Crono! Oh, Crono, you're back! We... We were all waiting for you to come back. You can't... Don't ever leave us like that again! A lot of things happened, Crono. While you were away... First, we...and then... And after that I... so we... But... Crono! Are you even listening? There's so much I still have to tell you.
A new species is about to be born on this planet -- an alien life-form even more evolved than the old Lavos! At the darkness beyond time, the weakened Schala came under the influence of Lavos, and the two became one entity. It is now up to you, the one whom the Frozen Flame has chosen as its '"arbiter"'... You alone can decide how the new Lavos, which has encaged Schala within it, will evolve from here! Your actions will determine whether in the future all time is devoured by Lavos, sending the world into everlasting death. Belthasar foresaw this was going to happen, in his world in the year 2300. And he was determined to prevent it from happening, no matter what it took... The Chrono Cross... It alone can combine the sounds of the planet that the six types of Elements produce! The melody and harmony that brim within all life-forms... Use the '"song of life"' to heal her enmity and suffering... We entreat you, Sergre! Please save Schala... Please! Use the song of life to heal her enmity and suffering... You're the only one that can do it!
Marle is a character in Chrono Trigger. She is the princess of Guardia. Her real name is Princess Nadia, and she is often at odds with her father, the King. Born in 984 A.D. Later in the game, an optional sidequest fleshes out the troubles between Marle and her father.
This dropdown contains the synopsis of Marle’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!
Bored of royal life in the castle, she slips out to the Millennial Fair held at Leene Square in Truce. Here, she meets Crono but conceals her royal status from him. As the two enjoy the many games and foods at the festival, namely lollipops, which are her favorite, Marle tries out Lucca's Telepod, which reacts with her pendant and creates a time Gate, sending her to 600 A.D. Using her pendant, Crono travels back in time to rescue her. Shortly after arriving in Truce Canyon, Marle is either confronted by a search party or arrives at the Middle Ages version of Guardia Castle and is mistaken for her ancestor, Queen Leene, due to their parallel features and personality. Marle, quite humored by the misconception, plays along until Crono finds his way into the castle. Marle does not reveal her identity immediately to Crono but instead seeks an audience with him in the castle's private chambers. There, she reveals her identity. As the two are talking, a glowing green aura encompasses Marle and she evaporates in a spray of sparks. Stunned, Crono flees the room, bumping into Lucca in his haste. Finding her way to him via the Gate Key, she explains that Marle is, in fact, a Princess from their own time period and she realizes that this time period's kingdom has mistaken Marle for her kidnapped ancestor. Marle's ancestor, Queen Leene, went missing many days prior to Marle's arrival in the Middle Ages. A search party was called to find and rescue the Queen, but as Marle intervened in this time period and was mistaken for Leene, the search party was called off. Thus, the King and Queen did not produce an heir that would later mother Marle and created a grandfather paradox. Shortly after, the two hear the Chancellor mention that Queen Leene is hidden inside the Manolia Cathedral, west of the Castle.
To fix the timeline and bring Marle back, the two infiltrate the Cathedral, which is overrun by strange creatures and rescue Leene from Yakra who impersonated the royal Chancellor and held the Queen hostage in attempts to terrorize the monarchy. Marle, Crono, and Lucca return to their proper time period only to learn that a search party was called to find Marle, who was believed kidnapped by Crono. Using her authority, Marle demands the guards unhand Crono, but the Chancellor (of this time period) quickly overrules her. Placed on trial, Crono is accused of abducting Marle in attempts to thwart the throne, very similar to the event he attempted to resolve four hundred years in the past. Many scenes from the Millennial Fair play a role in this trial, but despite the verdict, Crono is imprisoned, pending execution.
Meanwhile, Lucca busts him out of jail and together they flee the Castle. Marle meets up with them and together, they take off for Guardia Forest, chased by Royal Guards and the Chancellor with the latter about to carry out Crono's death sentence himself. A Gate awaits them in the forest, and they use it to travel thirteen hundred years into the Future. After the team investigates Trann Dome, looking for a portal to take back to their proper time period, Robo joins the party. From this point forward, Marle's role in the story is optional. The player can decide to involve her or not. Including her introduces a plethora of different dialogue.
After the legendary Rainbow Shell is retrieved from Giant's Claw and stored in the Castle Vault, Marle's Father, King Guardia XXXIII is accused of selling the heirloom which was scheduled to be unveiled at the Moonlight Parade as stated in an ancestral will. The King claims he was not aware the artifact even existed. Marle, to prove her father's innocence, locates the shell in the basement of the Castle and brings a shard of it to the courtroom. The Chancellor, impersonated by Yakra XIII, attacks the party for ruining his scheme to usurp the throne. After he is defeated, the King and Marle share a touching scene where the King reveals hidden facts about the day her mother, Queen Aliza, died of a fatal illness. For the first time in years, Marle calls her father "daddy", and their problems are reconciled.
The PlayStation version of Chrono Trigger includes an FMV scene at the end that shows Crono and Marle getting married. While a second FMV depicts the fall of Guardia Kingdom in the year 1005 A.D, it is unknown what happened to Marle during this event, although if Doan is her descendant, she probably survived. In the sequel, Chrono Cross, Marle's fate is hinted at in Radius's statement about the Kingdom of Guardia was no longer being peaceful; she makes a cameo appearance alongside Crono and Lucca as ghosts at the Dead Sea and Opassa Beach.

*Dactyl: Dactyls are a form of transport in the Prehistory era of Chrono Trigger. They are winged reptiles that can be ridden. The chief of Laruba Village keeps the secret to riding Dactyls. When Ayla prepares to assault Tyranno Lair, she uses Dactyls to reach the mountaintop keep. Marle is able to use dactyls freely in Prehistory after defeating the Tyranno Lair. In the game, dactyls function like the Wings of Time (obtained much later) by allowing Marle to fly around the world and traverse oceans, mountains, and other barriers they could not cross on foot.
Epoch: The Epoch can access any of the key time eras in Chrono Trigger. The party initially seeks it after being sealed out of the Antiquity time period by Schala, following the advice of Gaspar. It does not rely on pre-existing Gates to operate. Once aboard the Epoch, Crono can access the Time Gauge. This gauge dominates the console of the Epoch and allows the pilot to select a destination time period Era. The Epoch is theoretically able to travel anywhere in time Era, the areas of note that the party usually travel to with it are Prehistory (65,000,000 BC), the Antiquity (12,000 BC), the Middle Ages (600 AD), the Present (1000 AD), the Apocalypse (1999 AD), the Future (2300 AD), and even the End of Time. At first, it operates the same way that the Gates do, depositing the travelers at the same physical location in different eras in time. This limits its use as a spatial transport. As shown in a cutscene, the Epoch possesses engines that cause it to hover in mid-air. The ship creates a time distortion directly in front of it, and the massive rockets at the rear of the ship propel it into the distortion. This has the effect of propelling the ship and its passengers forward, although they do not move in space at all. When the Epoch arrives at its destination in time, the lift engines shut down, lowering the Epoch to the ground in the same physical location. At a certain point in their adventure, the party loses the Epoch to Dalton. He modifies the ship with technology aboard the Blackbird, giving it the ability to fly. After he is defeated, the party regains use of the now flight-enabled Epoch. Using it, the time travelers can access any era or location in any point in time, which is necessary for certain side quests as well as reaching the Black Omen at any point in history.
Notable Techniques
*Crows Bow Hit: If an enemy is right next to Marle instead of shooting them she will hit them with the hilt of her bow.
Cross Bow Shot: Marle shoots an enemy with her crossbow from long range.
Critical Hit: Marle shoots two crossbow's at once dealing massive damage to the enemy
Counter-Attack: When equipped with certain accessories Marle will counter when an enemy attacks her without taking up a turn.
*Aura: Aura is Marle's 1st-level Tech and the first healing Tech of the game, Chrono Trigger. Aura heals approximately 50 Hit Points initially, but in its most powerful form, it heals up to 500 Hit Points. It can be used both in battle and outside of battle, through the menu. While effective to cast it alone, it also pairs with Crono's Cyclone Tech to perform Aura Whirl. Marle holds her arms out and an halo of blue light appears around her, then purple sparkles appear around the character whom the Tech was cast on. A high-pitched sound plays and the targeted character spins and their Hit Points heal.
Allure: Allure (also known as Provoke in the SNES/PS version) is Marle's 2nd-level Tech in Chrono Trigger. While seemingly ineffective, Allure draws enemy techs to Marle, provoking them to attack her instead of fellow party members. Allure is one of two non-offensive and non-healing techs to appear in a Triple Tech. Alongside Ayla and Lucca, she uses Allure to perform Poyozo Dance, a powerful tech with an innocuous and fun appearance, much like the animation for Allure. Additionally, she uses the Tech in conjunction with Ayla's Charm to boost the success rate of stealing valuable items from enemies. It is interesting that the two are paired together in this tech, and that both the rudimentary techs involved in it, rely on a sexual appeal to cast. As Ayla and Marle are distant relatives, this may be a way for the game designers to hint at their symmetrical personalities, or show that Marle's personality is somehow genetically inspired by her early ancestor. Marle giggles and turns around with a spin, then taps her bottom three times. With each tap, an odd sound effect plays.
Ice: Ice is Marle's 3rd-level Tech in Chrono Trigger, her first magic, and an enemy skill. Marle learns this upon meeting Spekkio. Marle holds her hands together and what looks like four pointy ice crystals circle in front of her. Then she holds her arms in front of her and a blue fire starts going towards the enemy, which the same crystals popping out of it as it goes. Upon hitting the enemy, a huge, blue-ish yet semi-transparent, ice chunk appears in front of the enemy, who is hit.
Cure: Cure is Marle's 4th-level Tech in Chrono Trigger. It's yet another one of Marle's healing Techs, being significantly stronger than Aura. Marle makes her casting pose, which involves her holding her hands together and her hair floating. Big, yellow sparkles circle in front of her and similar sparkles shower upon whom the Tech was cast on.
Haste: Haste is Marle's 6th-level Tech. Doubling an ally's speed, Marle learns Haste after acquiring 250 Tech Points. While Haste is a useful Tech, equipping the Haste Helm provides a single ally with a permanent speed boost, equivalent to the boost granted by Haste, until unequipped. When cast, Marle holds her hands together and sends a batch of sparkles into the air. Extending her hands out toward the target, a tickling clock appears above their head. While Haste is in effect, the afflicted character glows red.
Ice II: Ice II is Marle's 6th-level Tech and one of Magus' starting Techs. Also an enemy skill, Ice II is Marle's strongest offensive Magical Tech in the game. As Marle Holding her hands together, several sparkles of blue light, resembling snowflakes, orbit Marle. Following this, the screen turns blue and a blue ring bursts from her as two layers of jagged ice crash down on all opponents for moderate Water damage.
Cure II: Cure II is Marle's 7th-level Tech. It fully restores the Hit Points of one party member. While being able to cast Cure II, it can be used outside of battle through the game menu. It is the stronger version of Cure. Sparkles circle around then caster, and numerous sparkles shower upon the character this Tech is cast on.
Arise: Arise is Marle's 8th-level Tech and the ultimate healing magic in Chrono Trigger. As Marle spins and white sparkles circle around her, she closes her eyes and a strong beige light shines upon the knocked-out character. Three small, blond angels descend the pillar of light and flutter into the character, which is then revived and fully healed.
*Aura Whirl: Aura Whirl is Crono and Marle's 1st-level Double Tech. Marle puts her healing Aura around Crono as he begins to spin it around the battlefield restoring a small amount of HP to all allies.
Ice Sword: Ice Sword is a Double Tech in Chrono Trigger used by Crono and Marle. In the move, Marle slowly floats up into the air, preparing an ice spell. Meanwhile, Crono readies his Cleave technique. Crono then leaps into the air and Marle sends her magic to Crono's blade as he comes down on the target, encasing it in a large ice crystal. The target then receives a large amount of Water damage.
Ice Sword II: Ice Sword II is a Tech used by Crono and Marle. In the move, Marle slowly floats up into the air, preparing an ice spell. Meanwhile, Crono readies his Cleave technique. Crono then leaps into the air and Marle sends her magic to Crono's blade as he comes down on the target, encasing it in a large ice crystal, immediately after, chrono uses his frenzy technique, cutting the ice crystal into four slices that slide horizontally. The target then receives a large amount of Water damage.
*Antipode Bomb: Antipode Bomb is a Tech used by Marle and Lucca in Chrono Trigger. It can be used after Marle and Lucca meet Spekkio and obtain magical powers, then fight together in the same battle. This tech is the base form of Antipode Bomb II and Antipode Bomb III, its predecessors. Marle freezes the enemy in a large block of ice, and Lucca destroys the ice with an explosion centered on the enemy.
Antipode Bomb II: Antipode Bomb II is a dual Tech used by Marle, and Lucca. To perform, Marle must know Ice II and Lucca must know Fire II. Any time after learning Magic from Spekkio at the End of Time, Marle and Lucca can increase their Tech Points and eventually learn this tech. This is the stronger version of Antipode Bomb, and the weaker form of Antipode Bomb III. Marles freezes the enemy in a block of ice, and then Lucca uses her magic to boil the ice from them.
Antipode Bomb III: Antipode Bomb III (also known as Antipode 3 in the SNES/PS version) is a Tech used by Marle and Lucca in Chrono Trigger. To perform, Marle must know Ice II and Lucca must know Flare. Any time after learning Magic from Spekkio at the End of Time, Marle and Lucca can increase their Tech Points and eventually learn this tech. This is the stronger version of Antipode Bomb and Antipode Bomb II. The screen turns a deep, crimson-red. Several explosives occur, as the result of Lucca's Flare tech. While the orange orbs are exploding, the enemies struck by the tech flash blue, indicating that Marle has frozen them.

Other
Standard Tactics: Marle's style of fighting is that of a mage & healer, with equipment she uses to defend from various physical attacks and magical spells. Marle is naturally better fighting with a team given her class so she normally will summon her friends across time to help her in combat and do various team attacks. If the enemy proves very powerful she might use the Epoch to ram it.
Weaknesses: As Marle's magic element is water/ice she is weak to the fire element. Though this is mitigated by various armors and headgears. She's also someone who does a lot of actions without thinking it through.
Note: The 50% of damage absorption does not mean they absorb 50% of the damage and take the other 50% of damage, it means that they convert 50% of the damage into health, while the other 50% is neglected.
Note 2: Marle's time paradox immunity is on a weaker scale as she is affected by time paradoxes during the beginning of the game, though this suggests it requires the direct death of her important ancestors in order for her to be truly affected.
