Introduction

While The Codex allows many profiles from many verses official and nonofficial (check Rules for Fanon Profiles for further info on nonofficial) there are still profiles and verses not allowed on this wiki. The reasons are as followed.

Profiles Allowed

Profiles are allowed to be made on this wiki if they are:

  • Officially published or licensed works that are of fiction: Includes books, games, shows, web series, and other creative works that have been officially released.
  • Able to be viewed, read, or played online, and has an official continuity: Works must have a defined, recognized storyline.
  • Any serialized works of fiction: Stories released in multiple installments that together form a complete narrative.
  • Profiles that follow Rules for Fanon Profiles: See that page for full requirements.

Examples: The Angry Video Game Nerd, Smosh, Filthy Frank, A Pretty COAL Adventure

Profiles Not Allowed

Profiles are not allowed to be made on this wiki if they are:

  • Works of nonfiction: Exceptions include:
    • Animals, weapons, or theoretical events (e.g., a profile for a Supernova).
    • Profiles based on real people of significant historical impact (requires faction profiles for groups, e.g., Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich, as with this example, this is a significantly negative historical impact, both negatvie and positives are allowed).
  • Profiles hosting one-shots for original characters or stories: Single, isolated creations with no continuing development.
  • Series where the story is very incoherent and lacks any real way to measure anything: Often seen in works written for extreme power-scaling without coherent worldbuilding or consistency.
  • AI Generated Stories: Any series where it's story was made through the use of AI generation.

Examples:

  • A biography page on Albert Einstein (nonfiction).
  • An original character from a single short fanfic posted online with no follow-up (one-shot).

Composite Profiles

Initially, we allowed composite profiles of all kinds back when the wiki was run differently, but now that our primary purpose is an indexing wiki, composite profiles are for the most part, banned. Though there are differing levels of "composite" that we allow and don't allow.

Allowed Composite Profiles

Composite profiles that are fully allowed.

  • Species profiles: A single profile representing the shared traits of a fictional species.
    • Examples: Klingons (Star Trek), Pokémon species like Pikachu, or Naruto’s Uchiha Clan.
  • Fragmented continuities: Characters from works with minimal continuity (e.g., gag or sketch comedy shows) may have composite profiles combining all official appearances, except for clearly separate reboots.
    • Examples: Pucca combines all appearances except the official reboot; Looney Tunes characters like Bugs Bunny across classic shorts.
  • Theoretical scientific ideas: Concepts such as “Composite Human” or “Combined Human” that represent an amalgamation of average human traits.
    • Examples: Composite Human (general human abilities), Combined Human (theoretical human averages used for analysis).

Disallowed Composite Profiles

Composite profiles that are not allowed.

  • Fanon composites: Any profile that merges entirely separate versions or interpretations from across unrelated timelines, continuities, or fan creations.
    • Examples:
      • “Son Goku (Composite)” merging all anime, manga, movie, and game incarnations into one.
      • “Samus Aran (Composite)” combining all suits and upgrades into a single unified profile instead of separate tabbers to explain each era.

Common Misunderstandings

  • Parody profiles: Allowed if the parody has its own continuity and can be meaningfully documented; disallowed if it is a one-off joke with no real context.
  • Semi-official works: If licensed or acknowledged by the rights holder, they may be treated as official; otherwise, they are fanon and must follow those rules.
  • Loosely canon spin-offs: Profiles can exist if the spin-off still has consistent traits and events; if not, they may be merged under a composite only if rules permit.

Quick Reference Guide

If unsure whether a profile is allowed, follow this decision path:

  • Is the work fiction?
    • No → Not allowed unless it is an exception under nonfiction rules.
    • Yes → Proceed.
  • Is the work officially published/licensed, or does it follow fanon rules?
    • No → Not allowed.
    • Yes → Proceed.
  • Does it have a coherent continuity or recognized version to base stats on?
    • No → Not allowed unless an exception (e.g., gag series composite).
    • Yes → Allowed.
  • Is it a composite profile?
    • Yes → Check composite rules to see if the type is permitted.
    • No → Allowed.

Some Misunderstandings

  • A series being badly written or having poor writing is not enough reason for it to be banned, however cases of verses being bigoted and such can lead to soft bans.
