Background

Starfy is the main protagonist of The Legendary Starfy series. He is the prince of the Pufftop Kingdom, along with his best friend, Moe the clam, and his younger sister, Starly. They all live in the Pufftop Palace but Moe also has a house of his own.

Only Starfy can perform the Air Jump, the Powerful Spin (which involves spinning with Moe, though it can be used when Moe isn't present, suggesting that the ability doesn't necessarily involve the real Moe), the Mighty Star Spin and the Ultra Star Spin.

According to the lyrics of all versions of the series Title Song except for Perfume's, he is 36 cm tall and 7 years old. He is voiced by Satomi Kōrogi in Japanese commercials and The Legendary Starfy. His hobbies include collecting sunglasses and making pretend transformations.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Starfy’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Densetsu no Starfy Starfy goes on his first adventure during the events of Densetsu no Starfy. Starfy was moving things around his home, until he dropped a jar that sealed Ogura, which fell into the ocean. After the jar fell, thunderstorms and tornadoes blew Starfy into the ocean. Many new friends, such as Moe and Old Man Lobber, helped Starfy to get back to Pufftop Kingdom and told him about Ogura, and Starfy and his friends fought and sealed Ogura back into the jar.

Densetsu no Starfy 2 Starfy starts out on yet his second adventure, as he falls from Pufftop once again, along with his best friend, Moe. Also, his mom, Mama Star gets kidnapped by Ogura.

Densetsu no Starfy 3 Yet again, Starfy falls to a exciting adventure, this time along with Moe and his sister, Starly, who Moe calls a "pink powder keg".

Densetsu no Starfy 4 The Amiy Kingdom is in trouble and Starfy and friends have to help the citizens of Amiy Kingdom.

The Legendary Starfy Starfy meets and helps a mysterious bunny rabbit-like creature during the events of The Legendary Starfy. One day, Starfy was having a peaceful nap, then a strange bunny rabbit crashed through the roof and landed on Starfy. Starfy stared and tried to make the unexpected visitor talk, until three shadowy goons crashed through the walls and tried to kidnap the bunny. Starfy became angry and used his Star Spin move on the goons, which made them run away. Moe entered Starfy's room and told him that the strange bunny figure jumped into the ocean, so Starfy and Moe went after him.

Once Starfy and Moe entered the ocean, they found the bunny, who was called Bunston. He had amnesia and the only way to gain his memory back was by finding shards. Starfy, Moe, and Bunston (sometimes Starly too) had to travel to Gluglug Lagoon and many other places to find every shards. Along the way, the shadowy goons, which was revealed to be a team of Snips, Ronk, and Papes, tried to kidnap Bunston and stop Starfy and Moe from getting all of the shards.

Bunston's memory returned and remembered that he was a prince and his planet Bunnera was in danger by the evil Mashtooth, so he used the shards to fix his rocket ship and he, Starfy, and Moe traveled to Bunnera. When Starfy, Bunston, and Moe entered the Bunnera Castle, Starfy dueled with Mashtooth and won, until Mashtooth absorbed Bunston's power and transformed into Mega Mashtooth. Starfy and Moe got beaten up by Mega Mashtooth until the Terrible Trio came and helped Starfy. Many of Starfy's friends cheered Starfy on, which gave him the strength to face Mega Mashtooth. Starfy pushed the Bunnera moon at Mega Mashtooth, which defeated him, gave the Bunnerans their powers back, and made Bunnera back in peace.

Equipment

Nothing notable.

Optional Equipment

Balloon, Mole Tank, Catfish Boat, Magic Set

Notable Techniques

  • Air Jump: The Air Jump is a move that lets Starfy jump again in thin air.
  • Powerful Spin: The Powerful Spin is an ability in Densetsu no Starfy 4. Starfy can perform a powerful spin with Moe that can be used to defeat enemies. Starfy and Moe move so fast that they get dizzy quickly.
  • Normal Star Spin: The starting Star Spin. In Densetsu no Starfy, this ability is first taught to Starfy by Herman in Lobber's Cave. This Star Spin can break blocks without being bumped, but Starfy/Starly move slower while using it. It is used on land even after Starfy upgrades to Mighty Star Spin and Ultra Star Spin. Starfy can also still use it in water if he spins without moving.
  • Mighty Star Spin: The Mighty Star Spin allows Starfy to do a more powerful spin, completely breaking through blocks and going against currents, along with moving so fast Starfy creates afterimages.
  • Ultra Star Spin: Starfy moves fast and doesn't get bumped by breaking blocks while using it. He also moves faster then he did with the Mighty Star Spin.
  • Dash&Jump: A technique Starfy uses to leap farther and higher then he could with a regular jump.
  • Done For: Done For is an official term for when Starfy loses all hearts or health points in games in The Legendary Starfy series. When this happens, Starfy's eyes are replaced with crosses and they disappear after falling through the bottom of the screen. This brings up the Game Over screen. In the Densetsu no Starfy official guidebook, it is listed on page 168 as an ability.
  • Glide: Due to Starfy's incredibly light body he is able to slowly descend to the ground after jumping, allowing him to glide and reach places he couldn't previously.

*Monamu Heal: Starfy summons a nurse who will release a fluid that will gradually restore some of Starfy's health.

  • Magical Coin: Makes a large spinning coin appear above Starfy's head, which will eventually stop spinning. The coin has a chance of either stopping on one side marked with an illustration of a star, or another side marked with an illustration of poop. If the coin lands on the 'star', all enemies nearby will turn into big Pearls, and the Pearls will fly towards Starfy, however if the coin lands on the 'poop', all enemies nearby will turn into enemies representing the poop
  • Powerful Spin: Starfy can perform a powerful spin with Moe that can be used to defeat enemies. Starfy and Moe move so fast that they get dizzy quickly.

*Balloon: Balloon is a vehicle in Densetsu no Starfy and Densetsu no Starfy 2. It looks like a hot air balloon. When using it, Starfy holds on to the rope. The upgraded version equips a jetpack to the balloon.

  • Catfish Boat: The catfish will move on it's own, but moving the control pad left or right will make it go faster or slower. Press the A button to jump over enemies and holes.
  • Kigurumi: When using it, Starfy wears an animal costume. Including a blue teddy bear that scares enemies, a green koala, the upgraded version gives a red crocidile, a grayish sheep for increasing speed while running, and a black pig & octopus that shoots food at enemies.
  • Magic Set: The broom will move on its own, but moving the control pad left or right will make the player go slower or faster. It is also possible to move up and down. Starfy can press the A button to turn invisible for a short time. While invisible Starfy can pass enemies and spikes without getting hurt. Starfy can press the B button to shoot a star. If the B button is held down for a few seconds, then released Starfy will shoot a triangle which chases enemies and even their attacks.
  • Mole Tank: Mole Tank is an ability in Densetsu no Starfy. As its name implies, it is a tank that looks like a mole. It lets Starfy dig underground.

*Monstar: Starfy morphs with Bunston to become Monstar allowing him to breathe fire.

  • Starpedo: Starfy morphs to resemble a seal with a tail fin made of ice. With this he can create a large icicle in front of him that can shatter Deep Ice. This ability is known as Icy Spike.
  • Roostar: Starfy can use it to jump and make loud Bugawks to attack almost all enemies on the screen. A Bugawk can be used to temporarily stun Lurchins and make them withdraw their spikes back into their body, so that Starfy can jump on to them without getting hurt. It can also be used to stun Stanglers, so that they withdraw back into their clams and stop releasing electricity. The upgraded Bugawk ability causes the eggs following Starfy to hatch and Starfy is able to use the Roostar transformation to flutter in the air for a short period of time.
  • Starfright: When Starfy transforms into Starfright, he can attack enemies by sending wisps of purple fire that explode harming anything in contact of the blast. He can also momentarily transform into a small purple star and travel through small star-shaped spikes without being harmed. This ability is called Vanish.

Other

Standard Tactics: Starfy will use the star spin as their main method of attack, they may also use their optional equipment if the situation calls for it.

Weaknesses: Using the star spin too many times will cause Starfy to get dizzy. Is extremely clumsy to a fault, the very reason for Orgula’s escape in the first place was due to his clumsiness.

Note: The majority of the Starfy series [Denstesu no Starfy 2-4], aren't translated, thus a lot of the feats from them are purely visual based and grabbing the gist of what was said from AutumChild's let's play of it and reading articles of plot synopsis from the starfy wiki.
