Background

Son Goku, born Kakarot, is a Saiyan raised on Earth and the overall main protagonist of the Dragon Ball series. Originally was sent to Earth as an infant, Kakarot would be adopted by Grandpa Gohan who named him Son Goku. A head injury at an early age alters Goku's memory, ridding him of his initial destructive nature and allowing him to grow up to become one of Earth's greatest defenders. He constantly strives and trains to be the greatest warrior possible, which has kept the Earth and the universe safe from destruction many times.

Dark Empire Saga In the manga, one of the Dark Dragon Balls travels back to the Battle of Namek and merges with Frieza. With the enhanced power of the Dragon Ball, the newly transformed Xeno Frieza easily defeats Super Saiyan Goku. To fix the timeline, Xeno Goku and Xeno Trunks arrive to aid Goku in his fight against Xeno Frieza. When Xeno Frieza enters his 100% Full Power form to defend against two Super Kamehamehas from Xeno Goku and Super Saiyan Goku, the attacks create an opening. This allows Xeno Trunks to slip behind Xeno Frieza and sever him in half, mirroring the way Xeno Frieza's Death Saucer had previously struck in the original timeline, knocking the Dark Dragon Ball away from him. The battle then continues as it was supposed to, with the wounded Frieza pleading for Goku's mercy. Eventually, the timeline is restored to its proper state. Prison Planet Saga After the Tournament of Power, Goku and Vegeta resume their training with Whis on Beerus' planet. Meanwhile, Future Trunks and Mai travel back in time, and Trunks trains alongside Goku and Vegeta. However, things take a drastic turn when Future Trunks is kidnapped and taken to the Prison Planet. Goku, Vegeta, and Mai immediately embark on a mission to rescue him. Upon their arrival at the Prison Planet, Goku encounters an alternate version of himself, known as Xeno Goku. Both Gokus notice the unique forms the other possesses—Goku has Super Saiyan Blue, while Xeno Goku has Super Saiyan 4. Curious to see who is stronger, they decide to spar. The battle is intense, and both seem evenly matched at first, but ultimately, Goku emerges victorious, with Xeno Goku acknowledging that Goku is a step above him. Goku then inquires further, but Xeno Goku reassures him that they are on the same side. At this point, Fu appears and explains the situation—if they want to escape the Prison Planet, they need to collect seven special Dragon Balls scattered across the prisoners. In the anime, the situation escalates when they are confronted by the evil Saiyan Cumber. Goku, in Super Saiyan 2, challenges Cumber. However, the exposure to Cumber's malevolent ki causes Goku to lose control of himself, and he transforms into Super Saiyan: Berserk, with his focus shifting from Cumber to attacking Vegeta. Future Trunks arrives with Cooler, and Cooler quickly transforms into Golden Cooler. With his enhanced strength, Cooler defeats Goku with a single punch, bringing him back to his senses. Mai then throws Potara Earrings to Goku and Vegeta, allowing them to fuse into Vegito to fight Cumber. The battle reaches a climax as Vegito exhausts his energy during the fight. Unversal Conflict Saga After the Tournament of Power, Goku is saved by the Grand Minister, who takes him to Zeno's planet, where he provides Goku with attire resembling his own. From there, the Grand Minister transports him to Universe 11, where his unexpected arrival surprises both his allies and enemies. In the anime, without uttering a word, Goku immediately enters his Ultra Instinct Sign state and easily swats Oren—currently possessing Vegeta’s body—away from Future Trunks to protect him. Zamasu and Hearts observe the display of Goku's immense Godly power. Enraged by his defeat, Oren attempts to strike back, but he fails to land a single blow. Goku effortlessly separates Oren from Vegeta with a single punch and subsequently blasts away an approaching Kamin. He then locks eyes with Hearts, prepared for his next opponent. As Goku hovers in front of Hearts, he confirms that he is the person he had been warned about. At the same time, Kamin and Oren attempt to attack together, but Goku easily overwhelms them with his strength and reflexes, knocking both of them down once again. In a desperate move, Kamin and Oren merge into the formidable Kamioren. Goku briefly engages in battle with the merged warrior but is interrupted by the appearance of Lagss. She emerges from a large, pointed shard of glass, which Hearts sends toward Goku. Goku exerts all of his strength to destroy the shard, causing him to revert to his normal form in the process. Lagss then uses the broken pieces to attack Goku, severely injuring him, causing him to fall to the ground. Fortunately, Trunks arrives just in time to save Goku from a fatal blow. Though Goku has already endured considerable damage, he continues to fight alongside Trunks, only to be overpowered again and further wounded. Hearts, continuing to provoke Goku, vows to draw out his true Ultra Instinct power. In response, Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan and charges directly at Hearts, but once again, he is quickly subdued by the Gravity Burst technique. At that moment, Shin teleports in and helps Goku, Trunks, and Vegeta escape the battle. The group arrives in Universe 7, where Piccolo and Android 17 join their efforts to confront the Core Area Warriors. Goku, determined to defeat Hearts, transforms into a Super Saiyan and heads straight for him, but is once again blasted to the ground by Hearts' Gravity Burst. After Hearts powers up further, Goku picks himself up, ready for another round. The battle rages on, and Goku powers up into his Super Saiyan Blue form. Now on equal footing with Hearts, he engages in a fierce battle but is still pushed back by Hearts’ relentless attacks. The two acknowledge that neither is fully utilizing their power. Goku then charges forward, landing a powerful blow to the gem, shattering Kamioren into pieces. Exhausted, Goku reverts to his normal state. As Hearts merges with the Universe Seed, Fused Zamasu appears to defend him. Zamasu effortlessly takes down the entire Dragon Team, leaving them incapacitated. Goku, despite struggling to fight back, tries to regroup. However, he is unable to transform due to the exhaustion from using Ultra Instinct, leaving him at a significant disadvantage. Zamasu soon twists Goku's arm behind his back. At this critical moment, Jiren and Hit arrive to save Goku and the others, but they are pushed back by the powerful pulse from the newly completed Universe Seed. Universe Creation Saga In the anime, Goku stumbles upon a strange bird named Tokitoki at Capsule Corporation. According to his prophecy, the bird's presence would lead to the destruction of all universes. The Gods of Destruction, ready to destroy everyone, are halted by Beerus, who takes responsibility for managing his own universe. Goku and Vegeta then ascend into the skies to face Beerus, transforming into Super Saiyan Blue to prepare for battle. Goku immediately charges at Beerus, unleashing a series of powerful attacks, but Beerus effortlessly dodges and counters, knocking Goku away with ease. Before the fight can escalate any further, Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta arrive and point out the roots of the Universe Tree, which begins to absorb energy. Mistaking Janemba for another of Fu's allies, Goku and Vegeta transform into Super Saiyan Blue to battle him, but Janemba proves to be a formidable opponent. His ability to analyze the fighting styles of alternate counterparts makes him nearly impossible to land a blow on. Despite their combined efforts, Goku and Xeno Goku struggle to defeat Janemba, but finally, they land a punch together, briefly gaining the upper hand before Salsa and Putine intervene. Caught once more in a battle with Janemba, Goku, Vegeta, Xeno Trunks, and Xeno Pan pool their Saiyan power into Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta, granting them the strength to enter the Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker form. In this enhanced state, the two Saiyans manage to defeat Janemba, overpowering him and ending the battle. However, the victory is short-lived as the group is suddenly teleported to the location of the Universe Tree thanks to Putine's magic. When they arrive at the Universe Tree, Fu appears, followed by Towa, who teleports everyone away, leaving only Vegeta, Goku, and Fu behind at the Time Rift. Vegeta attempts to confront Fu, but he is quickly overpowered when Fu uses Cumber's energy to turn him Berserk. New Space-Time War Saga After Fu successfully creates a new universe, Goku regains consciousness in a completely unfamiliar, eerie version of West City on Earth. Disoriented and confused, he wonders what exactly is happening and why everything feels so different. As he attempts to make sense of the situation, he is unexpectedly ambushed by the Frieza Force, which includes none other than Frieza and Meta-Cooler. Goku, determined to escape this strange new reality, forms an unlikely alliance with Hearts, a powerful figure also trapped in this universe. In order to stand a chance against the Golden Brothers, Goku taps into Ultra Instinct Sign, an incredible form that pushes him to his limits. With his newfound power, Goku easily overwhelms Frieza, knocking him back and forcing him into retreat. However, just as the battle seems to be winding down, something shocking happens—the Golden Brothers are unexpectedly merged with the power of a Dark Dragon Ball, which grants them a significant boost in strength. This new power allows them to quickly turn the tide of the battle, and they begin to pressure both Goku and Hearts. Just when it appears that victory is slipping from their grasp, the scene takes a dramatic turn with the sudden arrival of Broly. The mighty Saiyan effortlessly dispatches Frieza, Meta-Cooler, and the Golden Brothers with astonishing ease, leaving them in a heap of defeat. However, Broly's battle doesn't end there as he sets off in pursuit of the mysterious Warrior in Black, while the Crimson-Masked Saiyan exits the scene. Exhausted and bruised, Goku collapses onto the ground, unable to continue the fight. Hearts, seeing Goku's condition, tosses him a Senzu Bean, helping him recover his strength. Grateful for the boost, Goku thanks Hearts as he brings out the Four-Star Dragon Ball. Hearts suggests that if the Senzu Bean still has its healing properties in this strange space-time, then the Dragon Balls should be just as effective. They come to a decision: they must collect all the Dragon Balls and use them to find a way out of this alternate universe. With that in mind, they head to Capsule Corporation, where Goku retrieves the Dragon Radar and begins scanning for Dragon Balls. As the radar hums to life, Goku detects two signals: one belonging to Hearts, and the other coming from somewhere high above them. Without hesitation, Goku and Hearts teleport to Planet Vegeta, where they are immediately confronted by the Crimson-Masked Saiyan. The figure boldly announces that he is Goku's opponent and transforms into Super Saiyan Rosé. Goku, after recognizing the transformation, realizes that this is Goku Black, somehow revived through unknown means. Goku Black arrogantly proclaims that he will prove himself superior to his original counterpart and defeat Goku once and for all. Together, Goku and Vegeta manage to overpower their foe, landing a decisive blow that sends Goku Black crashing into a nearby building. However, their victory is short-lived, as Goku's Ultra Instinct state begins to fade. The Crimson-Masked Saiyan, now in his Full Power Super Saiyan Rosé form, quickly retaliates, and Goku and Vegeta find themselves unable to match his overwhelming strength. With no other options, they decide to fuse once again, creating the powerful warrior Gogeta. Together, Gogeta faces off against the formidable opponent and ultimately defeats him, but the fusion is brief, and they defuse soon after. With their power, he uses them to send everyone back to their original dimension, escaping the confines of the Pseudo Universe. Goku suddenly finds himself back in the Crack of Time, where a younger version of Fu appears, now having absorbed Dogidogi. When Vegeta arrives, the two fuse into Gogeta once again and fight alongside Xeno Gogeta. However, the two Gogetas are quickly overpowered, and the fusion is undone. Fu, realizing the threat that fusion poses, casts the Vegetas into a dark vortex to prevent them from merging again. Just as things seem dire, Goku and Xeno Goku are aided by Chronoa, who appears just in time. She heals their injuries and instructs them to combine their powers. This figure informs Goku that he has been selected to participate in the "Super Space-Time Tournament," an event designed to bring together the strongest warriors from across every space-time. Naturally, Goku, ever eager for a new challenge, is immediately thrilled at the idea of the tournament and accepts the invitation without hesitation. The Mysterious Guide then teleports Goku away to the tournament's location. Upon arrival, Goku is reunited with several familiar faces: his son Gohan, his longtime friend Piccolo, his rival Vegeta, and other formidable warriors including Hit, Jiren, and even Yamcha. The excitement builds as everyone gathers together in anticipation of the battles to come. Soon after, the Mysterious Guide reappears to explain the rules of the tournament, which are quickly understood by all the participants. Once the rules are set, everyone is teleported to the battlefield, where the tournament is set to take place. As Goku enters the arena, he soon encounters his alternate counterpart from another timeline, Xeno Goku. The two warriors greet each other with a shared enthusiasm for the prospect of fighting one another once again. They face off against an opponent they recognize all too well—the Super Saiyan 3 Warrior in Black. This new foe, who radiates dark energy, transforms into Ultra Instinct Sign, mirroring Goku’s own transformation. Goku, sensing the unique nature of his opponent, asks for the chance to fight him alone, believing that, as a fellow Saiyan, this battle will be different. Before the fight can escalate, the Warrior in Black reveals that he knows Goku’s true Saiyan name, but refuses to clarify how he is aware of this knowledge. The battle between Goku and the Warrior in Black is intense, with Goku managing to hold his own despite the immense power of his opponent. After a fierce beam struggle, Goku is ultimately able to overpower him and emerge victorious, sending the Warrior in Black reeling. After his victory, Goku makes his way to the Time Nest, where he finds Chronoa, the Supreme Kai of Time, seemingly defeated by Aeos, who has unleashed her full power in the battle. Goku looks at Aeos, thanking her for hosting the tournament but asking that she refrain from erasing any timelines, as there are still living beings within them. Aeos, however, dismisses his plea and attempts to use her powers to freeze him in place. In response, Goku swiftly teleports behind her, transforming into his Ultra Instinct Sign form to gain the upper hand. The two engage in a brutal battle, with Aeos using her incredible powers to try and subdue Goku. However, Goku, ever resourceful, uses Instant Transmission to appear in front of her at close range and unleashes a devastating Kamehameha. The blast strikes Aeos at point-blank range, but she remains unfazed, acknowledging the true danger that Goku represents. With determination in her eyes, Aeos vows to eliminate him, setting the stage for an even more intense confrontation.

Flying Nimbus: Flying Nimbus is a magical, yellow cloud that serves as a way of transportation. Goku obtains the Nimbus from Master Roshi as compensation for saving Turtle. It served Goku and his sons well throughout Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, by acting as a way for them to fly around at high speeds without using up any energy.

Senzu Beans: Senzu Beans are mystical beans with immense rejuvenation properties, being capable of healing entire wounds, such as one's stomach being punctured.

Zeno Button: Zeno's Button is a teleportation device that would summon Zeno or Future Zeno to the location the user is at. On the other side there is another button where the user will be transported to Zeno. When Goku came to see Zeno, he invited him to come to Earth sometime, so Zeno gave him a button where Zeno would appear. Later in the Future timeline Goku thought he had another Senzu Bean only for it to turn out that it was Zeno's button. Goku used it to summon Future Zeno in order to erase Infinite Zamasu. Sometime later, Goku thought about reminding Zeno of the upcoming tournament. Beerus, however, was skeptical, even when Goku revealed the alternate button of teleporting himself to Zeno. Threatening to kill Goku, Goku tricked Beerus and teleported himself to Zeno.

Notable Techniques

Rock, Scissors 'N' Paper: A technique taught to Goku by Grandpa Gohan which employs one of three attack styles; either a closed-fist assault, a two-finger jabbing assault, or an open-palm thrust assault. It was Goku's signature attack early on during his childhood, showcasing his playful and energetic fighting style. Though this move had its charm and effectiveness in early fights, it was eventually overshadowed by the more powerful Kamehameha after Goku learned the technique from Master Roshi.

Double Axe Hand: A powerful physical technique in which Goku cups his hands together and rears them back before delivering a devastating double-fisted strike. This move is known for its sheer impact, capable of inflicting significant damage to the opponent. Ki Blast: A fundamental energy technique where Goku gathers a small amount of ki and launches it as a blast towards his opponent. While simple in its execution, the Ki Blast serves as a versatile attack for both offensive and defensive purposes, allowing Goku to keep enemies at a distance or force them to react.

Kiai: A technique in which Goku uses his ki to create shockwaves of air that can strike opponents at mid-range. The Kiai is an extension of his ability to manipulate energy, allowing him to apply pressure to enemies even without physical contact. This technique is often used to disrupt the flow of battle or force the opponent to retreat momentarily.

Kamehameha: Goku’s signature move, the Kamehameha is a devastating energy wave unleashed from his cupped hands. Goku first learned this technique from Master Roshi, and over time, he has refined and enhanced it to deal with increasingly powerful foes. The Kamehameha can be charged to increase its power, and Goku often uses it as his go-to technique for both offensive and defensive purposes.

Spirit Bomb: One of Goku’s most powerful and iconic attacks, the Spirit Bomb allows him to gather energy from all living things around him, channeling it into a massive sphere of concentrated energy.

Kaoi-ken: Goku learns this technique while training under King Kai after dying against Raditz. While using it and any of its multipliers, Goku's various capacities and techniques are all proportionally increased. However, the strain of using too high a multiplier and/or for too long can be dangerous and greatly damage his body. As such, he ceased using it after his gaining Super Saiyan. While he can combine the two powers, Goku never tried this while alive as doing so could lead to near-certain death. Later, however, with his Super Saiyan Blue, taking advantage of his divine form's superior energy control and more naturally calm mindedness, he was able to use this technique more regularly.

Super Saiyan: Goku achieves this form in a rage after Frieza killed Krillin. In this form, Goku's muscle and height slight increase and his skin turns lighter. His eyes become noticeably sterner and more defined with green eyes. His hair becomes blond and stands with no loose strands. His power also generates a yellow aura. In the anime, when unleashing the full intensity of his power, Goku's aura also produces some slight electrical sparks. Goku's demeanor is greatly affected by this form, making him more aggressive and irritable.
- Super Saiyan Second Grade: Realizing that the androids' power exceeds a Super Saiyan, Goku entered the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to surpass the basic Super Saiyan form. Ultimately, Goku unlocked this form after weeks of training. However, Goku realized that this form spends too much ki to be maintained. Rather than attempting the more arduous and time-consuming task of refining this form, Goku came to the conclusion that the basic Super Saiyan form is better suited for combat, making a plan to master it and abandon this form completely. As a result of this and discovering more powerful forms, this form is never used again.
- Super Saiyan Third Grade: Along with Second Grade, Goku achieves this form in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. While vastly stronger than Second Grade, the power output is too intense, causing Goku's muscles to become engorged from the struggle of maintaining this unsteady power boost. This instability drained his ki too fast to be of use for long. It also causes an extreme drop in his speed and agility, tiring him even more and reducing his effectiveness overall. Goku noted that while much stronger than Semi-Perfect Cell, it meant nothing if he could not actually hit his foe with it. This made this form impractical against foes of any real speed. Instead of training to overcome this problem, Goku decides that simply mastering the basic Super Saiyan, feeling that it is the best way to fight and gain power. As such a result, this form is never used again.
- Mastered Super Saiyan: After realizing the weaknesses inherent to the higher Super Saiyan grades, Goku concluded that mastery over the basic Super Saiyan form would be more beneficial. He used the remainder of his time chamber training learning to maintain Super Saiyan for extended periods. Gradually, he overcame the heightened aggression and uneasiness that accompanies this form to feel as natural as his base form, reducing the energy drain to nothing and increasing his endurance to achieve a max output for this form without drawbacks even in regular life. Ultimately, he is able to enter, maintain, and fight in this form for as long as he desires at its full potential with no loss in efficiency or performance. In the anime, with this mastery, during the Tournament of Power, Goku - having gone well-beyond his limits - was able to flash between base and Super Saiyan to defeat Jiren alongside Frieza despite his battered and exhausted state.
- Super Saiyan (Berserk): During the events of the Prison Planet Saga, Goku obtained this berserker state when he faced Cumber. This state is a corruption; during which, his skin-tone is tanner, and his aura turns darker, consisting of an orange glow surrounded by a dark purple and black regularly accompanied by black electricity sparks in his aura. Also, his pupils disappear, representing his diminished/lack of cognitive thought. It also causes his blasts to become red and black.

Super Saiyan 2: Goku achieved this form at some time after Cell's defeat while in the Other World. In this form, Goku gains some changes; his hair becomes spikier, his forehead has only three bangs over it, making his hair more defined than his other previous Super Saiyan forms. His muscles also become more defined, and his aura also generates electricity surrounding his body, while the aura grows markedly larger and more vibrant. Since gaining greater forms, Goku reserves this form for opponents he takes semi-seriously.

Super Saiyan 3: Goku's strongest form in the original manga and anime. Goku achieved this level after years of training in Other World, where he could put unlimited energy into this form. In this form, his hair reaches down to his thighs and his eyebrows vanish completely while making the forehead and eye ridges larger and more prominent. His muscle mass grows noticeable larger more defined while his eyes gain green irises. His aura also becomes rounder with larger electrical sparks. Goku first used this form against Innocent Buu during the Majin Buu Saga, where he had a slight advantage over the Majin. However, this form is extremely draining in terms of energy due to the living world having less energy to siphon. This made him tire fast and even cut Goku's time left on Earth from hours to a mere thirty minutes after using this form for a short time. When attempting to gather enough energy to defeat Kid Buu, he was unable to sustain it as he had not taken into account the strain overcoming his living body, and soon reverted to his base state. Altogether, these heavy disadvantages make it impractical to use this form out of the afterlife and even more while alive.

Super Saiyan God: The "Super Saiyan God" is the legend among legends of the warrior race, the Saiyans. The power of six good-hearted Saiyans must be infused for one of them to achieve this legendary form. As Shenron explains to the Dragon Team and company, a Super Saiyan God once appeared on Planet Vegeta to stop the evil Saiyans but he failed because of the form's time limit. The Namekians were aware of the Super Saiyan God and wrote of the method to achieve the form in their book of legends. When in this form, the Saiyan's general appearance has only slight differences: the most notable change is the slight pink skin tone (similar to the usage of Fury) and hair that is a shade of red. In this form, Goku possesses magenta-red hair while Vegeta possesses crimson red hair. The hair retains its natural style but becomes more refined (losing any stray hairs). The Saiyan's eyes become more detailed, and the irises become red (appearing as more relaxed even in battle until sufficiently angered). The overall body structure appears to become younger and thinner in frame and build, though this is not the case for the Future Warrior and Shallot, as their musculature stays the same in their Super Saiyan God forms. The aura of the Super Saiyan God resembles a raging fire. At the time of its debut, Super Saiyan God was "a being that surpasses everything". The power of this form is great enough to allow Goku to compete against the non-fully powered God of Destruction Beerus, who effortlessly defeated Super Saiyan 3 Goku, later the combined effort of Potential Unleashed Gohan (Potential Unleashed Super Saiyan Gohan in the original movie), Good Buu, Piccolo, Android 18, Tien Shinhan, and Gotenks (Super Saiyan in the movie, Super Saiyan 3 in the manga, and base form in the anime), and even a one-on-one assault from a enraged Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta.

- Saiyan Beyond God: After experiencing the power of Super Saiyan God, Goku learned to use the raw might and enhanced senses of this god-like power without transforming. When in this state, while his physical appearance remains unchanged, his ki can be manifested as a pure white aura. If Goku attempts to become a Super Saiyan while using this power, he will instead become Super Saiyan Blue.

Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan: Super Saiyan Blue, also known as Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, is an extremely powerful transformation and a transcension of the Super Saiyan God form. By undertaking godly ki training with a deity to wield the power of Super Saiyan God in one's natural state, a Saiyan may achieve a divinity-empowered base form, which allows them to use Super Saiyan Blue as the Super Saiyan version of Super Saiyan God and surpass it in power. While Super Saiyan God can be easily achieved through a specialized ritual, Super Saiyan Blue has no such shortcuts and must be extensively trained in order to be used correctly. In Goku's words, this form is what happens when a "Saiyan with the power of a Super Saiyan God further transforms himself into a Super Saiyan". Simply, it is the first Super Saiyan form combined with the power and godly ki of a Super Saiyan God turned cyan blue, due to a mortal absorbing it. The form can be obtained by a Saiyan who has become a Super Saiyan God and then retained the power; if the Saiyan utilizes the might of Super Saiyan God and then attempts to transform into a Super Saiyan, they will instead naturally evolve into a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (Super Saiyan Blue or Super Saiyan Rosé, depending on the individual's status). Alternatively, as shown in the anime and by Goku Black in the manga, the Saiyan can evolve their standard Super Saiyan form into a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form if they increase its strength until it surpasses Super Saiyan God.
- Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken: Thanks to the Super Saiyan Blue form's great ki and emotional control, Goku can utilize Kaio-ken alongside it with far less risk. In this state, Goku gains a double aura, leaving Goku to appear as a basic Super Saiyan Blue with his blue over while a larger red aura surrounds it. Goku first used this against Hit in the Tournament of Destroyers. While using Kaio-ken levels too extreme for his body to handle, Goku's blue hair turns a pale blue that is whitish, and his skin is illuminated to a light red. In which case, it will gradually damage his body. This unstable state also will give Goku Delayed Onset Ki Disorder, sending Goku's ki into flux, making him unable to properly access his energy for a few days. By the Tournament of Power, Goku had mastered this technique up to x20 with no instability or strain.
- Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (Berserk): During the Universe Creation Saga, Fu infects Super Saiyan Blue Goku with Cumber's evil aura thus turning him into Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (Berserk). In this form, Goku's might in Super Saiyan Blue becomes nearly useless due to losing all sense of reason and resorts to wild flailing attacks as opposed to using his highly toned martial arts prowess.

Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (Universe Tree Power): During the New Space-Time War Saga, Goku took on this state upon absorbing and then harnassing the power contained within the Universe Tree. This gave Goku the strength to finish off Fu once and for all.

Ultra Instinct Sign: A state first attained during the Tournament of Power. Originally, in the anime, Goku did this by absorbing the energy of the Spirit Bomb as a bolster to break a mental shell in the subconscious to unlock a much deeper portion of his potential. In the manga, this state is the pinnacle of Goku's martial arts training; obtained from reflecting on Master Roshi's words and demonstration of proper movement, admitting to his shame in lack of personal growth and letting go of his self-doubt. With this, Goku's physical and mental parameters are vastly augmented, ranking among the most powerful entities in all the multiverse. His hair stands up somewhat, becoming wilder in shape with no loose strands. His eyes become more defined and sterner in shape, while also gaining silver irises. His aura becomes a complex silver with sparkle appearance. In this state, Goku's physical, mental, and energy parameters are vastly augmented, equally increasing his combat performance. He processes information far quicker and efficiently, letting him learn and adapt to all experiences. The highlight of this lets him automatically react to all threats in the most efficient way possible, even without consciously being aware of it. This augmented growth greatly accelerates his natural improvement, constantly imprinting on his experiences to become stronger, faster, and sharper in his actions with every skirmish. In the anime, entering this state also energize him and negate all previous wounds as a battered Goku showed against Kefla. However, initially usage of this state is random and unstable, only accessible for short periods of time and in the direst of situations. In the anime, by his fight against Kefla, while seemingly learning to access this state more willingly, as noted by Whis, Goku's usage is still incomplete. While his movements have become more refined, he struggles to switch his full attention on to his offense, inhibiting his attacks and techniques, requiring more time to build up energy for an assault to have sufficient power. The effort also appears to drain Goku quicker, returning him to his base form and in an exhausted state.
- Ultra Instinct: Once understanding Whis' words behind self-movement, Goku learned to let go of all self-doubt and live in the moment. When fully synchronizing his impulses with his natural drive, Goku can subconsciously unlock the full potential of his offensive and defensive might. This culminates with Goku's silver glow consuming him, turning his hair silver and skin tone more ethereal in nature. The power in this form is vastly greater than his initial state that it completely shreds away his shirt (in the anime). In this state, Goku showed such fine control of his ki, able to calmly repel and contain any energy assault thrown at him. He can unleash barrages of his energy in focused shockwaves and cancel out all but the strongest of attacks. In addition, while accessing this state, Goku's body is full rejuvenated and, in the manga, can grow sturdier in areas in response to being attacked, even causing weaker foes to break their limbs trying to hit his body.

Other

Standard Tactics: Goku is a trained and gifted martial artists who has always kept the same tactics when entering battle. Goku will size up his opponent to see where their strengths and weaknesses lay, see how strong they are, and dish out various martial arts attacks and techniques to overwhelm his opponent. Goku will never immediately go all out from the start unless he fully needs to and will usually start with warm ups.

Weaknesses

Standard Ki Weaknesses: Ki users that do not have sufficient training over their emotions put their power within a mental lock, thus affects to their emotions can seriously limit their powers^[154], their emotions can also have them instinctively block using the full power of their attacks out of fear of the destruction along with lack of confidence in themselves^[155]. If a Ki user is inflicted with any kind of status, disease, or poison, powering up or transforming will put further strain on the body^[156] and can speed up the process of poison^[157]. Users of Ki Sensing cannot sense beings that invisible, even if the character is in front of them attacking them, they have a hard time countering them due to being invisible^[158]. Users of Ki Sensing also have a harder time sensing the true being using illusions, requiring them to focus in on energy fields to see who is moving and who is casting the illusion^[159]. Due to the nature of ki draining stamina and energy, Dragon Ball characters ki usage requires them to usually use their higher levels of energy in short bursts, using a large amount of ki overtime can greatly weaken them to the point that characters far lower then them can actually harm them with attacks^[160]. Taking large amounts of damage can greatly deplete a ki users attacks, making it where attacks that would otherwise kill massively weakened characters, only pushes them back^[161]. Ki users cannot put all of their ki and strength into an attack if parts of their body are broken/injured^[162]^[163], they also lose half of their chi if something like one of their arms are badly injured or broken^[164].Ki users that are able to ki sense cannot do it when their guard is dropped, such as when Vegeta was able to sneak attack Son Goku during the end of their fight in the Buu Saga^[165]. Despite some ki users being able to reach blasts that can destroy planets through charged attacks or techniques^[166]^[167]^[168]^[169], they have not shown to be able to tank such blasts themselves^[170]^[171]^[172], with attacks that have^[173] destroyed several^[174] planets in the series^[175] always killing the character. Even characters such as Majin Buu's body cannot withstand the energy of a planet exploding^[176]. Using ki volley attacks come with the caveat of their aim being rather poor, making it harder to hit moving targets. If ki users are at all possessed, even by accident, their true self will be sleeping within, with the possessor needing to awaken them^[177]. Even if awoken, they are immobilized and unable to move without the possessor giving them the ability to^[178], even with them wanting to wake up, they cannot do it^[179]. Specific waves can can suppress a ki users power, and put their consciousness to sleep^[180]. If Ki users stamina is broken, they will unable to be able to continue fighting for a short while, this will also cancel out any ki attack they were attempting to use, including ultimate's^[181], this also adds on that ki users guards are down while charging ultimate attacks. Their stamina can also be broken if a character moves far too fast and surprise attacks them while they're charging their ki^[182]. Ki Users can also be grabbed out of charging their attacks^[183]. When ki users radiate their Ki at its highest, their body is also freed the most, making them open to attacks and making them easy to possess^[184].
Turtle Hermit Style Weaknesses: As the style does not incorporate any real fighting techniques^[185], it has a heavy reliance on durability^[186], stamina^[187], muscles and speed^[188], along with agility^[189], thus anyone with superior statistics then them can easily overpower this style^[190], along with this any character capable of using attacks that bypass defense altogether such as pressure point strikes can easily overcome a turtle hermit style user, even if they use extra forms and techniques to heighten their defenses^[191]. Thus anyone with techniques that ignore statistics or are simply higher in statistics than a Turtle Hermit Style user can easily overcome this style.
Unique Weaknesses: Goku will not immediately go all out during a battle to size up his opponent and see how strong they are unless he openly needs too, making his guard low in some cases. Using Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken gives him an illness where he can't properly control his ki^[192]. If Goku uses ultra instinct for too long, black lightning will form around and cause him to feel massive pain, briefly knocking him out.

Some clips used on the profile come from an anime or movie due to the fact that some abilities from ki use shouldn't function much differently from how they can in canon, along with this sometimes the anime version/video game version of a scene will be used for cleaner visuals. The speed scaling for PLs are taken with a grain of salt as there are noticeable times where someone's speed isn't equal to their power, such as Burter being faster then Recoome and Jeice, along with Super Saiyan Grade 3 Trunks having his power greatly increased but his speed decreased.

A: Planetary feats are normally done through their strongest charged blast, where they can gather ki to shoot out blast far beyond what the character is normally capable of^[194], with blasts capable of^[195] seriously damaging/destroying^[196] the Earth along with completely obliterating the opponent^[197], though they themselves are never capable of leaving this unscathed.

Frieza throws a destroy the planet death ball attack but it doesn't destroy the planet. Goku then interestingly notes the reason the planet didn't blow up is because Frieza was too scared of getting caught in the blast^[198] . Vegeta's final flash is noted it's going to destroy the planet and Perfect Cell, who is beyond Vegeta, couldn't tank the blast and had to dodge it last second or it would've killed him^[199]. Goku's kamehameha was going to destroy the earth and Cell cannot tank this blast, needing to regenerate^[200]. Semi-Perfect Cell explosion was consistently noted it was going to destroy the planet and Gohan and it killed Goku^[201]. Ultimate Gohan dies to an attack that destroys the earth, his guard was up too since this was when he was fighting Super Buu^[202]. Kid Buu shoots a blast trying to destroy the planet, with Vegeta noting he's going to take himself out with it if he lets it off^[203]. In Dragon Ball GT, Great Ape Baby Vegeta shoots a super galick gun that he claims will destroy Earth, when Goku is hit by it, he is knocked out to the point that he can't move for a good while, Elder Kai and Shin later state that Baby is going to shoot another blast that will destroy the planet on, greatly injuring Baby if he's caught in the Blast and will kill everyone on the planet if done^[204]. Frieza destroyed the entire earth, killing Vegeta in the process^[205]. In the Dragon Ball Super Manga, Gohan tells Goku that he doesn't need to hold anything back and can go all out because anything that happens to the Earth can be restored with Dende and the Dragon Balls. Yet, none of Goku's all out attacks destroy the planet but just heavily causes shockwaves around it^[206]. Semi-Perfect Cell unleashes a several blast that destroys several islands Android 16 notes that the attacks are just strong enough to not kill Android 18^[207].

In the fight of Trunks vs. Mecha Frieza, who is far stronger than his final form, Mecha Frieza immediately goes for his strongest attack, the Supernova. In the original Z anime King Kai even states this is ten times stronger than the power he used on Namek:

The attack is directly noted that it could destroy the planet, but doesn't because Trunks catches it, when Mecha Frieza proceeds to detonate it, the explosion is massive but the planet is still intact, implying Frieza must target the core in order to destroy the planet.
