Genos
From The Codex
“ | If there was a threat that my master could not defeat, humanity would have perished long ago. | „ |
~ Genos' admiration towards Saitama |
Background
Genos is the deuteragonist of One-Punch Man. He is a 19-year-old cyborg and the disciple of Saitama. He is always aiming to become more powerful and he fights for justice. Under the Hero Association, he is given the name Demon Cyborg and is currently S-Class Rank 14.
Personality
- Unwavering Determination: When Genos sets his mind to something, he does it t once. Such as when he moved to live with Saitama, he stood there with all of his belongings, intent on showing his "unwavering determination".
- Admiration to Saitama: Genos without any doubt has absolute dedication to his master. Going as far as to call for complaints whenever the heroes association ever does something wrong, such as messing up his merchandise or when he was going to go off to attack a person for sending Saitama hate mail. Genos views his master as an absolute being of true heroism. Zombieman even notes that Genos really admires Saitama[1]. Genos himself has even said nothing is more important then Saitama[2], showing his admiration for him even goes beyond his vegeance against the mysterious cyborg.
- Straightfoward: Genos unlike some of the other heroes, is on constant pursuit of any monster, even if his arms or legs are ripped off he won't stop fighting until he's at his opponents throats, being noted to have a "demonic" aggression.
- Vengeance: His pursuit of strength is fueled by his desire for vegeance from the mysterious cyborg who took his hometown from him. Genos notes how Amai Mask was like him before he met Saitama, having a hard heart that deeply hates evil and rushes to destroy it[3].

Powers and Techniques
All previous powers and abilities to a greater extent, Body Control (He can extend his fist outwards with rockets to catch his opponent off guard, Saitama refers to it as a "rocket punch"[80]), Heat Manipulation (Used his incinerate to melt the internal structures of one to make them not able to move anymore[81])
All previous powers and abilities to a greater extent, Adhesive Manipulation (Can create an adhesive gel-like substance to trap those faster then him[82])
All previous powers and abilities to a greater extent, Flight (Can use his jet thrusters to fly at enemies[83]), Thread Manipulation (Can shoot out thread tendrils from his arm to trap his opponent in[84]), Cyborgization (Full; During his fight with Elder Centipede, his body was cut in half though he is able to reconnect it back[85]).
All previous powers and abilities to a greater extent, Lock-On & Energy Manipulation (Genos now has beams that come out the side of his arms that can home in on targets[87])
All previous powers and abilities to a greater extent, Electricity Manipulation & Light Manipulation (With lightning nucleus, creates a massively bright flash of light with electricity around it[88])
All beings in One-Punch Man have a Limiter which through trying to break it[89], starts granting them the following abilities:
Indomitable Will (One that breaks their limiter need to have extreme will to continue[90]), Pain Tolerance (As they constantly need to put constant pressure on both their body and mind[91]), Accelerated Development (Passive, Physical Stats & Abilities; Limiter Removal, allows for endless growth as there is no intrinsic limit placed on people[92]), Adaptation (Garou has shown to increase himself to blitzing and overpowering Darkshine, who previously managed to break his entire ribcage, by breaking his limiter[93]), Supernatural Resilience (Characters like Garou were able to survive being ripped apart and a hole in his chest[94]), Resurrection (To experience explosive growth, one must be on the brink of death and die than resurrect[95]).
Equipment
- Hyper Sensor: He can sense living organisms, fast approaching objects, high-energy bodies, and many other anomalies. It's impossible to catch him off guard.
- Search Eye: Once a target is locked on to, no matter how fast it moves, or how hidden it is by a smoke screen, he never loses sight of it.
- Core: At the heart of his body is his energy source, the core. When detatched and connected to parts such as his arms, he can concentrate his power in a single spot.
- Cyborg Legs: To withstand high speed movement, they have a robust design. They are also equipped with shock absorbers, reducing the time lag between landing and the next action.
- Boosters: By using the boost installed in his shoulders, he's able to achieve super ultra acceleration. The incineration cannon on the palm of his hand can be fired in the opposite direction, allowing him to change direction suddenly.
- Incinerate: The main weapons that define Genos are cannons on his arms. They fire high-temperature heat rays to instantly wipe out enemies, even from a distance.
- Arms Mode: In order to stop the giant meteor from hitting the ground, he docked with "Arms Mode", a new prototype equipment created by Dr. Kuseno. Concentrating the energy in the arms, it greatly increases the power of the incineration cannon.
Notable Techniques
- Incineration Cannon: High-temperature heat rays that can melt iron fired from the palm of his hand. With frequent modifications, its power has increased dramtically.
- Maximum Gauge Incineration Cannon: Incineration cannon at maximum output. With all the guns open and firing in unison, it's power is in a different league. He fires his cannons in all directions to attack a wide area at the same time. If fired, it will turn the surrounding area into a schorched land in an instant.
- True Spiral Incineration Cannon: Genos' ultimate attack used in his Post-Elder Centipede body, he notes it is so powerful it can pulverize a massive meteor.
- Rocket Punch: He uses the boost in his wrist to send his fist flying as a punch, a new attack made possible by the new parts he showed in the battle against Machine God G4.
- Machine Gun Blows: He unleashes a barrage of punches just like a machine gun. He uses his arm boost to speed up his barrage, and his iron fists rain down like a torrential downpour, crushing his enemies.
- Boost Attack: A flying kick that uses the momentum of boost acceleration. A kick of iron that strikes at high speed and crushes the enemy's vital organs precisely.
- Jet Drive Arrow: A diving kick attack done by Genos against Elder Centipede, where he re-connects his cut in half body to and greatly enhances all of his jet thrusters in order to deliver a devastating diving kick.
- Self-Destruct: Genos' final weapon which he'll use when he's cornered to the extreme limit, is his own core, which will detonate and blow up everything, including himself and the enemy.
Other
Standard Tactics:
- Pre-Giant Meteor Arc: Genos mainly focused on fast barrage of punches along with using his incineration beam, if he feels the opponent is too strong, he will proceed to self-destruct to take them down for good.
- Post-Giant Meteor Arc: Genos employs the same strategy though uses more thought with his fights.
- Post-Alien Conquerors Arc: Genos employs the same strategy though uses more thought with his fights, using attacks such as extended his fist out with a rocket to catch an opponent off guard, and used his heat to melt the robots internal strucutres so they could not move anymore[102].
- Post-Super Fight Arc: Genos employs similar strategies, though he has thrusters now that can pull him off of the ground.
- Post-Elder Centipede Fight: Genos employs similar strategies, though he can now use his ten second mode to use his offensive skills to overpower an opponent.
Weaknesses
- Standard Weaknesses: Due to being a cyborg, physical training means nothing to Genos[103]. It takes his internal energy five seconds to charge a full power blast from his incineration cannons[104]. Fully using up his core's energy will make him unable to move[105]. While Genos has outstanding functionality, he doesn't have any weapons for defeating monsters as large as Elder Centipede, with his firepower being limited by his weapon specs[106].
- Arc Specific Weaknesses:
- Giant Meteor Arc: His arm upgrades are a prototype[107].
- Post-Elder Centipede Fight: Genos' full power can only be used for ten seconds as his body can not withstand anymore[108].
Note
- One-Punch Man has a weird two chapter numbering system, one based on those published in volumes and one based on the online chapters, along with the numbering being further messed with due to redrawn chapters and merges/splits, due to this it is not viable to do references to chapters, but rather through arcs.
Miscellaneous Feats
- Easily cleared the physical exams, noting them to be easy[109], with it being noted that Genos passing both the written and physical test with perfect scores is a feat that hasn't been seen in two years, along with him jumping straight to S class[110].
Trivia
- Genos likes Saitama's teachings and oiled sardines[111].
- Genos dislikes people who look down on Saitama and complicated electronics[112].
- Genos hobbies are surfing the internet, reading, and writing in his diary[113].
- Genos' hero name origin came from him attacking every monster with unfaltering aggressiveness, unafraid of the ciousness or disaster level[114].
- Genos cannot be rated by the Okame device due to being cyborg machinery with the Okame device only analyzing muscle mass, neural development and weight distribituion for overall physical strength[115].
Overly Long Quotes
These are the overly long quotes Genos gives that are slightly harder to read in the manga. Genos telling Saitama his backstory:
“ | It all started 4 years ago. I was 15 years old and still a normal human being. Even in this harsh world, I had a pretty happy and peaceful life with my family until then. But one day, a crazy cyborg attacked our town all of a sudden. He had completely lost his mind. I guess his brain had been damaged during its transplantation into his cyborg body. He left after destroying everything in the town. The parks, the schools, the buildings, my home. Of course, my family didn't survive. Only I was miraculously spared, but as I was just a meek 15-year-old boy back then, I wouldn't have survived long all alone in the ruins of a town if Dr. Kuseno hadn't passed the town by chance and found me. Dr. Kuseno is a scientist of justice and was pursuing the cyborg to stop him. I begged Dr. Kuseno to transform me into a cyborg and was reborn as a cyborg who fights for justice. I made a promise to Dr. Kuseno to find that cyborg one day and destroy him. | „ |
Genos explaining what he found inside of his alt timeline core:
“ | It's merely a hypothesis based on the so-called parallel world or multiverse theory, but I suspect that this core came from one of the countless parallel worlds that diverged as a result of your actions. I do not know at what point this divergence occurs, when the observer makes a decision or when the observer takes action, but it has been confirmed that a new you separated from the original you at the start of your time travel, and merged with the you of this timeline when the moment was completed. The timing of the separation and merging may be a clue to the timing of when the parallel worlds split off. Back to what I was saying, in the future where this core comes from, I was killed by Garou. Even if you were holding back a lot, there is no way that you could have been defeated by Garou, no matter how many parallel worlds exist, and in fact, the events surrounding the core have made it clear that even if the worst outcome had occurred, with the death of me and all the other heroes right before your eyes, you would have transcended time and space to save us all. Your ability to transcend and manipulate the laws of causality is now proof positive of your completely flawless sense of heroism, as we've come to expect from you, master. As for the principles behind traveling backward in time, we can predict it would fall into one of the three scenarios. The first one is... | „ |
