Albus Dumbledore is a half-blood wizard, considered by many to be the most powerful wizard of all time. Born to Percival and Kendra Dumbledore, Albus was raised alongside his brother Aberforth and sister Ariana. His early life was struck with tragedy when her sister Ariana was attacked by a group of Muggle boys who saw her performing magic. She was left emotionally scarred by the attack, and her father attacked the boys in revenge. For this, Percival Dumbledore was sent to Azkaban, where he later died.
Early into his life, Albus befriended Gellert Grindelwald, who he developed a deep friendship with and began to love. The two young wizards shaped each other's ideas and beliefs. The two were entranced by the legends of the Deathly Hallows, yearning to become Masters of Death and to overturn the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy and usher in a new age where wizardkind would rule over Muggles.
However, this became serious. When Aberforth became aware of this and confronted the two, a vicious three-way battle emerged, where it ended with Ariana dead on the floor. Grindelwald fled, and the two Dumbledore boys dwelled in regret and pain. Albus returned to Hogwarts to teach, eventually becoming a respected Defence Against the Darks Arts - later Transfiguration - teacher, while Grindelwald was buidling his army and revolution abroad. Across Europe, the first Wizarding War, known at the time as the Great Wizarding War, had begun.
As the war continued to build, Dumbledore delayed fighting Grindelwald until there wasn't any other choice, terrified that Grindelwald knew who it was that actually killed Ariana, as well as his intense love for Grindelwald. In 1945, at the peak of the global war, Dumbledore faced Grindelwald and initiated a battle that would go down in history as one of the greatest duels to have ever witnessed. Eventually, Grindelwald was defeated and Dumbledore took the first Deathly Hallow, the Elder Wand, for himself.
By the 1960s, Dumbledore became the Headmaster at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he was highly respected by his peers, students and parents. When the dark wizard Lord Voldemort started his first rise to power, Dumbledore created and lead the Order of the Phoenix, a secret organisation of witches and wizards ready and willing to fight Voldemort and his Death Eaters. He was a vital part in leading the forces of good in the First Wizarding War.
The war ended on Halloween night, during 1981, when Voldemort was defeated for the first time by Harry Potter. Knowing that Voldemort wasn't vaniquished for good, Dumbledore ensured Harry was raised at his aunt and uncle's household, making sure that Harry would keep his mother's protection until he came of age. Unbeknownst to most, Dumbledore secretly planned to allow Voldemort to kill Harry in the end, which would destroy the piece of Voldemort's soul in Harry and help ensure he could be vanquished for good.
Throughout Harry's years at Hogwarts, Dumbledore acted as a mentor and father figure to the boy, helping him through difficult problems and assisting him on his mission to destroy Voldemort's Horcruxes. Unfortunately, at the age of 115, Dumbledore was killed by Severus Snape. His death was planned in advance with Snape, as Albus was being slowly killed over the course of the year by a cursed ring. He continued to assist Harry post-mortem, including telling Harry everything he had not while both were in Limbo.
Dumbledore's legacy was carried through Harry to his second son, who he named Albus Severus Potter, in honour of Dumbledore and Snape, those who protected him all his life.
