Mom. You messed up. Big time. And usually, when a queen messes up in this family, bad things happen to them. I mean, all Eclipsa did was fall in love, and look what they did to her. Even though we aren't queens anymore, we still get to decide what kind of family we want to be. And I want to be the kind of family where Moms mess up and we figure it out. Okay, that's enough. No more crying. I gotta go and check on my friends. Oh, and Mom. I think our cheek thingies are... are gone. Wow.
That's saying something, 'cause I've been through outer space.
I think it suits me, it's just my style.
I think I'm gonna stay a little while.
I think that strangers are just friends you haven't met.
I'm blasting monsters and I never break a sweat.
I'm really thinking I could call this place home!
„
~ Star's ending song from Season 1-2
“
Quiet, Marco. This is serious! I think I'm going through... mewberty.
„
“
Okay, I get it! You're angry! If I were in your shoes, I'd be angry, too! But you don't have to do this! We can fix everything! ... You're right! I can't! You want my power?! Take it!
„
~ Star to Meteora Butterfly
“
She's a princess winning battles through the break of dawn
Don't worry when it's night, 'cause she will keep the lights on!
Oooh, there goes a shining star!
Evil won't deter her (No sir!), 'cause magic flows through her (Star Butterfly!)
Princess Star Butterfly is the main and titular protagonist of Star Vs. The Forces of Evil. She is a teenage princess of the Kingdom of Mewni (located in another dimension) sent to Earth by her parents in order to learn how to use the royal magic wand. In seasons 1-2, she lives with her earthly hosts, the Diaz family. By season 3 she's back in Mewni with her bestie Marco Diaz living with her as her Squire.
Star is a very friendly and energetic girl who loves having fun and usually has an optimistic outlook on life. She loves to help others and whenever she sees that someone is upset, she does her best to cheer them up. Strangers, in her eyes, are just friends she has not met yet, and she feels bad if she hurts someone's feelings, whether intentionally or not. Star has a happy-go-lucky attitude and always tries to put a smile on everyone's faces. She also works very hard towards her goals, so much so that she will sometimes end up greatly sleep-deprived, such as in "Monster Arm".
Owing to her rather sheltered upbringing, Star's optimism and enthusiasm can border on recklessness, to the point of endangering the people around her with her madcap antics. She has rather simplistic views on concepts such as leadership and responsibility, believing that prioritizing fun above all else matters the most. All this, coupled with her lack of understanding of Earth customs, often puts her and Marco in strange, dangerous situations. While rarely ever angry, she does express annoyance towards people who do not take her seriously or give her the attention she wants. Although she treats her friends kindly and rarely holds grudges against them, she is usually brutal towards her enemies.
In earlier episodes, she also holds a prejudice against monsters, believing they are "born bad", though this opinion softens a little as of "Mewnipendance Day". As the series continues her prejudice softens more and eventually dissipates completely, shown by her being friends with Buff Frog and his tadpoles and her disapproval of her mother's own prejudice in Star vs. the Forces of Evil: The Battle for Mewni. By "Starfari", Star has started advocating for fairer treatment of monsters in Mewni.
Because of her initial naivete and irresponsibility, Star shows several times to be incapable of being an effective ruler. In "Sleep Spells", it is revealed she is aware of this through her having issues with her mother and taking over for her one day. This is further insinuated when she is made acting queen in "Divide", during which she does not know what to do and constantly turns to others for advice. After discovering she is not a true member of the Butterfly family in "Butterfly Trap", Star begins to doubt her place as royalty. Because of these reasons, she ultimately feels compelled to return the royal magic wand to Eclipsa at the end of "Conquer".
As the series progresses, Star becomes less prone to resorting to magic to fix a situation, and she shows a willingness to become stronger and more serious and not run away from her problems, despite this sometimes resulting in her underestimating her enemies. After Toffee's defeat, she decides to focus on becoming a better princess and starts to act more serious, mature, and responsible as a result. She also hopes to bridge the relationship gap between Mewmans and monsters, wanting the prolonged discrimination between them to end one day. As of "The Tavern at the End of the Multiverse", after her mother's use of a magically-created army backfires horribly, Star outright hates magic, believing it only causes problems and that those who use it are "idiots". She even believes magic to be the cause of all of Mewni's problems and that destroying it will solve everything.
In season 4, Star demonstrates determination through her relentlessly searching for her missing mother all the while helping Eclipsa be accepted as queen over a period of several months. However, all of this puts a noticeable strain on her. By "Cornonation", Star cites she is tired of all the politics and just wants to return to being a normal teenage girl, further stating she had forgotten what exactly that means.
Early on, Star has somewhat of a nervous tic where she chews on the top of the wand.
This dropdown contains the synopsis of Star Butterfly’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!
Season One
Star's adventures start off on her fourteenth birthday, where her Mother bestows upon her their family's greatest heirloom, the Royal Magic Wand. Unfortunately due to being reckless and irresponsible, she causes so much chaos and destruction that her parents decide to send away. At first she thought her parents were sending her to St. Olga's Reform School for Wayward Princesses, but to her relief they were sending her to Earth, where she can learn her magic safely. Star was dropped off at her new school in a place called Echo Creek, where she met Marco Diaz, a student at her school and would be living with during her stay on Earth. During their first meeting, Star immediately took a liking to Marco and declared him a friend, but Marco at the time was not so keen about her because of how chaotic she was, especially with her magic. Marco finally lost it when Star accidentally sucked his room into a black hole, that he decided to run away from home, abhorrent of his new roommate. Feeling sorry, Star found Marco outside a shop, and acknowledged the hardship she had put him through. She was planning to find another family to live with, but after a brief battle with Ludo and his monster army, Marco expressed a change of heart toward Star, and a preference for her to remain a resident of his home.
Through the course of the first season, Star and Marco go on many adventures, and Star tries her hardest to adjust to life on Earth which for her proves difficult. She even misunderstands many things during her time on Earth, such as thinking Echo Creek Academy's football team was going into a fight to the death with a rival team called the "Warriors" or mistaking a product known as the "Banagic" as an actual magical object. A few times, Star is encountered by Ludo and his monster army who are out to steal her wand, but never succeed. She also tried to help Marco with some of his personal problems. It would not be until the near end of season one where Star would meet her most greatest enemy of all, Toffee.
When Marco was kidnapped by Toffee, Star set out to rescue him, accompanied by Ludo and Buff Frog. Apparently Toffee was proven to be far too smart for Star that she was forced to surrender her wand to him, only to learn that he wanted her to destroy it. Using a whispering spell, her wand destroyed itself and blew up Ludo's castle along with Toffee and Ludo's former monster army. However, a new tiny unicorn came along to recharge the wand, giving it a new appearance, with half of the star face missing.
Season Two
Star continued to live with the Diazs, practicing her magic under the tutorials of Glossaryck and handling school life. Star remains reckless and irresponsible, but over the course of the season develops more maturity. Star even struggled with her newly restored wand. Even though it remained reliable, it had not been the same since the day it was destroyed. It was now powered by a unicorn corrupted by an evil force, and did not work properly when Star feels negative emotions.
Star's friendship with Marco slowly became very strained, especially when he started dating his long time crush, Jackie Lynn Thomas. In the episode "Sleepover", a game box called Truth or Punishment revealed that Star had a crush on Marco just as it got crushed by a dump truck. Throughout the second half of season two, Star struggled with her growing feelings for Marco, and tried her hardest to ignore them. Marco would not know about Star's crush on him until "Face the Music", when the songstrel, Ruberiot, wrote a song about Star for her Song Day. His song revealed all of Star's deepest and darkest secrets, including her crush on Marco. After that, Star and Marco's friendship became even more strained and the two of them desperately tried to avoid each other. During the end of the school year party on planet Earth, in "Starcrushed", Marco asked Star straight out if she had a crush on him, and answered no. She just wanted the two of them to be friends, to which Marco agreed with. However, after Star's mother showed up in her room to take her back to Mewni and with news that Toffee had returned, Star confessed to Marco in front of everyone that she does have a crush on him before tearfully leaving Earth at the end of the second season.
Season Three
Upon returning to Mewni, Star and her mother were on the run from Toffee, who by now had possessed Ludo and taken over the kingdom. When news got out that River and Marco were in trouble, Star wanted to go and rescue them, but her mother would not let her. So, she sneaked away and returned to the castle where she faced the Toffee possessed Ludo. She used the whispering spell to destroy Ludo's wand and was transported to a corrupted version of the Realm of Magic. Toffee had been corrupting all the magic of the multiverse since "Storm the Castle". All the magic was on the verge of being destroyed for good. However, Star manages to use the last vestige of uncorrupted magic to restore the usable magic through the Realm and destroy Toffee for good.
Afterwards, Star set her sights on becoming a better princess, starting with unifying monsters and Mewmans. During this time, she met her distant ancestor, Eclipsa and discovered she could travel through multiple dimensions without the use of Dimensional Scissors as well transform into a magic butterfly like her mother. She also made Marco her royal squire during his stay on Mewni as a foreigner.
By the second half of the third season, Star discovered that Miss Heinous was Eclipsa's biological daughter, Meteora, and all her ancestors dating back to Festivia were not true-blooded members of the Butterfly family. It turned out that the Magic High Commission had replaced Meteora with Festivia and erased all record history of her existence. When Miss Heinous, now going by her real name, regained her true identity she set out to take back what was rightfully hers. When her mother went missing while trying to stop her, Star was made temporary queen of Mewni, and led an army against the now monster Meteora. The battle was almost at lost until Eclipsa took the wand and unexpectedly reverted her daughter back to infancy. Afterwards, Star decided to return the throne and the wand to Eclipsa.
Season Four
Star begins searching for her mother; eventually finding her on the Island of the Pie Folk where she discovers that Festivia was of Pie Folk origin, meaning that she and Moon are partially of Pie Folk descent. She next spends the first half of the season trying to get the Mewmans to like Eclipsa which proves difficult due to everyone's perceived aspect of her. Soon, Star herself begins to have her doubts when she learns that she desires to release her husband Globgor from imprisonment. This eventually culminates in Globgor getting released and Star realizing that the Magic High Commission has been out to get him and Eclipsa despite their changed ways. Star holds a coronation for Eclipsa and she and Globgor decide to rule Mewni peacefully.
After leaving Mewni behind and giving up her title as princess, Star realizes that she is unsure of what to do with herself. This causes tension between her and Tom that eventually ends with him breaking up with her. She also learns that she is still connected to Marco through the blood moon curse and have the curse "cleaved" so that they can just be friends. Nevertheless, Star maintains a closer friendship to Marco than to Tom.
Everything comes to a head during the events of "Sad Teen Hotline" where Star, Marco and Tom discover that they cannot access Mewni through any teleporting means. They recruit Janna and discover a well that can take them to any place in the multiverse. Upon arriving in Mewni, they learn that Mina Loveberry has acquired an army of Solarian soldiers to eradicate Monsters and rule over the Mewmans with an iron fist. With no other options, Star decides to destroy magic completely by heading straight into the magic realm and performing the whispering spell. This succeeds, but Star learns that she and Marco cannot be together as once the spell is performed, everyone goes back to their respective dimensions. Star and Marco embrace each other as the magic realm closes for good.
Star and Marco's magic ends up being so powerful that both Earth and Mewni fuse into one world and the series ends with Star and Marco reunited for good.

Once Star realized magic was the core source of everyone's problems, she opted to destroy it, which even the contextually omniscient Glossaryck said, was the right choice. Intelligence:Genius (Despite acting like an airhead it's actually revealed that she does itpurposefully. Implied to have an understanding ofthe space-time continuum and multiverse theory. Star is also very well trained in how to fight without the wand, either fighting unarmed or using a weapon. As a toddler, she was taught how to break a neck with her bare hands and the art of swordsmanship by the Mewni royal guard. By season 4, Star has become very proficient in casting magic spells without a wand, which Moon has noted that she didn't learn how to do that until she was 19. Star has also demonstrated a talent for paper cutting, painting, and drawing. She also makes up her own spells using her imagination. Has stated that she can tame wild animals as a hobby. Star has also shown great charisma in her goal to achieve equality between mewmans and monsters. She was able to garner respect and admiration from the monsters and was able to bring momentary peace between mewmans and monsters during "Monster Bash". In "Is Another Mystery" Buff Frog tells her that he and the other monsters will return, once Star becomes the ruler of Mewni)
All previous powers and abilities, Enhanced Magic (In "My New Wand!", Star learns to "dip down" and access the innate magic within her own body and amplify her wand's magic. According to Baby, Star is the strongest innate magic user since Queen Eclipsa), Time Paradox Immunity (Type 1. Star and Marco went to the past and met with Star’s mom along with fighting her, yet had no repercussions from doing so), Improbability (Out of all the infinite versions of Star that did the math problem, Star is the only one that didn't do it, this makes her a statistical improbability)
Time Travel (Can enter the Plains of Time and request to borrow the time wheel from Father Time which he will be fine with), Enhanced Resistance to Memory Manipulation & Mind Manipulation (Glossaryck's pudding makes one unaffected by the effects of the Realm of Magic which includes making one lose their memories and have a childlike innocence)
Royal Magic Wand: The Royal Magic Wand is a magical item and the greatest heirloom of the Butterfly family, the ruling sovereigns of Mewni. Star Butterfly is given the wand by her mother, Queen Moon Butterfly when she turned fourteen, and she must protect it while attempting to master its power (which is done by season 3). She has this from Season 1-3.
Dimensional Scissors: Dimensional scissors are used for traveling between dimensions. By cutting anywhere in the air with the desired dimension to travel to in mind, the scissors create a portal. The portal itself usually reflects the designated dimension, like the portal to the Amethyst Arcade being pixelated and the portal to the Scum Bucket looking like blue waves. After someone passes through the portal, the portal either closes by itself or it can manually be closed by someone. The scissors can also be used as weapons, as demonstrated by Hekapoo. As revealed in "Deep Dive" and "Ludo, Where Art Thou?", if a scissors user does not have a specific destination in mind when using them, the portal that they open leads to a dead end.
Star Butterfly's Sword: Star Butterfly's sword is a sword that Star Butterfly owns. The sword has a long silver blade, and the cross-guard is gold with the sides pointing upwards and a pink diamond in the center of each side. The hilt is gold and wrapped with white cloth. A modified version of the sword appears in the game Creature Capture. With this version, the blade of the sword has a pair of hearts, one complete heart and one half of a heart near the top, and the handle has a swirly look.

Star in Season 1 was getting used to using her wand making her have less knowledge on spells and having a harder time fixing mistakes she's made with her spells. Like how she accidentally transformed Miss Skullnick into a troll and when she tried to change Miss Skullnick back she accidentally used a teleportation spell. Star also relied heavily on her wand during this season making it harder for her to fight if she loses her wand, this is not due to a lack of skill in H2H however, but moreso her relying too much on the wand, a lesson she learns in "Marco Grows a Beard", where she learns to not fully rely on the wand. After that she mixes her physicals with her magic. Star will also at times use the dimensional scissors to send people to a void or use it to flee and come up with a plan to fight her enemies.
Star learns of the ability to use magic without her wand, however she has not fully mastered it yet and still uses her wand in most occasions, though she has improved far more with her use of the wand, as stated in the episode "Baby". Using more spells that help in the situation and mixing it with her creativity and imagination.
Star has not changed much from her Season 2 self for the most part, asides from one major addition to her arsenal, her New Mewberty state which she normally uses to shoot out magic even without the wand at times. This fight shows the way she fights with her New Mewberty state, which consists of using her natural flight along with various magical spells to fight the enemy. Though she is far more of a novice with the form.
Star no longer has her Royal Magic Wand as she gave it back to Eclipsa, though this does not diminish her abilities. Star uses her natural magic to fight almost like she's using her royal magic wand. When Star gets completely serious she'll enter a state where she makes a rainbow Aura around her making her capable of fighting Solarian Warriors, who even Globgor couldn't beat. She will also use her mewberty state to fight, with her being far more experienced with her New Mewberty state.
Weaknesses: Can get somewhat emotional and make rash decisions. From Season 2 and on however she doesn't make as many rash decisions anymore, likely due to taking her role of Queen more seriously. Star's magic while powerful, does not scale to her durability, making her a glass cannon in some respects, though with magic like her rainbow aura she can mitigate this. As of "Curse of the Blood Moon", Star has lost the blood moon ball's curse making her no longer have fate manipulation. While she is more then capable of fighting on her own she fights at her best when she has a teammates (most of the time Marco) to watch her back.
Note: Despite the wand being able to perform a large variety of these abilities, Star herself has never actually been shown to use a lot of them in-character (those usually being the spells made by other people).
Note 2: Blood Moon Ball's Curse was removed as of "Curse of the Blood Moon"(Season 4, Episode 13), it is still noted on the profile as Star has had it for a majority of the series, it should be noted in versus threads if it's disabled.
Note 3: The reason why Moon and Spider With a Top Hat Blast fall under the legitimate laser requirements is as follows:
They move in straight lines.
Reflect off of reflective surfaces.
Directly called a laser (Spider with a Top Hat Blast).
