I'm the king of the world!
~ Pharaoh Man

Background

Pharaoh Man is a Robot Master designed as an ancient Egyptian pharaoh that resembles Tutankhamun. He was originally created by Dr. Cossack with high resistance, agility, and adaptability to the dark to explore pyramids and other ancient ruins. When Dr. Wily forced Dr. Cossack to work for him, Pharaoh Man was modified to have extra attack power for his battle against Mega Man in Mega Man 4. His Special Weapon is the Pharaoh Shot, a sphere that is charged with solar energy.

In the game Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters, Pharaoh Man has new powers, being able to levitate, create a giant eye-shaped shield for additional defense, summon Astro Zombiegs that help him, and release waves of solar energy in two directions with the Pharaoh Wave.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Pharaoh Man’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Mega Man 4
Pharaoh Man is one of the eight bosses. The battle may be difficult without his weakness, Flash Stopper, or E-Tanks. Pharaoh Man will jump at Mega Man, throwing two Pharaoh Shots, which can be avoided by sliding out of his reach, so Mega Man avoids his landing and Pharaoh Shots. He can also charge up a Pharaoh Wave, which can be avoided by jumping over it if Pharaoh Man is at a lower altitude than Mega Man, or sliding if Pharaoh Man is at a higher altitude.

His weakness is the Flash Stopper, and while it doesn't inflict damage directly, it freezes him in place, and it is the only way of stopping him on his tracks and the easiest way to deal with him. It also gets damaged faster due to having less invincibility frames. A maximum of six shots can be landed when Pharaoh Man is frozen still in place by the Flash Stopper, and he can be defeated by activating the Flash Stopper five times minimum.

Mega Man IV
Paraoh Man is one the first four bosses. His strategy is similar to Mega Man 4.

Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters
Pharaoh Man is one of the six bosses from the "Recover the new parts!" course. He will defend himself with an eye-shaped shield and will throw two Pharaoh Shots at once when in the air. Pharaoh Man will throw two Pharaoh Waves at the player. When in danger, he will be shielded and will summon Astro Zombiegs to attack his opponent.

Mega Man's Soccer
Pharaoh Man is one of the eight team bosses in Capcom Championship. When his team is defeated, one Pharaoh Man joins Mega Man's team.

Rockman Strategy
Pharaoh Man appears twice as an enemy in Rockman Strategy, first as part of a wandering "tribe" with Napalm Man and Tomahawk Man. Later, he appears alongside Knight Man in aiding Bass and Treble in battle against Mega Man's team.

Codex Statistics

Grade: A

Tier: At least 8-B, Higher with Rage Power

Attack Potency: At least City Block level (Potency) (Fought against and harmed Mega Man, who can[6] fight[7] against[8] the[9] Robot[10] Masters[11] of Mega[12] Man 1[13], who cause multiple explosions encompassing this size[14]), Higher with Rage Power (When Robot Masters are damaged to about half their health, they become invulnerable for a few seconds and perform more powerful attacks)

Durability: At least City Block level (Can take hits from Mega Man)

Striking Strength: At least City Block Class (Potency), Higher with Rage Power

Lifting Strength: Class G (The Robot Masters are normally made to be on par or superior to Mega Man, who was able to hold up Dr. Wily's fortress at end of Mega Man 5[15], with Robot Masters such as Guts Man being superior in strength and Robot Masters such as Splash Woman having comparable feats such as lifting entire ships from the ocean[16])

Travel Speed: Massively Hypersonic (Can move this fast compared to Mega Man, who can keep up with Duo, who can travel around the earth destroying evil energy around this timeframe), Faster Than Light with Teleporters (Robot Masters teleporters should scale to Mega Man and Proto Man’s teleportation, where they are able to travel planets and solar systems in a short time frame[17], reaching this levels of speed)

Attack Speed: Massively Hypersonic (Can keep up with Mega Man, who is able to dodge lightning from Cloud Man[18], who uses natural cloud to ground lightning that doesn't appear instant from either sides perspective[19])

Reaction Speed: Massively Hypersonic Can keep up with Mega Man, who is able to dodge lightning from Cloud Man[20], who uses natural cloud to ground lightning that doesn't appear instant from either sides perspective[21])

Stamina: Mimics Limitless Stamina (As long as they are powered by solar energy. All Robot Masters bodies are powered by solar energy, effectively giving them limitless stamina and ammo[22][23][24][25])

Range: Standard Melee, Hundreds of Meters with attacks, Interplanetary with Teleporters (All robot masters naturally display teleportation through teleporters interplanetary distances[26])

Intelligence: Gifted Intelligence (Was created to explore pyramids alongside his large team of mummy-like "Mummira" robots. Boast high agility to help him dodge traps left behind by pyramids' ancient architects. Noted to be a charismatic robot and a strong leader. Can keep up with Mega Man in combat)

Powers and Techniques

Equipment

  • Shield: A shield he can expand out to block attacks and projectiles, can also use this shield to create a portal to teleport around.

Notable Techniques

  • Levitation: Either creates a green aura around him while levitating or creates a forcefield around him as he flies around freely.
  • Summoning: Summons Astro Zombiegs that help him, they come from the sky in coffins.
  • Pharaoh Shot: Pharaoh Shot is Pharaoh Man's Special Weapon from Mega Man 4. It shoots a small sphere of charged solar energy straightforward or diagonally. This is the only weapon besides the Mega Buster that can be charged in Mega Man 4 and Mega Man IV. It quickly charges solar energy in small amounts, eventually accumulating a large amount of energy that can be release as a destructive energy sphere.
  • Pharaoh Wave: Pharaoh Wave replaces Pharaoh Shot as the weapon in Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters. When used by Pharaoh Man, it releases two waves, one forward and one backwards. Also, when Pharaoh Man's giant eye is hit, he counters by releasing one wave from the eye. Pharaoh Wave is Gemini Man's weakness, and can hit the two Gemini Men at the same time.

Other

Standard Tactics: Pharoah Man will summon his shield to block attacks, if he gets knocked down he will use the shield as a portal to put him back on his feet, he will shoot around Pharaoh Shots or Pharaoh Waves, if he starts taking too much damage he will create a forcefield, fly around, and summon Astro Zombiegs to help him.

Weaknesses: Weak to Bright Man's flash stopper. If his data is corrupted, he will be incapable of coming back.

Trivia

Sphinx statue from the Rockman 4 prototype.
  • Pharaoh Man's dislike of raiders may be a reference to archaeology movies (such as Indiana Jones) and also a reference to the legendary "Pharaoh's curse" often wrought upon those who loot the pyramids.
    • This, however, is ironic and seemingly hypocritical of Pharaoh Man since he is essentially a tomb raider himself. Of course, he may view himself as an archaeologist while tomb raiders are usually referred to in the sense of looting tombs for profit.
  • Pharaoh Man appears as No. 26 (DWN-026) in the credits of Mega Man 4. This is actually Toad Man's number, who appears with Ring Man's number (DWN-029), who appears with Pharaoh Man's number (DWN-028).
  • Pharaoh Man's quote refers to how powerful the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt believed themselves to be. The Egyptians believed that the pharaoh was a god in human form and later to be believed as the descendants of Horus, the patron deity of Upper Egypt and the god of the Sun.
  • His stage in Mega Man 4 was supposed to have a sphinx sub-boss in the path containing the balloon item, but it was removed prior to the game's release.[145] In the final version, the only details left in the data are the snake on its forehead, its chin, and the sphere Mega Man is standing on.[146]
  • Pharaoh Man has the same signature pose as Drill Man.
  • The scene of Pharaoh Man punching Mega Man in the face, from the Mega Man cartoon, has become a fairly common meme on YouTube. One example of said meme is found here.
    • The above mentioned scene from the cartoon also gave him the honor of being one of the two Robot Masters (the other one being Crystal Man) who fought back even after having their weapon stolen by Mega Man.
    • In large part due to this meme, Pharaoh Man has gained one of the highest approval ratings of any Robot Master amongst fans of the series.
  • Despite having a snake statue, Ureaus, on his forehead in his official artwork and mugshot, on his in-game sprite, he appears to have a blue gem in place of it due to the small size.
  • Pharaoh Man is the only Robot Master from Mega Man 4 to appear on its American cover.
  • Pharaoh Man is the only boss from Mega Man 4 to deal less than 8 damage on contact - he does exactly half of that: 4.
  • In most of his appearances Pharaoh Man always has a green snake on his helmet. But in Rockman Strategy, his snake is purple/blue.

  5. Q. Do robots like those made by Dr. Wily or Dr. Cossack have self-awareness, and can they talk? And do they run on solar energy like Rockman does?
    A. I take it you’d like to know if Wily and Cossack’s robots possess “sentience”? Naturally, they each have a “consciousness”, although the level of every “cognitive circuit” embedded inside each one of them varies, producing as many different “personality” types as found in people… Just like you or I, they can speak, and have emotional responses like shyness, or anger, just as we do.
Regarding their energy systems, many of them do utilize “solar energy” in some way.

  67. By swapping out the program data of all the robots Dr. Wily has constructed, this robot is able to adapt other robots’ moves as its own. With the powers of all robots combined into one, this is truly one dreadful robot.
  68. This all-purpose robot can take on the same abilities of every other robot merely by switching its program data. Still, if it just copies the powers of robots that Rockman has already been able to defeat, one might expect for Rockman to overcome them again…
