"Mature Content"
This character or verse has mature themes and concepts, thus those of young age are ill-advised to look through these.

She was a Fernandez too, a warrior who came to fight the dark lord. We took her alive, and made her a vampire. [...] She had great spirit and struggled mightily against the curse. But now she is wholly a vampire, desperate for blood. Ha, what joy! Two cousins fighting to the death!
~ Actrise about Camilla Fernandez
One of Actrise's brood and Carrie's own Stepmother, Camilla only appears briefly during Carrie's journey, tormenting and taunting her to return to her family roots and become a witch herself. Camilla can summon in spirits by a simple smile (she calls it her " death grin"), and physical attacks are difficult to land as Camilla lives in the Astral plane, and her earthly body is completely ethereal. Recently vampiric, she strikes with force against her will, as she would never intentionally harm her family.
~ Camilla's description on the official European website for Castlevania 64

Background

Camilla Fernandez, also known as the "Fernandez Warrior," serves as a boss character in Castlevania (N64) and Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness. She is a member of the Fernandez family and the cousin of Carrie Fernandez. During her attempt to confront Dracula and his minions, Camilla was captured and turned into a vampire, falling victim to the very evil she sought to defeat.

Captured by Dracula's forces, Camilla Fernandez is vampirized, losing her humanity and becoming a servant of darkness. Her transformation leads her to face Carrie Fernandez and other protagonists as a powerful boss. Despite her new vampiric nature, traces of her former self may linger, adding a layer of tragedy to her role as an antagonist. Camilla demonstrates a strong connection to the Fernandez bloodline, which has a history of combating Dracula and the forces of evil.

In her boss encounters, Camilla uses her vampiric abilities to attack Carrie Fernandez. While specific details of her attacks vary between the two games, her fights are characterized by their intensity and connection to the narrative. Her ultimate defeat symbolizes not only a victory over Dracula's forces but also a poignant end to a once-heroic member of the Fernandez clan.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Camilla Fernandez’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Camilla Fernandez, Carrie's cousin, was taken captive during her assault on Dracula's Castle. The wicked witch Actrise turned Camilla into a vampire, employing her as an obstacle in Carrie's quest. Unable to find a cure for her vampirism, Carrie had no choice but to destroy her turned cousin. Despite any emotional attachments, Carrie remained resolute, offering a brief prayer for Camilla's soul before continuing her mission.

It remains unclear whether Camilla’s role was intended to emotionally destabilize Carrie or if Actrise chose her because of their similar powers. However, considering Dracula's minions' tendency to exploit their victims' emotions, particularly when compared to Reinhardt's battle with Rosa, it is more likely that emotional manipulation was the goal.

Golem with his ultimate can shoot out a mouth blast that vaporizes everything it touches as far as the eye can see getting these results[12]. Can harm and fight against enemies stronger then characters who can take hits from neutron bomb[13], that have a yield range of 1-10 kilotons of TNT)

Vampires can move so fast that the light itself cannot keep up with them, leaving an afterimage behind[22]. Alucard in his suppressed Genya Arikado form can still move so fast that an afterimage made of light is behind him[23])

Attack Speed: At most Faster Than Light (Can tag Carrie Fernandez[24], who can tag 1800s Dracula, who serves as the absolute evil, the opposite to God[25], where for God to be perfectly good, there must be a being of perfect darkness[26], being the entity opposite to God[27], making him faster then enemies such as the Sky Fish who moves so fast that it appears as a beam of light and is only slowed down when time is stopped[28] and the White Demon, who can move at the speed of light at short distances[29])

Powers and Techniques

Is a Creature of the Night, which gives:

Superhuman Physical Characteristics (Even the smallest creatures of the night can destroy a bridge[35], one of Dracula's bats easily destroyed a stone ground block[36]), Intimidation (Creatures of the nights appearances can cause one to have their body's cells cry out in terror[37]), Immortality (Ageless; The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something is their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however, dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[38]. Immortal Metaphysical Aspect; Creatures of the Night can continue to exist even as a spirit and use their spirit form to form bodies out of inanimate material around them[39]), Acausality (Causality Immunity; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[40]. With their souls being completely free from time[41]. The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something is their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however, dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[42]), Free Will (Creatures of the Night do not follow the hand of God and instead choose of their own free will[43]), Empowerment (Creatures of the night are empowered by the night[44], becoming stronger when it's night time[45]), Evolution (Creatures of chaos can inherit evil natures[46] awakening into stronger enemies with new abilities and less weaknesses[47]), Resurrection (Self-Resurrection; Creatures of chaos can be brought back to life from the power of hate[48]. This has also been shown with slain heads reviving as an angry wraith[49]), Regeneration (Mid-Godly overtime; Even the castle from Castlevania is a Creature of Chaos, [50] where they are always rebirth from Chaos with each rebirth, the creatures takes a new form[51], with this state being referred to as a "regeneration cycle"[52]), Invisibility (Creatures of Chaos possess a natural aura of darkness, which makes one unable to see those with an aura of darkness by the naked eye[53]), Time Manipulation (Passive; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[54]), Darkness Manipulation & Subjective Reality (Creatures of chaos very existence causes dark powers to flow beyond the control of the Elgos' grimoires, due to them collecting documented information on Dracula and his castle. Causing their power to materialize in the real world in the form of monsters[55]. With the real world and world of grimoires being one and the same[56]), Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (Passive; Creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to strengthen their dark powers greatly[57]. It is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[58]. Their vital souls are causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[59], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[60], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[61], where if the contents of the book change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[62]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[63]. With the real world and world of grimoires being one and the same[64]), Law Manipulation (Creatures of Chaos can alter grimoires, which do not adhere to the laws of reality[65]), Power Modification (Creatures of the night alterations of the Grimoire can greatly limit the powers of those far stronger than them, such as Jonathan Morris' power being limited due to the alterations[66]. The Chaos of the Grimoire destabilized the magic of the others[67]).

Resistance to Ice Manipulation & Absolute Zero (All enemies in Castlevania III: Dracula's curse can eventually break out of being frozen from Sypha's ice magic[68]. Along with this to protect against ice attacks in series, one normally wears rings that help them resist against absolute zero[69]), Time Manipulation (All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[70], with their souls being completely free from time[71]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[72], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[73]. Some creatures of chaos are immune to time stop, normally being boss-level creatures[74]), Fate Manipulation (All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[75], with their souls being completely free from time[76], with fate being a truth wound by time[77])

Is a[78] Vampire, which gives:

Superhuman Physical Characteristics (Vampires are considered far larger threats than standard creature of the night monsters[79]), Stealth Mastery (Vampires are able to attack stealthily in search of human blood[80]), Disguise Mastery (Vampires will sometimes disguise themselves[81] as villages in order to get near one[82]), Immortality (Ageless; Vampires defy God's decree that life should be limited, and exist for eternity[83], with Mathias noting he has eternal life[84]. Aeon notes that vampires exist for eternity[85]. Walter is noted to be a vampire that has eternal life[86]. The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something is their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however, dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[87]. Immortal Metaphysical Aspect; Vampires will someday come back to life despite them being killed due to being immortal[88]), Acausality (Causality Immunity; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[89]. With their souls being completely free from time[90]. The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something is their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however, dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[91]), Free Will (Vampires do not follow the hand of God and instead choose of their own free will[92], defying God's decree[93]), Enhanced Senses (Vampires can smell that Reinhardt Schneider and Carrie Fernandez smell different from the usual adventurer[94]), Surface Scaling (Vampires can stand on ceilings[95]), Flight (Vampires can either naturally levitate grow wings to fly[96], turn into a bat[97], or into mist[98]), Immersion (Vampires can infuse magic into paintings to increase their power[99]), Empowerment (Vampires are loved by the night, making them so powerful that vampires like Walter Bernhard never been defeated before Leon Belmont gained the vampire killer[100]. Noted by Leon that the night should help Joachim Armster as well due to him being a vampire, with the only reason it doesn't is due to Walter holding the ebony stone[101]), Resurrection (Even if one somehow manages to kill a vampire, they will someday come back to life despite them being killed due to being immortal[102]), Transformation (Shapeshifting; Vampires can assume the shape of a wolf, a bat or fog[103]. Vampires can disguise themselves as huamns[104]), Teleportation (Vampires possess the ability to teleport freely[105]. Even non-threatening vampires such as Rosa, fade out from view[106]), Power Suppression (Vampires can submerge their own vampiric powers if needed[107]), Life-Force Absorption (Vampires can consume one's lifeforce[108], allowing them to heal themselves through biting into a victim[109]), Vampirification (Vampires can turn others into vampires[110], Walter turned Rinaldo's daughter into a vampire[111]), Invisibility (Vampires possess natural aura of darkness, which makes one unable to see those with an aura of darkness by the naked eye[112]), Time Manipulation (Passive; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[113]), Animal Manipulation (Bats serve under the control of vampires[114], being freely spawnned by any vampire[115]), Cloth Manipulation (A vampire's blood can transform clothes, such as Hector combining a vampire's blood with a prince's clothes to get Dracula's clothes[116]), Electricity Manipulation (Vampires can sometimes have electricity form around them as they transform[117]), Soul Manipulation (The candles in Castlevania are people's souls that were taken by Death or by vampires[118]).

Resistance to Temperatures (Vampires bodies turn cold, with them feeling no heat[119]), Biological Manipulation (Vampires biological functions are no longer required for them[120]), Time Manipulation (All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[121], with their souls being completely free from time[122]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[123], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[124]),Death Manipulation: "Death" loses all meaning for Vampires, as they[125] defy God's decree that life should be limited, and exist for eternity[126]. Where even if one "kills" a vampire they will simply just come back as they are not bound to death[127]), Fate Manipulation (All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[128], with their souls being completely free from time[129], with fate being a truth wound by time[130]), Law Manipulation (Vampires defy God's decree that life should be limited, and exist for eternity[131])

Equipment

  • Staff: Camilla uses a staff, similar to Sypha's Belnades Staff, likely to use her magic with.

Notable Techniques

  • Blood Draining: Vampires can bite and drink the blood of their victims. Blood acts as a source of energy and life for vampires and reatures of the night, an example of this being Red Skeletons who endlessly[144] regenerate[145], from any kind[146] of damage due to it absorbing blood[147].
  • Transformation: Vampires are able to turn into bats, wolves, fog, and other sorts of creatures as they please.
  • Super Strength: Vampires are incredibly superhumanely strong, even ofr the average creature of the night, being noted to be stronger then even Werewolves.
  • Super Speed: Vampires can move incredibly fast, to where all of them leave behind light projections due to how fast they're moving, while they can control their speeds to even approach speeds such as sound. They are normally beyond even other creatures in the castle such as the White Demon who moves at the speed of light at top speed.

Other

Standard Tactics: Camilla floats around, shooting out three magical energy projectiles that home in on the target.

Weaknesses

Note

Trivia

  • The character design for Camilla Fernandez was originally meant to be used as a wreck of Sypha Belnades. This idea was abandoned during development of the game[166] ,but the music track used during her introductory cinematic is still referred to as "Sypha" on the game's official soundtrack release.
  • The name "Camilla" is also used to call the vampire Carmilla in some versions.
  • Even though her name is never mentioned in the game, she is still called Camilla Fernandez on the official European site of Castlevania 64.
    • Interestingly on the site, they call her Carrie's step-mother, while English localization calls her Carrie's cousin. The japanese name for her is simply just "Fernandez Warrior" thus her direct relation to Carrie is left amibigious.

KI: You should ask, why do they eat it! I've thought about this stuff.
I've actually thought about the candles. The candles are people's souls that were taken by Death or by the vampires. In Japan there are candles that represent life. So, when you release the souls from the candles by whipping them, they give you a "thank you" present. Thank-you hearts, or thank-you holy water.
