The legendary dark knight who defeated the Devil-king some 2000 years ago. When sealing the netherworld, sensing his power had grown too strong, he intentionally seals himself in as well.
~ Sparda's description

Background

Sparda is a character from the Devil May Cry series. Known as the Legendary Dark Knight, Sparda was a demon from the Demon Realm who once served as the right-hand of the Dark Prince, Mundus. However, as the Demon Realm began to invade the Human Realm, Sparda woke up to the truth and turned against his former allies, defeating Mundus and sealing away the Demon Realm.

Now in the Human Realm, Sparda shed most of his demonic power and settled down for the next two millennia. Eventually, he fell in love with a human woman named Eva, with whom he had two sons, Dante and Vergil. Before his death, Sparda passed onto his sons the Rebellion and Yamato swords. After his death, Sparda would be revered as the legendary savior of mankind.

Codex Statistics

Tier: 2-B

Name: Sparda

Origin: Devil May Cry

Sex: Male

Age: Over 2,000 years old

Classification: Human, Demon, The Legendary Dark Knight

Status: Deceased (Through unknown circumstances, he died and became a legend)

Alignment: Neutral Good (Sparda is described to have woken up to the truth, being the first demon to realize the cruelty of the Demon Realm and the necessity of having compassion and other human traits. He fought against Mundus and sealed the Demon Realm simply because it was the right thing to do, and later fought Argosax for the same reason. He is the epitome of a hero in the series, and is constantly described by everyone who knew him as holding a pure heart)

Dimensionality: 3-D

Attack Potency: Multi-Universe level (Defeated Mundus, who was going to fuse together the Demonic and Human realms, which have separate time-space continuums)

Durability: Multi-Universe level

Striking Strength: Multi-Universe Class

Lifting Strength: At least Class K (Superior to Nero, who could casually lift extremely large demons like Berial)

Travel Speed: At least Supersonic (Superior to Dante, who ran so fast that he began to catch on fire, which requires this amount of speed)

Attack Speed: Faster Than Light

Reaction Speed: Faster Than Light (Superior to Dante who is able to avoid lasers from the Damned Rook, which move at lightspeed)

Stamina: Superhuman+ (Demons are constantly put on a level beyond human capabilities, able to withstand combat and other extremely strenuous activities without tiring. Sparda himself is one of, if not the strongest of all demon-kind, capable of taking on the Dark Prince Mundus and other god-like entities such as Argosax over the course of years. He's existed for over two millennia, without ever succumbing to fatigue, and is implied to have died from means other than old age)

Range: Standard Melee, Extended Melee with Devil Arms

Intelligence: Extraordinary Genius in combat (Sparda is the most legendary of all demons in the Demon Realm, which is saying a lot considering the size of the Realm and all of the countless demons within it. He was capable of defeating enemies with centuries of experience, such as the Dark Prince Mundus, and Argosax the Chaos. Sparda himself has existed as a knight for over 2,000 years, and was consistently seen as the highest ranking member of whatever party he was a part of)

Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics (It is stated that there is no modern weapon in existence that can kill a demon), Martial Arts (Can utilize powerful kick strikes), Weapon Mastery (Can proficiently wield blades), Regeneration (Mid; Has the same biology as Dante, who can instantly recover from being fatally stabbed numerous times, and being shot directly through the head), Damage Reduction (Weapons of the Human World deal less damage to those of demonic blood), Immersion (Similar to Dante, who can enter mirrors), Sealing (Has the power to seal away others much like his son)

His power is identical to the Devil Sword Sparda, which grants: Aura (Gives off a red aura), Social Influencing (Its presence causes for demons to perform endless ritualistic worshipping), Enhanced Senses Negation (Its own power can completely conceal the presence of others), Sealing Negation (Empowered by the Perfect Amulet which allows for Sparda to travel between the Human and Demon World, despite the connection between the two being sealed)

Resistance to:

Social Influencing (Can wield the Devil Sword Sparda without being forced to perform endless ritualistic worshipping), Pain Manipulation (Those of Sparda's blood can shrug off having multiple scythes pierced through their body, and are nonchalant about being shot through the head), Ice Manipulation (Comparable to Dante who can immediately break out after being frozen solid), Corruption (Type 2; Can breathe demonic air, which corrupts those who breath it into becoming monsters), Petrification & Transmutation (Demons are unaffected by the Qliphoth roots, which petrifies people and turns them into pollen for the tree)

Equipment

  • Rebellion: This large sword is one Sparda wielded long ago, which held the ability to fuse together Human and Demon power. Rebellion is a magic blade, though its true power has not truly awakened until Dante's confrontation against Vergil atop the Temen-ni-gru. Sparda gifted this sword to Dante before his disappearance.
  • Yamato: This blade is one Sparda wielded with deadly accuracy, long ago. It is said that his speed of his techniques are simply too fast for the human eye to come up with when wielding this blade. This sword was previously used by Sparda to seal away the pathway between the Human and Demon Realm, before he gave it to Vergil as a memento before his disappearance.
  • Force Edge: This sword was used to defeat Mundus and seal the gateway of the Underworld for two millennia. When combined with the two Amulets gifted to Dante and Vergil, the Force Edge reaches its true form as the Devil Sword Sparda. As a memento before his disappearance, Sparda gifted this sword to his sons.
  • Devil Sword Sparda: The legendary Sword of Sparda is the true form of the Force Edge, the actual blade used to defeat the Emperor of the Dark and prevent the entrance of the Underworld into our realm. The Sparda only assumes its true form after the Perfect Amulet is found. This weapon contains Sparda's demonic power, can be extended into a long spear-like weapon, and it can even take on a scythe shape.

  • Luce & Ombra: A set of dual handguns designed for rapid-fire action, which Sparda used long ago. After knocking an enemy into the air, Sparda can hold it in the air and "bullet juggle" it by constantly firing until the enemy disintegrates. Because of their ease of fire at a rapid rate, Luce and Ombra are Sparda's go-to firearms.

  • Perfect Amulet: A double-sided ruby pendant that allows for entry into the Underworld. It can also be used for awakening the true form of the Force Edge blade, transforming it into the Devil Sword Sparda. Sparda held this Amulet for centuries during his time on Earth, eventually gifting it to his human wife, Eva, who then gave two halves of it to their sons.
