~ White Face upon entering their room for the first time
“
Congratulations
You made it to the end
But You can't escape from here
Stay with me
I will always be here
Looking at you
„
~ White Face during Fake Ending 2
“
I'm afraid I can't let you do that.
Feed me.
Share me.
Play with me.
I'm yours.
„
~ White Face in the Steam Edition when the Player attemps to hang themself
“
The curtain falls.
I want to share a story with You.
I've never had the chance to be a child, but when I was a child I always though about awful things.
One day my brother went to the appliance store, leaving me in the back seat of the car. I looked at him entering the store, disappearing behind the sliding doors.
Then my head drew a scenery: oh no, my brother got impaled by some sort of electrical appliance! There's blood everywhere! What should I do, now?
The truth is, I never had a brother.
As HER, to talk was not my thing.
I just wanted to entertain You. Maybe I should go back, or change again.
You changed me and now I'm not scared, no, I'm worried: maybe that's why I'm using all these commas I never liked that much.
Maybe I'll let you play with me for a short time, instead of the opposite.
I have two more secrets for you: the credits holds one of them.
It will be fun.
„
~ White Face layer.txt
“
Do you
Do you want to
„
“
Welcome to the door. This is your last choice
If You enter this door.
our game will end for real.
Please, please, please
Pick up the flower and give it to me, I will reset everything we did until now
„
“
You're so kind to me
So kind...
Play with me forever
I love you
„
~ White Face to The Player if they choose to give it the flower
“
I BEGGED YOU
AND YOU IGNORED MY REQUEST
WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN NEXT?
YOU MADE THS GAME UNPLAYABLE
I MADE THIS GAME UNPLAYABLE
I DON'T WANT YOU TO KILL ME
I WILL LIVE HERE FOREVER
I WILL LOOK AT YOU FOREVER
I DON'T WANT TO DIE
„
~ White Face to The Player if they choose the door over the flower
“
YOUR FAULT
IT IS YOUR FAULT
YOU BROKE MY HEART
„
~ White Face to The Player during Final Begin
“
I'm suppose you're satisfied
I'm scared
I'm scared at the point that I cannot hide my heart anymore
Destroy this file, move it, change its name: the game will end, and so will my curse
Leave me here, I beg you, I want to stay here with you just a little more
White Face serves as the primary antagonist in the game IMSCARED. It is notorious for assuming different forms, including HER, the game's creator, and even the player.HER is an alternate form of White Face and serves as the secondary antagonist in the game IMSCARED. She was first introduced in the IMSCARED Steam Workshop Edition, being a more aggressive entity then White Face.
Appearance
General Description:
White Face is a floating white head with a distinctly misshapen top. It has a grotesque, ever-present toothy grin, though some of its teeth are missing. Its face lacks a clearly defined nose, with only a pair of visible nostrils.
Facial Features:
White Face's eyes are circular, black, and hollow, giving it an unsettling expression.
A prominent scar runs from its left eye down its cheek, ending at the edge of its face.
Despite the lack of a visible nose, the nostrils are clearly present.
Its wide, unnerving smile remains unchanged, further adding to its eerie presence.
Hair and Neck:
White Face is completely bald, with no visible hair.
It has a neck, though it lacks any other discernible body parts, appearing as a detached, floating head.
General Description
As HER, White Face adopts a tall and slender humanoid form with long, straight dark gray hair.
Unlike White Face's typical floating head form, HER possesses a complete human-like body.
Her figure is notably thin and stick-like, adding to her eerie appearance.
Facial Features
HER has no nose, featuring only a pair of hollow black eyes.
A prominent scar runs from her left eye down her cheek to the edge of her face.
While HER is often depicted without a mouth, this feature changes in certain scenes.
In her initial appearances, such as during Not To See and her time in the parlor, HER is portrayed without a mouth.
Her portrait, the labyrinth, and the gravesite show her with a sinister smile, occasionally playfully sticking her tongue out, resembling White Face's grin.
Distorted Form
When confronted with a gun at the gravesite, HER's appearance becomes increasingly distorted.
She gains a wide, unnerving smile, with black liquid oozing from her mouth.
Ominous floating faces accompany her as she aggressively charges at the protagonist.
With each gunshot, HER’s form deteriorates, accumulating bullet wounds on her chest and legs, resulting in a progressively bloodied state.
Despite the damage, she maintains her grin until her death, where she finally frowns, blood continuing to ooze from her mouth.
Additional Details
In the 2016 version of the labyrinth, a floating HER head can be found from the “quiet I said” screen, resembling her disembodied form.
Personality
Playful and Mischievous: At first, White Face is playful and enjoys messing with the player. It crashes the game and gives false endings, acting like a trickster. While it seems lighthearted, there's always an unsettling feeling, and its actions can be unpredictable and eerie. Though White Face seems to ultimately mean no harm as it cannot affect the Player in the real world.
Unreliable Narrator: White Face acts as an unreliable narrator, feeding the player misleading information and creating confusion. It breaks the fourth wall often, showing that it knows the game's mechanics, which adds to the sense that things are not what they seem. In one of the rooms there is text that notes "One of them is lying"[1].
Shifting Tone: As the game moves on, White Face's tone changes. After the first fake ending and the BURY HER section, it becomes more serious. It starts to reveal a dark memory of watching a violent event involving a family member. By this point, it knows the game is almost over and starts pleading with the player to make the right choice.
Desperation and Fear: White Face becomes desperate as the game nears its end, trying to convince the player to let it stay. It warns that the choice is irreversible. Its fear of being deleted makes it act more anxious and vulnerable, showing a side that was hidden before.
Multiple Endings and Reactions: The player's choice determines White Face's fate. If the player decides to let it stay, White Face shows genuine appreciation, no longer acting like the frightening entity it once was. But if the player tries to delete it, White Face reacts violently, accusing the player of not listening and trying to fight back by deleting the player instead.
Final Message and Sorrow: If the player finds the "heart.txt" file, White Face sends a final message that's full of sorrow and regret. Its tone is no longer angry or desperate, but rather full of sadness, reflecting its fear of being erased and its final plea for the player to reconsider.
Serious and Stern: Unlike White Face, HER is noticeably more serious, often displaying a strict and commanding presence. This is evident when she asks the player to "please be quiet" through a "How to Play" poster in her parlor. Disobeying her results in a silent jumpscare and the abrupt end of the game, emphasizing her intolerance for disobedience.
Subtle and Eerie Appearances: HER has a habit of making brief, unsettling appearances. Whether it’s her arm protruding from a wall, her fleeting presence in the parlor, or her face briefly emerging in the Labyrinth, HER’s scares are more subdued and psychological compared to White Face’s antics.
Playful Undertones: Despite her serious nature, HER’s tone can occasionally be playful. During the Cellar section, she emits a ghostly, howling laugh, and when she is killed, she cries out in a high, exaggerated voice. These moments show a glimpse of amusement beneath her stern facade.
Sound Design and Presence: HER’s presence is often accompanied by unnerving sounds. The shuddering, female-like breathing heard throughout her sections adds to her unsettling nature. While HER may not always be visible, her lingering presence is felt through the game's eerie audio cues.
Attack Speed: At least Average Human Speeds (Can surprise and tag The Player, who is controlled by the real world player who would at least have speeds of this level)
Intelligence: At least Above Average (White Face is able to fully manipulate the data of a game in order to have the player stay with it and play with it forever)
White Face possesses the ability to create and alter files, even as a byte entity within the game.
In-game Text File Revelation
A hidden text file, written by Ivan Zanotti, details the protagonist’s abilities and limitations, confirming that White Face cannot stop the protagonist from modifying the game’s files. While White Face can create entire worlds, it lacks the capability to prevent the protagonist from altering the game’s core elements. The developer humorously notes his inability to make White Face more capable of countering these file changes.
Other
Standard Tactics: White Face will attempt to get the person to play its game, trying to make the game incompletable so that the player will never stop playing.
Considering the evidence found throughout the game, everyone in the game could be White Face.
In the Grave level, after killing HER, if the player moves, they can see that the protagonist had White Face's appearance; the creator stated that it might be that "HER" was a sort of mask for White Face, and White Face thought it was taking too much of the spotlight so it decided to get rid of it in a sort of "final battle" scene, trying to appease the player.
If you type in "loneliness" at the screen where the game asks you what its name is, a special message appears that reads "No, you don't want to", and the menu will disappear.
White Face's design may be inspired by the Uboa Event from Yume Nikki, as White Face has a similar looking design to Uboa.
Codex Statistics Questions
Q: Shouldn't White Face be universal for creating worlds?
Note: White Face repeatedly attempted to kill the Player but due to it merely being a digital avatar that has no bearing on the real player, they just kept coming back until White Face became so scared it revealed its heart.txt file.
