Background

Frost Man is a combat Robot Master from Mega Man 8 who was created by Dr. Wily predominantly using several leftover parts from Clown Man. Frost Man is one of the largest Robot Masters and possesses great strength, which he is very proud of, and has the ability to punch the ground to generate fast surges of freezing cold energy using his Special Weapon, the Ice Wave. Alternatively, Frost Man can also attack by dropping heavy blocks of ice down onto his opponents.

Despite being very proud of both his stature and strength, Frost Man is not too bright when it comes to strategy, and his great weight also makes him sluggish in battle. Due to his unorthodox method of construction, he suffers from chilblains and poor oil circulation and is vulnerable to explosives. Frost Man appears to have something of a sweet tooth, having a liking for sorbet and rock candy. In one of his threats to Mega Man, Frost Man wishes to turn him into shaved ice (a popsicle in the English version) and eat him.

  • Ice Wave: Ice Wave is Frost Man's Special Weapon from Mega Man 8. When used, Frost Man punches the ground, which will send a flow of ice along the floor until it hits a wall. It can freeze enemies (and some take damage by it), and it can even freeze the lava fountains in Sword Man's stage.

Standard Tactics: Frost Man jumps around, punching with a fist encased in spikey ice and hits the ground to cause an ice wave, freezing anything it touches.

Weaknesses: Has a weakness to Grenade Man's flash bomb and Sword Man's flame sword. If his data is corrupted, he will be incapable of coming back.

Trivia

  • Chilblain (Frost Man's dislike) is defined as "an inflammation followed by itchy irritation on the hands, feet, or ears, resulting from exposure to moist cold" in the American Heritage Dictionary.[110]
  • In Japan, Frost Man usually ends his lines with "gā" (ガー?).
  • While it is not his primary weakness, the Flame Sword can cause Frost Man considerable damage during the rematch in Wily Tower. This may be to connect the two weakness chains featured in the first four and last four Robot Masters, similar to Freeze Man and Burst Man both being weak to Scorch Wheel in Mega Man 7.
  • In the Japanese version of Mega Man 8, Frost Man threatens to turn Mega Man into a kakigōri, a type of shaved ice dessert (flavored with syrup and condensed milk) found in Japan. In the English version of the game, the translation was changed so that he wants to turn Mega Man into a popsicle.
  • The English version of Mega Man 8 contains an additional voice clip which has Frost Man saying, "It means nothing to me,"[111] which was not used in the actual game. It's unknown under what circumstances this clip would have played during Frost Man's battle.

    A. I take it you’d like to know if Wily and Cossack’s robots possess “sentience”? Naturally, they each have a “consciousness”, although the level of every “cognitive circuit” embedded inside each one of them varies, producing as many different “personality” types as found in people… Just like you or I, they can speak, and have emotional responses like shyness, or anger, just as we do.
    Regarding their energy systems, many of them do utilize “solar energy” in some way.
