“ | Me, I'm not a great student, and I'm a crappy athlete. But I have friends, and I have fun. I have my own little life. And right around when I die... I bet I'll have some big realization of my own. I'm an average person. But a spirit can benefit a lot from an average life, too. | „ |

This character or verse has mature themes and concepts, thus those of young age are ill-advised to look through these. |
“ | ...I actually wanted to become a warrior. Only warriors have the strength to protect. Not the oracles or the holy ones. The spirits are telling me. The earth doesn't want blood. The ceremonies aren't causing any miracles. Birth and death should be left to fate. Sacrifice. You said sacrifice! Just now! You don't actually like it, do you? Let's run away together!! Let's abandon the village!! For me... ...As long as I have you, I don't need anything else!! Tell me you don't want to die!! If you do, I... A warrior... I wanted to be a warrior... Then I could protect what I cherished. A warrior... | „ |
“ | Since I was little, I wanted to become a knight. A protector of the people and of order. And I... ...As the eldest son of a noble family, have a responsibility to protect the people. That is why I voluntereed to take part in subjugation of a witch. I will defeat those who misguide the hearts of the people and disrupt order. I don't want to distinguish myself in battle. I want to know I protected the people. I am finally the knight I wanted to become. Now I will fufill my duty...!! | „ |
“ | I can't believe my life is ending just like my brother, who I mocked the other day. Hah. Guess there is a god. Sorry, Rei. I won't make it. Don't cry. Your smile is my reason for living... Huh? Was I singing? No, I wasn't singing. But... I killed a witch who cursed me, and I resented her. I killed assassins who had come to kill me... I had grown so used to killing. I spent my days on drink, complaints, and grudes. How can such a hopeless man... ...Deserve such happiness? Unable to see my little girl become a bride... I abandoned her in the middle of our journey. Find happiness on your own... I'm sorry, Rei. I'm going first this time. I love you. | „ |

Fone is chronologically Fuuta's second incarnation though. Fone was born in an unknown village in South America. As he grew up, he discovered his ability to speak with the spirits of the nearby forest. When he told his father, he warned Fone not to reveal this, since the priests believed only they could do this. One day, while speaking to the spirits in the forest, he met a girl named Rei who was looking for medicine for her sickly mother. After relaying the spirits' information about useful herbs, she gathered them and returned home. She later came back to thank Fone for helping her out, and the two became friends. Over the next two years, the two of them grew closer together, until they became lovers. During this time, Fone crafted a pair of sandals specifically for her. When Fone learned that Rei was going to be that year's sacrifice, he was shocked. Although he tried to convince her to run away with him, Rei declined, stating that her death was for the benefit of all the villagers. After thinking it over, Fone decided to save her no matter what. On the day of the ritual, Fone interrupted the silent prayer by running up to the altar. He fought his way up the altar stairs, where he saw that Rei had already been killed. When he rushed up to the priestess who killed her, he managed to tear her mask off, but was also killed in the process. |

---|
In his later years he finds an infant left by his door, and attempts to bring it to a church, hoping it would provide sanctuary for the babe. Instead the priest tells Vann to raise the child himself, and gives him some bread and sends him away. As he looks at the baby again, he subconsciously recognises the infant to be Rei, but only remembers the name. Seeing as the baby seemed to like the sound of the name, he decides to name her Rei. He cries, not knowing the reason for his tears. He begins to work and raise Rei as his own, with some help from a farmwoman who helped provide goat's milk and taught him how to raise her. As Rei grows older, she asks what happened to her mother. Vann lies about her mother having passed away, and his lies become more elaborate with time. He spins tall tales about his past, claiming to have been a hero. His days with Rei comfort him more than drinking did and he lets go of his hate for the witch he killed many years earlier. He sells his sword to buy Rei new clothes and sets off with her to find her a husband. Rei recounts a dream where she was Rei from Fone's life, and that she was directed by God to go to Vann's side and comfort him. Vann cries at the story and thinks of how proud he is of Rei. He travels back to his old home, the Flantyr holding, only to discover it had burnt down. On his way to find Cielo, a man he has decided would be a good husband to Rei, he strikes his head on a rock when he lost his footing just as they reach the village. As he lies dying, he wonders if deserved the happiness Rei brought him, he expresses his love for her and dies with no regrets. |

---|
Flors is chronologically Fuuta's fourth incarnation. Flors was born in the Ancient Greek/Egyptian era. From a young age, Flors was upset by his parents' constant fighting. They blamed their bad relationship on his facial birthmark. Because of this, Flors looked up to his tutor as a surrogate father. After many years, his master was tasked with building a monument in Egypt by the scholar Arbor. However, he was unable to go, so Flors went in his place. An upper-class woman named Lihanerra and her servant Kertenos also came with him. There, he met with Roca, the scholar's seer who was also one of Kouko's incarnations. In between his work, Roca tried to convince Flors about his past lives. She warned him that if they do not fix their hatred towards each other in this life, then it will carry on to their next life, but Flors wouldn't believe it. After successfully building the Sphinx, he returned home, where people began referring to him as "Master Sphinx." This frustrated Flors, as he wanted to redo his project, but was unable to. Because of this, he would often sit by the sea and ponder over his failure. One day, Lihanerra showed up once again. Her father, noticing Flors' growing fame, wanted to marry her off to him. Flors accepted, and they were married a few weeks later. Many years later, they had a child. Despite this, however, Flors was still unhappy with his life. After Lihanerra's death, Flors found that he couldn't shed any tears over it. His son, angered at his unloving attitude, left to apprentice under a different master. Flors later took on the task of building a library in his hometown. This was partly driven by Lihanerra pushing him to take on this job. After finishing it, he retired from working, saying that his apprentices would succeed him. On an unknown day, Flors met up with Kertenos, who had returned briefly. They told their life stories to each other, and went to visit Lihanerra's grave. After Kertenos leaves, Flors begins crying, saying that Lihanerra was the only one who still called him by his name. Mourning his lost love, he vows to make things right in his next life. Finished with his story, Flors realizes that the child he'd been talking to was actually a cat. As he thought he was going crazy, Flors returned home. Along the way, he notes someone calling him "Master Librarian." That night, he notes that he's dying, and wonders if anyone will find his body. Growing fearful, he begs for someone to say his name, before finally dying. |
Houtarou was born in an illicit relationship between the Furan daimyo and his mistress. In order to prevent a conflict with succession, he and his mother were disowned, and began living with his grandfather. From him, Houtarou learned how to be a blacksmith.
Despite being disowned, his brother Kajirou forbade his sister Rihama from visiting him, and continued to send assassins after him. In order to protect him, Rihama paid a bodyguard, Jinkurou, to assist him in fighting the assassins off. Jinkurou then began living with him.
Later on, a man named Oobayashi was sent to kill Houtarou, believing that he was plotting to take control from Kajirou. However, after clearing up the misunderstanding, Oobayashi was ordered to train Houtarou and Jinkurou in proper sword-fighting. He also told them about how Kajirou had angered the Tokugawa clan's messenger, Iwana, and that the Furan house was likely to fall soon.
Houtarou begs Jinkurou to save his sister, which Jinkurou readily agrees to. Houtarou then states his intention to go along, and the two of them set out to save the princess.
Meeting near the secret pathway, Houtarou meets with Rihama, Oobayashi, and Matsu (His and Rihama's wet-nurse).The sixth reincarnation of Fuuta that is introduced. Fuuko is the only female reincarnation, and one of the few that gets along well with the Koko incarnation of her time. She meets aliens in her timeline. Fuuko was born in Japan around the beginning of the 21st century. After entering grade school, she met her main friends: Kosuke, Tenko, Tae, Nonomiya, and Umi. During the year Showa 91, Fuuko and her friends decided to go camping, with Fuuko secretly wanting to learn more about the "Fuji Roof." However, she and Kosuke soon got separated from their friends. As they continued moving on, they encountered a strange-looking robot.
The seventh reincarnation of Fuuta that is introduced, Fortuna is a pivotal character and in many ways the antagonist of Spirit Circle. While he is the sixth incarnation introduced, he was in reality the first incarnation. From his actions in the far future, the plot of Spirit Circle stems.

---|
From a young age, Fortuna was not very comfortable living with his parents. Instead, he trained under the spirit-master Rei, who was the only person who understood his intellect. One day after his lessons with Master Rei, he experimented and created the artificial spirit Rune. This resulted in his former master banishing him. Upset by this, he created his own research lab, and took in his friend East as an apprentice. Over the next several years, Fortuna trained him in the art of spirits. One snowy day, East discovered a young child who had been nearly killed by wolves. Although Fortuna refused to take care of her, instead making East do it, he decided to name her Koko and eventually made her his apprentice when she was old enough. Fortuna, East, Rune, and Koko were happy together, like one large family. However, this all came to a halt when East began developing the same disease that had previously killed Master Rei. His attempts to save East led to the creation of the first spirit circle, which Fortuna then charged with power from the spirit forges. This resulted in the forges collapsing, killing many innocent people. When Koko confronted him about this, he appeared disconnected and unremorseful, as he saw East's life as more important than hundreds of strangers'. He then proceeded to separate East's spirit from his body as a means of preserving his consciousness beyond his imminent death. After 'saving' East, he fled with Rune, East, and Koko in order to escape capture. After arriving at a port town, Koko realized that Fortuna has no regard for human lives other than those around him. She then took the spirit circle and left with East, in the process attracting the attention of the guards. Fortuna is then forced to flee with the aid of Rune. Fortuna began traveling from city to city, evading capture by spreading misinformation about his physical appearance. During this time, he produced another spirit circle, reusing some of the energy from the previous one. He is eventually confronted by city guards, and used the spirit circle to raise the undead to kill them. After deciding to use this power to take the city for himself, he secluded himself in the library to study the 'ancient civilization.' He devoted all his time to his study, so much so that he lost track of time until Koko appeared before him again, having fought her way through the city in order to kill him. Not having much grasp of the situation, Fortuna conversed with Koko as if nothing had happened. After proposing that they live together once again, he began excitedly talking about his discoveries. He also revealed his plan to use the spirit circle to absorb the Earth's energy, becoming space itself and gaining the ability to traverse 'worlds of other possibilities and space-time values.' Deciding that Fortuna still showed no remorse, Koko attempted to kill him once more, but he fled with his reanimated soldiers. As he fled, he encountered East, who expressed sadness and disappointment in what Fortuna has become and done. Fortuna recognized that there's no going back to what they once had, and began making his way towards the Basin of Darkness. After arriving, Rune lamented about what Fortuna has become. As he admitted that he can no longer change himself, Fortuna revealed that the spirit circle allowed him to peer into his future incarnations. As he experienced each of their lives, he realized that in Okeya Fuuta's lifetime, Kouko will destroy his spirit, putting an end to his cycle of rebirth. While he dismissed it as only a possibility, he remained perturbed, and decided to work toward his goal of becoming a god. Coming forward, Fortuna summoned the Subspace Shelter, a device from Lafalle's time. He used it to send a message to all of humanity, stating that they must resist him, or every living person will be turned into an undead soldier. Gathering with an army of soldiers, Koko faced off against Fortuna. He attempted to envelop the world with his spirit circle to consume it, but Koko resists it with her own. After a fierce struggle, the planet's spirit, Spascifica, ultimately repelled Fortuna's attack. Frustrated, Fortuna then leapt to attack Koko. In the ensuing fight, they strike fatal blows on each other, but fail to destroy each other's souls. In the process, Fortuna's spirit circle absorbed a tiny piece of Koko's soul, connecting their fates so that their relationship would be recreated in subsequent lives. He then told Rune to take his spirit circle, and wait in his spirit dimension, and told East to do the same with Koko. As he toppled into the basin, Fortuna planned to change the future he previously saw, and dies. |
