Scholars can usually leave their names in history with one great achievement. Herta, however, had countless achievements, and that was why she received the glance of Nous and became a member of the Genius Society.

All members of the Genius Society are oddballs, and Herta is no exception. Her scholarship is entirely driven by interest. If she lost interest halfway through a project, she would instantly discard all her work. Therefore, multiple topics that could have made critical advancements to civilization were stopped because they were "not interesting." Even though the Intelligentsia Guild had obtained her manuscripts after great difficulty, they often could do nothing to further progress the studies.

However, Herta nowadays seems to have expanded her interests a little. She has started to contact the Interastral Peace Corporation, has helped the Xianzhou chase off abominations, and even has had some friction with the Garden of Recollection... She is already very sociable compared to the other odd hermits of the Genius Society. Who knows what else she might take an interest in? Maybe she doesn't even know herself.

~ Herta's character description in the Data Bank

Background

Herta is a playable character in Honkai: Star Rail.

Herta Space Station's true master. As the human with the highest IQ on The Blue, she only does what she's interested in, dropping whatever project immediately the moment she loses interest - the best example being the space station.

She typically appears in the form of a remote-controlled puppet.

"It's about seventy percent similar to how I looked as a child." ~Herta

Lore

Herta space station's true master. As the human with the highest IQ on the Blue, she only does what she's interested in, dropping projects the moment she loses interest — the best example being the space station. She typically appears in the form of a remote-controlled puppet. "It's about seventy percent similar to how I looked as a child." — Herta

Madam Herta's manuscripts are extremely valuable assets.

Its core rarity is not in how Madam Herta rarely pens to paper, but because to a genius like her, nothing is ever worth recording.

Scientific research that would take normal researchers ten years — or even a lifetime — to achieve may be able to shed light on an entirely new domain of research, but they are to Herta as ordinary as turning on a LED light. Who would waste time trying to systematically record such trivial matters?

It's not just Madam Herta — any documentation written by a Genius Society member is a priceless treasure. However, Herta is more generous and more understanding toward normal people like us. She leaves her handwritten drafts behind in random places around the space station with as much generosity as she allows researchers to study the Curios she collected.

Of course, we all firmly understand that Madam Herta isn't being lazy and just discarding incomplete drafts around the place. It's so she can claim to investors with plausible deniability that "I've finished writing that paper, but can't find it anywhere."

Everybody knows that qualifying as a researcher on the Herta space station [sic] is a cherished goal of the wider scientific community. Today, we're interviewing its owner, Madam Herta. First of all, can you please tell us what was your motivation for setting up a scientific research oasis like this?

"I have so much stuff, and nowhere to put it."

Ah, truly an unforeseen outcome! Even unintentional acts from the brilliant Madam Herta can benefit millions of ordinary people. However, evil will always strive in vain to destroy such a wondrous place. Madam Herta, what are your thoughts about the Antimatter Legion's last invasion?

"Don't come back."

Oh... such a severe warning. This must form an indispensable part of Madam Herta's illustrious achievements. The mere Antimatter Legion dares to invade this space station — but you don't even deserve Madam Herta's attention! Let's move on to the next question, then!

Recent research progress on the space station has been hampered by the impact of the accident. Several researchers have been blaming themselves for betraying Madam Herta's trust and preference. May I ask: Do you have anything you'd like to say to everyone?

"Nope. Keep up the great work."

Everyone wishes to contribute to your scientific research, Madam Herta...

"No thanks."

Indeed, no researcher could ever hope to match Madam Herta's scientific ability, which is why we're deeply impressed by your wisdom and insights. Could you please tell us, Madam Herta, whether you have any research recommendations for everyone? We'd love to learn from you!

"No."

Madam Herta, your intellect and talents are obvious to all, but normal people like us could never hope to be like you... Could you please give us any pointers, such as in what domain we might devote our limited cognitive resources to?

"You should go home and sleep."

Madam Herta, you are so considerate. Indeed, the research that Genius Society members conduct are so complex that ordinary people may not even be able to understand the papers' titles. So, let's talk about something else: The space station is filled with your loyal supporters. Everyone is curious about your personal situation. For example, the manuscript that you're writing — when are you planning on publishing the latest chapter?

"I don't think it really matters, but more importantly — Elias Salas once said that the most challenging thing of all is self-improvement. So, let's examine this question more carefully: When writing a paper, the key question is how to write that paper —"

Um... err... I see. But Madam Herta, we all love your book How I Joined the Genius Society...

"I don't think it really matters, but more importantly — Zandar once said that even those who have made it to the top still need to practice self-improvement. So, let's examine this question more carefully: When considering joining the Genius Society, the question is how does one go about joining the Genius Society —"

Are you in... auto-answering mode?

"I don't think it really matters, but more importantly — Yu Qingtu once said that being an academic is a matter of ambition. So, let's examine this question more carefully: When considering what is called auto-answering mode, the question is how to automate the answers —"

Codex Statistics

Tier: 4-B

Cardinality: Finite

Dimensionality: 3-D

Attack Potency: Solar System level (Potency) (Directly noted by Silver Wolf that Herta is an Emanator of Nous the Erudition[18], who are pathriders granted power directly by the Aeons[19], which should put her comparable to the likes of The Trailblazer, who fought and defeated Phantylia, who can casually "crush" one with the weight of a star, causing a massive explosion, along with greatly dwarfing the planet in size[20]. Noted that due to her power, the space station had rarely experienced a real crisis[21] and Dan Heng, who was noted in Part III of Himeko's character story that he defeated monsters that can swallow stars in just one strike of his lance[22]. All party members are relative to The Trailblazer, even if they haven't been in main story missions, as their data versions can fight with them in the Simulated Universe, which is generated from The Trailblazer's memories pre-loading data versions of all the people they've met [23], where the bosses are stronger and more powerful in the Simulated Universe then the actual bosses they fought)

Durability: Solar System level (Comparable to the Astral Express Crew, who can tank a star destruction at point-blank range[24], which reaches these levels of energy)

Striking Strength: Unknown: True Class (Herta uses her hammer for attacks)

Lifting Strength: At least Superhuman (Can casually swing around and spin her hammer that's larger then her own body, can hit down a diamond this gigantic)

Travel Speed: Superhuman (All playable characters can outrun the Abundance Sprite: Golden Hound, who is noted to be a gilded hunting hound that moves with grace and speed[25], where the fastest hounds travel at a speed of 45 mph)

Attack Speed: Massively Hypersonic (Comparable to The Trailblazer who is comparable to Seele[26], who could cut a bullet right before it reached Bronya[27], reaching these speeds, and move faster then Bronya's gun[28]. Can fight against Kafka, who in her ultimate views all of the bullets as stationary, reaching these speeds. Comparable to Fu Xuan, who viewed Kafka's bullets as moving so slow she can casually turn them around to hit each other reaching these speeds), likely Far Higher (Comparable to The Trailblazer, Can dodge iridescent beams from Mask of No Thoughts from a distance[29])

Reaction Speed: Massively Hypersonic, likely Far Higher

Stamina: Limitless (Herta utilizes remote-controlled puppets that exist all over the station that she can connect to whenever she needs[30], thus not requiring any real stamina)

Range: Standard Melee, Extended Melee with Hammer, Tens of Meters with Ultimate (Creates a gigantic ice to slam on all enemies[31])

Intelligence: Supergenius Intelligence

Herta is a member of the genius society[32], and an Emanator of Nous the Erudition, with Silver Wolf noting she can probably age herself backward if she wanted[33]. Compared to scholars who can usually leave their names in history with one great achievement, Herta has had countless achievements, being the very reason she received a glance of Nous, the Aeon of Erudition[34], who stays in the corner of the cosmos, working out the equations of the universe made up of trillions of variable sand deriving the unknown laws of imaginary numbers. Herta made her space station to try and set her sites on the unexplained existences of the cosmos to satisfy her curiosity[35]. People not a part of the Genius Society have done things like recreate someone's memories an consciousness into an android that fully believed they were an actual person and that they were human, where even the most advanced diagnostic equipment couldn't detect the difference between her and a real person[36].
Herta created item number 211, "Blind Spot", a simple light-deflecting field that allows an object in its field to pass unnoticed[37]. Herta can make holograms with an added layer that sends one into a completely different room[38]. She is one of the four geniuses that worked to create a program that contains an entire universe just like the universe they live in but more streamlined and customized[39], which can form and simulate an entire universe from someone's memories[40]. Her part of the project is being responsible for providing the venue, personnel, resources, and adding some interesting systems to the project.

Knowledge: Grandmaster level

Noted that Herta could have made critical advancements to civilization if she didn't lose interest and dropped all of her research halfway through a project, with even the Intelligentsia Guild having obtained her manuscripts being unable to further progress in any of her studies. Members of the Genius Society view the Intelligentsia Guild as the "mediocre", not being considered amongst the cream of the crop[41]. Members of the Genius Society are sent a signal by the Aeon of Erudition, inviting geniuses to join in the search for answers to the universe, where Nous views mortals that have created a priceless asset of civilization with their diligence and wisdom as mere insignificant achievements not worthy of his glance, to truly join the genius society itself, one needs to acknowledge the conclusion that "the answer to the universe is beyond the limits of mortal wisdom"[42]. Herta considers a list of remembering over a thousand items a quick read[43].

Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Aura (All characters that use ultimates have a massive aura around themself), Time Paradox Immunity (Grandfather Paradox; All party members can take hits from "Past Confined and Caged", a being bound by Order and performing scenes of the "Past". All party members can take hits from "Tomorrow in Harmonious Chords", a being bound by Order and performing scenes of the "Future"[50], in which the Order directly interferes with beings and changes them, conducting hymns that can rehsape the world and create new laws[51]), Statistics Reduction (Breaking an enemy's weakness reduces their toughness to zero[52]), Restoration (Characters basic attacks recover skill stamina[53]), Observation (Unconscious Manifestation; In Honkai: Star Rail all of the world is born from mind and soul, with that power being memory[54], with the Garden of Recollection believing the world is defined by everyone's perception and memories are proof of the world's existence. The cognition from the fragments of the subconsciousness in the Memory Zone created various enemies imbued with a specific cogniton from the subconscious[55]), Immortality (Immortal Metaphysical Aspect; Characters in Star Rail can forgot their physical bodies, and still exist, this is mainly shown with Memokeepers that follow the Path of Rememberance, sacrificing their wordly bodies allow them to traverse the universe in the form of memes[56], with these memetic entities possessing no moral flesh, unconstrained by physical limits being made purley of ideas and memories[57], with memes themself being an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture. Noted by a Garden of Recollection Member that even if all matter is annihilated, it can continue to live on in the form of memories[58]. Reliance [On Memories]; To prevent oneself from being forgotten from the world, one makes the world remember them, if they are forgotten then they use their memories to re-create the world[59]), Non-Standard Interaction (Metaphysical Interaction; All characters are able to interact with Wubbaboos, a subspecies of Astral Spirits, that exist in the form of spiritual entites[60]. Conceptual Interaction; All characters are able to interact with memory bubbles bubbles made by the Garden of Recollection to preserve memories in a bubble to carry around, which are referred to as concepts by Memokeepers like Black Swan. Can fight enemies in the Forgotten Hall who are composed of memories[61]), Imaginary Energy Manipulation (All paths originate and are formed from imaginary elements with it being philisophical concepts and a metaphysical aggregation of spirit), Reality Warping (All paths originate and are formed from imaginary elements, where imaginary power allows one to twist reality at will[62]), Velocity Manipulation (All ultimates allows a character to attack even in the middle of an enemies turn[63], with it being directly noted that ultimates are not affected by Action Order[64]), Information Analysis (All playable characters can view an enemy's weakness type by approaching them[65]), Immortality Negation (Unknown Type) & Immutability Negation (All party members are able to permanently kill Mara-Struck Soldiers who are soldiers of the Xiahnzhou fallen to madness, having their bodies continually grow and mutate[66], with the Xianzhou being immortals where their body is stuck within a fixed state where even if they were born blind and find a way to cure themself, they will eventually revert back to being blind[67]. Along with this, immortality and resurrection is seen as a mere status effect within Honkai: Star Rail as characters like Pela can debuff the Mara-Struck Soldiers ability to revive themself making it where they die that the Mara-Struck does not heal them as opposed to the other soldier who wasn't debuffed).

Resistance to Ice Manipulation & Extreme Colds (All party members can interact with and take hits fom Frostspawn without freezing, where its data file notes that it is in the form of eerily low temperatures, freezing everything around it[68]. All party members can break out of being frozen), Fire Manipulation & Extreme Heats (All party members can interact with and take hits from the Flamespawn, not taking any burn status effect from it, where its data file notes that it is emitting intense heat, burning everything in its path[69]. All party members can fight within Sam's Secondary Combustion zone, which burns anyone trying to use a skill. All party members can interact with and take fire based hits from Blaze Out of Space, where it's armor is noted to burn with the burning flames in the core of stars[70], which is about 15 million degrees celcius[71], it is also noted in the data entry that it incinerates anything it touches[72]), Air Manipulation (All party members can interact with the Windspawn, not taking any wind shear status effect from it, where its data file notes that it is engulfed in twisting winds, raging on like a tornado[73]. Party members are able to take the effects of wind shear, with it eventually going away), Electricity Manipulation (All party members can interact with the Thunderspawn, not taking any shock status effect from it, where its data file notes its brimming with electricity, releasing thunderclaps in all directions[74]. The Fragmentum continues to corrode bodies even after death[83], ), Reality Warping (All party members can take hits from the Imaginary Weaver, where they use their imaginary power to twist reality at will[84]), Mind Manipulation, Metaphysical Manipulation, Conceptual Manipulation & Information Manipulation (Total; All Party members are able to travel around in the Fragmentum and are unaffected by the Fragmentum corrosion, where the Stellaron and Fragmentum are the cause of relics a construct made from a data stream that are objects corroded by the Fragmentum whose data is saved and then reconstructed. All party members can take hits from different paths, where all paths originate and are formed from imaginary elements with it being philisophical concepts and a metaphysical aggregation of spirit, party members can also take hits from memory based beings along with chracters that can interact with memories, which are referred to as concepts by Memokeepers like Black Swan. All party members can take hits from Cocolia, Mother of Deception, where it's noted in her data entry that the she is a singer able to control Imaginary Energy[85]. Souls within the series are something carries information[86], along with being the data of one's consciousness, thus standard attacks to one's soul would not be enough to affect them), Law Manipulation (All party members can be hit by the hymns conducted without any adverse effects, where the conducting hymns can rehsape the world and create new laws[87])
All characters have Effect RES (Effect Resistance), which increases resistances, allowing them to resist things they normally cannot which includes: Resistance to Status Effect Inducement & Statistics Reduction (All characters have Effect RES (Effect Resistance), which increases resistances against incoming debuffs, allowing them to resist various status effects), Empathic Manipulation (As all characters have effect resistance which allows them to resist debuffs, such as outrage, which causes one to lose all reason and attack aimlessly), Sleep Manipulation (As all characters have effect resistance which allows them to resist debuffs, such as alien dream that puts a target to sleep), Domination (As all characters have effect resistance which allows them to resist debuffs, such as spirit whisper, that allows Kafka to dominate and control the target), Absorption (As all characters have effect resistance which allows them to resist debuffs, such as Black Prana's Snare, which siphons one's health, cutting it in half), Ice Manipulation (As all characters have effect resistance which allows them to resist debuffs, which include being frozen), Fire Manipulation ((As all characters have effect resistance which allows them to resist debuffs, which includes the burn status effect), Air Manipulation (As all characters have effect resistance which allows them to resist debuffs, which would include wind shear), Electricity Manipulation (As all characters have effect resistance which allows them to resist debuffs, which includes the shock status from lightning damage), Bleeding (As all characters have effect resistance which allows them to resist debuffs, which would include bleed damage), Imaginary Energy Manipulation (As all characters have effect resistance which allows them to resist debuffs, which would include being imprisoned within imaginary energy), Quantum Manipulation (As all characters have effect resistance which allows them to resist debuffs, which would include being put in quantum entanglement[88])

An Instant Before A Gaze

''He once heard a ballad, singing in praise of that sliver of light:

Rose blooms, to answer THEIR smile. Dawn shines, to illuminate THEIR visage. Melody plays, to banish THEIR fatigue.

But, light, once gone, never returns. Yet, he still gallops to the far beyond. All that is needed is to wait for, to believe in, and to preach about everything that is of the Beauty in this cosmos. Even if everything is but a fleeting instant before a gaze, he has already found the answer he sought.''

The general of the Cloud Knights listens to his subordinates' words with eyes half-closed. "History will make its own judgment, but I have no interest in my legacy." "If I succeed, history will state that I am currently supremely confident in my masterful strategy." "But if I fail, then history will state that I am currently neglecting my duties in wanton pleasure, preferring finches over my people."

A finch jumps down from his shoulder, and he extends his hand to catch the small creature. "I have simply made my own decision."

Explanations

Paths

The paths that Star Rail characters have in game are not the actual paths they follow, there is an innate difference between using the abilities of a path and being a Pathriders of that path[112] being apart of different factions[113]. For example, March 7th is listed under the Path of Preservation[114], though she is apart of the Trailblaze path as a member of the Astral Express[115], one does not necessarily need to be in a path to us their abilities either, the Trailblazer while they were trying to protect March 7th from the Doomsday Beast, created a forcefield[116], despite using abilities from Destruction[117]. Thus the path one has in game mainly refers to their abilities and not the actual path they follow, this applies with Light Cones too.

  77. Stars are of course sources of visible light, but they also emit UV, X-ray, and even gamma-ray light. The emission of stellar radiation depends on their surface temperature and also on their activity. Therefore, emission is related to the evolution and spectral type of the star and it can be highly variable
