Who made you God, little man? Not that gun. Not that uniform. Nothing. You wanna scare people, fine. I need a scarecrow. You're gonna be my personal message board. I want everyone to see what happens when they come here uninvited.
~ Spawn to a corrupt cop in "Souls in the Balance"
Alright game boy, this is what you're gonna do. Stay alive long enough to give your boss- what's his name? You're gonna tell Tony to keep his goons out of these alleys. As of now, they're out of bounds. You're gonna give him my message. Cause guess what? As far as I know, I'm already dead. Which means, I'm waiting for your sorry ass in the afterlife.
~ Spawn to a mafia member

Background

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Spawn’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Albert Simmons was a high-profile CIA operative. He received fame from taking a bullet for the president.

When he worked with Jason Wynn on a secret operative mission, he was murdered by his partner at the time Jess Chapel by orders of Wynn

Reborn in New York City
Returning from Hell by making a deal with Malebolgia, he finds himself dealing Hell's bidding of killing those who served the dark lord. Spawn followed his instinct and found himself killing Mafia members early upon his arrival to earth. This infuriated Mafia leader, Tony Twist. Twist called in his hitman to deal with him. In the meantime, Spawn found a mentor in Cogliostro as he learned to use his new found powers. He battled a mafia hitman Overkill putting Twist in a touch situation as he was on loan from Rome.

In his personal life, he experiences flashbacks of what his life used to be like. He watches his ex-wife, Wand Blake, fall in love with his best friend, Terry Fitzpatrick.

When Spawn overheard a police scanner report that Cyan Fitzgerald had been kidnapped, he responded and saved her from child-killer Billy Kincaid. As he walked Cyan back to the end of the alley for her to return to her mother, he handed Cyan his wedding ring. Cyan ran back to her mother, Wanda who was completely beside herself how she obtained Al's wedding ring. Cyan responded, "the sad man gave it to me.

Weaknesses: Noted that each battle with Spawn drains his strength[103]. Suffers from PTSD flashbacks and memory lost[104]. Spawn has a weakness to fire, the burning temporarily incapcitating him[105], though he seems to have overcome this in season 2[106]. Spawn despite having an immortal body, can die through being decapitated[107]. When he transforms, the human body he's in retains his weakness[108]. Attacks from other supernatural beings can inflict actual pain onto him and make it harder for his body to regenerate, needing to get insects to regenerate his wound[109].
