Background

Knight Man is a Robot Master from Mega Man 6 designed to resemble a medieval knight with resistant armor. He was created primarily for combat, with high attack and defense attributes at the cost of lower mobility due to his weight. It is said that Knight Man has defeated over 1000 robots in duels. Knight Man is one of the two Mega Man 6 Robot Masters to be designed specifically for combat (the other being Tomahawk Man), though not explicitly for the First Annual Robot Tournament. In the First Annual Robot Tournament, Knight Man was reprogrammed by Mr. X to help him conquer the world.

His Special Weapon, the Knight Crusher, is a strong flail with a long chain in his left arm which allows him to attack with huge power from great distances. In his right arm, he holds a resistant knight's shield, allowing him to block almost all attacks from the front.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Knight Man’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Mega Man 6
Knight Man is one of the eight bosses. He attacks by throwing his mace at exactly where Mega Man was when he started the attack: jumping at the opposite side it comes is the best way to avoid this. Also, the player has to try to determine where Knight Man will land after a jump, because he will attempt to land right on Mega Man. Sliding is the safest way to dodge his landing. He is only vulnerable when he attacks, as his shield deflects almost any attack. His weakness is the Yamato Spear, which also pierces through his shield and defeats him in seven hits. The Power Adaptor can also ignore his shield, but only if it is fully charged, and it deals decent damage to him, defeating Knight Man in fourteen hits.

Rockman Strategy
In Rockman Strategy, Knight Man is one of the Robot Masters that assists Bass and Apollo. He is of the Fire attribute and is resistant to magma terrains. He can also be recruited to the player's team.

Standard Equipment

  • Mace Ball: A mace ball equipped on his left arm that he calls the Knight Crush. Utilizing the long chain link, he is able to launch the Knight Crush at his foes before retracting it for another attack.
  • Hard Shield: A shield on his right arm that is capable of blocking most types of attacks.

Notable Techniques

  • Knight Crusher: Knight Crusher is Knight Man's Special Weapon from Mega Man 6. It shoots a spiked ball that moves straightforward until a certain distance, moves in an arch and boomerangs back. The user can move while the ball is moving to extend its range when returning. Up to two balls can be used at the same time. It can also be fired in 6 directions: diagonally up and down to either side as well as straight to either side. Even when deflected by an enemy, the Knight Crusher will still return to Knight Man and deal damage to anything it touches. If it hits a shielded enemy such as the Tatebo or Shield Attacker GTR from below or behind, the Crusher will destroy it.

Standard Tactics: Knight Man will hop around and shoot otu his knight crusher while blocking attacks.

Weaknesses: Has a weakness to Yamato Man's yamato spear. If his data is corrupted, he will be incapable of coming back.

Trivia

  • Knight Man is believed to represent the United Kingdom, due to being based upon the classic depiction of a chivalrous knight, and his stage being based upon a castle that bears a resemblance to English castles such as Warwick Castle and Alnwick Castle. However, as Knight Man's flail is German in origin and his armor is interchangeable, some suspect that Knight Man is actually intended to represent Germany instead (additionally, the trees at the beginning of his level appear to be a reference to Germany's famous Black Forest).
  • His real life designer, Daniel Vallée, is Canadian, one of the first two non-Japanese persons to win a Mega Man boss character contest, the other in Mega Man 6 being Wind Man's designer. His name, however, was briefly mistaken as Daniel Vallie and written as such in the credits, largely due to sloppy handwriting on his part, which also resulted in his package being delivered much later than it was supposed to.[19]
    • The final design used in the game was mostly the same as in the original concept, including Vallée's implementation of an "armored skirt". However, notable differences included the crest actually just being spikes, and being redone to better resemble a manga character.
  • The amount of traps in Knight Man's stage reference how medieval castles were often set up with many in order to defend against invaders.
  • In Rockman Strategy, his shield is much rounder, and has a Wily symbol on it.

    A. I take it you’d like to know if Wily and Cossack’s robots possess “sentience”? Naturally, they each have a “consciousness”, although the level of every “cognitive circuit” embedded inside each one of them varies, producing as many different “personality” types as found in people… Just like you or I, they can speak, and have emotional responses like shyness, or anger, just as we do.
    Regarding their energy systems, many of them do utilize “solar energy” in some way.

    Dr. Wily has reformed, and he and Dr. Right have joined forces, working together to develop a giant peace-keeping robot named “GAMMA”.
    “GAMMA”…… It was the life-long dream of Dr. Right, a giant robot to protect and serve world peace.
    Their research almost complete, all that remained was to combine 8 energy elements that were scattered about the uncharted planets, and bestow them to “GAMMA”…
    –However, each planet met with an unexpected incident. The robots who were mining the energy elements suddenly began going berserk!! Upon learning of this from Dr. Right, “ROCKMAN” immediately set out on a path for the uncharted planets–a new battle was about to begin!!
