Kafka

From The Codex
A space station, but that's not important. Listen: You are in a daze right now. You don't know who you are, why you're here, or what you're going to do next. You think I look familiar, but you're not sure if you should trust me- ...None of that matters. All you need to know is that I'm leaving, and you will be left all alone on this space station. From now on, you needn't think about your past or doubt yourself. Listen: In the near future, you will encounter all kinds of perils and hardships, but you will also have many wonderful experiences. You'll meet companions who treat you like family, and embark on surreal adventures with them... At the end of your journey, all that perplexes you and troubles you will resolve. This is your future that Elio has foreseen. Do you like it?
~ Kafka to The Trailblazer
A member of the Stellaron Hunters. A dashing, collected, and professional beauty. Used the enchantment of Spirit Whisper to set up (Trailblazer) to absorb the Stellaron. Her hobby is shopping for and organizing her collection of coats.

Background

Kafka is a playable character in Honkai: Star Rail.

A member of the Stellaron Hunters who is calm, collected, and beautiful. Her record on the wanted list of the Interastral Peace Corporation only lists her name and her hobby. People have always imagined her to be elegant, respectable, and in pursuit of things of beauty even in combat.

It is unknown what the Stellaron's true goal is by the IPC, but according to Kafka when she plays truth and lie with The Trailblazer, she seeks to follow the script of Elio as Elio promised her The Trailblazer will change her.

On the Intrastral Peace Corporation's wanted list, Kafka's entry only has two things- her name, and a single sentence: "Likes collecting coats." Little is known about this Stellaron Hunter.

Lore

On the Interastral Peace Corporation's wanted list, Kafka's record only shows her name and a note about her "interest in collecting coats." Little is known about this Stellaron Hunter aside from her being one of "Destiny's Slave" Elio's most trusted members. In order to achieve Elio's envisioned future, Kafka gets to work.

~Wanted Order by the Interastral Peace Corporation

"...Due to the investigation's needs, the suspect's basic information is published as follows: Suspect Kafka (Wanted Serial No.: L933012000020002010004), female, outworld individual, age unknown; height about 170 centimeters, average body size. She had been spotted draped with a black jacket and wearing a white collared shirt inside, a pair of tight-fitting dark shorts, purple pantyhose, and a pair of sunglasses on her head. The suspect has been reported to be connected to multiple non-natural disasters occurring on the Luofu in the recent past. She is currently at large, and is now publicly wanted on the Luofu. Any department and unit who detected said suspect are encouraged to contact the local Cloud Knights. At the same time, we encourage the suspect to turn herself in and to not take any chances."
~Luofu Wanted Order (revoked)

"...This woman's name is Kafka, a new Hunter without any information on file, and belongs to no particular organization. She has an ability called Spirit Whisper that allows her to hypnotically manipulate others through language. Recently, she has appeared in Riverland, New Babylon. She was seen communicating with its overchief, Shilde, and absconded with him in witness of 143 people. She then made an appearance at a clothing store and stole a black jacket, two white shirts, and a red dress with 6 witnesses. After that, she was seen by 28 people at an old music record store where she purchased nothing. Before she emerged at the Riverland Guard Station to claim her rewards, she was spotted at the central park with 2695 citizens present. We want Kafka's head, as her lethal crimes cannot go unpunished."
~Wanted Order by the Pteruges-V Devils

"...Go to Pteruges-V and locate an abandoned building at coordinates 135:7372124, 271:6372711. Enter it. There is an untouched canned drink under the window sill on the first floor. Take it. Wait until 11:12 AM on Wednesday and place the can at the entrance of the building. Kafka will appear 2 minutes later. There is a chance she will stop to investigate the can. Then, take the chance to throw this ball at her feet. I will take over and converse with her from there. There is also a chance that Kafka will ignore the can. In that case, just throw the ball away. You will die, but death will come for everyone. As for the future that you yearn for - I will realize it."

Along with this, immortality and resurrection is seen as a mere status effect within Honkai: Star Rail as characters like Pela can debuff the Mara-Struck Soldiers ability to revive themself making it where they die that the Mara-Struck does not heal them as opposed to the other soldier who wasn't debuffed).

Boundless Choreo

''Their dance glides gracefully, shadows and light silently exchanging places. She takes the other person's hand, her smile beaming into those indifferent eyes.

"Beautiful Ranger... Welcome to the stage of the Remembrance. At this proximity... you are far more enchanting than one might perceive."

The surroundings darken, a beam of light cascading from the dome above, tracing their evolving steps. "However, some were meant to dance with us but have yet to arrive..."

In a spinning moment, she draws closer to that expressionless face, grips that cold hand, and softly inquires— "Tell me. What have you done?"

As their dance steps grow hurried more and more, fragmented snippets of the past rush into her mind through their joined fingertips. In a past that stretches back further and further, she hears the sound of rain and the lamentations just before life's extinguish. Then, she sees her dance partner holding a blood-red paper umbrella in the drizzling rain. Finally, as far as her eyes can see—

A field of drowned corpses bobbing in the deluge.

Panic-stricken, she tries to withdraw her hand, falling backward. The surroundings brighten again, the banquet's clamor resurfacing. Her dance partner gently supports her waist, as if oblivious to the ordeal that just unfolded. "What a lovely dance that was, Memokeeper. Shall we have another go?"''

We Will Meet Again

''She had once thought it was some sort of program. How else would it never tire?

But a program would never actively discard the optimal solution and bypass her trap.

"Seems like we'll have a war of attrition." She yawns.

"Time to sleep. Organic lifeforms should treasure rest." The surroundings dim.

She suddenly bolts awake, but the residues of data are swept away and destroyed. It all seems like a dream — but the taste of defeat is very real.''

Along the Passing Shore

''Flowing in the narrow border between “existence” and “nothingness”, the ice-cold tides eternally lap against the shores and bring all things to their final end.

In this place, the drowned ask for help, lament with songs, find their happiness, enjoy sweet moments, and suffer great agony… All these are reflected in the water. She cannot experience these, but she can feel them– There are still many roads to walk, many sounds to listen to, and many things to change before she arrives at the end.

Other

Standard Tactics: Kafka utilizes manipulation and will use her spirit whisper along with using her sword, guns, and explosives for attacks.

Weaknesses: When needing to reduce the potency of something she regularly can't reduce with her spirit whisper, she needs to focus all of her concentration leaving her vulnerable[129].

Note: While the speed seems somewhat high, Kafka herself never directly uses her gun against the party members as a standard attack, she always uses it as a follow up attack even in her boss fight after inflicting the shock status effect on them.

Explanations

Paths

The paths that Star Rail characters have in game are not the actual paths they follow, there is an innate difference between using the abilities of a path and being a Pathriders of that path[130] being apart of different factions[131]. For example, March 7th is listed under the Path of Preservation[132], though she is apart of the Trailblaze path as a member of the Astral Express[133], one does not necessarily need to be in a path to us their abilities either, the Trailblazer while they were trying to protect March 7th from the Doomsday Beast, created a forcefield[134], despite using abilities from Destruction[135]. Thus the path one has in game mainly refers to their abilities and not the actual path they follow, this applies with Light Cones too.
