Capture Styler

- Description: A Capture Styler (Japanese: キャプチャー・スタイラー Capture Styler) is a device invented by Professor Hastings and used by Pokémon Rangers. It allows them to temporarily take command of wild Pokémon and it also has built-in phone capabilities. It is similar to a remote-controlled toy top.
- Usage: Used to capture wild Pokémon. Other functions include the Ranger Browser, the Ranger's equivalent to the Pokédex, the Glossary, the save function (only available when near a save machine), and the retire option, allowing a complete restart of the mission the Ranger is currently on.
- Function: A spinning, top-like device called a Capture Disc is launched which is controlled from the main device. As the Capture Disc of the Styler loops around a wild Pokémon, it leaves a trail of beams that transmits friendship to the wild Pokémon. This will make the wild Pokémon more inclined to help the Pokémon Ranger. If the beams are broken by Pokémon attacks, the Capture Styler may take damage or even break. The Styler can level up and gain more energy with use.
Capture Disc

- Description: The Capture Disc is launched by a Capture Styler so that the Ranger may befriend the Pokémon. It may gain power-ups like Poké Assists and Power Charges.
- Usage: Used to befriend Pokémon.
- Function: No function details provided.
School Styler

- Description: The School Styler is given to students of the Ranger School, known as Student Rangers. It was developed to teach Student Rangers how to perform the basic tasks of a Pokémon Ranger.
- Usage: Used to teach Student Rangers.

Fine Styler

- Description: Once an Area Ranger becomes a Top Ranger, they receive the Fine Styler.

Vatonage Styler
- Description: A one-of-a-kind Styler, the Vatonage Styler is used as part of Operation Brighton.
- Usage: Used to befriend a Pokémon under hypnosis.
- Function: This Styler allows a Ranger to befriend a Pokémon under hypnosis, unlike previous Stylers. It is a Fine Styler powered up with shards from the Tears of Princes. Getting power from the actual Gems themselves allows this Styler to befriend even Pokémon who have closed up their minds.
Guardian Signs Styler

- Description: In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, a new type of Styler is introduced. This Styler is designed similarly to a watch. Unlike other Stylers, it lacks a name.
- Usage: Used to capture Pokémon. It also has a Voice Nav. that will advise the player from time to time throughout their adventure.
- Function: Like the Fine Styler, it possesses the Power Charge ability. It seems to have a personality of its own, first shown during Nema's upgrades to it, and last shown when it broke the fourth wall near the end of the Heatran Mission. This Styler, due to Nema's upgrade, is capable of utilizing Ranger Signs. After seeing a sign, the Voice Nav. will tell the player to record the sign into the Styler and from then on, the Styler can use Ranger Signs to call on Pokémon.
Voice Navigator

The Capture Line is the trail left behind by a Capture Disc, used to capture Pokémon. Each loop, called a Capture Line loop, increases the friendship conveyed to the Pokémon.
In Pokémon Ranger, forming a loop around a Pokémon displays a number above it, indicating how many loops are required for capture. If the line is broken or the stylus is lifted from the screen, all loops must be remade from the start.
In Shadows of Almia and Guardian Signs, a bar below the Pokémon indicates how much more friendship must be conveyed. Requirements vary between Pokémon. In certain Guardian Signs captures, a Pokémon may enter a rage mode where its bar turns red and the Styler conveys only 10% of its friendship points until the Pokémon calms down.
Poké Assists can aid in capture. All Pokémon lose friendship points over time during a battle.
Poké Assists
During a capture, a Ranger may receive help from Partner or Friend Pokémon. Help obtained this way is called a Poké Assist.
To use a Poké Assist, a Ranger touches the Poké Assist button at the bottom right of the Touch Screen. A list of Friend Pokémon is displayed, and a ranger selects the desired Pokémon and slides it to the location where it should use its Poké Assist before lifting the stylus. The Friend Pokémon takes no damage until the stylus is lifted. The Poké Assist Recharge speed varies depending on where the Pokémon is placed. The action can be cancelled before the stylus is lifted by moving the Pokémon over the Poké Assist button and releasing.
A Poké Assist alone cannot capture a Pokémon, regardless of how many times it is used; loops must still be drawn to complete the capture. A Friend Pokémon will be released if hit by an attack during its Poké Assist. Once the assist concludes, the Pokémon returns from the field and can only be used again after its gauge refills on the Friend Pokémon list.
Poké Assist Matchups
All Pokémon are classified by group, such as Grass, Water, or Fire. A Pokémon's group can be determined by selecting it with the stylus in the field. Pokémon groups and Poké Assists are nearly identical, so the Poké Assist button usually indicates which group a Pokémon belongs to. All Pokémon with the Poké Assist "Recharge" belong to the Electric group.
Depending on how a Poké Assist matches up with the targeted Pokémon's group, its performance varies. Arrows indicating matchup strength appear when the Poké Assist button is touched to display the Friend Pokémon list. A blue arrow indicates the Poké Assist has an advantage, while a red arrow indicates a disadvantage.
Field Moves
Field Moves are special moves Pokémon can use outside of battles in Pokémon Ranger, Shadows of Almia, and Guardian Signs.
In Guardian Signs, Field Moves can be combined with other Pokémon's Field Moves to clear targets. The Field Moves are identical to those in Shadows of Almia.
Other
Standard Tactics: Rangers utilize their partner Pokémon along with befriended wild Pokémon to solve puzzles, using the ones that best fit the situation.
Weaknesses
- Ranger Weaknesses
- Ranger Code: Rangers cannot take captured Pokémon with them unless they have a compelling reason[29]. Rangers aren't allowed to take Pokémon out of their natural habitats[29].
- Capture Styler Weaknesses: If the capture stylus is lifted before finishing the capture, the attempt will fail[29]. If their Capture line touches the Pokémon it will break[29]. Pokémon can also attack the capture line[29], damaging it and making the styler lose some of its energy[29]. If the styler's energy hits zero, a Ranger can no longer do their job[29]. The Capture Styler can only befriend up to 8 Pokémon at a time, needing to release one if another one gets captured[15]. If the Capture Styler breaks[81] all the wild Pokémon will flee[81]. Improper charging can damage the Capture Styler[82].
- Air Mask Weaknesses: The Air Mask has a limited supply of oxygen, so the rangers cannot stay in the water indefinitely[83].
- Technique Weaknesses
- Poké Assist Weaknesses: If the wild Pokémon is hit during a Poké Assist, they will be released[84]. A Pokémon cannot be captured by Poké Assists alone, no matter how much the feelings of friendship are conveyed[84].
- Field Move Weaknesses: When a Wild Pokémon uses a field move, they will be auto-released[85].
- Pokémon Weaknesses
- Standard Pokémon Weaknesses: Pokémon being greatly angered causes them to be confused[86]. The usage of struggle makes the Pokémon take recoil damage, even if they've barely damaged an opponent[54]. Pokémon become too scared to move when dealing with an entity[87] that cannot be ID'd[87]. One Hit KO Moves do not work if the opponent is higher leveled[88]. Startling a Pokémon in the middle of its evolution will cause it to not evolve[89].
- Type Weaknesses
- Normal Type Weaknesses: Normal Type attacks aren't very effective on rock types and steel types and have no effect on ghost types. As a normal type, it is weak to fighting type attacks.
- Fire Type Weaknesses: Fire Type attacks aren't very effective on other fire types, water types, rock types, and dragon types. As a fire type it is weak to water type attacks, ground type attacks, and rock type attacks.

Codex Statistics Questions
Q: Shouldn't end game Pokémon scale to Groudon raising the continents?
A: This is further elaborated on in more modern Pokedex entries that it used magma to do so and by evaporating the water, if you want to argue the Pokedex entires contradict each other, we have Team Rainbow Rocket, a segment based off what if timelines where the villains won, Maxie directly notes that he will use Groudon to do this exact thing of shrinking the oceans to raise the lands[90]. So this would be through abilities and not Attack Potency.
Q: Shouldn't at least late game Pokémon get Faster Than Light due to being able to dodge solar beam?
A: Solar beam is absorbing light and then shooting out a blast, it is not a light speed attack but an energy blast that absorbs light energy. On top of this, Pokémon cannot dodge this move without lowering the opponents accuracy or raising their own speed. Dazzling Gleam is a flash of light that is also 100% accuracy. Flash which is a literal flash of light is 100% accuracy. So it's clear light speed attacks are generally unmissable unless their accuracy drop or a character ups their speed to make it harder to tag them. Further examples of them not being this speed, Dragonite is pretty consistently stated in its pokedex as an impressive speed feat for it to circle the globe in 16 hours, and Garchomp is treated as impressive for being able to keep up with planes and fly at sonic speeds.

Junichi Masuda: We created Platinum with a new method of determining the game's direction that was based on the image of one Pokémon - Giratina. When I imagined Giratina, the idea of a "reversed world" came to my mind. I thought of concepts such as "E=mc2" and matter and antimatter. There is no top or bottom, no left or right. We increased the number of developers for Diamond and Pearl, so we wanted to clarify the game concepts for the team before we started the project Its better to hammer out the overall vision of the game first, and then all the team members will work towards that vision by throwing out ideas. The concept of "ultimate" was what we started out with for this title." - ↑ 43.0 43.1 Pokémon Ranger Guardian Signs Mt. Sorbet Red Eyes Boss
