Background

Cyrus is a man who serves as the both the evil leader of Team Galactic, and the main antagonist of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. Extremely nihilistic and spiteful towards the world, Cyrus has spent his life studying ways to change it. At the epicenter of his research were the Pokémon deities, Dialga and Palkia, which would point him in the direction of creating a new world.

The accomplish his goal, Cyrus and his cronies in Team Galactic, travelled across the Sinnoh Region in search of the legendary Lake Guardian Pokémon: Uxie, Azelf, and Mesprit. Although he was constantly hit by roadblocks in the form of Lucas, Dawn, and Barry, Cyrus was successful in acquiring the Lake Guardians, and enslaved them.

Using the Lake Guardians, Cyrus was able to create an extremely powerful relic known as the Red Chain. With the Red Chain, Cyrus would be able to make either Palkia or Dialga serve under him as if they were his Pokémon, without limiting their power as a Poké Ball would do. Although his goals were almost completed atop the Spear Pillar, and his life as the god of a new world was about to begin, he was eventually thwarted once and for all.

As shown in Pokémon Platinum, after Cyrus was drawn into the Distortion World due to Giratina's intervention of his plans, he grew extremely interested in it. As a result, Cyrus chose to stay within the Distortion World, although he still vowed to create his new world someday. Eventually, Cyrus turns up in the events of Pokémon Masters EX alongside his newly-acquired Palkia, although it is unknown how he obtained it.
