While exploring SR388, Samus was infected by an X Parasite. Samus survived the infection, but so did the parasite. Now an exact replica of Samus at full power, SA-X may be the most potent foe Samus has ever faced.
~ SA-X’s description

Background

The SA-X (named by Adam and presumably short for Samus Aran-X) was the main antagonist of Metroid Fusion and the eleventh boss Samus faced on the Biologic Space Laboratories research station. It is an X Parasite mimicking Samus Aran's Power Suit.

The SA-X is an X Parasite mimicking Samus. After Samus's first encounter with the X on SR388, her Power Suit was infected by the parasites released from an infected Hornoad she had killed. The Galactic Federation surgically removed infected portions of her suit and sent the pieces to the Biologic Space Laboratories research station's Quarantine Bay. Once there, the X inside the infected suit parts seemingly combined and transformed into a copy of Samus in her standard Varia Suit (it should be noted in SA-X's first closeup its eyes appear to be white, with no visible pupils). The SA-X used a Power Bomb to escape the Quarantine Bay, breaching the capsules containing X-infected specimens from SR388, and started the mass infestation.

Resistance to Absorption (Trying to absorb an X-Parasite will freeze one)

Equipment

  • Morph Ball: The morph ball is the Alt-Form of Samus Aran and allows her to turn into a sphere 0.8 meters in diameter. It allows her to enter small tunnels and openings, which often lead to previously inaccessible areas.
You can use the Morphing Ball to make Samus roll into a ball and squeeze into narrow areas.
  • Missiles: Missiles have appeared in every single game to date in the Metroid series. They are a more powerful weapon than the normal uncharged Beam, dealing 4-5 times as much damage depending on the game, and are useful in destroying Brimstone walls, Zebetites, and Missile Blocks. The 2D side-scrolling Metroid titles feature rapid-firing missiles. In their usual form, the Missiles have a rocket shape with gray colouring and pink stripes. The total number of missiles Samus can acquire varies from game to game.
These are necessary for opening certain doors and give you a better chance against the powerful guardians. You'll be able to carry five missiles for each missile icon you collect.
  • Bombs: Bombs are the basic weapons for Samus Aran's Morph Ball. Although bombs are not of great use on many normal enemies, they can break certain objects and activate bomb slots. When Samus is near a detonated bomb, she will be propelled upwards. This is a Bomb Jump.
When you have the bombs, you can set explosive devices by making Samus roll into a ball and pressing the fire button. In addition to damaging enemies, Bombs can blow open certain sections of the floors and walls.
  • Charge Beam: The Charge Beam is a power-up that allows Samus to charge up her current beam and release a more potent version of it.
The charge item allows you to charge your beam and send out a super-powerful blast.
  • Super Missiles: The Super Missile is a weapon often found in the Metroid series that provides a stronger alternative to normal Missiles. It is usually one of the stronger components of Samus' arsenal.
  • Hi-Jump Boots: As indicated by the name, the Boots allow Samus Aran to jump much higher.
  • Spazer Beam: When shot, the beam splits into three lasers.
  • Varia Suit: The Varia Suit, alternatively referred to as Barrier Suit and Varia Feature, is a Power Suit upgrade. In general, the Varia Suit reduces damage taken and protects Samus Aran from extreme heat. The maximum temperature that the Varia Suit can protect against is unknown, but the Gravity Suit is generally required for some of the higher temperature liquids. The name "Varia" is a mistranslation of the word "barrier" (although the Return of Samus manual uses the correct translation), which describes its shielding properties; coincidentally, it also resembles the English words "variety" or "variable", referring to how the suit can handle a variety of temperatures, a trait demonstrated in Metroid Fusion.
  • Speed Booster: According to the Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission Instruction Manuals, the Speed Booster allows Samus to run at "supersonic speeds." The Speed Booster, as the name suggests, will greatly increase Samus's speed whilst she runs. She also becomes invincible, as noted in the Super Metroid instruction manual.
  • Ice Beam: The Ice Beam is one of Samus's signature beam weapons, it fires a potent beam that has the power to freeze most enemies. Due to Samus’ tech being superior to most other bounty hunters tech, her ice beam should be superior to the Judicator which approaches temperatures of absolute zero.
  • Reserve Tank: A Reserve Tank is a type of expansion exclusive to Super Metroid and Metroid: Samus Returns. As the name suggests, each Reserve Tank provides an "extra" energy reserve of 100 units, with a maximum reserve of 400 once Samus finds them all. They can be set to be used automatically once her base energy is reduced to zero, or to be used manually from the Samus Screen. Recharging Samus' energy at her ship and the Crystal Flash can refill the Reserve Tanks, though using an Energy Charge will not. She must otherwise collect Energy Capsules from defeated creatures to charge them, once her base Energy Tanks have been filled to capacity. In Samus Returns, when Samus's energy is depleted, the tank will automatically replenish 299 energy. The tank has indefinite usage and cannot be discarded unless a new save file is started. Using the Smash Bros. Samus and Samus Returns Samus amiibo also contain Missile and Aeion Reserve Tanks that will replenish Samus's Missile Ammo (50 regular Missiles, or 10 Super Missiles) and 500 Aeion.
  • Power Bombs: Power Bombs are one of Samus' most powerful weapons. They must be deployed via Morph Ball mode; a few seconds after being deployed, they detonate, destroying most enemies within a very large radius, often covering an entire screen or more. Only one power bomb can be deployed at a time. In Metroid Fusion, the blast also appears to cause a vacuum that can draw ordinary X Parasites (including ones that came from enemies killed by the blast itself) to the center of the blast. They are also capable of harming members of several Metroid strains.
  • Grappling Beam: The Grapple Beam, also known as the Grappling Beam in Super Metroid, is a beam weapon with tethering properties. It is used to latch onto certain surfaces, allowing Samus to swing from this point and reach areas that would be otherwise unreachable without the Screw Attack or Space Jump.
  • Wave Beam: The wave beam is a beam item for Samus that goes through objects and walls, effectively negating durability.
  • X-Ray Scope: The X-Ray Scope, also referred to as the X-Ray device is an exclusive item found in Super Metroid. It allows Samus Aran to see hidden passages and reveal destructible blocks, a similar function to the Power Bomb used in Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission. It is found in Brinstar.
  • Gravity Suit: The Gravity Suit is an upgrade for Samus Aran's Power Suit. As its name implies, the Gravity Suit's primary function is to negate extreme gravitational effects around its wearer, such as zero gravity in space.
  • Space Jump: The Space Jump is a highly advanced Chozo-designed movement system that allows Samus to Spin Jump repeatedly in midair.
  • Spring Ball: The Spring Ball is a power-up that allows Samus Aran to jump in Morph Ball form without Bomb Jumping.
  • Plasma Beam: The Plasma has the unique capability to pierce through multiple foes, ultimately obliterating them.
The most powerful of all the beams can destroy several targets at once.
  • Screw Attack: The Screw Attack is one of Samus Aran's most iconic and powerful Power Suit upgrades. It is an advanced movement system that allows Samus to emit energy waves from points on her armor while she somersaults into the air, turning her into a rotating energy blade of destruction, making her invincible in the process.

Other

Standard Tactics: SA-X will fight just like Samus Aran due to possessing her knowledge and memories.

Weaknesses: The X Parasites have no notable counter to Metroids and their life force absorption, making the metroids the one counter to the X Parasites.

Note: While the X Parasites and Phazon beings never directly interacted on screen in the Metroid universe, the sheer threat level the X Parasites are treated as in the Metroid Universe should put their primary abilities at a 1-C potency, Samus Aran herself view the X Parasites as such a threat that she is willing to sacrifice her life to take out all X Parasites, with Samus being aware of phazon beings. Thus their abilities Adaptation, Power Mimicry, and Possession are believed to be on a 1-C level and that they can affect beings with a physiology akin to the Chozo Ghost.
