Background
Acid Man is a Robot Master who appears in Mega Man 11. Originally a chemist robot manufactured by the Mecha-Chuchets Institute of Robology, he was reprogrammed into a stereotypical "mad scientist" after being stolen by Dr. Wily, and now uses his chemistry skills to do Wily's bidding. He was also given a Speed Gear to boost his combat abilities. His Special Weapon, Acid Barrier, generates a shield made of acid that not only protects him from all damage, but also lets him shoot globs of acid at enemies. This ability extends to Mega Man after he defeats Acid Man.

The fight with Acid Man begins in a chamber with a pool of acid underneath the floor. During the first stage of the fight, Acid Man will use his Acid Barrier, which absorbs normal and charged Mega Buster shots and releases short-ranged arced shots in random direction if attacked, and therefore must be worn down by repeatedly shooting before Mega Man can do damage to him. However, one hit from a Block Dropper attack is enough to fully destroy his barrier, which also prevents it from releasing arced shots. Everytime his Acid Barrier is worn down, Acid Man will be stunned momentarily, giving Mega Man a good opportunity to attack. While Acid Man is shielded with Acid Barrier, he will fire three shots in the air that arc towards the ground. Without the Acid Barrier, Acid Man will leap across the stage at Mega Man and pause to fire three acid shots from his arm that lightly track Mega Man's position. Wait for him to pause and fire and time jumps to avoid the shots. The second stage of the fight will trigger Acid Man to utilize his Speed Gear. Acid Man will plunge into the acid pool underneath the stage and quickly move left and right. His position is marked by a large wave of acid that must be avoided as he moves. Once passing underneath Mega Man, Acid Man will jump from the acid and fire a volley of acid shots downward. Acid Man can fire a charged Acid Barrier during the second stage that requires more Buster shots to remove. In the Superhero difficulty, Acid Man will fire four arcing shots instead of three, his Acid Barrier takes more hits to destroy, and he will fire much faster. The waves he creates when using his Speed Gear are much larger, and he fires more projectiles after leaping out of the acid pool. In addition, he can use his Speed Gear much earlier during the fight, regardless of his HP. |

- Speed Gear: Speed Gear is a blue gear that increases the speed of robots. Gameplay-wise, it slows down time when used by Mega Man, representing his increase in speed; using the Speed Gear allows tight platforming and enemy evasion easier but he moves at a slower pace. The Speed Gear's effect is similar to the Time Slow's effect in Mega Man Powered Up, with the difference being that Mega Man now creates blue afterimages when moving around while the Speed Gear is activated. If the Speed Gear Booster part is installed, Mega Man can move at normal speed while Speed Gear is active.
Notable Techniques
- Acid Barrier: Acid Barrier is Acid Man's Special Weapon in Mega Man 11. It generates a large ball of acid around Acid Man that protects from projectiles. As long as the acid shield is up, Acid Man can also shoot arcing globs of acid. However, the shield shrinks over time, eventually dissipating, and if Acid Man takes damage from something other than a projectile, the shield dissipates immediately rather than blocking it.

Standard Tactics: Acid Man will form a barrier of acid around himself and shoot out acid shots, utilizing the speed gear to quickly blitz his opponent.

- Acid Man can be seen traversing the chemical stream at several points in the background as Mega Man travels through his stage. Unlike Impact Man, however, he does not attack Mega Man at these points.
- His manufacturer, Mecha-Chuchets Institute of Robology (マチャチューチェッチュ工科大学, "Machachuchetch Institute of Technology" in Japan), is a reference to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
- Acid Man's weakness to Block Dropper might be a reference to acid bricks, a type of brick that is highly resistant to chemicals. It might also reference to how earth minerals can absorb acid more effectively than other materials.
