~ Jonathan Joestar to Tarkus |
Background
Jonathan Joestar is an English nobleman born in the late 19th Century. As an infant, Jonathan was involved in a carriage crash that killed his mother, as he and his father were seemingly rescued by a shady man known as Dario Brando.
Jonathan was raised solely by his father, George Joestar, in the large Joestar Estate, and things were peaceful for twelve years. However, feeling as though he owed Dario Brando a favor, George decided to allow Dario’s son, Dio Brando, into his home, and treated him as his own son.
Unfortunately, Jonathan and Dio would get off on the wrong foot, as Dio decided to mess with his life as possible. Dio would not only kill Jonathan’s dog, but also taint Jonathan’s love, Erina Pendleton, with a kiss. Jonathan and Dio, although they attempted to get along for the next seven years, would always hold a deep-seeded rivalry for one another.
Once the two boys reached 20 years old, having reached their own career paths, Jonathan thought an understanding had come between them. However, unbeknownst to Jonathan, Dio was secretly planning on killing their father, George, so that he may inherit the Joestar Estate.
Although Jonathan found out about this plan, and made an acquaintance named Robert E.O Speedwagon to accompany him, it was far too late. Dio acquired an ancient relic known as the Stone Mask, smearing George’s blood over it and transforming him into a vampire. With his brother having lost his humanity, Jonathan briefly mourned his father before vowing to destroy Dio.
Jonathan and Dio’s legendary battle burnt down the entire Joestar Estate, though this fight would not be their last meeting. In order to fully take out Dio and his rising forces, Jonathan became the student of a man named William Zeppeli, and studied the teaching of an ability known as Hamon.
Although he lost friends along the way, including Zeppeli himself, Jonathan’s resolve stayed strong, until he could confront Dio in his castle. After a dangerous battle, Jonathan bisected Dio, burnt his body to ash, and sent his head crumbling to the ground.
With Dio presumably dead at last, Jonathan was finally able to settle down with his love, Erina Pendleton, and get married to her. The two would conceive a child together before heading out on a boat trip to America. Unfortunately, the decapitated head of Dio accompanied them on this trip, and he planned on stealing Jonathan’s body for himself.
Jonathan and Dio battled once final time, destroying the boat around them. Jonathan was able to get Erina to safety, before succumbing to his wounds and passing out, clutching Dio’s head in his arms. After Jonathan’s death, Dio would finally take his body for himself, and hide away in a coffin for the next hundred years.
Jonathan’s legacy lived on in his son, George Joestar II, and his grandson, Joseph Joestar. Meanwhile, Dio (now named DIO) continued to live on in Jonathan’s body, using it to torment the Joestar bloodline a hundred years later.
