reaches a blast yield of 58 megatons of TNT)

Durability: At least City level (Can survive any man-made weapon according to Stillwell[2]. Survived an oil rig explosion without taking any damage[3])

Striking Strength: At least City Class

Lifting Strength: Class K (Stated he can lift up a plane if there was ground for him to stand on[4], otherwise he'd fly through it due to fall velocity)

Travel Speed: Massively Hypersonic (Saved Butcher and got him out of the house as C4 was exploded[5], which was calculated at these speeds)

Combat Speed: FTL (Has heat vision that fires lasers. Fought Butcher, who reacted to his lasers[6])

Reaction Speed: FTL (Dodged a laser beam shot by Butcher[7])

Stamina: Likely Peak Human (Due to being far stronger than every human in all aspects, Homelander should have such stamina. However, he did seem to tire quickly when sleeping with Stillwell)

Range: Standard Melee Range, Hundreds of Meters with Heat Vision

Intelligence: Above Average (Homelander has committed murders and crimes for years without being caught, however he did have some help from Vought International to cover up his tracks. He's skilled in manipulation and threatening)

Powers and Abilities

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Martial Arts (Received some training by Vought International as he was growing up[8]. Fought against others with combat experienced such as Soldier Boy and Billy Butcher[9], as well as Queen Maeve[10]), Flight (Has the natural ability to fly[11]), Heat Manipulation & Energy Projection (Able to fire lasers from his eyes as a projectile[12] to burn those hit by it[13]), Enhanced Senses (Homelander has x-ray vision that allows him to see through objects[14]. Used his x-ray vision to see through a wall to see Madelyn and then zoomed in on her slowly to get a closer look[15]. X-rayed Stan Edgar, stating that he is very close to a coronary because his blood is like engine oil[16]. He was able to accurately tell Hughie's blood pressure[17]. Stillwell stated that he used his X-ray vision to spy on her[18]. Stated by Butcher that he knows he's seeing him through the ceiling[19]. Has super hearing that allows him to hear better[20]. Heard Grace grab her phone at a notable distance[21]), Bulletproof (Is completely immune to gunfire[22], and is unfazed by dozens of bullets hitting his chest[23]), Limited Attack Reflection (Should scale far above Translucent, who's body is hard enough to reflect bullets, such as when Butcher fired a gun at him[24]), Afterimage Creation (Able to create afterimages from sheer speed[25]), Berserk Mode (Went into a berserk mode after first being called a killer[26]), Bloodlust, Social Influencing (Homelander typically uses[27] his intimation to blackmail those in order to make them obey[28]). Resistance to Electricity Manipulation (Should scale far above Translucent, who can take multiple rounds of electricity[29] that is enough to kill a water buffalo[30]), Heat Manipulation & Fire Manipulation (Superior to Black Noir, who can survive close explosions from Naqib[31]. Superior to Translucent, who's skin cannot be burnt, even after death[32]. Should be able to survive nukes and other heat based weapons if no weapon on Earth can kill Homelander[33]), Disease Manipulation (Sun-Hee got rid of her cancer after using Compound V[34]), Sleep Manipulation (Should scale to Soldier Boy, who resisted the effects of[35] halothane), Poison Manipulation (Should resist various poisons if no weapon can kill him[36]. Comparable to Soldier Boy who can withstand ingesting sulfuric acid cocktails[37], and would be merely knocked out by Novichok, one of the most dangerous toxins in the world[38]), Mind Manipulation (Comparable to Soldier Boy who was able to resist Mindstorm's mind control[39]), Radiation Manipulation (Comparable to Soldier Boy, who withstood being exposed to 20 sieverts of radiation[40])

Standard Equipment

None.

Optional Equipment: Guns

Other

Standard Tactics: Homelander is most likely to use his heat vision to fire at his opponent. In close combat, he'd use his superhuman strength to crush or dismember his opponent.

Weaknesses: Egotistical and is mentally unstable. His x-ray vision does not work on zinc, and he's susceptible to loud noises.
