~ Captain Ginyu |
Background
Captain Ginyu is the captain of the legendary Ginyu Force, an elite squadron that serves directly under Lord Frieza as the second hand of the Frieza Force. As a child, Ginyu would abuse his unique Body Change technique to gain fame and fortune with his peers, notably by switching bodies with rich and popular kids he knew.
As he grew up, Ginyu’s special abilities and overwhelming power caught the attention of an alien named Cooler, who recruited Ginyu into Cooler’s Armoured Squadron. Ginyu was then put up against his comrade, Salza, as they fought over leadership of the team. Although the result of the battle is unknown, Ginyu left the Squadron regardless.
Ginyu was soon then recruited by Cooler’s younger brother, Frieza, who decided to make him the leader of his very own group; the Ginyu Force. Ginyu would become partners with four other aliens, known as Jeice, Burter, Recoome, and Guldo, and their team would become known for their eccentric poses.
The Ginyu Force was soon brought to Planet Namek by Frieza, who requested that they bring Scouters for him, along with destroying those who were trying to steal the Dragon Balls from him. They were pitted against the Dragon Team, including Son Gohan, Krillin, Vegeta, and Son Goku, who swiftly beat the team.
With only Captain Ginyu left, he opted to switch bodies with Son Goku, although he soon found out that he was completely unable to use Goku’s full power. As he attempted to then switch bodies with Vegeta, a frog intercepted his body swap, and ruined his plans.
Once everyone on Namek was teleported to Earth, Ginyu in the frog’s body was brought to Earth as well, where he lived out the rest of his days; unable to fight in his new form, and rendered completely harmless.
General Information
Name: Ginyu
Origin: Dragon Ball
Sex: Male (Female in Bulma’s Body)
Age: Unknown
Classification: Alien
Species: Unknown
Occupation: Captain of the Ginyu Force
Status: Alive (In Dragon Ball Super it is revealed that Ginyu has been alive on Earth the entire time)
Alignment: Neutral Evil (Although Captain Ginyu does carry out evil deeds, he does not do so in an unnecessary extent the way that Frieza or the barbaric Saiyans would. Ginyu seeks fun in battle above all else, only committing his evil deeds after having won a satisfying match, unless Frieza directly commands him to get to the point)
Codex Statistics
Key: Base Form | Goku's Body | Bulma's Body | Tagoma's Body
Tier: 7-A | 7-A | 10-B | At least 6-C
Cardinality: Finite
Dimensionality: 3-D
Attack Potency: Metropolis level (Ginyu’s power level is 120,000, making him above the likes of Nappa who casually destroyed a city and stood within the blast without having any damage, and Raditz who can cause explosions dwarfing the mountains, which results in these levels of energy) | Metropolis level (Ginyu’s power level dropped to 23,000 with Goku’s body, which is above Vegeta’s power level) | Average Human level (Bulma is a regular human) | At least Island level (When possessing Tagoma, could easily fight against a base Golden Frieza Saga Son Gohan, with Gohan needing to go super saiyan to beat him[1], which should put him far beyond Second Form Cell, who destroyed several islands with several blasts)
Durability: Metropolis level, Higher with Guard Up (Ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even block attacks that would otherwise kill them from raising their guard) | Metropolis level, Higher with Guard Up | Average Human level, Higher with Guard Up | At least Island level
Striking Strength: Metropolis Class | Metropolis Class | Average Human Class | At least Island Class
Lifting Strength: Class 1 (Superior to Early Saiyan Saga Goku, who before training with King Kai is able to barely move around and jump in gravity that multiplies his weight by ten times, where he's naturally 62 kg, thus making him 620 kg on King Kai's planet) | Class 1 | Regular Human | At least Class 50 (Superior to Golden Frieza Saga Son Gohan, who is comparable or superior too Buu Saga Super Saiyan Son Goku, who could casually fight while carrying 40 tons)
Travel Speed: High Hypersonic (Superior to Saiyan Saga Son Goku with Goku being capable of traveling over a million of kilometers in two days which results in these speeds) | High Hypersonic (Still superior to Saiyan Saga Son Goku | Average Human | At least Massively Hypersonic+ (Superior to Frieza fight Son Goku, who traveled to the Freiza fight at these speeds)
Attack Speed: High Hypersonic | High Hypersonic | Average Human | At least Massively Hypersonic+
Reaction Speed: High Hypersonic (Far beyond 22nd Budokai Son Goku, who could dodge a mouth blast from Tambourine, which he used to tag the flying nimbus where even post King Kai training Goku used the flying nimbus to make it to the saiyans implying it is at least comparable to his flight speed by then, with Goku being capable of traveling over a million of kilometers in two days which results in these speeds) | High Hypersonic | Average Human | At least Massively Hypersonic+
Stamina: Superhuman (Should be comparable to, if not superior to, early-Dragon Ball Z Goku, who travelled across Snake Way mainly non-stop for over 100 days. Swapping bodies with others can completely rejuvenate his stamina)
Range: Standard Melee, Interstellar with Ki Attacks (Ki attacks can reach out of the planet and to other planets. All ki attacks should be comparable to Goku's kamehameha, which reached all the way to the sun)
Intelligence: Genius Intelligence (As the leader of the Ginyu Force, Ginyu is a very respected and intelligent fighter. When he recognizes that he’s losing a fight, he will tactfully harm himself before using his Body Change. He can even take on warriors such as Son Goku, who have decades of experience)
Powers and Techniques
Equipment
- Attack Ball: This round space pod only has room for one person, which the Ginyu Force used to travel from planet to planet; notably, they were seen using this space pod to travel to Planet Namek.
- Ginyu Force Armor: Due to being a part of the Frieza Force, Ginyu has Battle Armor. This armor is unbelievably durable, but also incredibly stretchy; the armor can stretch so much that it fits around Saiyans when they turn into a Great Ape.
- Scouter: Technology developed by the Tuffle race, but adopted by the Saiyans after the Tuffles were wiped out. This advanced piece of technology can detect the presence of life forms, calculate anyone’s battle power, and can also be used for telecommunication.
Notable Techniques
- Flight: With a mastery of Ki control, Ginyu is able to fly at incredibly high speeds.
- Ki Blast: Using Ki, Ginyu can concentrate it into a ball that he uses as a projectile attack.
- Body Change: Through emitting an energy beam from his mouth, Captain Ginyu can swap souls with whomever his beam makes contact with; essentially swapping bodies with them.
- Galaxy Dynamite: Ginyu launches a barrage of purple ki blasts.
- Milky Cannon: Ginyu focuses Ki in his palm, before launching off a giant purple blast.
- Kamehameha: A legendary blue beam of ki, coined by Master Roshi. Ginyu obtained this technique when he took over Goku’s body.
Other
Standard Tactics: Ginyu will employ hand to hand tactics along with ki attacks. If the opponent is shown to be too strong for him he will attempt to swap bodies with them while damaging his own.
Weaknesses
- Standard Ki Weaknesses: Due to the nature of ki draining stamina and energy, Dragon Ball characters ki usage requires them to usually use their higher levels of energy in short bursts, using a large amount of ki overtime can greatly weaken them to the point that characters far lower then them can actually harm them with attacks. Taking large amounts of damage can greatly deplete a ki users attacks, making it where attacks that would otherwise kill massively weakened characters, only pushes them back. Despite some ki users being able to reach to higher tiers such as planetary through charged attacks or techniques, they have not shown to be able to tank planets themself being destroyed, with attacks that have destroyed several planets in the series always killing the character. Even characters such as Majin Buu's body cannot withstand the energy of a plant exploding.
- Unique Weaknesses: When Ginyu body swaps, he is shown to be weaker than the original owner of the body. This is shown when he body swapped with Goku, in which he was unable to utilize Goku’s true power. If something gets in the way of his body swap it can prove a lot of trouble for him, shown when he accidentally swapped with a frog.
Note
- Some clips used on the profile come from an anime or movie due to the fact that some abilities from ki use shouldn't function much differently from how they can in canon, along with this sometimes the anime version/video game version of a scene will be used for cleaner visuals. Toriyama himself directly overlooks scenes in the anime and movies and gives Toei the thumbs up[13].
- The speed scaling for PLs are taken with a grain of salt as there are noticeable times where someone's speed isn't equal to their power, such as Burter being faster then Recoome and Jeice, along with Super Saiyan Grade 3 Trunks having his power greatly increased but his speed decreased.
