“
And we will be there to stop you. You can bet on that.
Nathan Graves is the son of two powerful vampire hunters, who several years prior, had been slain in a battle against Count Dracula. A man who fought alongside the two and was the one to finally slay Dracula, Morris Baldwin, ended up adopting Nathan into his family and trained him alongside his own son, Hugh Baldwin.
Nathan and Hugh would grow up to be rivals, and would both contend with one another over who should inherit the Hunter Whip from Morris; with Hugh always coming out on top. During their coming of age ceremony, to Hugh’s shock, Nathan was chosen to hold the Hunter Whip.
Many years later, Nathan and the Baldwin’s found out that a woman named Camilla resurrected Count Dracula during an arcane ceremony. The three hunters travelled to the newly-recovered Dracula’s Castle, only to have Morris be kidnapped and Nathan and Hugh cast aside. Hugh instructed Nathan to go home and leave things to him, although Nathan refused and traversed Dracula’s Castle on his own.
As Nathan continued fighting his way through Dracula’s Castle, he came to the terrible truth that Hugh was manipulated by darkness into siding with Count Dracula. Nathan, having gained immense power on his quest through the Castle, was able to defeat Hugh and make him come to his senses.
At last, Nathan was able to make it into Dracula’s throne room and confront the Dark Lord himself. While Hugh rescued Morris and got him to safety, he entrusted Nathan to fighting Dracula. Much to the Dark Lord’s surprise, Nathan was able to strike him down and claim victory.
Nathan fled from Dracula’s Castle as it crumbled behind him, and made his way back to Morris and Hugh. With Morris able to recover his strength, Hugh and Nathan reconciled for their biter rivalry and became friends at last.

Notable Techniques
Item Crashes
Item Crashes are a technique utilized by Nathan that allow him to use special attacks with his sub-weapons. Performing an item crash takes more hearts then normally taken from the subweapon however in return the attack is capable of killing most enemies and greatly reducing a boss' health.
The item crashes are as follow:
Pluto + Salamander (No Subweapon)
Nathan leaps into the air and summons 128 stars, each one as strong as a strike from his whip. This is the strongest Item Crush Nathan has. 100 Hearts.
Thousand Edge
Nathan shoots 64 spears, an attack which is approximately as strong as 10% (22% in Shooter Mode) of his whip. He can switch his vision while continuing the Item Crush. During this period, he is invulnerable. 20 Hearts.
Spiral Axe
Nathan leaps into the air and throws eight spinning axes, which is as strong as 79% (158% in Shooter Mode) of his whip. 8 Hearts.
Hydro Storm
For 8.5 seconds, Nathan summons a rain of holy water which damages the enemy by 22% (39% in Shooter Mode) of his damage by whip. The rain hits all enemies approximately once every second. 20 Hearts.
Holy Cross
Nathan leaps into the air and casts a pillar of light surrounded by spinning crosses. It damages the enemy at 100% (198% in Shooter Mode) of his damage by whip. 15 Hearts.
Clock
Nathan summons four golden clocks which affect enemies more than a normal clock, and damages the enemy by throwing all clocks after the countdown reaches 0. The damage is as strong as Nathan's whip. 40 Hearts.
DSS Combinations
DSS Combinations are potent abilities available to Nathan Graves in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon through the Dual Set-Up System. Activating each combination requires one Action Card and one Attribute Card. Below is a list detailing the effects of all 100 possible combinations.
These abilities involve imbuing the Hunter Whip with various elemental powers.
Dual Set-Up System Combination: Mercury
Salamander
Name
Fire Whip
Description
"Fire whip to attack enemies."
Effect
Increases Nathan's strength by 5% and deals Fire damage. If a monster is very close to Nathan, it suffers roughly 50% more damage. 6 MP per use.
Serpent
Name
Ice Whip
Description
"Ice whip. Frozen enemies can be used as platforms."
Effect
This will decrease Nathan's strength by 29% and lessen the whip's range, but in return, his attack speed is noticeably increased. The whip deals Ice damage while this combo is in effect. Once a monster takes a hit that would otherwise kill it, it becomes frozen, and it can be stood upon as a platform if desired. Otherwise, Nathan simply needs to hit the monster one more time to kill it. This affliction is not permanent, however, and the monster will break after a few seconds. 2 MP per use.
Mandragora
Name
Whip of Thorns
Description
"Whip of Thorns to attack enemies."
Effect
Increases Nathan's strength by 10% and deals Plant damage. 6 MP per use.
Golem
Name
Earth Whip
Description
"Earth whip to attack distant enemies."
Effect
Increases the whip's range, but attacks slower. Deals Earth damage. 8 MP per use.
Cockatrice
Name
Stone Whip
Description
"Stone Whip. Enemies turned to stone can be used as platforms."
Effect
Increases Nathan's strength by 10% and deals Stone damage, but slightly slows his attack speed. Once a monster takes a hit that would otherwise kill it, it becomes petrified, and it can be stood upon as a platform if desired. Otherwise, Nathan simply needs to hit the monster one more time to kill it. Whatever the situation calls for, however, it must be done quickly; if Nathan is not quick enough, the monster will break free of its affliction. 6 MP per use.
Manticore
Name
Poison Whip
Description
"Poison whip that will release a mist of poison."
Effect
Decreases Nathan's strength by 11% and deals Poison damage. The whip is swung upward, and the ensuing clouds of poison deal minor damage for a few seconds. 6 MP per use.
Griffin
Name
Wind Whip
Description
"Wind whip. Continuous attack will occur while attack is held."
Effect
Decreases Nathan's strength by 13% and deals Wind damage. When the whip is held out, it strikes constantly instead of being spun around. 10 MP per use.
Thunderbird
Name
Electric Whip
Description
"Electric whip. Will electrocute while attack is held."
Effect
When the whip is held out, it deals constant Electricity damage instead of being spun. The damage dealt from keeping the whip out weakens the longer it is held out, however. 10 MP per use. In addition, the Hunter's Whip is slightly faster and has a slightly longer reach.
Unicorn
Name
Holy Whip
Description
"Holy whip. Health is replenished with each swing of the whip."
Effect
Increases Nathan's strength by 22% and deals Holy damage. Restores 1% of Nathan's HP with every swing. 20 MP per use.
Black Dog
Name
Darkness Whip
Description
"Darkness whip to attack and envelop enemies in darkness."
Effect
Increases Nathan's strength by 41% and deals darkness damage. Clouds of darkness will continue to deal damage a few seconds after being struck. Nathan's whip is somewhat slower (but not as slow as the Earth Whip). 40 MP per use.
Most effects of Venus boost Nathan's base stats.
Dual Set-Up System Combination: Venus
Salamander
Name
STR Boost
Description
"Inflicted damage increases by 25%."
Effect
Increases strength by 12% (in order to reach 25% damage boost, since the STR is squared). 4 MP per second.
Serpent
Name
DEF Boost
Description
"Defense increases by 25%."
Effect
Increases defense by 25%. 4 MP per second.
Mandragora
Name
LCK Boost
Description
"Luck increases by 25%."
Effect
Increases luck by 25%. 4 MP per second.
Golem
Name
Exploration DEF Boost
Description
"Defense increases as the % of the map uncovered increases."
Effect
Increases defense based on the amount of the map uncovered. 16 MP per second.
Cockatrice
Name
Walking EXP
Description
"Gains experience points from walking."
Effect
Gain 1 experience point roughly every three steps walking. Not running. 2 MP per second.
Manticore
Name
Double Hearts
Description
"Gains double the amount of hearts received."
Effect
Doubles the amount of hearts recovered per pickup. Small hearts restore 2, large hearts restore 10. 2 MP per second.
Griffin
Name
INT Boost
Description
"Intelligence increases by 25%."
Effect
Increases intelligence by 25%. 4 MP per second.
Thunderbird
Name
Exploration STR Boost
Description
"Damage increases as the % of the map uncovered increases."
Effect
Increases strength based on the amount of the map uncovered. 16 MP per second.
Unicorn
Name
DEF Emphasis
Description
"Defense X 2 while inflicted damage is 1/2."
Effect
Doubles defense, but reduce strength by 29%. 8 MP per second.
Black Dog
Name
STR Emphasis
Description
"Inflicted damage X 2 while defense is 1/2."
Effect
Increase strength by 41%, but halves defense. 8 MP per second.
Jupiter Combinations primarily grant defensive abilities, typically creating a shield with the selected element.
Dual Set-Up System Combination: Jupiter
Salamander
Name
Fireball Circle
Description
"2 fireballs circle you in defense."
Effect
Two fireballs slowly orbit you in defense. 4 MP per second.
Serpent
Name
Ice Ball Circle
Description
"4 ice balls circle you in defense. These can freeze enemies."
Effect
Four balls of ice quickly circle you in defense. They can freeze enemies. 4 MP per second.
Mandragora
Name
Regeneration
Description
"If stationary, health will gradually replenish."
Effect
After a few seconds of standing still, Nathan will slowly regain lost health, roughly 1% every second. 16 MP per second.
Golem
Name
Invincibility Duration Boost
Description
"If damages, the invincibility duration is X 4."
Effect
When damaged, the duration of Nathan's invincibility frames will quadruple. 4 MP per second.
Cockatrice
Name
Stone Form
Description
"Transform into stone and become invulnerable."
Effect
Turns Nathan to living stone, making him immune to status effects but greatly reducing his mobility. Contrary to the description, however, Nathan does not receive reduced damage. 8 MP per second.
Manticore
Name
Poison Cloud
Description
"A cloud of poison spreads to protect you."
Effect
Nathan exudes clouds of poison mist in random directions, dealing minor damage to enemies caught in it. 4 MP per second.
Griffin
Name
Sonic Wave
Description
"While dashing, a sonic wave appears to protect you."
Effect
While dashing, Nathan gains a sonic barrier in front of him. 4 MP per second.
Thunderbird
Name
Defensive Knock Back
Description
"You will be sent flying when damaged, but take 1/2 damage."
Effect
Every attack sends Nathan flying, but all damage taken is reduced by half. As an overwhelming number of attacks in the game already send Nathan flying anyways, this combination is perhaps the easiest way to double his Defense. 4 MP per second.
Unicorn
Name
Circular Barrier
Description
"A circular barrier will surround you."
Effect
A circular shield surrounds Nathan and protects him from every side (albeit to a limited extent from below), dealing Holy damage to anything it comes in contact with. 8 MP per second.
Black Dog
Name
Black Hole Barrier
Description
"A black hole barrier will surround you, but HP is drained."
Effect
A black hole will protect Nathan from every side, dealing darkness damage to anything it comes in contact with, but he takes 1% damage every second. Actually gives him the Poison status (it goes away as soon as the card combo is deactivated, but will simply return immediately upon returning to gameplay if cured with an Antidote). 8 MP per second.

Rose Sword

Golem
Name
Massive Hammer
Description
"Attack with a massive hammer. Causes earthquakes."
Effect
Swung overhead, it causes minor damage to any enemy on the ground (and Devil Towers, which are technically tied to the ground) where you strike. Effect
Statwise, it increases Nathan's strength by 41%. However, the longer the button is held, the more damage it deals (and the further its range extends). Thunderbird
Name
Martial Arts
Description
"Martial Arts. Hold attack to perform combinations."
Effect
Consists of two jabs, a punch from the other hand, then a kick. The two initial punches deal half Nathan's normal whip damage, the offhand punch deals normal, then the kick deals twice the normal whip damage. Extremely fast attack speed (though there is some cooldown between combos,) but lacking in range. 16 MP per use (each part of the combo counts as a separate use).

↑Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku Novel “I had said it before. I do not intend to bind the world with chaos.” “…… If so, why did you take power away from the crack in the eclipse’s seal? If you just intend to imitate like a monkey, isn’t your own power enough?” Those were the emotionless words of Death. In response, Olrox laughed his bold answer. “As I’ve said, I would equally gain control over the human world and the source of Dracula’s power, chaos. I do not intend to obey someone else’s mind aside from my own. That includes you who were born out of chaos.” “……” “You should be glad though to know yourself. Just by stealing power, my shameful monotonous time is over…… Even before Alucard appeared, just because I showed up and declared war on him.” Olrox’s voice was mixed with a tinge of thin delight. He respectfully bowed to Death who completely killed his emotions. “I would end the reincarnation cycle of this demon castle. I who understood and was spun out of the stains of chaos, swear to rob that power with my hands. Now, yield.” With Death’s reply, an explosive murderous intent rose. Two bronze colored scythes much larger than usual appeared; it advanced to the space in between the two men with an intention to cut off Olrox’s head. Kill the distance----- Kill the sound----- Just, faster, soon, die. It can be seen that the blades have certainly caught Olrox’s neck, but----- that is only an after image and the vampire is already at Death’s back. “……die.” That was said by the enemy who called on his servants. From the surrounding space, a group of purple bats rose, passed by Olrox’s arm with the speed of a bullet, attacking Death.
However, Death did not show any gesture of avoiding them. He simply faced Olrox and sprayed out numerous scythes. The bats and scythes cancelled each other out and the entire dance hall sparkled with blood."

↑Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku "From the time they stepped into the mountains, Curtis and Michelle felt malicious intent in the air.
Even though it is still far away, their bodies seemed to squeal [run away]. There was definitely no room for doubt. It is certain that the [castle] exists at the back of the mountains. The church’s greatest vampire hunter, Julius Belmont must be contacted. However, the conversation jumped into the matter of the disappearance of several village children."
↑Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku "A drawbridge suspended from the main gate is seemingly welcoming Michelle’s arrival. And her body was telling her [do not go] as her leg muscles were petrified like stone."
↑Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku "“Uh……aa……Mi……chelle……” That really is no doubt an obsession. The youth had more than 28 holes penetrating his limbs and body. His heart is already starting to fail and he is desperately trying to say something amidst the darkness. “Only…… protect…… you……-----“ When he said those words he must say, the man’s soul already left his body-----becoming one of the floating spirits that wander the halls of the castle. However----- Fate did not allow it. For those people who are involved with the demon castle, even the loneliness of death seemed half hearted----- The man’s soul is pierced by a small scythe that flew in from somewhere. That scythe did not exist physically. It was a diabolic blade created by some magic and possessed a strong soul."
↑Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku "“Oh, it does not matter much. Here, here!”
Hammer sensed that the air between the two suddenly felt heavy so he laughed out while holding a weapon. It was a whip that was soaked in blood in some places. “I picked this up at the garden and I believe this is yours, right? Old man Julius also uses a whip. I came here just to deliver this to ya.” Whoosh, receiving the thrown whip, Michelle noticed that it was the magical whip that serves as Curtis’ weapon. “That’s great……! Curtis! With this your power-----“ In order to shake away the confusion she had a while ago, Michelle raised her voice, but----- “Sorry, but…… with my current self, I could not handle it.” “……? What are you talking about? Curtis……” was he still confused, Michelle made him grip his whip. Snap, some kind of popping sound rang and Michelle felt a light shock in her arm. “Uh……!?” What happened, she directed her eyes on the origin of the shock----- A part of the whip’s handle had a rotten like disintegration----- A part of Curtis’ hand was burned, and that skin immediately returned back to as before. ----- No way…… “Curtis……?” “……I am currently weak at holy magic.” “Eh……”"
