Versions | Mother Brain - MB - Phantoon |
Background
Phantoon is a spectral entity that is intangible and the malevolent consciousness of Mother Brain while also being from a higher dimension. Ranging in size from four meters tall to ten times as large as Samus' ship, Phantoon resembles a giant cephalopod with a single eye inside a large mouthlike eyelid.
It feeds off raw energy without directly interfacing with wires or equipment, such as the Wrecked Ship and BOTTLE SHIP. Based on its portrayal among the bosses in the Golden Statues, Phantoon appears to be allied with the Space Pirates in some capacity.

Phantoon's origin has received alterations from several sources over the years. The English and Japanese manuals for Super Metroid both gave a different background of Phantoon, describing it as either being the ghost of the Wrecked Ship itself that taps into Mother Brain's thought-waves or as being the physical manifestation of Mother Brain's malevolent consciousness, respectively. Another version of Phantoon's background is given in its concept art for Other M, which describes it as an entity who was hidden within a vessel used by the Chozo long ago - it apparently traveled with the ancient race through space for an unknown amount of time until they reached planet Zebes, where the vessel would eventually become the Wrecked Ship. The same concept art further describes Phantoon as a multidimensional creature whose entire body cannot exist in a single dimension, thus giving it its ghost-like characteristics. This signifies that the body that Samus sees as Phantoon in both games is but a portion of its overall structure, in which its full size, mass and appearance remain unknown. Interesting to note is Super Metroid's manual describing the Wrecked Ship as having crashed on Zebes. Given Phantoon's malevolent nature and its tendency to absorb the energy of starships, it may very well have been responsible for the Chozo ship's arrival on the planet. |

Equipment
Nothing notable.
Notable Techniques
- Phantom Eyes: Phantoon's main method of attack, he creates a circle of blue flames around him to attack everything within a room, in Other M, these attacks have been shown to home on to enemies and have intangible properties to them.
- Hands from Higher Dimensions: Phantoon’s other form of attack, he opens up a portal to a higher dimension where hands come out to attack.
Other
Standard Tactics:
Phantoon will move around the room constantly creating phantom eyes that spread out and attack all enemies within a room distance and further, along with this his passive existence drains all technology and energy.
Along with his tactics in Super Metroid, due to Phantoon’s huge size he will now swing his large tentacles across to try and attack the opponent, he will also open up a portal from a higher dimension to bring in hands to attack the opponent, along with his phantom eye now having homing properties.
Weaknesses: His eye is his main weakspot.
