Background

Son Goku is the main protagonist of Dragon Ball. Born on Planet Vegeta, he is sent to Earth for protection from the impending destruction of his home planet. After being found by an old martial artist named Son Gohan, he is trained in martial arts himself. Throughout the years, he has defended the Earth and his universe from countless threats.

Following the destruction of Majin Buu, peace and prosperity remained on Planet Earth for fifteen long years. In that time, Goku has taken up the reincarnation of Majin Buu, Uub, as his protégé, with the two training vigorously. In that time, however, the Pilaf Gang gathered up a set of Dragon Balls, and used it to wish for Goku to be reverted into his childlike body, from the beginning of the series.

These Dragon Balls turned out to be the Black Star Dragon Balls, however, and dispersed across the universe, warning that the Earth would be destroyed if they were not collected. The now-physically 12 year old Goku, alongside Trunks, and his granddaughter Pan, travelled through space to find them.

This sparked a large journey that would last over a year, involving several dangerous battles against two characters that seeked revenge on Goku for one reason or another; Baby and Dr. Myuu of the Tuffle race, who sought revenge on the Saiyans, and Super 17 alongside Dr. Gero who sought revenge as part of the Red Ribbon Army.

All of these battles culminated in the original Earth Dragon Balls cracking after overuse, and releasing a massive buildup of Minus Energy. This Minus Energy took the form of powerful Shadow Dragons, the leader of whom, Omega Shenron, threatened the entire universe. After a hard-fought battle, Goku defeated the Shadow Dragon. The Saiyan absorbed the Dragon Balls into himself, said goodbye to his family, and rode off on Shenron’s back.

Nearly a century later, Goku finally reappeared on Earth, and presented it with the Dragon Balls once again, now free of their Minus Energy and dispersed across the planet. After meeting his descendant, Goku Jr., Goku proudly vanished from his homeworld once more.

Goku is an incredibly skilled fighter to the point that he is able to easily outskill trained Martial Artists such as Krillin and Yamcha and match prodigies such as Tien and even nearly beat his Master, Roshi, after training with him for a few months)

Weaknesses: His durability drops when off guard. Grabbing Goku’s tail completely disorients him, even at this point in the series.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

• Flight: With a mastery of Ki control, Goku is able to fly at incredibly high speeds.
• Ki Blast: Using Ki, Goku can concentrate it into a ball that he uses as a projectile attack.
• Ki Sense: Goku is able to detect lifeforms and power levels from far off.
• Kamehameha: The iconic move coined by Master Roshi, which Goku has adopted for himself. This starts as a blue Ki ball, which is charged in Goku’s hands before releasing as an incredibly powerful beam.
  • Super Kamehameha: This is an amplified version of the Kamehameha which has a larger and more devastating beam, which Goku uses by first bolstering his Ki.
  • x10 Kamehameha: A much more powerful version of the Kamehameha, used in his Super Saiyan 4 state. Unlike the regular Kamehameha, the beam of this attack is red, and it attacks with devastating power.
• Dragon Fist: Goku powers all of his Ki into one powerful punch, which unleashes the apparition of a golden dragon beside him as he attacks. This move is bolstered to be so powerful, that it can even destroy foes that Goku himself is weaker than.
• Spirit Bomb: A move taught to Goku by King Kai in the afterlife. With this move, Goku gathers Ki energy from all life forms who are willing to lend it to him, forming into a gigantic blue ball of purifying energy. He then throws it, eradicating all evil in its path. Those with a pure heart can resist the attack and deflect it completely.
  • Universal Spirit Bomb: The greatest version of the Spirit Bomb, which has Goku gather the energy from life all around the universe. This attack was used to fully eradicate Omega Shenron, and all of the Minus Energy that had been released from the Dragon Balls.
