Background

Roll (ロール Rōru) is a kind-hearted humanoid robot created by Dr. Light to be a housekeeper, helping around Dr. Light's Laboratory by cleaning and cooking. Roll is like a younger sister to Mega Man. Her dream is to one day open a hospital to help people in need.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Roll’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Mega Man, Mega Man 3 & Mega Man 4 Roll has a small appearance in the ending of these three games, and is mentioned in the opening scene of Mega Man 4.

Mega Man V Roll appears in the opening scene.

Mega Man 7 Roll appears in the opening and ending scenes of the game, and will also appear randomly in the get weapon description in the Japanese version.[6]

Mega Man 8 Roll exchanges gadgets in Dr. Light's Lab for Mega Man to use for the right prices of bolts. She appears in the opening scene, and in the intro she interrupts the battle between Mega Man and Bass via a hovering vehicle to head a distress signal by Dr. Light. In the ending scene, Roll hugs Mega Man, happy that he is alright.

Mega Man & Bass Roll uses a communicator to give tips on the stage and CD locations for the player. Roll also makes an appearance in Mega Man's ending, giving King's letter of an apology to Mega Man.

Mega Man 9 Roll appears in the opening and ending scenes, and with Auto in cutscenes during the game and the shop screen. Her dress changes to how it looked in Mega Man 8 when the player purchases certain items.

Mega Man 10 Roll winds up as a victim of the Roboenza virus which had caught on throughout the robotic world. Consequently, she remains sick throughout the events of the entire game. Mega Man himself later catches the disease and the medicine-making machine is stolen by Dr. Wily. Roll, in an effort to save his life, then gives Mega Man her medicine which she had saved for later, telling him that he is the only one who can stop Wily. She was later cured along with the other infected robots.

Mega Man 11 Roll is seen in the game's opening cutscene helping Dr. Light carry out the annual maintenance check-ups for all the robots. In the game, she assists Auto with running the shop, where she handles the Item/Support section. Additionally, Roll appears in the game's ending where she is the first to notice that Dr. Light had installed the Double Gear System into Auto, which Dr. Light admits he did so, but only while Auto repairs the eight Robot Masters so their abilities would not go to waste. Eventually, Auto starts slowing down as the Double Gear System's effect on his body wears off (which she teases him for) and claims that they will have to "pick up his pieces" if they make him go faster.

Rockman & Forte Mirai Kara no Chōsensha: Roll appears in the ending of the game. She is also the shopkeeper in Bass's story.

Mega Man: The Power Battle Roll appears in Mega Man's ending.

Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters Roll was kidnapped by Dr. Wily's robots and the player(s) must rescue her. After defeating a certain boss in the "Rescue Roll!" chapter, Roll will be rescued and she, to show her thanks for being saved, will give the player(s) the new parts that she stole from the Wily robot which will upgrade the energy of their Special Weapons. Depending on who rescued her, she'll apologize for causing worry (Mega Man), note that he'll always be there to save her (Proto Man), express glee at being saved (Duo) or ponder whether to trust her savior (Bass). In addition, with the exception of Bass, her supplying the new parts will have her expressing glee (with Bass, her facial expression is closer to that of bafflement). Upon the destruction of Wily's fortress, Roll can be seen flying on top of the Rush Jet in the left before each character ending, possibly signifying her rescue, and she supports Mega Man in his ending as well as his cooperative mode ending with Proto Man.

RockBoard Roll appears as a playable character for the first time. Her goal is to build a hospital to help all the sick and injured people in the world.[4]

Mega Man's Soccer Roll appears in the opening scene and shortly carrying a banner with Kalinka that says "congartulations" ("congratulations" misspelled) in the end of a match from Tournament Mode. In the unused Tournament Mode ending , accessible only by using a "Game Genie", she comes with a bouquet of red roses for the winning team leader while Kalinka comes with the trophy.

Mega Man: Battle & Chase Roll is a playable character. At first she only wanted to encourage Mega Man, but decided to participate in the Battle & Chase contest. In her ending she loses the prize money while saving a dog's life from a possible fate of being roadkilled. If Roll wins the Battle & Chase competition without losing a single race, a karaoke of her theme song Kaze yo Tsutaete will appear after her ending scene in the Japanese version.

Super Adventure Rockman Roll was affected by the electromagnetic field from Lanfront Ruins, and will shut down permanently if Mega Man can't stop Dr. Wily and his 16 revived Robot Masters from Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3.

Mega Man Powered Up Roll is a playable character as a download. She also appears a lot more often than she did in her unnamed appearance in the original Mega Man, as she appears in every New Style Story of every playable character (including Proto Man), can be seen in the stage select screen of either the Old or New Style modes, and she appears as the host for the Construction Mode of the game, even going as far to give tutorials for first-time players who are constructing their own levels. When playing as Roll, one can battle the Copy Robot using her form, this being the closest she has come to being a boss in a classic-style game. Roll also has several downloadable clothes. This game also introduces an ability called Roll Swing, replacing the "Roll Buster" from spinoff titles. By default, she swings a broom, although she'll swing other objects if she is wearing a costume.

Mega Man: Anniversary Collection Roll appears as a navigator in the Navi Mode for Mega Man 2 of Mega Man: Anniversary Collection and Rockman Complete Works.

Roll is a robot), Immortality (Type 3; Through robots and reploids ability to regenerate back their body and data. Type 6; Robot Masters can survive wounds such as being cut in half, with ones such as Proto Man calling it merely "a flesh wound", being able to come back just fine after teleporting away to be repaired. Type 8; All robots "true existences" rely on their data, thus as long as their data is stored they can be remade or come back if their data is specifically "SAVED". With data further being explored through here), Regeneration (Mid. Should scale to Mega Man and all the other Robot Masters who all regenerate after being flattened in Mega Man Powered Up. Mid-Godly through their data; In Mega Man Xtreme, Sigma was trying to reproduce the past data of several mavericks in the mother computer to bring havoc to the world's peace and the only way the past data of previously defeated Mavericks from X1 and X2 could be stopped is if X goes inside as his data form. Inside the Mother Computer, X defeats Vile's data form along with the data forms of a bunch of mavericks he has previously defeated. However, despite defeating their data form, their data is still are able to come back for the rematches at the end of the game along with Vile being back in the hard mode's post game story. Despite destroying Vile's data twice, he was still able to come back and better then ever in Mega Man X8. In Mega Man ZX, Omega's soul data along with flashes of the past battle in Zero 3 are trapped in area O and even after defeat, he can come back without limit even after obtaining Model OX which contains his soul data. With data further being explored through here), Resurrection (Robots that are fought and defeated are able to be brought back as long as they still have their data, with this also extending to reploids being able to come back for rematches. With data further being explored through here), Information Manipulation (Can directly interact with, harm, and destroy a robots data, which all robots "true existences" rely on their data, thus as long as their data is stored they can be remade or come back if their data is specifically "SAVED". With data further being explored through here), Transformation, Flight, Intangibility, and Pseudo-Teleportation (Can transform into a beam of light and teleport to specific locations. She is also intangible in this state), Energy Projection (With Roll-Buster), Power Absorption and Power Bestowal (Can absorb the abilities of Robot Masters and gives abilities she gets to Mega Man), Accelerated Development (Roll was just Dr. Light's helper robot and shocked Dr. Light when she said she wanted to help with even Dr. Wily being underwhelmed. Despite this and her not really fighting previously, she was able to defeat all the robot masters and Dr. Wily himself), Fire Manipulation Negation (Shown here and here), Air Manipulation (With Spin Attack), Transmutation (Smaller characters are turned into mines that can explode), Power Nullification (Blocker prevents an opponent from using Special Attacks. Count Up destroys any items an opponent has and forces them to destroy 10 things before they can get new items), Explosion Manipulation (With Remote Controlled Bombs), Statistics Amplification and Invulnerability (Threefold Chance greatly amplifies the affects of items. Power Nitro greatly increases your power and speed as you can casually ram through opponents like the Super-Star in Mario Kart as well as making you invulnerable to attacks), Electricity Manipulation, Statistics Reduction, and Invulnerability Negation (Lightning bolt hits all opponents no matter where they are on a race-track it slows their speed and negates the affects of Power Nitro)

Resistance to Mind Manipulation and Soul Manipulation (As a robot, Roll does not have a soul or mind, and functions on AI programming), Extreme Cold and Heat (Is fine while being here and here), Absolute Zero (Should scale to Mega Man and can take hits from Ice Man who should scale to Cold Man)

Standard Equipment

  • Broom: With the "Roll Swing" by default, she swings a broom, although she'll swing other objects if she is wearing a costume.
  • Flag: With the "Roll Swing", when wearing the sports outfit she will swing a flag at full force.
  • Lance: With the "Roll Swing", when wearing the knight outfit, she will swing a lance at full force.
  • Umbrella: With the "Roll Swing", when wearing the rainy day outfit, she will swing an umbrella at full force.
  • Butterfly Net: With the "Roll Swing", when wearing the straw outfit, she will swing a butterfly net at full force.
  • Parasol: With the "Roll Swing", when wearing the vacation outfit, she will swing a parasol at full force.
  • Mallet: With the "Roll Swing", when wearing the summer outfit, she will swing a mallet at full force.
  • Witches Broom: With the "Roll Swing", when wearing the halloween outfit, she will swing a witches broom at full force.
  • Fish: With the "Roll Swing", when wearing the alley cat outfit, she will swing a fish at full force.
  • Candy Stick: With the "Roll Swing", when wearing the Roll Claus outfit, she will swing a candy cane at full force.
  • Ninjatō: With the "Roll Swing", when wearing the ninja outfit, she will swing a Ninjatō at full force.
  • Box of Chocolates: With the "Roll Swing", when wearing the valentine outfit, she will swing a box of chocolates at full force.
  • Blocker: Prevents the opponent from using their special abilities for a short time. If this is done to oneself, they will hear a sound effect and their meter will take on the appearance of the icon of the Blocker item. Their character’s face will also change expressions.
  • Count-Up: Adds 10 points to the opponent’s counter, meaning he has to destroy an additional 10 obstacles before he can get an item. A nasty side effect is that this also destroys any items or roulettes the target had at that moment, thus robbing them of the chance to use them.
  • Lightning Bolt: This hits all other racers on the track and causes them to spark for a brief span. During this time their speed is reduced. Note that this effect is similar to driving over deceleration zones, or getting hit by a Shadow Blade.
  • Mine Transformer: All small Mets and traffic cones turn into mines for a short while. This one is risky to use as it is often hard to avoid hitting the very mines one created. It also means one can’t get as many points for the duration of this item.
  • Power Nitro: Makes one invincible, and increases their speed and acceleration and handling. One generally will not spin out while using this, but some attacks can still harm them. Note that a Lightning Bolt will cancel a Power Nitro completely, but the reverse is not true. A Power Nitro activated after a Lightning Bolt will override the Lightning Bolt, thus negating it, but only for as long as the Nitro lasts. If the Nitro wears off before the Bolt (such as in the case where a Threefold Chance was used), one will still be hit by the lightning bolt afterward.
  • Remote Controlled Bomb: Pyramid-shaped mines. Press Circle to release the bombs, then Circle again to detonate. Tricky to aim and use intelligently.
  • Threefold Chance: The next item one gets will be three times as powerful. For most items this means their effective time span is increased. Other items such as the power nitro will essentially allow the user to boost forever.
  • Pop'n Beat: Roll's car used in Mega Man Battle & Chase, it is for beginners with jump and spin attacks available.
