Videl is the daughter of Mr. Satan and Miguel, the wife of Son Gohan and the mother of Pan.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Videl’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Background Videl was born in Age 756. Videl grew up learning martial arts, hoping to be as great as her father, when, in fact, unknown to herself, she was already better and stronger than him. On May 7 of Age 767, when she was 11, Videl won in the Junior Division of the 24th World Martial Arts Tournament. Her mother left Mr. Satan and their daughter Videl at one point, leaving only the two of them in their family. But they have got loads of servants. Her father is very protective of her, especially in respect to boys, only allowing her to have a boyfriend if he was stronger than him, which Videl thought it was impossible. However, her mother died at the heart illness since she was still a baby and raised by her father in her whole life. Dragon Ball Z Videl, like the rest of the world, watched the fight between Cell and the Dragon Team. During the fight between Cell and Super Saiyan 2 Gohan, the ZTV camera equipment was destroyed, so she didn’t see the outcome like the rest of the world. After the battle, Videl, like the rest of the world, was told about her dad Mr. Satan defeating Cell. While she and the rest of the world believed her father's claims, in the back of her head, she suspected that he wasn't telling the truth, which wouldn’t be confirmed until 7 years later. This was the first time that she saw Gohan and the Dragon Team, but she wouldn't officially meet them in person until 7 years later. Majin Buu Saga In her spare time, Videl helps the police and fights crime in Satan City. She becomes suspicious of Gohan after meeting him on his first day at Orange Star High School, and she even follows him for a brief time to learn more about him. Videl eventually discovers Gohan's secret identity as the Great Saiyaman: in the manga, she very easily tricks Gohan into revealing his identity after stopping some thugs (she asks the Great Saiyaman how he left class, and he answers her, revealing that he is actually Gohan). In the anime, she discovers that Gohan is the Great Saiyaman after she and Gohan are involved in an attempt to return Chobi, a baby pteranodon, to its rightful parents. In both cases, she deduces that Gohan is the son of the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament winner, Goku, based on them carrying the same family name, and gets Gohan to participate in the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament and teach her how to fly using a blackmail-type of threat. In a matter of days, Videl learns how to fly, and starts to develop a liking for Gohan. She even cuts her hair one day after he had suggested it (though she initially thought he just liked girls with short hair, he explained that long hair will only get in the way during a fight). There is an awkward moment when Chi-Chi asks Gohan whether he is going to marry Videl, which embarrasses him. As she becomes a great flyer, Gohan begins to think that Videl is really something special. Despite the relentless teasing from friends (such as Krillin), Videl and Gohan develop a sweet kind of relationship. Videl becomes very strong for a human, and enters the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament. When Videl firsts meets Goku and the other Z Fighters, Gohan explains that his father is dead as he has a halo above his head. This is one of many supernatural things in the Dragon Ball universe that astonish more ordinary humans like Videl, but are second nature to the Z Fighters. After waiting with Gohan for the Punching Machine (destroyed by Vegeta) to be replaced, Videl and the other high-scoring fighters draw their numbers for the first round. Videl goes up against Spopovich. Videl quickly gains the upper hand, even breaking Spopovich's neck, though he repairs it, shocking Videl and everyone else watching the match. Soon, the tables turn against her as Spopovich keeps getting back up after her attacks, without any visible damage. Videl then attempted to fly to the skies to recover, but to her horror, Spopovich could also fly and even use Kiai to strike her back down. Videl starts to tire out, and Spopovich takes advantage by beating her to a pulp around the ring with a series of punches to the stomach and head. For his enjoyment, Spopovich steps on Videl's head. He pushes down on it until Videl is brought to tears (this fight was more drawn out and gruesome in the anime compared to the manga). Enraged by this display, Gohan loses control of his temper and transforms into a Super Saiyan. Seeing this, Yamu, Spopovich's partner, reminds his ally of their real reason for being there and tells him to end the match. Spopovich does so and kicks her out of the ring. Gohan carries her to the infirmary, where he returns later to heal her with a Senzu Bean brought by Goku. She thanks Gohan for it, though Mr. Satan freaks out, suspicious of the boy, insisting she be checked up for poisoning. She steps back to the arena to watch Gohan's match, and is surprised to see he is indeed the "Gold Fighter" she suspected him to be. When Gohan is in mortal danger from a ki drain from Yamu and Spopovich, she tries to save him, but is stopped only by being physically restrained by Goku. Upon Kibito healing and offering Gohan an explanation, Videl asks Gohan to let her go along, wanting to know what exactly is going on. She readily believes Gohan after he confesses he was both the mysterious Gold Fighter, Great Saiyaman and also the golden-haired 11-year-old boy at the Cell Games seven years ago. Having suspected that her father was not telling the truth, she comes to the correct conclusion that it was Gohan who beat Cell in the Cell Games. She initially wants to come and help with the fight against the Organization of Babidi, but is requested by Gohan to go back and tell everyone else the situation. She agrees to leave, then looks back and says "You better come back, cause I'm not finished with you yet, Gohan"(In Kai, she says that she'll miss him). She meets Goten and Trunks on her way to the World Tournament Arena, and accidentally fuels them with adrenaline by telling them the story of Majin Buu, prompting the two to head for the battlefield. Videl goes with the rest of the group to look for the Dragon Balls. She later takes refuge with the group on Kami's lookout, where she hears about Gohan's supposed death at the hands of Majin Buu. She breaks down crying and confesses her love for him. While everyone presumes Gohan dead, she's the only one who is convinced that he still lives, somehow sensing that fact this is actually true, Gohan is in the Sacred World of the Kai training hard with Kibito and Shin. A day later, Super Buu attacks The Lookout looking for the fighter Goku promised him. Piccolo manages to persuade him to wait by telling him that Videl is Mr. Satan's daughter, later explaining to Videl that Mr. Satan nearly succeeded in convincing Buu to change his ways, only for his work to be undone by two bandits who shot at him and Majin Buu. Ultimately, when Gotenks fails to stop Buu, she, along with everyone else at the lookout, is murdered when Super Buu uses his Rapid Fire Transfiguration Beam attack by turned into chocolate and eaten. After both she and Gohan come back to life and they meet again, Videl is happy at seeing 'the idiot' again saying that she has been worried sick about him. Videl is embarrassed by hearing her father getting the people of Earth to give energy so he could beat Buu. When Goku and the others return, she spots and happily greets her father Mr. Satan who happily embraces her and brings new guests the dog Bee and Good Buu who Videl is shocked to see until her father explains he is now on their side. Later, she becomes Gohan's partner in fighting crime as the Great Saiyaman II (alternately known as Saiyawoman or Saiyagirl), sporting a similar outfit and participating in the same poses she earlier found ridiculous. Afterwards, Mr. Satan decides to let Gohan date Videl, since Gohan is clearly stronger than him, and he owes him for taking the credit of defeating Cell. For a while, Videl fights criminals alongside Gohan as Saiyaman 2, or Saiyawoman. Videl becomes closer with Gohan's family over time, and they see each other so much it seems like they are family, despite the fact that Gohan and Videl have not married. A few years after the Buu incident, Videl and Gohan finally get married, having one daughter together and Mr. Satan helps build a house for them to live in.

Notable Techniques

• Flight: The ability to fly with the use of ki.
• Eagle Kick: First, Videl hits her opponent three times causing moderate damage. She then performs a knee strike, then a left-legged front kick, and finally a right-legged roundhouse kick that sends the opponent away, with an enormous amount of damage inflicted.
• Kick-Slap: First, Videl points her finger forward and says "That's what I'm talking about!" as she jumps up and roundhouse kicks the opponent. Then, she both side and roundhouse kicks the opponent before front kicking them away, inflicting a great deal of damage.
• Videl Rush: As she says "You're persistent!", Videl charges at the opponent and hook kicks them in the face. Then, she turns around and elbows the opponent before backing away and moving back in to deliver a powerful barrage of punches in their stomach. Finally, Videl elbows and uppercuts the opponent before shouting, "End of the line!" as she knees the opponent in the chin, inflicting a great deal of damage.
• First Strike: First, Videl says "How about..." and charges at the opponent shouting "...this!". Then, she delivers a roundhouse kick to the opponent's face inflicting a high amount of damage.
• Falcon Rush: A High Speed Rush used when she thought that the Great Saiyaman had kidnapped Chobi.
• Head Scissors Rush: As she says "No holding back this time!", Videl kicks the opponent, grabs the opponent's head with her legs, and throws them back. Next, she delivers an elbow hit to their back. Finally, Videl delivers a sweep kick, inflicting a high amount of damage.
• Desperado Rush: Videl rushes at the opponent and performs two kicks. Then she flips in the air and kicks the opponent hard in the face, inflicting a high amount of damage.

Weaknesses

• Standard Ki Weaknesses: Ki users that do not have sufficient training over their emotions put their power within a mental lock, thus affects to their emotions can seriously limit their powers, their emotions can also have them instinctively block using the full power of their attacks out of fear of the destruction along with lack of confidence in themselves. If a Ki user is inflicted with any kind of status, disease, or poison, powering up or transforming will put further strain on the body and can speed up the process of poison. Users of Ki Sensing cannot sense beings that invisible, even if the character is in front of them attacking them, they have a hard time countering them due to being invisible. Users of Ki Sensing also have a harder time sensing the true being using illusions, requiring them to focus in on energy fields to see who is moving and who is casting the illusion. Due to the nature of ki draining stamina and energy, Dragon Ball characters ki usage requires them to usually use their higher levels of energy in short bursts, using a large amount of ki overtime can greatly weaken them to the point that characters far lower then them can actually harm them with attacks. Taking large amounts of damage can greatly deplete a ki users attacks, making it where attacks that would otherwise kill massively weakened characters, only pushes them back. Ki users cannot put all of their ki and strength into an attack if parts of their body are broken/injured, they also lose half of their chi if something like one of their arms are badly injured or broken.Ki users that are able to ki sense cannot do it when their guard is dropped, such as when Vegeta was able to sneak attack Son Goku during the end of their fight in the Buu Saga. Despite some ki users being able to reach blasts that can destroy planets through charged attacks or techniques, they have not shown to be able to tank such blasts themselves, with attacks that have destroyed several planets in the series always killing the character. Even characters such as Majin Buu's body cannot withstand the energy of a planet exploding. Using ki volley attacks come with the caveat of their aim being rather poor, making it harder to hit moving targets. If ki users are at all possessed, even by accident, their true self will be sleeping within, with the possessor needing to awaken them. Even if awoken, they are immobilized and unable to move without the possessor giving them the ability to, even with them wanting to wake up, they cannot do it. Specific waves can can suppress a ki users power, and put their consciousness to sleep. If Ki users stamina is broken, they will unable to be able to continue fighting for a short while, this will also cancel out any ki attack they were attempting to use, including ultimate's, this also adds on that ki users guards are down while charging ultimate attacks. Their stamina can also be broken if a character moves far too fast and surprise attacks them while they're charging their ki. Ki Users can also be grabbed out of charging their attacks. When ki users radiate their Ki at its highest, their body is also freed the most, making them open to attacks and making them easy to possess.
• Unique Weaknesses: Videl has a limited knowledge of Ki Manipulation, thus she cannot easily release energy blasts or endure high-speed flights for a long amount of time.

Trivia

Videl's car in the eyecatch for the World Tournament Saga

• Her name is an anagram of "devil"; since her father's original Japanese name is Mr. Satan.
• Videl's car, seen in the introduction, has "666" written on the side of it, in further relation to the religious references.
• In the episode "Blackmail", both Gohan and Bulma referred to her as Videl Satan, however, in the Dragon Ball: Super Exciting Guide, Akira Toriyama states that "Mr. Satan" is actually a ringname for her father.
• During the World Martial Arts Tournament, when the spectators are shown cheering in episode 216, there is a sign nearby saying "Bidel" with a "B" . In later episodes, another sign is shown saying "Beedel".
  • In the 1990s edition of the Spanish manga, her name is written as "Biddle".
• Videl and her mother-in-law Chi-Chi have a couple of things in common with each other. Both are powerful martial artists (though not as strong as their Saiyan husbands or children) who have fought in the World Tournament, both were raised by their wealthy fathers, and their mothers never appear in the manga or anime series. Though they are different in the fact that Videl isn't loud and controlling of Gohan, like Chi-Chi is of Goku; since Gohan is smart and responsible, unlike his father.
• Videl has the distinction of being the first World Martial Arts Tournament Junior Division champion. This makes her the only known female Martial Arts Champion of any tournament (or division).
• Videl's hobby is being an ally of justice.
• Videl's favorite food is okonomi-yaki and caesar salad.
• Videl's favorite vehicle is air bike.
• Despite her and her father's names being based on Satanic traits, the two are actually quite heroic and love justice.
• Both Son Goten and Videl share the same voice actresses in the English dub by Funimation and the French dub.
• While her fate is unknown in Future Trunks' timeline (not counting Dragon Ball Super, in which she was erased by Future Zeno or killed by Goku Black, Future Zamasu, or Fused Zamasu), in Xenoverse 2 if the Future Warrior's mentor is Future Gohan, and they talk to Mr. Satan, he asks what is the deal with him and Future Videl in that timeline.
• There are slight differences to Videl's fight with Spopovich in the manga:
  • When he blasts her to the ground, instead of an energy wave, no beam appeared, appearing to have been Kiai instead.
  • Also, when Spopovich knees her to the face, some of Videl's teeth were knocked out (fortunately the Senzu Bean Gohan gives her after the match heals her, restoring the teeth she lost), whereas they stayed intact in the anime.
• Videl's new haircut and pale skin color are similar to Fasha.
• Videl is born in Age 756 (according to the manga) and Age 757 (according to Super Perfect Guide for the anime).
• Videl is one year older than Gohan in the manga, meaning that she was at least 18 years old in her debut and 28 at the end of the original story, but is the same age as him in the anime.

Moden in World Mission

• In World Mission, the Hero Stadium clerk Moden resembles Videl and has the same pigtail hairstyle as Videl before she cut her hair. Additionally, Moden secretly owns a Great Saiyaman Suit like the one worn by Great Saiyaman 3, which is similar to Videl who wears a variation of Gohan's Great Saiyaman Suit as Great Saiyaman 2. It is unknown if Moden is related to Videl (like Beat who is a descendant of Goku in World Mission) or just resembles her as several of Hero Town's inhabitants resemble Dragon Ball characters.
• In Dragon Ball FighterZ, if you select Videl on the Character Select screen while holding L1/LB/L or L2/LT/ZL, you will unlock an alternate costume with her pigtails (with Great Saiyaman getting his helmet), making Videl the only character in the game with an alternate costume.
• Videl's character design is purportedly based off of "Fasha" (Vasha/Seripa), a female Saiyan from the Bardock special movie. The child and preteen version of herself in the series during of the Cell Saga did appears in the manga and anime series. In the Dragon Ball Super Manga, Gohan tells Goku that he doesn't need to hold anything back and can go all out because anything that happens to the Earth can be restored with Dende and the Dragon Balls. Yet, none of Goku's all out attacks destroy the planet but just heavily causes shockwaves around it. Semi-Perfect Cell unleashes a several blast that destroys several islands Android 16 notes that the attacks are just strong enough to not kill Android 18.

In the fight of Trunks vs. Mecha Frieza, who is far stronger than his final form, Mecha Frieza immediately goes for his strongest attack, the Supernova. In the original Z anime King Kai even states this is ten times stronger than the power he used on Namek:
