“ | Hmph! We are Gogeta! Kakarot and Vegeta have merged together to take Broly down! | „ |
~ Gogeta introducing himself to Frieza |
Background
Gogeta is the Metamoran fusion of Son Goku and Vegeta when they perform the Fusion Dance properly. Wielding the combined and magnified strength of both Son Goku and Vegeta, Gogeta is an incredibly deadly warrior, and like his Potara counterpart Vegito, he is regarded as one of the most powerful characters in the entire Dragon Ball franchise.
He would then made his official canonical debut in Broly as the film's final protagonist, similar to his role from Fusion Reborn.
This dropdown contains the synopsis of Gogeta’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise! |
---|
Gogeta is born during Goku and Vegeta's desperate attempts to fuse to gain the upper hand on Super Saiyan Broly. The two Saiyans fail twice before succeeding, and their new fusion wastes a bit of time trying to think of a different name other than Vegito, since that was the name for their Potara counterpart. A miffed Piccolo yells at the fusion to hurry him along, at which point he decides on "Gogeta" and uses Instant Transmission to return to the battlefield. Upon doing so, he confronts a battered Golden Frieza, who demands to know who Gogeta is. Gogeta reveals the nature of his fusion and his newfound power, and warns Frieza that he'll deal with him later, despite the tyrant's whining. He teleports again to halt Broly's battle with Whis, telling the angel that he can handle it from here. Whis, impressed by their unique blend of teamwork, lets Gogeta resume the fight for him. The fusion beckons for Broly to attack, which Broly easily complies with, though Gogeta immediately displays a clear advantage over the berserk Saiyan, effortlessly dodging and blocking nearly all of his attacks. Soon enough, Gogeta decides to turn Super Saiyan to continue the battle, fighting evenly with Broly until his Super Kamehameha connects with Broly's Gigantic Omegastorm, shattering reality itself and sending the two into an entirely different dimension, where Broly powers up into his Legendary Super Saiyan form. After being briefly overwhelmed, Gogeta responds by unleashing Super Saiyan Blue, once more assuming a gigantic domineering advantage over Broly and clashing until they break back into the real world. Gogeta continues dodging and blocking Broly's attacks, flipping over his Gigantic Breath and battering him from behind with God Punisher before seemingly finishing the berserker with a Stardust Breaker, dealing significant damage that Broly recovers from thanks to his overwhelming stamina and defense. Gogeta smirks, but notices the appearance of Shenron and quickly changes his attitude. Broly rises from the crater left by the Stardust Breaker, drastically powering up and desperately trying to damage Gogeta in any way, but the fusion's unprecedented and overwhelming strength leaves Broly beaten badly. He kicks him around, sliding past Broly's energy wave to pummel him further and unleash his Meteor Explosion attack point-blank, creating a huge mushroom cloud and severely wounding the berserk Saiyan. Even the spectating Whis voices his admiration of Gogeta's strength, declaring the Saiyans' fight as good as finished. With Broly beaten back into consciousness, now terrified of his opponent's killing intent and overwhelming aura, Gogeta begins to charge the Limit Ultra Kamehameha, while a frantic Cheelai makes a wish on Shenron to send Broly back to the planet where she and Lemo found him. As the Kamehameha nears Broly, the Saiyan is warped to Vampa at the last second, leaving the energy wave to shoot off harmlessly into space. Gogeta is momentarily confused, but smiles and dispels his aura. Almost immediately thereafter, he confronts Golden Frieza and prevents him from shooting down the small spacecraft that Cheelai and Lemo were using to leave Earth by catching his arm. Frieza drops out of his Golden form, recognizing the consequences of fighting back, and leaves with a threat that he will eventually return and conquer Earth, quickly departing and eliciting a small chuckle from Gogeta. |

Codex Statistics
Grade: A
Tier: At least 6-C, Higher in Super Saiyan, Far Higher in Super Saiyan Blue. Much Higher with Strongest Charged Blast
Cardinality: Finite
Dimensionality: 3-D
Power Source: Ki (All beings in Dragon Ball[1][2][3] have ki, the very life force energy of all characters[4], ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even[5] block attacks that would otherwise[6] kill them from[7] raising their guard[8], higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them[9])
Attack Potency: At least Island level (Is the combined power of Son Goku and Vegeta, making him far superior to Semi-Perfect Cell, who destroyed several islands with several blast. Briefly fought Full Power Super Saiyan Broly in this state before going super saiyan), Higher in Super Saiyan (Fought and overpowered Full Power Super Saiyan Broly, with their sheer strength causing a dimensional shift, sending them into another dimension briefly), Far Higher in Super Saiyan Blue (Completely overpowered Full Power Super Saiyan Broly). Much Higher with Strongest Charged Blast (His strongest charged blast by this point should be superior to Super Perfect Cell's solar kamehameha which is shown that if it succeeded, it would've destroyed the entire planet)
Durability: At least Island level, Higher in Super Saiyan, Far Higher in Super Saiyan Blue. Higher with Guard Up (Ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even block attacks that would otherwise kill them from raising their guard), Lower with Ki Control (Higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them)

Attack Speed: Relativistic
Reaction Speed: Relativistic
Stamina: Superhuman (Superior to Son Goku, who travelled over Snake Way for countless days straight, and who, as a kid, was able to survive training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for nearly a year, which is said to be incredibly physically taxing and difficult to stay in for even a short amount of time)
Range: Standard Melee, Interstellar with Ki Attacks (Ki attacks can reach out of the planet and to other planets. All ki attacks should be comparable to Goku's kamehameha, which reached all the way to the sun)
Intelligence: Gifted Intelligence (Contains the mind of both Goku and Vegeta, who are both combative experts. Vegeta was able to outsmart Frieza’s entire army and lay low during the Frieza Saga, and managed to trick the likes of Doctor Gero into fleeing by feigning confidence after trashing Android 19; Goku replicated a Kamehameha after seeing it once, which is supposed to take 50 years to learn according to Roshi, copied Master Roshi’s ultimate technique the afterimage after seeing it done, could copy Tien’s Solar Flare and his flying technique and could copy the demon clan’s air ki techniques)
Powers and Techniques
- Chi Manipulation & Ki Manipulation (All beings in Dragon Ball[10][11][12] have ki, the very life force energy of all characters[13], ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even[14] block attacks that would otherwise[15] kill them from[16] raising their guard[17], higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them[18])
- Aura
- Projection: A users ki aura can exert itself[19] as a weapon to attack[20].
- Explosive: Ki users through powering up can form an entire aura around themself, radiating their immense power[21], where depending on their immense strength, can cause them to explode their aura outwards to remove excess ki from themself[22].
- Mood Reflection: Goku and Piccolo Jr. with their auras and their stern concentration on each other reflected in their electric auras, even shooting electricity at each other[23].
- Emotional Empowerment (It's noted that ki users can receive energy through one cheering them on[24]. Ki users can be greatly increased by their emotions and beliefs, Son Goku explains that Son Gohan needs to remember the time he fought Cell and bring out all of the power he has, this way he can lose to no one[25] where it's shown during the Cell beam clash that he was holding back greatly out of fear of destroying the earth but from being cheered on and using all of his power within him, he was able to overpower Cell[26])
- Attack Reflection (All Ki users are able to reflect attacks just by being stronger than their opponent[27]. Examples include, Nappa deflecting a masenko from Son Gohan[28], Son Gohan being able to bounce back the spirit bomb[29], Son Goku deflecting a crusher ball from Jeice[30], Frieza deflecting a Final Burst Cannon from Vegeta[31], Son Goku reflecting multiple death beams back to back from Frieza[32], and Future Trunks being able to completely repel an energy blast with his hand from a Frieza Soldier just by being much stronger than them[33])
- Lock-On (Ki users can create attacks that will home in and chase a target forever[34])
- Penetration Damage (Bladed Penetration; Ki users can conjure up a circle of chi that is sharp and can cut through enemies far more powerful then themselves[35][36], along with this they can conjure ki as a means to stab through an opponent[37])
- Weapon Creation (Ki users can create energy weapons out of their attacks[38])
- Absorption & Energy Transferal (Ki users can transfer their ki to others and absorb the ki given to them from others[39])
- Attack Nullification (Ki Energy Based; Those with ki can nullify attacks of lesser ki with their ki alone[40][41]. They can also catch and nullify ki attacks around their level through focusing enough[42])
- Power Nullification (Ki Energy Based; Through having greater ki, one can nullify the powers done through ki attacks, such as Frieza being able to nullify a hakai ball[43], which fully destroys a target[44], though he is unable to resist a hakai ball from Toppo due to him being stronger[45], this ability however only works on ki, attacks unrelated, characters cannot resist through being stronger, such as how Vegeta, Krillin, & Son Gohan are unable to resist Guldo's psychic powers[46], along with even the likes of Son Goku[47])
- Forcefield Manipulation (Ki users such as Cell can generate forcefields around themselves[48]. These forcefields can be expanded[49], and used to protect others and defend against attacks far higher then the user[50])
- Super Armor (Through releasing one's ki, they enter a state known as "Hyper Mode"[51], in this state they do not flinch from weak melee attacks[52])
- Self-Destruction (Ki users in Dragon Ball are able to[53] release all of the energy within them[54] to cause a massive[55] self-destruction of energy that normally kills the user and turns them into dust[56] though one can control it to surviving but having no stamina or energy left[57])
- Binding (Energy Binding; Ki Users can use their ki to bind targets to objects, making them unable to escape even if they're of equal power[58], however, those stronger than the ki user can easily break out of it[59])
- Dreaming Existence (Characters in Shin Budokai have shown to create physical bodies in alternate timelines through dreaming[60])
- Non-Standard Interaction
- Intangible Interaction: Those with ki can block intangible attacks when they focus and notices them[61].
- Space-Time Interaction (3+1-D); Characters can blast space-time distortions to close them[62]).
- Healing (Healing Singular Targets, Advanced Healing; Ki can be used to heal beings, allowing them to survive even with half their torso[63], it can also heal from near death[64])
- Resurrection
- Resurrection of the Deceased (Limited): Ki users can resurrect ones heart from death if their ki beams hit their heart, restarting it[65].
- Resurrection from Exhaustion: Can heal downed allies to give them ki back, reviving them[66])
- Intimidation & Spirit Manipulation (Ki is the manifestation of one’s lifeforce[67], along with the aura giving one the feeling of being crushed[68], exerting fear[69] into the target, sometimes making them incapable of moving as their[70] body is instinctively stuck due to the sheer difference in power[71])
- Link Manipulation & Mind Manipulation (Characters can link their ki together and train within each other’s mind enacting in image training[72])
- Vibration Manipulation (Seismic Vibration Manipulation; Ki users can transfer their ki into an object and cause it to vibrate and shake greatly[73]. Powerful ki users can cause the very ground itself to shake when they power up[74])
- Electricity Manipulation (Unknown Voltage; Powerful Ki users can generate electricity around their aura that can outright electrocute their opponents[75], Goku and Piccolo Jr. showcased being able to utilize their aura as pure electricity during their clash[76])
- Weather Manipulation (Powerful Ki users can generate entire storms through merely powering up alone, Nappa used this in order to conjure the electricity from the storm[77]. Goku showcases this when he first turns super saiyan, causing a massive lightning storm in the background[78])
- Energy Manipulation (Ki is the latent power in one's body, this latent power allows them to form and create energy from controlling their ki, which can be used to shoot out energy blast[79])
- Explosion Manipulation (Ki attacks can create massive explosions[80], or control the ki to set off a huge explosion under the enemy[81], or in front of them[82])
- Temperature Manipulation (At least 100 C; Ki user's ki attacks produce heat allowing them to cook and grill animals and raw meat[83][84], along with leaving behind steam after the attacks hit an area, showing its latent heat. Ki users electricity aura can burn objects that touch it[85])
- Light Manipulation (Ki can be used as a flash of light[86][87][88][89][90][91][92][93][94], Degisu seeing ki attacks be fired notes that the characters are "firing light from their hands"[95]).
- Limited Resistance to
- Longevity (Saiyans can keep their youth until around 80 years old)
- Reactive Power Level (A Saiyan’s power increases if they survive from injuries in battle, with their powers allowing them to greatly exceed their previous levels beforehand)
- Emotional Empowerment (Mere rage can amplify a Saiyan to a level that's believed to be a myth even by the highest levels of Saiyans in the verse)
- Statistics Boost (Saiyans attack power rises when health is low)
- Statistics Amplification (Saiyans have all of their stats rise when they're revived)
- Transformation (Transformative Arsenal; If Saiyans have their tail, they can transform into a giant great ape when the full moon shines).
All previous powers and abilities, Superhuman Physical Characteristics,
All previous powers and abilities to a greater extent, Extrasensory Perception (Goku in his super saiyan god state is capable of sensing god ki), Enhanced Chi Manipulation & Godly Ki Manipulation (Goku can amplify his ki by making a Dragon representation of it go into him[98]), Regeneration (Low-Mid. Goku regenerated a wound to his chest as a super saiyan god[99]), Time Manipulation (During the super saiyan god ritual, time sped up[100]), Water Manipulation (Turning into the super saiyan god caused whirlpools[101]), Age Manipulation (Super Saiyan God makes one younger[102]), Statistics Amplification (Goku can amplify his ki by making a Dragon representation of it go into him[103]), Power Nullification (Goku can nullify the shockwaves[104]), Paralysis Inducement (Briefly paralyzed Broly in attempt to talk sense into him).
Notable Techniques
- Flight: The ability to fly through the use of ki.
- Ki Blast: The most basic form of energy wave.
- Punisher Drive: The user slides forward then uses Rapid Movement to attack the opponent while invisible. If the attack successfully lands, multiple invisible blows land on the opponent and the user appears behind them while they are stunned.
- Stardust Breaker: Gogeta raises his hand into the air and generates a prismatic energy sphere, either throwing the attack or crushing it and then throwing the scattered energy into the opponent, dealing massive damage to them.
- Stardust Smasher: Super Saiyan God SS Evolved Gogeta's stronger variant of the Stardust Breaker/Soul Punisher.
- Invisible Eye Blast: A kiai fired from the eyes.
- Ultimate Impact: Gogeta charges at the opponent and kicks them into their stomach, bicycle kicking them up into the air while saying "Here goes!" He then flies up to the opponent, and attacks them with a powerful barrage of punches and kicks at a very rapid rate. He then appears behind the opponent saying, "Its over." Next, he turns around to elbow the opponent in their face and spin kick them away. Finally, Gogeta teleports above the opponent and hook kicks them down into the ground, inflicting a massive amount of damage.
- Rising Vortex: A hard uppercut, followed by an elbow bash and a downward spinning kick.
- Punisher Shield: Gogeta swipes his left arm out to slice the air with a bluish-green barrier of sorts before delivering a swinging downward kick. The barrier reflects any energy blasts from afar as a giant blue blast, and Gogeta can teleport behind the foe to kick them at a higher angle down into the ground.
- Ki Blast Volley: Used as his Dragon Rush in Budokai 3.
- Stardust Fall: Gogeta charges a massive energy sphere in his hands and fires it downward in a hailstorm of energy bullets.
- Spirit Blaster: Gogeta launches a ki blast in front of him before following up with a powerful stream of energy bolts.
- God Punisher: Gogeta charges two energy spheres in his hands and dodges his opponent's attack. He then launches them and furthers his barrage with more energy spheres.
- Spirit Control: An advanced ki manipulation technique that allows its user to achieve a multitude of potent abilities through their ki.
- Instant Transmission: A technique for traveling long distances instantly. This action is usually accompanied by the user placing his index and middle fingers on his forehead to help him concentrate, though if extra time is taken the technique can be performed without this aid.
- Kamehameha: A powerful ki blast fired with two hands after concentrating a large amount of ki.
- Super Kamehameha: One of Goku's ultimate attacks. Though capable of using it, it is often fired in unison with Vegeta's ultimate attack, the Big Bang Attack to form the Big Bang Kamehameha.
- Instant Kamehameha: One of Goku's ultimate attacks. Used in unison with the Instant Transmission technique. One of SSGSS Gogeta's Ultimate Skills that can be added to his Custom skillset after purchasing it in Partner Customization in Xenoverse 2.
Other
Standard Tactics: Gogeta will engage in hand to hand combat, along with shooting ki attacks.
Weaknesses
- Standard Ki Weaknesses: If a Ki user has any kind of disease or poison, powering up or transforming will put further strain on the body[119] and can speed up the process of poison[120]. Users of Ki Sensing cannot sense beings that invisible, even if the character is in front of them attacking them, they have a hard time countering them due to being invisible[121]. Users of Ki Sensing also have a harder time sensing the true being using illusions, requiring them to focus in on energy fields to see who is moving and who is casting the illusion[122]. Due to the nature of ki draining stamina and energy, Dragon Ball characters ki usage requires them to usually use their higher levels of energy in short bursts, using a large amount of ki overtime can greatly weaken them to the point that characters far lower then them can actually harm them with attacks[123]. Taking large amounts of damage can greatly deplete a ki users attacks, making it where attacks that would otherwise kill massively weakened characters, only pushes them back[124]. Ki users that are able to ki sense cannot do it when their guard is dropped, such as when Vegeta was able to sneak attack Son Goku during the end of their fight in the Buu Saga[125]. Despite some ki users being able to reach blasts that can destroy planets through charged attacks or techniques[126][127][128][129], they have not shown to be able to tank such blasts themselves[130][131][132], with attacks that have[133] destroyed several[134] planets in the series[135] always killing the character. Even characters such as Majin Buu's body cannot withstand the energy of a planet exploding[136].
- Turtle Hermit Style Weaknesses: As the style does not incorporate any real fighting techniques[137], it has a heavy reliance on durability[138], stamina[139], muscles and speed[140], along with agility[141], thus anyone with superior statistics then them can easily overpower this style[142], along with this any character capable of using attacks that bypass defense altogether such as pressure point strikes can easily overcome a turtle hermit style user, even if they use extra forms and techniques to heighten their defenses[143]. Thus anyone with techniques that ignore statistics or are simply higher in statistics than a Turtle Hermit Style user can easily overcome this style.
- Unique Weaknesses: The fusion can only last for around 30 minutes, less if further transformations are used.
Note
- Some clips used on the profile come from an anime or movie due to the fact that some abilities from ki use shouldn't function much differently from how they can in canon, along with this sometimes the anime version/video game version of a scene will be used for cleaner visuals. Toriyama himself directly overlooks scenes in the anime and movies and gives Toei the thumbs up[144].
- The speed scaling for PLs are taken with a grain of salt as there are noticeable times where someone's speed isn't equal to their power, such as Burter being faster then Recoome and Jeice, along with Super Saiyan Grade 3 Trunks having his power greatly increased but his speed decreased.
Trivia
- Similar to all the other fusions, his name is a portmanteau of his two hosts (Goku and Vegeta).
- Gogeta has the largest personality changes through the course of the franchise. Compared to both his later incarnations, Fusion Reborn Gogeta never retained Vegeta's cockiness nor Goku's acts of mercy, and unlike the two counterparts, he finishes his opponents very quickly. In GT, he has a split personality. Throughout his battle with Omega Shenron, Gogeta is generally very cocky and playful, which is somewhat similar to Vegito except Gogeta seems to be more immature. In Super, while still extremely aggressive and serious like his Fusion Reborn counterpart, Gogeta still remains somewhat cocky, while also possessing new traits; instead of calling Goku by his human name, Gogeta refers to him as "Kakarot" despite using a name based on "Goku". Also, similar to Vegito, he is usually smiling during battles, and even uses Vegito's signature hand gesture to make enemies approach him.
- In Vegito's case however, ironically, the personality changes are inverted somewhat; while Super Vegito is cockier, and prone to toying around, Vegito Blue (Super Saiyan Blue) is much more serious, and aggressive in combat, using a very different combo string than what he did previously.
- Gogeta is the only fused Saiyan character (Potara or Fusion Dance) to successfully defeat a villain without the fusion wearing off. He defeats Janemba, Broly, Hearts and Crimson-Masked Saiyan without coming close to running out of time, whereas Gotenks defused and was later absorbed before he was able to defeat Majin Buu, and Vegito pretended to be absorbed by Buu to save his friends, but the Fusion wore out before he could actually defeat Buu and Merged Zamasu.
- A fusion of Goku and Vegeta via the Fusion Dance is mentioned in the manga and anime when Goku and Vegeta are trapped in Buu's body. Goku suggests performing the dance in order to defeat Buu, but Vegeta declines, already knowing what it is and refusing to perform the poses or undergo any fusion at all.
- However, in Broly, Vegeta is unaware of the dance until mentioned by Goku as he heard it from Trunks. He realizes what the dance is and refuses to perform the dance at first as he believes it’s moronic but decides to be taught the dance as he had no idea on how to perform the fusion in order to defeat Broly and protect his family.
- In the English dub of Broly as well as later media, Gogeta sounds identical to Vegito and somehow retains Vegeta's English accent, while generally he's supposed to have Goku's accent instead as evident in mostly video games, especially Xenoverse 2. Despite this, the DLC 13 Base Gogeta still retains Vegeta's accent, nonetheless.
- In the English dub of Broly, Sean Schemmel uses his voice for King Kai instead of Goku when Veku is formed.
- A hidden audio file for Dragon Ball shows that Gogeta can use the Kaio-ken.
- Gogeta battling against Broly has appeared in a few medias even before the release of Dragon Ball, particularly in Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball openings.
