Standard Battle Assumptions
Introduction
The following are the assumptions to be made for battles in versus threads, if no alternative assumptions are specified by the thread creator. Assumptions alternative to these ones can be freely used, are equally legitimate, and threads using different assumptions can be added to profiles just like these ones can. Generally, it is preferable that the thread creator specify the assumptions he wants to use in the thread and adjust them in such a way that as fair a fight as possible can take place. However it should be noted that there will rarely ever be an out of universe fight that will be 100% fair. The following assumptions just try to make it as fair as possible without giving too much leeway to one side or the other.
Assumptions
Character version: The strongest version of a character that we have listed is used. The strongest version being defined as the one with the highest tier; if there are multiple versions with the same tier, then the most recent version if the most recent version is the strongest or has the most powers and abilities.
Victory Conditions: Killing the opponent permanently or to a point where it'd take them an enormous amount of time to come back (I.E. Link's Spirit of the Hero reincarnation taking 100 years), removing the opponent from the battlefield with them having no chance to come back under their abilities note that we do not go under the assumption that they will simply build an object to return back unless they have the tools available at the beginning of the battle (I.E. Lavos sending the three Gurus through time), knocking the opponent out or incapacitating the opponent by putting him in a state in which he can not harm the other fighter(s) for over a day (I.E. Ajins being put into a cave where their oxygen is removed and they revive to have their oxygen removed again putting them into an infinite death loop), and causing the character to no longer want to fight or talk them out of fighting (I.E. Frisk convincing monsters to no longer fight), are to be assumed as victory conditions. If the character is a natural coward and will run away from fights and not participate it will be considered a loss for them if it's agreed they will do it in the fight, though through the state of mind it will be less likely. If a character has tried all of their options and see no way of winning and decide to do a strategic retreat, that will count as a loss for them.
State of mind: In character, but willing to kill. The characters will employ their usual battle strategies, including flaws such as being casual, not opening up with their better abilities, or not using their power to their fullest extent, however, must be willing to kill the opponent even if they usually won't. Please note however that this does not mean the character is bloodlusted unless they naturally are in that state as they are still under their usual battle strategies. Furthermore characters will not give up of their own accord. That means a character that is uninterested and characters wouldn't simply become friends with each other. Though characters can concede if they see no chance in victory. This doesn't prevent a character being made to give up, because the other character manipulates them via things like, for example, mind control, fear inducement, psychological tricks, empathic manipulation, or social influencing.
Knowledge of the other character/verse: The fighters will have absolutely no prior knowledge of each other. The only thing they have is that they're fighting the opponent in the location.
Preparation time: None unless the key being used is a character with preparation time.
Equipment: Standard equipment. Optional Equipment can be discussed on thread.
Time: The time and date are chosen in such a fashion that all characters are at their strongest. Paradoxes like it being night for one character, while being day for another are acceptable here. If extreme advantages are generated via this regulation to one side, a balanced alternative should be discussed in the thread.
Location: Neutral Universe. Central Park, New York City. The location can be left during the course of battle. People are only around if the character uses them as a power source (I.E.), a means to amplify their stats (I.E. Maou absorbs the negative energy of those around him to grow stronger), or have a reliance on them (I.E. Yaldabaoth's reliance is humanity’s desire to be controlled). If extreme advantages are generated via this location to one side, a balanced alternative should be discussed in the thread. Please also note that despite them being in a neutral universe characters without Low Multiversal range are still assumed to be able to bring their summons over to them, this also adds on to characters that get informed by characters through intercoms. The neutral universe is also assumed to have a characters power work there even if the energy source of there's is restricted to their home universe.
Outside Influence: Heavily context based. In essence, no characters of either verse, aside from those participating in the battle, may influence the outcome of the battle in any way if they are not brought via an ability (I.E. blessings, calling upon some higher entities power for a spell, summoning familiars to battle for them, having another character as equipment, or having protection from the outside source in question). Though outside characters that are used to provide information to their character (I.E. Ottacon talking to Snake via codec calls, Navi giving Link the enemies weakness) are also allowed. For those who use characters to fight, such as the Pokemon trainers, they are allowed to use their teams, though it should be noted the other side is fully allowed to attack them instead of their familiars in order to win the fight.
Starting distance: The characters start as far away from each other as the highest range of the fighters is, but a maximum of 4 kilometers. For example, if one character has a range of 10 meter and the other has a range of 20 meter they start 20 meter apart. However if the range of one character is 10 meter and the range of the other is 5 kilometer, they start only 4 kilometer apart. If extreme advantages are generated via this distance to one side, a balanced alternative should be discussed in the thread. It should be noted that for characters that naturally exist in another universe, outside of space-time, a higher plane, or have abilities like Reality Seperation and Paradox Existence they are still under that state of existence (I.E. Under a match Yuri Honjo will still be in another universe while her illusionary avatar fights you).
Verse equalization: The mechanics of both verses are assumed to work the same way. Supernatural energies for both verses will be assumed to be the same and work on both sides (I.E. Ki from Dragon Ball and Chakra from Naruto being treated the same). So a supernatural energy that almost everyone in a Verse has, which is necessary to fight the characters of said Verse, will be assumed to be the equivalent energy that the opponents use in their techniques so that a proper fight can happen.
Equalization works highly on a case-by-case basis, so many relevant cases should be discussed in the versus thread itself.
Speed Equalized: Due to a large amount of profiles having characters with widely different speeds, threads will normally have the characters speeds be equalized. Though many are confused by what exactly it means so this will explain in-depth what the following term allows and disallows:
- Attack Speeds: First, attack speed refers to the movement speed of the attack itself. Normally this is identical to combat speed, especially in fist-fights, sword fights, etcetera, and isn't worth mentioning as any different, or whether or not it is unequalised. However, projectile attacks often move faster than the user could themselves move or react to (I.E. average human speed human with a gun shooting supersonic bullets). Thus attack speeds are unequalized in matches. It should be noted that both characters will be equalized to the character's speed that is slower then the attack speed in the event that a character has lower reactions/combat. (I.E. Characters from Katana Zero are Relativistic with Speed of Light Attack speed, thus under speed equalized both characters will be equalized to Relativistic).
- Flight Speeds: Flight speeds are highly context dependent, if the character is naturally faster while flying then they are allowed to keep their flight speed, however if it's comparable to their normal speed then it will be equalized.
- Speed Amplifications: Speed amplifications are fully allowed.
- Speedsters: Speedster characters like The Flash are commonly known use their speed in fights to battle against enemies. Thus equalizing their speed seems very counter-intuitive. For speedster characters their combat and reactions will be equalized with the other character under speed equalized but their travel speed will remain unequalized. Note this means that both characters will be equalized to the speedster's reactions so that they're able to properly use their travel speed efficiently. Speedsters are characters that fall under this category.
- Conclusion: Under regular matches of speed equalization every speed stat is equalized except for attack speed. Speedsters do not have their travel speed equalized.
Some Notes
- For speed equalization if a character naturally has Extra-Temporal or Instantaneous speed under speed equalization gets lowered to below those speed levels one cannot argue in a thread they won't be able to move in timeless voids or realms that require Extra-Temporal speed to move. They will be assumed able to move in those due to naturally having that speed.
- Characters whose powers work in specific places (I.E. Badeline only existing in Celeste Mountain, Ren Amamiya having his powers in the metaverse, etc.) will be assumed to be in those places under SBA along with the standard location (Think of the battlefield like Yin Yang Island).
