~ Mortal Kombat 4 bio
Reptile had discovered the plot devised by Shang Tsung and Quan Chi to assassinate Shao Kahn. But on his way to inform his master, he was distracted by a vampire woman named Nitara. She led him to the hidden base camp of Kitana's forces. Knowing the location of the base would be a great help to the Emperor in the war against Edenia and the Shokan. Eager to relay all that he had learned, Reptile raced back to Shao Kahn's Fortress, only to discover him lying dead on the throne room floor. Reptile's detour to Kitana's base camp had delayed him just long enough for Shang Tsung and Quan Chi to spring their attack on Shao Kahn. Reptile was devastated that he had failed his master and wandered the Outworld wastelands aimlessly until he once again crossed paths with Nitara. Desperately in need of a master, he offered his loyalty to her. Her first command to him was to attack the invader from Earthrealm, Cyrax. She explained that he must first destroy his arm panel in order to weaken the outsider.

I am Reptile, and I do not answer to you. Fight!
~ Reptile to Taven in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon's Konquest Mode

His home realm of Zaterra is gone, mysteriously destroyed ages ago. Reptile is the last known surviving member of his race. He has since made Outworld his home. Shao Kahn has made use of Reptile’s mastery of stealth to spy on suspected traitors and slay known enemies of the empire. But the knowledge that he is the last of his kind gnaws at Reptile. He would give anything, destroy anyone, if it would bring his realm back from the abyss. Self-pity fuels his aggression as he inflicts suffering and death on others.

You are not Shao Kahn's true heir! She is a construct. Formed in Shang Tsung's Flesh Pits. I saw this. Your best claim for the throne is moot.
~ Reptile referring to Mileena in Mortal Kombat X.
Reptile's home realm of Zaterra was conquered and assimilated long ago by the Outworld Emperor Shao Kahn, leaving Reptile the sole survivor. Reptile has since served Outworld's rulers faithfully--biding his time until he can find a way to recreate his Raptor race. Reptile possesses many reptilian traits, which make him a formidable foe.
~ Mortal Kombat X Bio
Reptile is Zaterran, one of the reptiloid race which lives on Outworld’s fringes. Like other reptiles, Zaterrans can camouflage themselves. But Reptile possesses a unique mutation: one which allows him to shift shape to appear human. Bullied mercilessly by Zaterrans for this ability, Reptile left home to make his future elsewhere.

Background

Syzoth, more commonly referred to as Reptile, is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. A humanoid-reptilian from the realm of Zaterra, Reptile has remained one of the most recognized character in the series. He has served as a neutral and antagonistic character throughout his appearances, often siding with many other Outworld characters while staying loyal to Shang Tsung.

Reptile made his debut as one of the few original characters in the first Mortal Kombat game, appearing as an unplayable secret character, the first secret character in fighting game history. He would make his playable debut in Mortal Kombat II.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Syzoth’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!
Mortal Kombat

Reptile faithfully served as Shang Tsung's protector in the first tournament. Being a master of stealth, he stayed hidden and constantly watched over Shang Tsung, staying true to his duty. He rarely fought, but was a very skilled fighter. He utilized many special abilities, which added to his fighting skills to make him a force to be reckoned with.

Mortal Kombat II
He protected his master from harm, and then went on to receive special missions from Shao Kahn himself, who had promised to release the remaining members of his race from slavery if he would unquestioningly do his bidding.

Mortal Kombat 3
Such an opportunity arose when Kitana had escaped into the unknown regions of Earthrealm during Kahn's invasion of that world. Reptile was sent by Shao Kahn, who promised Reptile to resurrect his race if he succeeded, with Jade to find and, if necessary, kill Kitana. He did not succeed as Jade betrayed him to help Kitana.

After the war was over, with Kahn defeated and both Earth and Edenia free, Reptile was brought back as a prisoner to Edenia, and tried there for genocide, a bitter irony since his own race once was the victim of the very same act. Reptile was then exiled to the Netherrealm.

Mortal Kombat 4
When the fallen Elder God Shinnok invaded Edenia, Reptile grasped the opportunity to join Shinnok's Army of Darkness as a commander, hoping to convince Shinnok to revive his near extinct race. After being on the losing side once more, he escaped into Outworld again and rejoined his old masters, in spite of the fact that neither had ever kept their promises towards him.

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance
Because of his state of separation from the other members of his race, and especially his matriarch, Reptile had begun to show signs of devolution. Where he used to mask his appearance by posing as a human, this proved to be no longer possible. Reptile had nearly gone insane and had a significantly changed in appearance, including bare feet and a tail.

With the armies of Edenia and Outworld locked in combat, Shao Kahn requested the services of the sorcerer Shang Tsung. Reptile was sent to tell Tsung of the emperor's request but upon reaching Shang Tsung’s new place of residence since being released from prison, Reptile overheard Tsung and Quan Chi forming their alliance and plotting to kill Shao Kahn. On his way back to inform his master, he was distracted by Nitara, who revealed to him knowledge of his lost civilization. She gave him the Kirehashi blade, which was an artifact of the Zaterran civilization, as proof and revealed to Reptile the location of Kitana’s forces. Reptile knowing how this knowledge would greatly aid his master in the war with Edenia raced back to tell the emperor, but he was too late; Shao Kahn lay slain on the floor.

Mortal Kombat: Deception
The desperate and purposeless Reptile wandered Outworld aimlessly until he came across Nitara yet again. Desperate for a new master Reptile declared his loyalties to Nitara, but unknown to Reptile, he had always been merely a pawn in Nitara's plan to free her people's realm from the Outworld. The first step had been to distract Reptile long enough for the Deadly Alliance to kill Shao Kahn unhindered; next, she manipulated Reptile and the cyber-ninja Cyrax into battle. Reptile damaged Cyrax, ensuring the cyber-ninja would later help Nitara in her quest for the Portal Sphere. Eventually, Reptile came to realize that Nitara had fooled him, and that her plan had lead to the death of his master Shao Kahn. Enraged, Reptile tracked the vampire and Cyrax to the Lava Shrine, but he was too late. The portal sphere had been destroyed, and of Nitara and Cyrax there was no sign. All that remained was the almost fully incubated dragon egg of Onaga the Dragon King. The egg hatched, a beam of light struck Reptile and Reptile's body became the vessel for the reincarnated Onaga (It is unknown if the egg still became another dragon after that but it is unlikely).

It is described in an unlockable photo of Reptile's home realm Zaterra that members of his race can lose their humanoid appearance when separated for long periods of time from their monarchical leader; given the fact that this authority figure - like most of his people - were most likely wiped out centuries ago by Shao Kahn, the fact that Reptile did not start to 'devolve' until after he assumed his master was killed at the end of Mortal Kombat Trilogy, and his race's natural camouflage ability to look like normal humans, it's more likely that Reptile's 'devolution' was a result of his increasingly maddening state overriding what mental capacity was required to maintain his human guise instead of a physical metamorphosis into a prior state of evolution.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon
Reptile's separation from Onaga was seemingly explained by Nightwolf's ending in Deception, whereupon he bound Onaga's soul to the Netherrealm and Shujinko's opening in Armageddon, where his body is seen on the floor, lifeless after the final blow delivered by Shujinko. He is encountered by Taven in Konquest mode in the lair of the Red Dragon clan. Though no explanation is offered as to why he is there, it's possible that Reptile's DNA was also being used, along with Daegon's dragon, Caro's, as a means of creating human-reptilian hybrids, since the Red Dragon Hybrids do bear some resemblance to Reptile and can also spit acid. This might have been another way, in his eyes, to get his Saurian race to be restored. Taven defeated Reptile in a fight and released Caro.

Reptile later joins the Forces of Darkness where he can be seen fighting Kai and later Kitana. He was However killed during the final battle.

Mortal Kombat (2011)
Reptile fights for Outworld against Earthrealm in the tenth Mortal Kombat tournament. He battles Johnny Cage during the first match of the tournament, but is defeated. After the end of the tournament, Reptile, Baraka, and Kitana bring Shang Tsung to Shao Kahn, the Emperor of Outworld, to stand trial for his failure to merge the realms. Reptile makes another appearance during the second Mortal Kombat tournament, whispering to Shang Tsung something inaudible, which pleases the sorcerer.

Reptile is next seen in the Living Forest. While Kano and Shang Tsung prepare to make a deal over the Black Dragon firearms, Smoke interrupts. After Smoke defeats Kano, Shang Tsung morphs into the elder Sub-Zero and teams up with Reptile to face Smoke in a two-on-one fight. Smoke defeats both Reptile and Shang Tsung.

When the younger Sub-Zero demands to face Scorpion, he is instead forced into a duel with Reptile, and emerges victorious against the reptilian ninja. Reptile then appears during the Earthrealm invasion, scaling a building which police officers Kurtis Stryker and Kabal are on top of. Reptile dodges all of the bullets fired at him, and spits acid at Kabal, incapacitating him. Stryker then battles Reptile and defeats him. After losing to Stryker, he is not seen again.

Mortal Kombat X Comic
Reptile was ordered by Shao Kahn to participate in Shang Tsung's tournament in Earthrealm, the emperor expressing doubts over the sorcerer's true intentions. Reptile believed he was to only spy on Shang Tsung but Shao Kahn ordered him to do whatever he must to ensure Outworld's victory. Though Reptile intended not to compete, he dreamed of winning and possibly discovering a way to bring his people back. Unfortunately for Reptile, he lost his first match against Johnny Cage and continued to lose after.

Reptile was no longer welcome in the emperor's presence for his failures and the spy understand what that meant and began sleeping with one eye open. Reptile's concerns proved true as he sensed the presence of an assassin in his chambers one night, the Osh-Tek warrior Kotal. However, Kotal chose not to kill Reptile that night and instead left.

The next day, Reptile was invited to the throne by Shao Kahn, who introduced him to his new commander, Kotal. As the emperor expressed his reservations about Kotal's decision, Reptile knelt before his new commander, never letting on he knew his commander had very nearly killed him the night before.

Kotal would earn Reptile's genuine loyalty and respect, and when Kotal declared his coup d'etat against Mileena, Reptile was by his side and took a blow from Mileena's sai to protect his leader.

Reptile is first seen in Raiden's vision, standing close to Kotal Kahn and Ferra & Torr.

Reptile is seen again, watching Kotal give a speech to the inhabitants of Outworld, and standing by D'Vorah and Erron Black.

Reptile is still close to his emperor's side after Kotal declares to the Outworld inhabitants his father, Kotal K'etz's, mission to hunt down the traitors to the empire. Reptile accompanies K'etz and a band of warriors to the Golden Desert to face Reiko and Mileena. Reptile witnesses clouds suddenly block out the sun and is visibly surprised and he soon after witnesses the Red Dragon's slaughter of their forces and Goro's betrayal and execution of Kotal K'etz.

Reptile survives and escapes, informing Kotal Kahn of his father's death and Goro's betrayal, as well as the Red Dragon's involvement.

Reptile is revealed to have followed Kotal Kahn to the Golden Desert, using his invisibility not just to hide himself, but D'Vorah and Ferra & Torr as well, before attacking the Red Dragon mercenaries after Kotal defeats and humiliates Goro in single kombat. Later, after burning their hideout to the ground, Reptile informs Kotal of Mileena's and Reiko's escape.

Reptile is the first to come Kotal Kahn's defense after the emperor is shot by Sonya Blade. Enraged at Sonya's accusation that Kotal kidnapped her daughter, Reptile attempts to strike her with his tongue, but the organ is caught by Johnny Cage, who defuses the situation. After it's determined that Erron Black was working with the Black Dragon to kidnap Cassie, and not following Kotal's orders, the emperor orders Reptile and D'Vorah to take Sonya and Johnny to the northern trade route where Erron Black is.

Reptile accompanies the Special Forces into the Outworld jungles, following behind D'Vorah and Sonya Blade. Reptile is unamused when Johnny Cage tries to bet with him over which of the two will snap first, though the saurian is soon shocked when they discover Erron Black's bloody and beaten form tied to a tree top. Reptile is silent as Black tells what happened between the Black and Red Dragon clans as well as the kidnapped girls locations.

Reptile stands by the emperor along with the rest of his chosen warriors as Kotal Kahn reprimands Erron Black for his actions. After this, Reptile is ordered along with D'Vorah to take Black back to his prison cell.

Reptile is at Kotal Kahn's side as the emperor observes the Shokan and Oni Warlord hordes outside of Z'unkahrah's walls. After D'Vorah and Ferra and Torr depart to parlay with the Kintaro, Reptile informs his emperor that their warriors will be ready no matter the outcome and tells Kotal that the Earthrealmers are proving useful after his emperor asks.

During the final battle of the Shokan siege, Reptile saves D'Vorah's life when she is nearly attacked from behind by a Shokan, snapping its neck while invisible before losing his camouflage. He tells D'Vorah they must regroup with Ferra and Torr when the duo are knocked across the battlefield, unconscious, and Reptile and D'Vorah are confronted by a monstrous mutant Oni Warlord with two heads.

Reptile is injured by the beast before it is ultimately killed by D'Vorah and Kotal Kahn kills King Gorbak. Reptile is carried by D'Vorah over to Kotal Kahn after the Shokan retreat and the emperor orders him taken to the infirmary to be treated along with the rest of the wounded.

As Kotal Kahn observed the ruined capitol of Z'unkahrah, reminiscing of the promise he had made to the people of Outworld's empire, declaring he will die as his duty to protect them, Reptile reveals he knew Kotal was the one assigned to kill him for failing Shao Kahn so many times in the past. Reptile asks why Kotal spared him, and after Kotal tells him that his skills as a spy were too valuable to throw away in death matches, Reptile says that Kotal saw value where Shao Kahn had not.

Reptile tries to tell his emperor that his life has value even without his family, but Kotal refuses to listen. After each of Kotal's warriors relate their own tales to the Kahn, the capitol suddenly shakes fiercely and Reptile witnesses the arrival of the Black Dragon warriors.

Reptile returns when he is brought by D'Vorah to Shang Tsung's Island by D'Vorah with the Portal Stone, joining with several other Outworld warriors in confronting Havik's Blood Code enslaved fighters. Reptile battles Mileena, spitting acid at her.

Reptile soon finds himself being bitten on the neck by Mileena and overpowered, only saved from death when Havik's hold on the fighters through the Blood Code is broken. Reptile is seen with D'Vorah and Kotal Kahn afterwards, with the emperor standing close to his most loyal follower.

Mortal Kombat X
Five years before the story, Reptile seems to be the first ally to Kotal Kahn, and the two approach D'Vorah asking her to assist them in overthrowing the Empress Mileena. Moments later, Mileena, Ermac, Baraka and several Tarkartan soldiers enter the room and confront the trio, accusing them of treason and sedition. Reptile then reveals to the room that he saw how Mileena was constructed in Shang Tsung's Flesh Pits and is not actually Shao Kahn's daughter, and is therefore not the rightful heir to the throne. Outraged by Reptile's outburst, Mileena orders her men to kill the usurpers. However, Ermac soon betrays Mileena and joins the usurpers. After D'Vorah kills Baraka and the rest defeat the other Tarkartans, Kotal orders Mileena to be locked up and thus begins his reign as the new emperor of Outworld.

Reptile, along with Erron Black and Ermac, is next seen investigating the bodies left by D'Vorah after she betrayed Outworld by stealing Shinnok's amulet. Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs, Takeda Takahashi, and Kung Jin escaped captivity but are quickly located by Reptile's superior smelling senses. The Earthrealmers begin an ambush, as Cassie and Jacqui fight Erron and Ermac, Takeda begins kombat with Reptile who uses his invisibility to fight him, but Takeda uses his telepathy to locate him before he strikes. Reptile and his comrades are then incapacitated by the Earthrealmers.

The three go to Kotal Kahn and report that D'Vorah is gone with the amulet and they believe that she is also working with Earthrealm. Furious with this news, Kahn declares war on Earthrealm and tells his men to ready the army.

Kotal Kahn, Reptile, Ermac, Ferra/Torr, and Erron Black then lead dozens of soldiers through a portal to Earthrealm and meet up with the four Earthrealmers who happened to crash land in that area. The Earthrealmers run away from the army and ambush the Outworld Army.

Reptile quickly dodges most of the attacks and climbs the trees and pounces on Jacqui. Takeda attempts to stop him, but Reptile ends up spitting his acid in his face, temporarily blinding him. Jacqui breaks free of Reptile's grasp and defeats him. However the Earthrealmers are overrun by the superior number of the Outworld army. Kotal Kahn announces that he shall have their heads as a peace treaty for Shinnok to spare Outworld. All of a sudden, the Lin Kuei led by Sub-Zero attack the army, allowing the four teammates to escape. The fate of Reptile and the rest of his companions is unknown after this, but it is likely that they escaped back to Outworld.

Mortal Kombat 1
Syzoth is unique among his Zaterrans in that he possesses a shapeshifting ability that allows him to take human form. This only served to make him an outcast to his people, so Syzoth departed the underground Zikandur province in search of a more acceptable life. Unfortunately, the warm-blooded Outworlders on the surface were no less welcoming, and Syzoth became destitute. Joining a traveling carnival to desperately alleviate his poverty, Syzoth was able to make somewhat of a living for himself, even finding a family. At some point, he would cross paths with Shang Tsung, then a simple trader. But when Shang began to learn legitimate sorcery, he asked to study Syzoth, and took his family hostage when the Zaterran refused. Becoming the sorcerer's laboratory slave quickly proved to be an even worse job, and Syzoth was forced to aid in countless, terrifying experiments. It was suggested that Shang Tsung derived his trademark shapeshifting from Syzoth's own mutation.

Syzoth is formally introduced during the Story Mode when Johnny Cage, Baraka, Kenshi and Kung Lao are all captured in a botched attempt to rescue Princess Mileena from Shang Tsung's clutches. The four are sent to Shang Tsung's real laboratory, where Syzoth is revealed to be their jailer. Offering Kenshi a special balm to dull the pain from the loss of his eyes, he reveals to the group both his Zaterran ethnicity and his reluctant participation in Shang Tsung's scheme. Despite their pleas, Syzoth tells them the choice is between them and his family, and orders a group of cloned, subservient Tarkatans to put them in separate chambers. While Baraka and Kung Lao are preoccupied fighting them, Syzoth activates a device that strikes the captured Johnny Cage and Kenshi with electricity. After defeating a Super Tarkatan, Baraka is able to free both Earthrealmers and subsequently defeat Syzoth. Syzoth begs to be killed, but Baraka spares him, noting that had he been put in the same predicament, he would have done the same to protect his family.

Shang Tsung appears and scolds Syzoth for allowing Liu Kang's champions to break free, blasting Baraka and Johnny back with a cloud of toxic gas that quickly fills the laboratory. Bidding them all farewell, he reveals to Syzoth that he had already disposed of his wife and son "many moons ago", striking the Zaterran with the knowledge that he had been pointlessly slaving away to save loved ones that had long since been murdered. Furious, Syzoth attempts to grab Shang Tsung, but the sorcerer teleports away on the spot before he can reach him. The group attempts to leave, but Syzoth realizes Shang Tsung sealed the exits upon releasing the gas. With his superhuman strength, Baraka is able to break the door down, allowing them to escape the wretched laboratory.

Once outside, the Earthrealmers are intent on reaching Sun Do to bring Kenshi back to Earthrealm. While Baraka cannot enter the city, Syzoth offers to make amends by taking them rest of the way. The group travels through the Living Forest, where Baraka reveals its nature as chock-full of souls. Syzoth mentions there are no Zaterran spirits since his people's mistreatment by Outworld's surface dwellers had them live underground in Zikandur. Kung Lao questions how he encountered Shang Tsung, so Syzoth elaborates on his previous life, explaining how his shapeshifting made him an outcast and how Shang Tsung blackmailed him into allowing him to be studied. Additionally, he confirms Shang Tsung's plotting with General Shao and Rain, though he mentions he has only heard fragments of their schemes.

The group encounters Ashrah, a heroic demon of the Netherrealm, and after a misunderstood battle, join forces with her and change directives to finding an Outworlder named Quan Chi, as his association with Shang Tsung could possibly lead them to the sorcerer. Along the way, Syzoth eats a flying insect with earnest, much to Johnny's disgust. Meanwhile, Ashrah explains how she was set on her path to purification, and reveals both Quan Chi and Shang Tsung have an unknown common benefactor who taught them how to wield the powerful magic they are capable of.

Eventually, Syzoth and the others stumble upon Quan Chi and his cohorts and attempt to prevent the former from using one of his soul stealers. While Nitara, Darrius, Sareena and Havik hold the heroes off, Quan Chi succeeds in draining the Living Forest of its souls and amalgamating them into a single body - Ermac, who quickly begins dominating the heroes in kombat. Using his natural form, Syzoth is the only one who manages to land an attack, but is subsequently overpowered by a telekinetic blast like the others. He is able to recover and joins Ashrah in battle against Havik and Darrius, then Quan Chi, but Ermac continues to prove problematic, launching a tree trunk with telekinesis to smack Syzoth and Baraka into the dirt. Fortunately, Kenshi steps up to save them, having discovered Sento's true nature, and uses Sento to overpower Ermac with Ashrah's help. Ashrah is able to destroy the soul stealer, releasing the captured spirits, one of which grabs Quan Chi and drains him of energy, causing his skin to turn white and knocking him out. With the battle won, the group settles on returning to Earthrealm with the captured Quan Chi so Liu Kang can question him.

The group arrives in Sun Do during the nighttime festival. While the others disguise themselves (and the unconscious Quan Chi) as partygoers, Syzoth surveys the grounds from the rooftops, taking note of the large security numbers. He tells the others to go to the stage, then through the portal gate to Earthrealm to the right, while he creates a diversion. Kenshi warns him that Syzoth will also be looked out for, but Syzoth tells him that to catch him, they must see him, and reveals his invisibility on the spot, earning a "Damn!" from an impressed Johnny, who likens his technique to "going full Predator", along with Kenshi giving out a smile to show him impressed.

While the disguised group traverses the festival grounds, Syzoth activates several of the rockets, sending the public into a panic. General Shao spots him atop one of the buildings, deducing that his presence means the Earthrealmers are also nearby, and so Reiko and Li Mei chase after the Zaterran. Reiko tags him with a shuriken, causing Syzoth to fall to the floor, though he recovers and turns invisible again, leaving trails of green blood in his path. Eventually, Li Mei and Reiko catch up to Syzoth, but he resists arrests, knowing he will be executed by General Shao despite Li Mei offering to hear him out. With support from Kenshi, Syzoth regretfully defeats the pair before being attacked by Kitana, Tanya and Khameleon. Knowing he has no time to explain himself, Syzoth defeats them as well. As Johnny's group is surrounded by Generao Shao and his guards (Quan Chi escaping in the confrontation), Syzoth and Kenshi heroically swing down from a rooftop to aid them. Syzoth personally confronts Shao, threatening to reveal his conspiracy to all of Outworld, but Shao disagrees, claiming that dead men tell no tales. Despite this, Syzoth proves victorious, and he and the others make a break for the portal as Motaro and more guards close in (Johnny sucker punching Goro on the way).

Upon entering Earthrealm, they are greeted by Liu Kang, who reveals he already knows Ashrah and Syzoth's names. Ashrah then asks if Liu Kang knows Quan Chi, who has partnered with Shang Tsung. Expressing striking concern at the prospect of a new Deadly Alliance, Liu Kang urged them to come with him and recount their experiences.

Various versions and amalgamations of Syzoth/Reptile also appear in the second Battle of Armageddon at the climax of the story, including a Titan one who joins forces with Titan Shang Tsung, a female version of Reptile, a Sindel with Zaterran physiology called Lizard Queen, a combination with Geras called Klockodile, and many more. Additionally, another version of Syzoth can be selected as the final warrior who aids Liu Kang in defeating the Titans Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, before being sent back to his respective timeline.

Equipment

  • Kunai: The Kunai is a harpoon-like weapon used by Reptile as he was a recolored ninja using Scorpion's moveset.
  • Battle Axe: A Battle Axe is an axe specifically designed for combat. Battle axes were specialized versions of utility axes. Many were suitable for use in one hand, while others were larger and were deployed two-handed. In its most common form, it is an arm-length weapon held in one or both hands. Compared to a sword swing, it delivers more cleaving power against a smaller target area, making it more effective against armor, due to concentrating more of its weight in the axehead. However, it allows much less precision than a sword does. The Battle Axe in the Mortal Kombat series appears to be double-bitted/bladed. The weapon is used by the Raptor Reptile in Mortal Kombat 4.
  • Kirehashi: The Kirehashi is an ancient blade and a lost relic with a connection to the Saurian race. The Vampire Nitara gives the Kirehashi to Reptile, who wields it in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

Notable Techniques

*Hung Gar: Hung Gar is a Chinese martial art classified as Nanquan Kung Fu. Hung Gar is used by Reptile as his primary fighting style in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Hung Gar, or 'Tiger Fist,' is the merging of Southern Shaolin fighting styles of Chinese kung fu. It is based on the movements of animals, such as the tiger and the crane.

  • Crab: Crab is a fighting style used by Reptile in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. As implied by its name, its movements are primarily performed by imitating the movements and walking style of a crab.
  • Pao Chui: Pao Chui is a fighting style used by Reptile in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
  • Leopard: Leopard is one of the Five Animal styles of Chinese Kung Fu. Reptile utilizes this in Mortal Kombat 1.

*Acid Spit: Reptile removes his mask and spits acid at the opponent. Sometimes, the jet of acid spit would hinder the opponent for a very short time as the steam from the acid burns away at the opponent's skin. In Mortal Kombat II to Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, it appears as a thick jet spit of acid. In Mortal Kombat 4, it appears as a stream of acid bubbles and in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance onwards, a ball of acid. In Mortal Kombat 1, Reptile tranforms his upper body into its Zaterran form and spits out a jet of acid.

  • Acid Stream: In Mortal Kombat (2011), the enhanced version is called Acid Stream. Reptile spews a stream of acid.
  • Acid Puddle: In Mortal Kombat X, the enhanced version is called Acid Puddle. Reptile spews acid in front of himself to form a puddle of it. The opponent will take damage over time as long as they stand on it. If the opponent touches the puddle while sprinting towards Reptile, their sprint will be interrupted.
  • Power Slide: Reptile slides across the floor to the enemy, hitting them and sending them flying into the air. In Mortal Kombat (2011) and Mortal Kombat X, Reptile secretes a trail of slime when he slides similar to the ice trail the one Sub-Zero leaves when he does. In Mortal Kombat (2011) and Mortal Kombat X this is called Slide. In Mortal Kombat 1, it's part of the Slip-N-Died kombo.
    • Slime Trail: In Mortal Kombat (2011), the enhanced version is called Slime Trail. Reptile slides at a further distance and will hit the airborne opponent with two kicks.
    • Slippery Slide: In Mortal Kombat X, the enhanced version is called Slippery Slide, has armor, activates slightly faster and has Reptile recover from the attack quicker but becomes more vulnerable if the attack is blocked.
  • Chameleon: Reptile disappears or reappears in a puff of smoke. In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Reptile could not reappear unless he was hit. In Armageddon, Reptile can still turn invisible, though his weapon will remain visible. In Mortal Kombat (2011) this is called Invisibility and grants a small damage boost to any attack landed under this status, although his body will still distort the light and denote his position. In Mortal Kombat X, this is called Stealth and will make him partially invisible, like in Mortal Kombat (2011), or completely invisible, if the button is held down for some time. Both in Mortal Kombat (2011) and Mortal Kombat X, hitting him will turn him visible again, even if he blocks the attack. In Mortal Kombat X, he takes no damage from getting knocked out of being invisible. In Mortal Kombat 1, it is called Invisibility, and Reptile covers himself in green acid that after a second turns him invisible.
    • Vanish: In Mortal Kombat (2011), the enhanced version is called Vanish. Reptile will turn completely invisible, leaving no light distortion to help determine where he is as well as a better damage boost.
    • Invisibility: In Mortal Kombat X, the enhanced version is called Invisibility. He will turn completely invisible instantly, without the need of the button being held down, which can also be used to extend his current combo when timed right.
  • Running Serpent: Reptile swiftly runs behind the opponent and delivers a successful elbow into their face. In Mortal Kombat (2011), this is called Elbow Dash. In Mortal Kombat X, it is called Reptilian Dash, which has Reptile leave a slime trail behind as he charges and strike the enemy with a punch, and not an elbow, to knock them back. In Mortal Kombat 1, it's called Dash Attack, and Reptile tranforms into his Zaterran form and knocks down the opponent with a claw spine after running past them.
    • Reptilian Elbow: In Mortal Kombat (2011), the enhanced version is called Reptilian Elbow. Reptile follows up with an uppercut that knocks his opponent down.
    • Reptilian Smash: In Mortal Kombat X, the enhanced version is called Reptilian Smash. Reptile follows up with an uppercut that knocks the opponent in the air, allowing for a juggle.
  • Slow Force Ball: Reptile projects a green ball of energy or acid that slowly moves toward the opponent. When it hits the opponent, he/she is propelled toward Reptile. In Mortal Kombat X, it is called Slow Forceball and Reptile is vulnerable when creating the Forceball. In Mortal Kombat 1, the projectile explodes near Reptile.
    • Slow Mega Ball: In Mortal Kombat (2011), the enhanced version is called Slow Mega Ball. The size of the ball is larger, causes more damage, and travels slower.
    • Creeping Slimeball: In Mortal Kombat X, the enhanced version is called Creeping Slimeball, which travels much slower than the original one. Both the Slow Forceball and the Creeping Slimeball can also be enhanced into a Floating Ball after they've been fired. This will stop them in place at any point of the arena, where they'll will stay for some moments to block the opponent's way. Should the opponent make contract with the floating ball, they will be launched in the air for a juggle.
  • Fast Force Ball: A faster version of the Slow Force Ball. In Mortal Kombat X, this is simply called Forceball. In Mortal Kombat X, Reptile is vulnerable when creating the Force Ball. In Mortal Kombat 1, the projectile travels the full-screen distance.
    • Fast Mega Ball: In Mortal Kombat (2011), the enhanced version is called Fast Mega Ball. The size of the ball is larger, it travels faster, and causes more damage.
    • Fast Slimeball: In Mortal Kombat X, the enhanced version is called Fast Slimeball, which travels even faster than the normal version. As with the slow variant, both the Fast Forceball and the Fast Slimeball can be enhanced into a Floating Ball after they've been fired. This will stop them in place at any point of the arena, where they'll will stay for some moments to block the opponent's way. Should the opponent make contract with the floating ball, they will be launched in the air for a juggle.
  • Acid Hand: Reptile creates a Force Ball in his hand and spins it toward the opponent, knocking them back.
    • Reptilian Hand: The enhanced version is called Reptilian Hand. The attack will send the opponent skyward, but decreases in damage.
  • Dash Punch: Reptile slides and punches the opponent.
  • Super Crawl: Reptile crawls under the opponent's feet, knocking them over.
  • Rolling Spikes: Reptile curls himself up into a ball and rolls forward, knocking the opponent off of his/her feet.
  • Klaw Pounce: Reptile leaps and slashes his opponent with both claws to knock them back. This was once a combo ender in Mortal Kombat (2011). In Mortal Kombat X, the attack can be used at different distances, called Close/Far Klaw Pounce, respectively. If timed right, he can also avoid certain projectiles by going above them with this attack's leap.
    • Klaw Bounce: The enhanced version is called Klaw Bounce, which has armor and increased damage. As with the original version, the attack can be used at different distances, called Close/Far Klaw Bounce, respectively.
  • Klaw Swipe: Reptile swipes one of his claws at the opponent to knock them down.
    • Klaw Slash: The enhanced version is called Klaw Slash, which activates slightly faster and launches the opponent into the air for a juggle, however, it deals no extra damage.
  • Basilisk: Reptile concentrates for a moment, allowing him to move at greater speeds than his opponent. During this time, Reptile can perform combos that he otherwise would not be able to perform by increasing the juggle effect of all his combos and special attacks. Additionally during this time, all of Reptile's attacks deal 20% less damage and his ability to block attacks is disable. If Reptile is attacked during this time, or he connects his Throw or X-Ray attacks, the effect ends prematurely.
    • Basilisk Runner: The enhanced version is called Basilisk Runner, which has Reptile recover faster from the attack, allowing him to continue combos in some instances unlike the original version.
  • Poison Gas: Reptile increases the size and density of the noxious gas cloud he has around him, which causes it to do more damage more quickly and at a wider area for some time.
    • Toxic Fumes: The enhanced version is called Toxic Fumes, which inflicts twice the damage of Poison Gas and forms an even greater poison cloud.
  • Death Roll: Reptile transforms into his Zaterran form and pounces forward, attempting to grab the opponent. If he's successful, he bites down on their leg and spins them around, slamming them into the ground twice. The enhanced version has a faster start-up and deals more damage.
  • Falling Fangs: In mid-air, Reptile disappears and then drops down in front of the opponent, slamming them down with a claw swipe. It has a Close variation, where Reptile doesn't appear above the opponent and re-appear in his original position. The enhanced version deals more damage.

*X-Ray - Tricky Lizard: Reptile jabs a clawed finger into the opponent's eye, then snaps their neck turning them around. As they try to recover, he kicks them in the chest, breaking their ribs while sending them backwards.

  • X-Ray - Reptile Disfunction: Reptile charges the opponent to grab their head and dislocate their jaw, then gouges their eyes with his claws before crushing the opponent's skull into the ground, cracking it and further damaging the jaw. When used in the corner of an arena, Reptile is offered an extremely small window of an additional attack. Reptile can delay the activation, effectively turning himself invisible before charging. Reptile can also cancel the attack doing this, allowing him to move around and perform combos while invisible. Taking damage removes the invisibility. Just like his Stealth ability, Reptile takes no damage from getting hit out of being invisible.
  • Fatal Blow - The Beast Unleashed: Reptile turns into his reptilian form and grabs the opponent by the leg with his tail and slams them once on each side of him, with the second slam bouncing the opponent up into the air. Reptile then uses his tongue to grab them by the neck and pulls the opponent into his mouth, and chomps, destroying the ribs. He then spits them back out.

  • *Spear: Sending out a rope with a tipped Kunai at the end, it impales itself into the victim's chest, allowing Reptile to pull him or her through the air towards him for a free hit, as well as cause a small bit of damage. This move was borrowed from Scorpion. Reptile only uses the move in Mortal Kombat (2011) during a secret battle when playing an arcade ladder and encountering Klassic Reptile.

    • Iceball: Reptile sends a blast of ice directly towards the opponent to temporarily freeze them in place for a free hit. He could also freeze opponents in midair, if timed correctly. This move was borrowed from Sub-Zero. Reptile only uses this move in Mortal Kombat (2011) during a secret battle when playing an arcade ladder and encountering Klassic Reptile.
    • Teleport Punch: Reptile teleports behind the opponent and connects with a flying punch to the back of the head. This move is borrowed from Scorpion.
    • Suplex Throw: Reptile grabs his foe, proceeds to roll backwards, brings up a leg as in a monkey flip and launches the foe halfway across the area. He then does a kip-up.
    • Neck Snap: Reptile forces his foe to their knees and grabs them in a reverse headlock, where he wrenches their head quickly to one side.
    • Throw (Mortal Kombat (2011))
      • Foward Throw: Reptile grabs his opponent, climbs onto their back, then either flips backwards smashing them.
      • Backwards Throw: Reptile creates a Force Ball behind their head that explodes, knocking them to the ground.
    • Throw (Mortal Kombat X): Reptile tosses his foe in the air to catch their ankles with his tongue, hanging them upside down in front of himself. While holding them like this, he slashes them twice with his claws and then releases them to knock them away with a punch before they reach the floor.
    • Slithering Slam: Reptile lunges his arm forwards, jabbing the opponent in the chest, then grabs them and proceeds to puke acid in their face before slamming them down on the ground. This combo can be enhanced before Reptile spits acid, which will have him slam the opponent instantly, but this time bouncing them off the floor and allowing a juggle.
    • Swamp Slam: Reptile lunges his arm forwards, jabbing the opponent in the chest twice, then grabs them and proceeds to puke acid in their face before slamming them down on the ground. This combo can be enhanced before Reptile spits acid, which will have him slam the opponent instantly, but this time bouncing them off the floor and allowing a juggle.
    • Noxious Cloud: A passive bonus in which the opponent takes minor damage-over-time so long as they remain close to Reptile.
    • Puny Human: Reptile grabs his opponent and assumes his Zaterran form, violently slamming them into the ground three times and tossing them to the other side.

*Acid Wash: Reptile performs an Acid Spit that forms a large acid patch around the opponent's nose and mouth, causing them to suffocate.

    • Heart Attack: Reptile performs a Tongue Slap that rips out the opponent's heart and flings it into the air while also puncturing a hole in the opponent's chest. As the heart is flung into the air, Reptile quickly snags it with his tongue and eats it whole.
    • Puke: Reptile performs either his Slithering Slam or Swamp Slam combo, only this time, when he pukes the acid in their face, their face melts off before he slams them on the ground.
    • Knee Kapper: Reptile performs either a Basilisk or Basilisk Runner, then performs a Slippery Slide, charging through and completely destroying the opponent's legs from the knees down in the process.
    • Bo Dash: Reptile performs either a Poison Gas or Toxic Fumes, then performs a Reptilian Smash, only when he comes back around, he uppercuts the opponent's head off instead of knocking them into the air.
    • Bubble Head: Reptile performs an Acid Spit attack, only instead of suffocating them, the acid expands into a bubble, encasing the opponent's head the acid bubble as it hits their mouth, separating their head from the body, and while the latter collapses, the bubble will float in place with the severed head inside it, rotating the head.
    • Bubble Burst: Reptile performs his Bubble Head Brutality, only while the head is rotating inside the bubble, the head explodes, changing the acid ball with their blood.
    • Get Rektile: While invisible, whether from completely performing a Stealth, activating Invisibility or cancelling a delayed X-Ray, Reptile performs his uppercut, bisecting the opponent's upper body off at the waist.
    • The Klassic: Reptile performs an uppercut in his reptilian form, decapitating the opponent with a rising uppercut with their spine still attached. This Brutality is shared with every character.
    • Damn Tasty!: Reptile performs his Puny Human throw and bites off his opponent's arm, devouring it, before taking another chunk of flesh from their torso and rubbing his stomach.
    • Ready to Pounce: Reptile performs a charged Devastating Blow and tears the opponent's arms off with his claws.
    • Behind You: Reptile performs a Dash Attack and turns invisible. As the opponent looks around in confusion, he tears them in half.
    • Krockodile Done Right: Reptile performs a Death Roll, but instead of spinning the opponent, he presses their arms to the ground and bites into their chest, eating their internal organs.
    • Pop Belly: Reptile performs Visceral Klaw kombo and melts the opponent's mid-section with his claw, leaving only the spine.

*Spine Rip: Reptile rips off the opponent´s head, with their spine still attached. Since Reptile had the exact same moves as Scorpion and Sub-Zero in the first Mortal Kombat, he gained the Fatalities from both.

    • Toasty!: Another borrowed Fatality, where he takes off his mask, revealing a flaming skull underneath the mask, and breathes fire on the opponent, who is reduced to a skeleton. Since he is a palette swap of Scorpion he is able to do this Fatality.
    • Tasty Meal: Reptile takes off his mask, revealing a reptilian face. He then opens his mouth and stretches out his long tongue, sticking it to his victim's head, then quickly retracts it, ripping off the head and eating it. Reptile then rubs his blood covered stomach, giving a satisfied "Mmmm..." noise.
    • Inviso-Slice: Reptile must be invisible to use this. His foe is very quickly ripped completely in half, with Reptile reappearing shortly afterward. How this is done is not precisely explained.
    • Acid Puke: Reptile gets close to the victim, opens his mouth, and spews acid over them, melting them down to a sizzling puddle. In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, he regurgitates acid on the victim's body from the head top, while in Mortal Kombat 4, he sprays acid bubbles from the same position, but inexplicably gains levitation powers while doing so, as the bubbles literally peel away at the skin and flesh of the opponent, leaving behind a bloody corpse.
    • Extra Meal: Reptile takes his Tasty Meal Fatality further by proceeding to eat the torso and upper legs too.
    • Face Chew: As the name implies, Reptile hops on the opponent's legs and shoulders and proceeds to savagely eat the opponent's face, leaving behind chunks of blood in the process. Once done, he jumps off and wipes away some of the blood on his face while the opponent staggers back in pain before plummeting to the ground as some leftover blood spills on the floor, showing a close up of the victim's now-mutilated head.
    • Acidic Meal: Reptile spews acid on the victim's head, reducing it to a skull. He then promptly eats it with his long tongue.
    • Acid Yak: Reptile forces his opponent's mouth open, then vomits acid directly into it. In Mortal Kombat (2011), he plunges his hand into his opponent's body and rips out their mutilated stomach, leaving a gaping, bloody hole in their abdomen. If this Fatality is input in his Klassic Costume, he will take off his mask and snarl at the screen before proceeding with the Fatality.
    • Weight Loss: Reptile turns invisible and slits the opponent's throat and stomach, causing blood to spew out. He then plants an Acid Force Ball deep into the gap of the opponent's stomach, causing their upper body to explode in a few seconds. He then hisses in delight.
    • Bad Breath: Reptile spits acid into his opponent's face, melting it, he then runs up to his opponent, grabs their head, and splits it into two halves.
    • Acid Bath: Reptile vomits a puddle of acid under the opponent's feet, melting them slowly in the process. After the legs are completely molten, Reptile proceeds by extending his tongue around the opponent's head before ripping it off and eating it. The body continues to melt, leaving the opponent's twitching hand visible.
    • Indigestion: Reptile transforms into his reptilian form, then runs towards the opponent before turning invisible, leaving the opponent confused. Suddenly, a loud crunch is heard and blood gushes everywhere. Reptile turns visible again, revealing to have chomped down on the opponent's head from behind. He lifts them up and swallows them whole. Afterwards, he regurgitates the opponent, covered in acid and the lower half of their body missing. As the opponent slowly dissolves, they try to crawl away but one of their arms explode. Reptile approaches the opponent and smashes their head with the palm of his hand.
    • Acid Reflux: Reptile transforms into his reptilian form and uses his tongue to strangle the opponent, his acidic saliva melting the opponent's skin. Melting the opponent's neck and hands, which fall off, Reptile snaps his tongue, sending the opponent's severed head into the air. He catches it in his mouth and crushes it, blood and acid everywhere. Reptile wipes his mouth as the opponent's body falls.

*Animality: Scary Monkey: Reptile turns into a chimpanzee. The chimp then chases the opponent off-screen. It's unknown what he'll do next to his opponent.

    • Friendship #1: Reptile Doll Sale: Reptile pulls out a Reptile Doll and a message appears on screen saying "Buy a Reptile Doll."
    • Friendship #2: Snake-in-the-Box: Reptile winds up a box and a giant snake head erupts out of the box which scares Reptile's opponent.
    • Babality: Reptile can turn his opponent into a baby.

    Other

Standard Tactics: Reptile will incorporate different martial arts technique along with his weapons and using his invisibility along with his acid attacks.

    Weaknesses: Nothing notable.

Note: The power of the Blaze is not a universal amplification for every character, with characters having varying power increases such as increasing their power exponentially[99], "a thousand-fold"[100], tenfold[101], etcetera. As the Blaze's power is mainly based on making one's desires surface, the user isn't given the same amplfiication as others, thus the user can reach "Up to" Universe levels of power with it, but isn't automatically at this level just because they have the power of Blaze.

Note 2: It is noted by Ed Boon that characters surviving fatal blows and X-Rays are purely an in-game only thing and that in cutscene only characters like Raiden could survive a bullet to the head.

    Trivia

    • The SNES version of Mortal Kombat was updated with Reptile in mind. Players only had to achieve a Double Flawless Victory to face him, and his name was used for the health bar instead of Scorpion's. This version also fixed the 10 million bonus bug (mentioned below).
    • He and Kano are the only characters from the first Mortal Kombat game who don't appear in the animated movie Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins.
    • In the first two Mortal Kombat games, Reptile bled red blood like the other characters. In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy however, he bled green blood, although this is presumed this was put in due to his reptilian nature, the physical complications are off. In Mortal Kombat 4/Gold, his blood was turned back to normal red. In Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, his blood was turned back to green, although broken body stubs would appear red. His technical appearance as Onaga in Mortal Kombat: Deception, he bled red blood again. In Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, he bleeds red blood. Reptile bleeds green blood once again in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, although he bleeds red blood when he falls victim to a death trap. In Mortal Kombat (2011), he bleeds green blood, but when his Fatality is full green. In his Klassic costume his blood is green but his innards and organs are red. His innards are red from Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 to Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and blue in Mortal Kombat (2011).
    • Like Baraka, in the short-film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, Reptile has a different origin. Instead of being a Saurian from Zaterra, Reptile is a human cannibalistic mass murderer from Earthrealm, born with his eyes inside-out due to a condition called harlequin ichthyosis. He also murders his victims by ripping their head off, but with his hands instead of his tongue. He stores the heads in a refrigerator until he is hungry and eats them piece by piece, unlike him in the games, where he devours the heads directly. He is also mentioned to be 30 years old in the movie.
    • So far, there's been only 4 games where Reptile doesn't make a playable appearance not counting updates, ports and spin-offs. Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat: Deception, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and Mortal Kombat 11.
    • He, Scorpion and Sub-Zero share their Friendship in Mortal Kombat II, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
    • In the game Skullgirls Encore, the character Fukua has a color palette that is based off of Reptile's colors. This is one of her three color palettes referencing Mortal Kombat, the other two being Ermac and Rain.
    • Reptile is one of the few characters to fight with bare feet. Others include Sheeva, Goro, Baraka, Kintaro, Drahmin, Moloch, Kobra, Meat, and Blaze.
    • Reptile appears as the first secret character in the series, as well as the first secret character in fighting game history.
    • Reptile's appearance was conceived as a fusion of both Scorpion and the original Sub-Zero, hence his ability to use both other moves and combos.
    • In the Arcade, Sega Genesis, and Sega CD versions of the first Mortal Kombat, the game recommend the player to win two perfect victories along with a Fatality without ever using block whenever they see a shadow flying in front of the moon at the Pit stage in one player mode. If done successfully the player would get an opportunity to fight the secret character Reptile: a combined version of Scorpion and Sub-Zero. In the Super NES version, the game doesn't required players to look at the moon for a shadow to do this, they would fight Reptile regardless of any shadow. If the player defeat Reptile with a Fatality, they would be awarded a score of 10,000,000 bonus points.
    • In the original arcade version of Mortal Kombat, as well as the Sega Genesis and Sega CD port, when the player fought Reptile, the name in the health bar said 'Scorpion', this was fixed in the Super NES version.
    • Due to an in-game bug (specifically, an error in the in game's assembly instruction), in the arcade version of the game, beating Reptile as player 1 in the original Mortal Kombat will only award 2 million points instead of 10 million. Many ports of the game retain this bug; the SNES version, being updated with Reptile in mind, fixed this bug.
    • Reptile makes his playable debut in this game, becoming a main roster character while Jade takes on his role as an unplayable secret character.
    • Reptile is the default choice for Player 2, as opposed to the default choice of Liu Kang.
      • He would take on this trait again in Mortal Kombat 4, opposite Kai.
    • For some odd reason, performing Reptile's "Tasty Meal" Fatality in the arcade version of Mortal Kombat II on the Armory stage causes the floor to randomly slide to the left until the end of the victory screen. Only the floor will be moving, Reptile and his newly dead opponent do not move in the direction of the floor despite them being on top of it. This does not occur in the console ports.
    • Reptile's head was treated as a separate sprite, so his face appeared while invisible if he performed the Acid Spit move. This is also seen if he's frozen by Sub-Zero mid-Spit.
    • In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for the iPod, there is a glitch where he eats his opponent's head from the opposite direction.
    • Khameleon was created to expand on Reptile's origins in Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Said to be the other last remnant of Reptile's race, her only similarity to him was that she was a palette swapped ninja.
    • While Reptile's Mortal Kombat 4 bio states that he was banished to the Netherrealm for committing genocide on other species, the Mortal Kombat 4 comic shows Sindel (reclaiming her role as Edenia's Queen) banishing Reptile to the Cobalt Mines of Shokan for his crimes against Edenia. This is of note because until that point, the Cobalt Mines of Shokan had only been mentioned in Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins and Mortal Kombat: Conquest. They have, so far, never appeared in any of the games.
    • Although Reptile had a new, non-ninja design in Mortal Kombat 4, a Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3-style ninja outfit could be unlocked for him. The outfit is a green recolor of Scorpion's Mortal Kombat 4 design down to the skull mask and skull buckle, but lacks a loincloth due to his normal costume's model lacking the necessary geometry to create it. In addition, Reptile retains his new scale-covered skin rather than using the fake human skin used previously. He will also not remove the mask for Fatalities.
    • This game introduced the biggest appearance change for Reptile, giving him a more reptilian based appearance rather than a humanoid.
    • His alternate bio presents his first costume, and vice-versa.
    • When Liu Kang or Kung Lao find Reptile on the Pit in Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, they refer him as "another servant of Shang Tsung", however, he will reply "I do not serve Shang Tsung". However, his Mortal Kombat II bio states he is Shang Tsung's protector and he does serve the sorcerer.
    • Reptile was incorrectly called "Lizard" on the rental cases for Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks at Blockbuster.
    • He is one of three characters in Armageddon to bleed green blood.
    • He was the only fighter from the previous two games that received a new costume and character model for Armageddon, due to considerable fan demand for his Shaolin Monks design.
    • When selecting his Klassic outfit, he regains his human appearance, however his skin has a hue of green and he has yellow eyes.
    • Fighting him will unlock The "Pit Master" achievement and trophy in Mortal Kombat (2011).
    • Reptile is one of the only five characters whose Victory Pose breaks the 4th wall. The others being Sub-Zero, Cyrax, Freddy Krueger and Mileena.
    • Reptile is one of six characters able to do an X-Ray that hits the opponent three times, the others being Noob, Raiden, Kano, Stryker and Kintaro.
    • In Challenge #227 of the Challenge Tower, he wears the armor of Unit 5 and appears to be a green palette swap of Cyber Sub-Zero.
    • He doesn't speak in Mortal Kombat (2011), barring roars and snarls. He does however whisper inaudibly to Shang Tsung in the Story Mode.
    • If his Fatality Acid Yak is used on himself, his stomach is revealed to be blue.
    • Reptile has the ability to create a green smoke wall from his breath in the Story Mode. This is never used in gameplay, however.
    • When challenging Klassic Reptile, he will use Scorpion and Sub-Zero's Spear and Ice Ball attacks, respectively, during gameplay.
    • It is revealed in an interaction with Raiden that Reptile's real name is Syzoth.
    • Reptile, along with Raiden and Sub-Zero, have the weakest X-Rays, dealing only 31% damage.
    • Reptile's Klassic Outfit is the only Klassic ninja outfit with a different mask.
      • He and Sub-Zero are the only Klassic ninjas who can remove their mask with the outfit equipped, this being based on which variation is selected.
      • It is also the only outfit that he is not barefooted.
    • Reptile's Kraken outfit is the only one to feature a different mask.
    • Reptile and Scorpion are the only characters in Mortal Kombat X that can cause damage-over-time effects that come from the fighter themselves. This is only achievable through the Noxious Variation for Reptile and the Hellfire Variation for Scorpion.
    • Unlike in Mortal Kombat (2011), Reptile retains his reptilian appearance with his Klassic outfit equipped in Mortal Kombat X.
    • Reptile's Klassic Card is the second Diamond card not achieved from a game mode rather than a Tower or from Card Packs, the first being Shao Kahn's Konqurer card.
      • Klassic Reptile can also appear in packs designated for Outworld and Klassic cards.
    • Reptile's Klassic Card is the second card in the mobile version of Mortal Kombat to grant immunity for an entire class of card, granting immunity to Poison for Outworlders. The first was Kenshi in his Elder God Kenshi card, granting immunity to critical damage for all Elder God teammates.
    • Reptile's X-Ray attack is renamed to Extinction Event in this game and is the only X-Ray that grants Regeneration.
      • Sub-Zero's Mortal Kombat 11 card's Fatal Blow was also renamed for the mobile game.
    • In the DC fighting game Injustice 2, although he is not mentioned by Sub-Zero or Raiden who are featured as playable guest characters, Reptile is referenced as one of Sub-Zero's shaders, a green shader called Secret Kombatants.
    • Reptile makes a few cameo appearances. The first being in the Krypt, his appearance being unaltered from his Mortal Kombat X appearance and another when Shang Tsung morphs into him during gameplay using his Slide ability and changing into him at the end of a round. The design he has here is also seen as an NPC in one of Rain's fatalities, alongside Smoke and Ermac.
      • In a later update, Scorpion received the "Deadly Hybrid" and "Stinging Bite" skins, which recolor his Klassic ninja skin to resemble Reptile, down to adding scaly skin.
    • This marks the first time since Trilogy where his human form is his primary appearance.
      • While his human form did appear in Shaolin Monks and Mortal Kombat (2011), these were alternate outfits for the character.
    • Characters often calls Reptile by his real name, Syzoth in both story mode and gameplay interactions.
    • Reptile's ability to shift between the forms seems to be a reference to Kiri and Ankha from Mortal Kombat Conquest, who could similarly shift between lizard and human form.
    • If the player choose him with Johnny Cage as an announcer, he will call him as Slither in, a reference to a Slytherin House in Harry Potter franchise which also represents a reptilian snake motif.
    • Reptile seems to be the only character so far who knows Havik's real name; Dairou.
