So what if I’m a puppet? Once upon a time... you were too!
~ Kadaj to Cloud Strife

Background

Kadaj is the leader of the Remnants of Sephiroth, who serves as the personification of Sephiroth’s will and cruelty. Following Sephiroth’s defeat at the hands of Cloud Strife at the end of the original Final Fantasy VII, he decided to return in the form of three distinct avatars, who would adopt different parts of his personality.

Born as a puppet alongside two other brothers (Loz and Yazoo), Kadaj’s main goal on the mortal world was to not only spread the terrible plague of Geostigma, but also locate and join with the head of his “mother,” Jenova; doing so would allow for a final Reunion, that would bring Sephiroth back to the living.

Kadaj holds a terrible grudge against the one who he considers his “older brother,” Cloud Strife, and thus tracks him down and attacks him as many times as possible during his search for Jenova. After a large-scale fight through the planet against Cloud and his friends, Kadaj was finally able to recover Jenova’s head within Midgar.

After a brief fight with Cloud Strife, the young Remnant lept from a tower and finally combined himself with Jenova’s head; rebirthing the former SOLDIER, Sephiroth. However, much to the dismay of those who fought for Jenova, Sephiroth was once again defeated by Cloud.

With Sephiroth defeated, he shed his body and died, seemingly for good; transforming back into Kadaj. Cloud held Kadaj as the boy died, listening to the voice of Aerith Gainsborough (who he believed to be Jenova) calling him into the Lifestream. Eager to join his mother, Kadaj faded away into the Lifestream once and for all, alongside Loz and Yazoo.

Codex Statistics

Tier: High 3-A

Name: Kadaj

Origin: Final Fantasy VII

Sex: Male

Age: Around 2 years old, mentally a teenager

Classification: Remnant of Sephiroth, Embodiment of Sephiroth’s Will

Alignment: Chaotic Evil (The Remnants of Sephiroth are each extremely immature and represent merely fragments of Jenova's destructive nature. They each have little regard for anything around them, needlessly destroying whatever they can for the sake of bringing despair to the people of Gaia. They're also extremely selfish, hoping that through enough senseless destruction, they can gain acceptance from their mother)

Dimensionality: 3-D

Attack Potency: Multi Supercluster level (Is stated to be just as powerful as Sephiroth during the original game, who can create a dimension containing starry skies and multiple galaxies. He is also consistently stated to be the strongest character in the series, placing him above Bahamut Fury, who can also create a dimension with a starry sky, and Knights of the Round, which can destroy its own dimension containing a galaxy cluster)

Durability: Multi Supercluster level

Striking Strength: Multi Supercluster Class

Lifting Strength: Athletic Human

Travel Speed: Athletic Human (Is comparable to Cloud Strife, who can run at similar speeds to a Chocobo; Chocobo are said in the Dissidia Final Fantasy Museum to run at 20 mph), Superhuman with Motorcycle (The average motorcycle can reach speeds between 80 and 165 mph)

Combat Speed: FTL+

Reaction Speed: FTL+ (Is stated by Nomura to be comparable to Sephiroth during the original game; Sephiroth could react to the comet of his Super Nova)

Stamina: Superhuman (Kadaj was able to enact his plan over several days, and even fight against incredibly powerful people such as Cloud Strife, without looking the least bit tired; to the point where he was still able to consider everything a game)

Range: Standard Melee, Extended Melee with Souba, Far Higher with Materia and Geostigma

Intelligence: Genius (Kadaj is able to proficiently understand and use different types of Materia through just absorbing it into his body. He is also able to keep up with Cloud Strife in combat for a good while, who has been fighting for years at this point)

Powers and Techniques

Spirit Energy Physiology, which includes: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Blessed (Everyone born into the world is blessed with Spirit Energy), Sheer Will (Willpower alone can be enough to fight off Mako poisoning, and the will of Jenova. Those with a strong enough will can retain their sense of self after dying and returning to the Lifestream), Memory Manipulation, Energy Manipulation, Rage Power, & Aura (Limit Breaks are born of memories, are comprised of Spirit Energy, and are unleashed when the user's anger is pushed to the limit. They give off an aura when used), Non-Standard Interaction (Characters can interact with the souls of the Gi Tribe), Regeneration Negation (Mid-High; Jenova can regenerate itself fully so long as its cells remain, as Cloud Strife participates in Jenova's Reunion despite only containing her cells. Despite this, pieces of Jenova defeated by the heroes were unable to enact the Reunion), Immortality Negation (Type 3; Can completely kill pieces of Jenova, preventing them from regenerating), Accelerated Development (When Sephiroth fought the party far earlier than he was supposed to, the main characters could still contend with him, even after Sephiroth absorbed the Whispers and became stronger than he had ever been)
Weapon Mastery (Kadaj is proficient with his Souba blade), Acrobatics, Incorporeality (As an extension of the Negative Lifestream, Kadaj can become intangible if he chooses), Vehicular Mastery (Kadaj can ride a motorcycle), Summoning (Kadaj can summon Shadow Creepers), Shapeshifting (Kadaj can turn into black smoke), Creation (Kadaj is able to materialize things from the Negative Lifestream), Mind Manipulation (Kadaj can control the minds of those infected with Jenova cells), Telepathy (Kadaj is able to read the minds of those he touches), Perception Manipulation (Kadaj can appear to others as if he is someone from their memories, in order to trick them), Fear Manipulation (Kadaj can instill fear on others), Healing & Biological Manipulation (Kadaj can take bodily pain away from people), Pain Manipulation (Kadaj can give pain back to those he took it away from), Telekinesis (Kadaj can move things with his mind), Teleportation (Kadaj can teleport)

Spirit Energy Physiology, which grants Resistance to: Mind Manipulation & Soul Manipulation (Those with high willpower can resist succumbing to Jenova's will, which passively takes over one's mind and eats away at the soul, and can prevent their mind from shattering), Poison Manipulation (High willpower can prevent the toxicosis that comes with the exposure to Jenova Cells), Power Mimicry & Power Absorption (Limit Breaks cannot be copied by others. Only Zack Fair can copy Limit Breaks, though he is noted to be the only exception to this), Corruption (Types 1 & 2; Several main characters have been exposed to high amounts of Mako energy, and never became Makonoid monsters), Biological Deconstruction & Soul Manipulation (Main characters have fallen into the Lifestream and returned unscathed, without being forcefully diffused or dissolved into it, or having their spirit be eroded and dissipated), Heat Manipulation & Radiation Manipulation (Can withstand Super Nova without any negative effects of heat or radiation), Limited Disease Manipulation (Those with a will to live are unaffected by Geostigma, which infects those with a weak will)

Equipment

Weapons/Vehicles

  • Souba: This is Kadaj’s primary (and only known) weapon. It is a bladed weapon that resembles a katana, although it had two blades parallel to one another. Kadaj materialized this weapon from the Negative Lifestream.
  • Motorcycle: Much like his brothers, Kadaj has a motorcycle that he uses to travel through the planet. Also much like his brothers, Kadaj is able to perform incredibly bombastic and reckless stunts that would be virtually impossible for a normal person.
  • Shadow Creepers: Vicious and unsympathetic quadrupeds who were created from the Negative Lifestream, and can be summoned by Kadaj through waves of black smoke. These creatures are so vicious, that even if they are seriously injured or mutilated, they will continue chasing their target. Furthermore, anyone in contact with these creatures will be infected with Geostigma.

When Loz made his way into the Sector 5 church and faced off against Tifa Lockhart, he was able to acquire a box containing all of Cloud Strife’s Materia, which he brought back to Kadaj and Yazoo. Kadaj absorbed a few of these Materia into his body, with these being the Materia we know he absorbed:

  • Fire Materia: A small green orb of magic materia that gives Kadaj access to the spells; Fire, Fire2, and Fire3. This allows for him to shoot blasts of fire.
  • Lightning Materia: A small green orb of magic materia that gives Kadaj access to the spells; Bolt, Bolt2, and Bolt3. This allows him to shoot bolts of electricity.
  • Bahamut SIN Materia: A small red orb of summon materia that gives Kadaj access to summoning the gigantic dragon, Bahamut SIN. As the second most powerful of the Bahamut summons, it has access to the devastating Petaflare attack.

  • Notable Techniques

    • Geostigma: Also called Jenova’s Memetic Legacy, Geostigma is a horrible plague that Kadaj can inflict on others. Those infected with Geostigma will become infected with S-Cells and thus be subject to the Reunion. Those infected with Geostigma become extremely physically weak, and experience intolerable pain in the affected area that secretes a black ooze.

    Other

Weaknesses: Kadaj is very arrogant and single-minded, ignoring basically anyone or anything in order to secure Jenova’s head. He is also incredibly prone to outbursts of anger, due to his jealousy of Jenova “favouring” Sephiroth.
