Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Weapon Mastery, Natural Weaponry (Has a plasma cannon fire arm always available), Inorganic Physiology (Mega Man is a robot), Aquatic Breathing (Can breathe underwater indefinetely) Energy Projection & Plasma Manipulation (With his plasma cannon, shoots out energy pellets), Adaptation & Power Absorption (When defeating a Robot Master, Mega Man's plasma cannon adapts the new weapon system into it so he can use their abilities), Data Manipulation (Can install weapon datas into his arm for a new weapon), Statistics Reduction (Attacks lowers one's "power level" making their attacks weaker, with it even being noted that one needs their power higher then the other to win).

Resistance to Extreme Pressures (Can swim in the bottom of the ocean and endure its pressures just fine), Fires (Can tank falling into fire), Mind Manipulation (Was unaffected by the effect that turned all of the peaceful robots into "humanity-hating berserk droids" across the world)
Weapon Mastery (With Shark Boomerang, a special wepaon that fires a three-bladed boomerang a set distance then returns to Mega Man. With Blade Launcher, fires three razor-edgd cutting blades upward in a spreading pattern), Sound Manipulation & Reflection Manipulation (With Sonic Wave, shoots smal fast moving sound waves that bounce off walls), Invulnerability (Physical Invulnerability) & Forcefield Creation (With Force Field, creates a circular magnetic field around Mega Man, protecting him from enemy projectiles and has an invulnerable electric aura), Explosion Manipulation & Radiation Manipulation (With Nuclear Detonator, fires a time bomb that sets off a massive explosion after two seconds), Electricity Manipulation (With the Bit Cannon, fires an electric bolt from Mega Man's plasma cannon), Water Manipulation (With Water Shooter, fires three water balls foward that arc downward at different angles. Oil Stream, fires out a long-ranged oil projectile), Fire Manipulation (With Torch Arm, fires a fireball that travels a straight distance)

Equipment

  • Plasma Cannon: An all purpose cannon for Mega Man, and his main weapon. Shoots out energy pellets, along with adapting new weapon systems to it to give Mega Man extra abilities and firepower.

Notable Techniques

  • Sonic Wave: Sonic Wave is the weapon Mega Man obtains after defeating Sonic Man in the DOS Mega Man game. It shoots small, fast moving sound waves that bounce off walls much like Gemini Laser. It can open a wall in Volt Man's stage.
  • Force Field: Force Field is the weapon Mega Man obtains after defeating Volt Man. It creates a circular magnetic field around Mega Man, protecting him from enemy projectiles as well as draining weapon energy whilst he has it up. He can also deactivate the barrier when the fire button is pressed again. The barrier turns off when it makes contact with something that is not killed in a single hit. It acts as Dyna Man's weakness, because it can short out the fuses on his bombs.
  • Nuclear Detonator: Nuclear Detonator is the weapon Mega Man obtains after defeating Dyna Man. It places a time bomb, similar in function to Bomb Man's Hyper Bomb, in the fact that it typically drops down in a slight arc, and explodes after a set time of about two seconds if it does not hit an enemy before doing so. This weapon can also be detonated early by pressing the fire button again, as long as it has landed on the ground at least once. It is Sonic Man's weakness and can kill him in 2 hits (one shot) but is very difficult to hit him with because it bounces more under water. This weapon is helpful against blocks, as it can destroy them with the power of its explosion. When Dyna Man himself uses them, he'll jump around the arena in a set pattern, dropping the bombs on Mega Man below.
  • Bit Cannon: Bit Cannon is a Special Weapon that Mega Man obtains by defeating Bit Man in Mega Man 3 for DOS. It fires a very slow moving electric bolt.
  • Shark Boomerang: Shark Boomerang is a special weapon that Mega Man obtains by defeating Shark Man in Mega Man 3 for the PC. It fires a three-bladed boomerang, presumably sharpened around the edges, straight forward; after a set distance, it returns to the location it was fired from.
  • Water Shooter: Water Shooter is a Special Weapon Mega Man obtains by defeating Wave Man in Mega Man 3 for the PC. It fires three water balls forward that arc downward at different angles. This weapon is Torch Man's weakness and can kill him in only a few hits (two shots if all three hit in a single shot).
  • Oil Stream: Oil Stream is a Special Weapon Mega Man obtains by defeating Oil Man in the DOS Mega Man 3. It acts as a long-ranged projectile weapon.
  • Blade Launcher: Blade Launcher is a Special Weapon that Mega Man obtains by defeating Blade Man in Mega Man 3 for DOS. It fires three razor-edged cutting blades upward in a spreading pattern, similar to the Triple Blade used by Blade Man from Mega Man 10.
  • Torch Arm: Torch Arm is a Special Weapon that Mega Man obtains by defeating Torch Man in Mega Man 3 for the PC. It releases a fire ball that travels until it hits something.

Other

Standard Tactics: Mega Man will fire attacks from his plasma cannon, adapt weapon systems onto it and use the weapon best suited for the situation.

Weaknesses: Nothing notable.

Trivia

  • While the dog enemy in the intro stage can be destroyed, it will immediately respawn and is not easily outrun. The best option is to run away from it, jumping away from it when it pounces, until one reaches the door.
  • Unlike other games, Mega Man only features three Robot Masters, unless one counts Buster Rod G, Mega Water S, and Hyper Storm H from Mega Man: The Wily Wars's Wily Tower mode.
  • This is the first Mega Man game to include an intro stage.
  • The game features no music, and uses inferior sounds compared to their NES counterparts, due to relying entirely on the PC speaker, though the graphics are, from a technical standpoint, superior to the NES version in EGA or VGA mode.
  • Although featured on the box art, Rush does not make an appearance in the game.
  • The box art for this game is very similar to that of Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge; the only difference is that this one has a picture of Rush on it.
    • The box art for this game is an edited version of Mega Man 3's box art, where the background is different, placement of Rush is to the left of Mega Man (as opposed to directly behind Mega Man) and Spark Man, Top Man, and the Wily Castle are not present.
    • Although a picture of Spark Man appears on the back of the box, he is not included in the game.
  • When Mega Man uses a Robot Master's weapon, he does not change color.
  • As with many other Mega Man games from when the series first began, Dr. Wily's name is misspelled.
  • This was the first Mega Man game to use platforms which could be jumped through (one can jump up through the floors as well as down by holding down and jumping), a feature that was heavily used in the Zero and ZX games.
  • The brick wall, wooden box and nuke graphics were also later used in Duke Nukem.
  • The game is, from a technical standpoint, impressive in that it has much better scrolling than contemporary PC games. It is also very well optimized, as it can run at high framerates even on a 286 with VGA graphics. Unfortunately it doesn't have a properly locked speed, so the game runs too fast on later CPUs. A patch exists to remedy this problem.
  • This is the first of two Mega Man games to feature swimming for underwater segments in Blade Man's, Wave Man's, and Shark Man's stages, the second being Mega Man 8 for use in the underground section of the Opening Stage and Aqua Man's stage.
  • This was the first Mega Man game in which Mega Man could not shoot through walls, a feature not seen again until Mega Man X5.
  • Even though it shows Mega Man changing color when he first obtains a weapon, Mega Man does not change color in-game when he equips a weapon.
  • Since the game’s release, five of the six Robot Masters now have main series counterparts that have appeared:
  • There are files in the game that name each stage.  They are as follows: City (Blade Man), Tanker (Wave Man), Ocean (Shark Man), Rig (Bit Man), Refinery (Oil Man), Sewer (Torch Man), and Castle (final stage).
  • All six of the Robot Master's portraits were directly ripped from various games and edited to represent such bosses:
Robot Master comparisons.
  • Blade Man: Metal Man - Circular saw is removed and color is changed to purple. Eyes are changed from red to black
  • Wave Man: Air Man - Fan is replaced by seven water guns.
  • Shark Man: Crash Man/Snake Man - Visor and helmet is replaced by a gray helmet decorated to look like a shark's head or a Snake Man with his Snake helmet redecorated like a shark.
  • Bit Man: Hard Man - Color is changed to bright yellow and a decorative piece is added to the head.
  • Oil Man: Flash Man - Color is changed to red and the helmet is altered a bit to cover the mouth.
  • Torch Man: Magnet Man - Magnet is removed. A darker shade of red is used. Eyes are changed from blue to black.
