Ayla fight while alive! Win and live. Lose and die. Rule of life. No change rule.
~ Ayla
Ayla Render By Valor-Girl.

Background

Ayla is first introduced to the party when Crono and his friends visit the prehistoric era to repair Frog's sword, The Masamune, to assist in their battle against Magus, leader of the Mystics and murderer of Frog's best friend Cyrus. The broken pieces of the Masamune are acquired after the party defeats Masa and Mune, the guardians of the blade. The shards are taken to Melchior, a swordsmith and Guru, who cannot repair the blade without Dreamstone, a crimson-colored rock of ancient origin—so ancient that the party must travel millions of years into the past to recover a sample. Upon their arrival in Mystic Mountain, they are ambushed by a seemingly ceaseless swarm of Reptites. Ayla shows up to fight them off and invites the time-travelers to her village for a party. Ayla, as chieftain due to her strength and will, is the keeper of the Dreamstone, and during the party, if Crono beats Ayla at an alcohol-chugging competition (censored in the English version as "soup"), she willingly forks it over. However, when the sun rises the next day, they find the camp has been ransacked by Reptites and the Gate Key stolen. Tracking the reptilian marauders to Forest Maze, Ayla convincesKino to admit he had stolen the Gate Key out of jealousy, after which point the Reptites stole it from him. Ayla, Crono, and the others invade the Reptite Lair, defeat Nizbel, and take the Gate Key from Azala so they can return to the present and repair the sword.

She does not appear again until the battle against Magus transports the party back to Prehistory. Alongside Ayla, Crono and the others battle the Reptites and witness the origin of Lavos at Tyranno Lair. As the alien parasite falls from the sky as a "Red Star", Azala predicts an Ice Age will claim the land. It is at this point that Ayla names "Lavos", a word she made up from the root words "La" meaning "fire" and "Vos" "big" in the Iokan language.

Ayla's strong morals convince her to join the party permanently after this.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Ayla’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Chrono Trigger Prior to the year 65,000,000 BC., Ayla became chief of Ioka village due to her strength and fearlessness, acquiring a Piece of the Dreamstone as a symbol of that office. She led her people in the war against the Reptites, assumedly since the beginning of her time as chief. When the mysterious time-travelers from the Future arrived, Ayla temporarily relinquished her post to join them in their quest to stop Lavos. Kino, her mate, probably served as chief in her place. Outside the Forest Maze, right before the defeat of Nizbel in the Reptite Lair, she mentions that upon falling terminally ill or upon dying, Kino will become chief of the Ioka Village. Because of this, it seems that the title of chief does not necessarily travel to the strongest or most courageous of the Iokan Tribe, but rather, progresses to the spouse or the next genetic heir, much like the monarchy that exists in following eras.

After Lavos hits the planet, dust blasts into the atmosphere and blocks out the sun. This causes an ice age and the extinction of the Reptites; Ayla subsequently retires from her duties as chief; and after the defeat of Lavos, Ayla returned to the time era 65,000,000 BC. and then she married Kino with a Dreamstone ring. As she is the distant ancestor of Marle and the Guardia Royal Family, she and he produced a lineage that survived the Ice Age and even survived the Fall of Zeal.

Chrono Cross In Chrono Cross, Ayla does not make an appearance in the game; but, however, a young girl from a prehistoric era named Leah bears a strong striking resemblance to her in manner and appearance. Leah also told Serge at the end of the game that she will name her child "Ayla", the name meaning "New song of land" according to her.

Statistics

Key: Early Game | Pre-Vortex | Post-Vortex

Name: Ayla

Origin: Chrono Trigger

Sex: Female

Age: 24

Classification: Time Traveler, Caveman, Party Member

Species: Human, Iokan

Occupation: Village Chief

Status: Unknown (The fate of Ayla after the ending of Chrono Trigger is unknown with Chrono Cross alluding to Crono and Lucca being killed by Lynx and Harle but with no direct confirmation being given. Along with this, in Chrono Cross there exists a Crono, Lucca, and Marle all deceased from a timeline where they lost to Lavos, no longer existent)

Alignment: Neutral Good (Crono and his team are time traveling warriors who want to prevent a future where Lavos destroys everything, with their methods being noted as selfless due to them preventing a disaster from a time period they technically wouldn't even be apart of since it's far away from their time)

Dimensionality: 3-D

Attack Potency: City Block level (Comparable to early game Crono and co. who can fight and defeat Yakra who can cause massive earthquakes just from screaming and moving. can harm Fiendlords whose army laid waste to an entire village) | Multi-Continent level (Defeated Lavos whose awakening caused destruction to the entire planet, making a bleak future, which turned the sky black which relates to atmosphere destruction, which ranges from 10^26 joules to 10^29 joules depending on the type of atmosphere destruction), higher with Bronze Fist (With a critical hit Ayla can deal 9999 damage killing any non-boss in one hit). Low Complex Hierarchal Multiverse level+ (The Chrono Trigger has a condensed universe within it which transcends space-time) | At least Universe level (Fought Dream Devourer Lavos and was capable of harming it. Dream Devourer Lavos was capable of devouring dreams from an alternate dimension. Dreams are alternate universes in Chrono), likely Low Complex Hierarchal Multiverse level+ (Schala stated that all of existence would be ended, the cosmology of Chrono is this huge), higher with Bronze Fist

Durability: City Block level | Multi-Continent level| At least Universe level (Could withstand an attack that devours alternate universes)

Striking Strength: City Block Class | Multi-Continent Class| At least Universe Class

Lifting Strength: Unknown

Can tag Queen Zeal who exists in the black omen which flows across all temporal dimensions and transcends space-time, existing outside of the flow of time itself. Along with the black omen being stated to “straddle time”) | Extra-Temporal (Could tag Dream Devourer Lavos, who exists in a plane beyond the borders of time)

Reaction Speed: Peak Human | Extra-Temporal | Extra-Temporal

Stamina: Superhuman (Was able to keep fighting through continuous battle sequences without tiring. Even at 1 HP they can still attack at full strength), Higher with various equipment (Various equipment increase stamina)

Range: Standard Melee, Hundreds of Meters with Summoning (Can summon a large dinosaur to wag it’s tail on all enemies), High Multiversal+ with Epoch (Can travel across alternate timelines which there are infinite of), Low Complex Hierarchal Multiversal+ with the Chrono Trigger

Intelligence: Genius (Despite her mannerisms, Ayla is incredible intelligent in her own right, a skilled battler capable of taking on the repities who are advanced species with advanced technology, she is also the leader of her own village where she has led them all to safety for years)

Powers and Abilities

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Martial Arts (Is a skilled hand to hand fighter who gets new abilities the more she attacks), Non-Physical Interaction (Can harm spectors & shadows, who can’t be harmed by guns or blades), Immortality Negation (Type 7; Can kill skeletons), Summoning (Can call upon friends from different time periods to come to their time period. With Dino Tail, summons a large dinosaur that swings it’s tail around the battlefield), Time Paradox Immunity (Alternate Timeline; Magus can meet an alternate timeline version of himself, with other characters most likely being able to do the same. Grandfather Paradox; Remembered Marle even after she was erased from time due to her ancestor being killed resulting in her never existing. Was aware that the Black Omen was not always there, unlike everyone else who assumed the Black Omen always existed there. Unaffected by Lavos' temporal shifts. Fermi Paradox; Changing a future in the Chrono Verse causes said future to be erased from existence though characters like Robo still exist even after defeating Lavos and causing the erasure of the future timeline from ever happening. Casual Loop; Is unbound by the causality loop of fate that attempts to force a cycle to continue), Acausality Negation (Causality Immunity; Can fight and harm the denizens of the black omen, which transcends time and space and exists outside of it’s flow making it exist simultaneously in all time periods at once, Gaspar, the Guru of time describes the black omen as "straddling time"), Subjective Reality & Observation (Type 2; In the world of Chrono Cross the world is stabilized by the observations of the one who views it with each world having it's own observer, along with this in one's dream exists truth, the observation of many made supercomputer's such as FATE once they sealed away the dragon gods become literal gods of fate in the world), Dreaming Existence (Everyone in existence is born from a dream and returns to dreams, with them borrowing the power of Lavos to materialize those dreams[1], dreams are a the manifestation of reality itself and every single thing is dreaing the dream of "life" itself and those things are just a dream of the dream of the planet where all things return to Zuran, the sea of dreams), Accelerated Development (Leveling; Physical Stats and Abilities. Ayla gets stronger as she wins battle with her fist gaining new abilities such as inflicting confusion when hitting an enemy or being able to deal 9999 damage always on a critical hit), Healing (With Kiss, restore a small amount of HP to herself and an ally), Social Influencing or Empathic Manipulation (With Charm, Ayla uses her allure to get an opponent to give her an item), Air Manipulation (With Tail Spin, Ayla spins extremely fast causing a small tornado), Mind Manipulation, Chaos Manipulation & Status Effect Inducement (With the Iron Fist, her punches can randomly inflict confusion), Damage Boost (With Bronze Fist, her punches deal 9999 damage on a critical hit), Resistance to Temporal BFR (If Crono is sent through time he is sent to the End of Time where he can access points in time to return due to possessing a gate key), Fire Manipulation (Mysteriously has a natural resistance to fire)

All previous powers and abilities to a far greater extent, Acausality (Irregular Causality; The death of FATE made no one no longer bound by fate), Resistance to Conceptual Manipulation, Memory Manipulation, Morality Manipulation, & Dream Manipulation (Can tank Dream Devourer Lavos devouring dreams from an alternate dimension with him being stated to feast upon thoughts, dreams, and memories, it is stated by Schala that dreams make up all of existence, with nightmares being beings that make up no form or substance, being completely incapable of being interacted with, even by characters that can interact with incorporeal/nonexistent enemies. Queen Zeal even notes all forms are an extension and are made up of dreams. Schala states Lavos will consume the whole of her awareness, to where she wishes for the destruction of all of existence), Fate Manipulation (After Serge killed FATE, Kid makes mention that destiny and fate itself is dead, with all characters having to make their own destiny), Reality Warping, Time Manipulation, Nothingness Manipulation (Can move, fight, and act within the Darkness Beyond Time, where there is no beginning or end, a place where all timelines, existent or non-existent go to feed Lavos’ strength. Can move in the Bend of Time), Black Hole Creation (Survives being around Black Holes), Soul Manipulation (Like others in verse, can dodge her soul being taken out of her when the enemy uses hell soul)

In the game, dactyls function like the Wings of Time (obtained much later) by allowing Crono to fly around the world and traverse oceans, mountains, and other barriers they could not cross on foot.
    • Epoch: The Epoch can access any of the key time eras in Chrono Trigger. The party initially seeks it after being sealed out of the Antiquity time period by Schala, following the advice of Gaspar. It does not rely on pre-existing Gates to operate. Once aboard the Epoch, Crono can access the Time Gauge. This gauge dominates the console of the Epoch and allows the pilot to select a destination time period Era. The Epoch is theoretically able to travel anywhere in time Era, the areas of note that the party usually travel to with it are Prehistory (65,000,000 BC), the Antiquity (12,000 BC), the Middle Ages (600 AD), the Present (1000 AD), the Apocalypse (1999 AD), the Future (2300 AD), and even the End of Time. At first, it operates the same way that the Gates do, depositing the travelers at the same physical location in different eras in time. This limits its use as a spatial transport. As shown in a cutscene, the Epoch possesses engines that cause it to hover in mid-air. The ship creates a time distortion directly in front of it, and the massive rockets at the rear of the ship propel it into the distortion. This has the effect of propelling the ship and its passengers forward, although they do not move in space at all. When the Epoch arrives at its destination in time, the lift engines shut down, lowering the Epoch to the ground in the same physical location. At a certain point in their adventure, the party loses the Epoch to Dalton. He modifies the ship with technology aboard the Blackbird, giving it the ability to fly. After he is defeated, the party regains use of the now flight-enabled Epoch. Using it, the time travelers can access any era or location in any point in time, which is necessary for certain side quests as well as reaching the Black Omen at any point in history.

    Other

Standard Tactics: Ayla’s style of fighting is mixed with scratching and her techs, with equipment she uses to defend from various physical attacks and magical spells. Ayla is naturally better at fighting with a team so she normally will summon her friends across time to help her in combat and do various team attacks. If the enemy proves very powerful she might use the Epoch to ram it.

Weaknesses: Does not have any magic due to existing before magic was created.

Note: The 50% of damage absorption does not mean they absorb 50% of the damage and take the other 50% of damage, it means that they convert 50% of the damage into health, while the other 50% is neglected.

Note 2: Ayla’s “fist” are not extra items but just her regular fist upgraded as she gains more levels thus it is not added as a part of equipment but naturally how her power grows.
