~ Gogeta introducing himself to Frieza
|
|
Background
Gogeta is the Metamoran fusion of Son Goku and Vegeta when they perform the Fusion Dance properly. Wielding the combined and magnified strength of both Son Goku and Vegeta, Gogeta is an incredibly deadly warrior, and like his Potara counterpart Vegito, he is regarded as one of the most powerful characters in the entire Dragon Ball franchise.
He would then made his official canonical debut in Broly as the film's final protagonist, similar to his role from Fusion Reborn.

Gogeta is born during Goku and Vegeta's desperate attempts to fuse to gain the upper hand on Super Saiyan Broly. The two Saiyans fail twice before succeeding, and their new fusion wastes a bit of time trying to think of a different name other than Vegito, since that was the name for their Potara counterpart. A miffed Piccolo yells at the fusion to hurry him along, at which point he decides on "Gogeta" and uses Instant Transmission to return to the battlefield. Upon doing so, he confronts a battered Golden Frieza, who demands to know who Gogeta is. Gogeta reveals the nature of his fusion and his newfound power, and warns Frieza that he'll deal with him later, despite the tyrant's whining. He teleports again to halt Broly's battle with Whis, telling the angel that he can handle it from here. Whis, impressed by their unique blend of teamwork, lets Gogeta resume the fight for him. The fusion beckons for Broly to attack, which Broly easily complies with, though Gogeta immediately displays a clear advantage over the berserk Saiyan, effortlessly dodging and blocking nearly all of his attacks.
Soon enough, Gogeta decides to turn Super Saiyan to continue the battle, fighting evenly with Broly until his Super Kamehameha connects with Broly's Gigantic Omegastorm, shattering reality itself and sending the two into an entirely different dimension, where Broly powers up into his Legendary Super Saiyan form. After being briefly overwhelmed, Gogeta responds by unleashing Super Saiyan Blue, once more assuming a gigantic domineering advantage over Broly and clashing until they break back into the real world. Gogeta continues dodging and blocking Broly's attacks, flipping over his Gigantic Breath and battering him from behind with God Punisher before seemingly finishing the berserker with a Stardust Breaker, dealing significant damage that Broly recovers from thanks to his overwhelming stamina and defense. Gogeta smirks, but notices the appearance of Shenron and quickly changes his attitude. Broly rises from the crater left by the Stardust Breaker, drastically powering up and desperately trying to damage Gogeta in any way, but the fusion's unprecedented and overwhelming strength leaves Broly beaten badly. He kicks him around, sliding past Broly's energy wave to pummel him further and unleash his Meteor Explosion attack point-blank, creating a huge mushroom cloud and severely wounding the berserk Saiyan. Even the spectating Whis voices his admiration of Gogeta's strength, declaring the Saiyans' fight as good as finished.
With Broly beaten back into consciousness, now terrified of his opponent's killing intent and overwhelming aura, Gogeta begins to charge the Limit Ultra Kamehameha, while a frantic Cheelai makes a wish on Shenron to send Broly back to the planet where she and Lemo found him. As the Kamehameha nears Broly, the Saiyan is warped to Vampa at the last second, leaving the energy wave to shoot off harmlessly into space. Gogeta is momentarily confused, but smiles and dispels his aura.
Almost immediately thereafter, he confronts Golden Frieza and prevents him from shooting down the small spacecraft that Cheelai and Lemo were using to leave Earth by catching his arm. Frieza drops out of his Golden form, recognizing the consequences of fighting back, and leaves with a threat that he will eventually return and conquer Earth, quickly departing and eliciting a small chuckle from Gogeta.

Codex Statistics
Grade: A
Tier: Up to 6-C, Higher in Super Saiyan, Far Higher in Super Saiyan Blue. Varies-E with Strongest Charged Blast
Cardinality: Finite
Dimensionality: 3-D
Power Source: Ki (All beings in Dragon Ball[1][2][3] have ki, the very life force energy of all characters[4], ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even[5] block attacks that would otherwise[6] kill them from[7] raising their guard[8], higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them[9])
Attack Potency: Up to Island level (Potency) (Is the combined power of Son Goku and Vegeta, making him far superior to Semi-Perfect Cell, who destroyed several islands with several blast. Briefly fought Full Power Super Saiyan Broly in this state before going super saiyan), Higher in Super Saiyan (Fought and overpowered Full Power Super Saiyan Broly, with their sheer strength causing a dimensional shift, sending them into another dimension briefly), Far Higher in Super Saiyan Blue (Completely overpowered Full Power Super Saiyan Broly). Varies: Skill with Strongest Charged Blast (Charged Blast have one focus all of their energy into one single point[10], putting the blasts power far beyond what their peak strength is[11], allowing them to destroy things they couldn't prior with their regular attacks[12], this also allows them to use charged attacks that can stop enemies far beyond their level, such as Tien Shinhan pushing back Semi-Perfect Cell with his Neo Ki-Ko-Ho[13], along with stopping an attack shot from Buu absorbed Gotenks[14]. Strongest charged blast can gather ki to shoot out blast far beyond what the character is normally capable of[15], with blasts capable of[16] seriously damaging/destroying[17] the Earth along with completely obliterating the opponent[18]. Charged Blast also rely heavily on emotional states for example Gohan not believing in himself[19] was having Cell overpower him in a beam clash[20])
Durability: Up to Island level, Higher in Super Saiyan, Far Higher in Super Saiyan Blue. Higher with Guard Up (Ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even block attacks that would otherwise kill them from raising their guard), Lower with Ki Control (Higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them)
Striking Strength: Up to Island Class (Potency), Higher in Super Saiyan, Far Higher in Super Saiyan Blue
Lifting Strength: At least Class 50 (Superior to Super Saiyan 3 Son Goku, who is superior to his Super Saiyan Buu Saga self, who could casually fight while carrying 40 tons), Higher in Super Saiyan, Far Higher in Super Saiyan Blue
Travel Speed: Massively Hypersonic (Far superior to Super Saiyan Gotenks who flew around the earth a few dozen times in this time frame)
Attack Speed: Massively Hypersonic
Reaction Speed: Massively Hypersonic
Stamina: Superhuman (Superior to Son Goku, who travelled over Snake Way for countless days straight, and who, as a kid, was able to survive training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for nearly a year, which is said to be incredibly physically taxing and difficult to stay in for even a short amount of time)
Range: Standard Melee, Interstellar with Ki Attacks (Ki attacks can reach out of the planet and to other planets. All ki attacks should be comparable to Goku's kamehameha, which reached all the way to the sun)
Intelligence: Gifted Intelligence (Contains the mind of both Goku and Vegeta, who are both combative experts. Vegeta was able to outsmart Frieza’s entire army and lay low during the Frieza Saga, and managed to trick the likes of Doctor Gero into fleeing by feigning confidence after trashing Android 19; Goku replicated a Kamehameha after seeing it once, which is supposed to take 50 years to learn according to Roshi, copied Master Roshi’s ultimate technique the afterimage after seeing it done, could copy Tien’s Solar Flare and his flying technique and could copy the demon clan’s air ki techniques)
All previous powers and abilities
Dimensional Travel (His fight with Broly caused a dimensional shift that briefly shifted them into another dimension)
All previous powers and abilities to a greater extent.
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Genius Intelligence
- Enhanced Senses & Extrasensory Perception (Goku has been trained by Mr. Popo in learning to hone his sixth sense to be able to notice people attacking him from behind without using his eyes and feeling the environment around him, other users such as Vegeta have learned the ability of ki sensing from watching people on earth use it. After training with Whis, Vegeta gained the ability to sense god ki even in base form[149])
- Transformation
- Adaptation (Adapted to 300 times the gravity of Earth)
- Sheer Will (Vegeta's will allows him to resist mind control)
- Mimicry (Power Mimicry & Technique Mimicry; Learned to ki sense from watching the people on Earth do it)
- Body Control (Should be able to do the same with his tail that Kid Goku could do, who could control his tail to move fast enough to have him briefly fly, along with Raditz, who can use his tail to attack enemies)
- Accelerated Development (Training; Physical Stats, Skill, & Abilities; Vegeta as well as others can train and quickly grow stronger, surpassing even the Earthlings)
- Damage Boost (His galick gun focuses more energy then his regular power, putting it far beyond him and letting him be capable of destroying planets)
- Energy Projection (Can fire out energy blast)
- Flight
- Afterimage Creation
- Telekinesis (Killed a Saibamen from destroying his insides)
- Fusionism (Vegeta can perform the Fusion Dance)
- Weather Manipulation & Vibration Manipulation (Through Vegeta powering up, he caused massive vibrations to the point that it felt that the Earth was trembling, causing storm clouds to form around and then dispersed them once he was done powering up)
- Electricity Manipulation (Vegeta's final flash has electric properties [152]).
Notable Techniques
- Flight: The ability to fly through the use of ki.
- Ki Blast: The most basic form of energy wave.
- Punisher Drive: The user slides forward then uses Rapid Movement to attack the opponent while invisible. If the attack successfully lands, multiple invisible blows land on the opponent and the user appears behind them while they are stunned.
- Stardust Breaker: Gogeta raises his hand into the air and generates a prismatic energy sphere, either throwing the attack or crushing it and then throwing the scattered energy into the opponent, dealing massive damage to them.
- Stardust Smasher: Super Saiyan God SS Evolved Gogeta's stronger variant of the Stardust Breaker/Soul Punisher.
- Invisible Eye Blast: A kiai fired from the eyes.
- Ultimate Impact: Gogeta charges at the opponent and kicks them into their stomach, bicycle kicking them up into the air while saying "Here goes!" He then flies up to the opponent, and attacks them with a powerful barrage of punches and kicks at a very rapid rate. He then appears behind the opponent saying, "Its over." Next, he turns around to elbow the opponent in their face and spin kick them away. Finally, Gogeta teleports above the opponent and hook kicks them down into the ground, inflicting a massive amount of damage.
- Rising Vortex: A hard uppercut, followed by an elbow bash and a downward spinning kick.
- Punisher Shield: Gogeta swipes his left arm out to slice the air with a bluish-green barrier of sorts before delivering a swinging downward kick. The barrier reflects any energy blasts from afar as a giant blue blast, and Gogeta can teleport behind the foe to kick them at a higher angle down into the ground.
- Ki Blast Volley: Used as his Dragon Rush in Budokai 3.
- Stardust Fall: Gogeta charges a massive energy sphere in his hands and fires it downward in a hailstorm of energy bullets.
- Spirit Blaster: Gogeta launches a ki blast in front of him before following up with a powerful stream of energy bolts.
- God Punisher: Gogeta charges two energy spheres in his hands and dodges his opponent's attack. He then launches them and furthers his barrage with more energy spheres.
- Spirit Control: An advanced ki manipulation technique that allows its user to achieve a multitude of potent abilities through their ki.
- Instant Transmission: A technique for traveling long distances instantly. This action is usually accompanied by the user placing his index and middle fingers on his forehead to help him concentrate, though if extra time is taken the technique can be performed without this aid.
- Kamehameha: A powerful ki blast fired with two hands after concentrating a large amount of ki.
- Super Kamehameha: One of Goku's ultimate attacks. Though capable of using it, it is often fired in unison with Vegeta's ultimate attack, the Big Bang Attack to form the Big Bang Kamehameha.
- Instant Kamehameha: One of Goku's ultimate attacks. Used in unison with the Instant Transmission technique. One of SSGSS Gogeta's Ultimate Skills that can be added to his Custom skillset after purchasing it in Partner Customization in Xenoverse 2.
- Super Saiyan: Gogeta is referred to as Super Gogeta while in this form. In Broly, Gogeta utilizes this form to battle Super Saiyan Broly on equal grounds before being overwhelmed by Broly's recent increase to his Full Power form. He is proven to be even stronger than both Goku and Vegeta in their Super Saiyan Blue forms in this state.
- Super Saiyan Blue: As both of his fusion components can use Super Saiyan Blue, Gogeta himself is able to do so as well. In Broly, Gogeta appears identical to Super Saiyan, only with dark-hued cyanic-blue hair and eyes with a vibrant, fiery, electric blue aura shaded by some purple. In the Heroes anime and trailers, Gogeta appears with the hair and irises are cyanic in color (albeit the irises change to a slightly darker color than the hair), and he possesses the standard vibrant blue aura with golden outlines overlapping the aura. His power is great enough that he is able to completely overwhelm Legendary Super Saiyan Broly, crush Ultimate Godslayer Hearts, and outmatch the Crimson-Masked Saiyan.
Other
Standard Tactics: Gogeta will engage in hand to hand combat, along with shooting ki attacks.
Weaknesses
- Standard Ki Weaknesses: Ki users that do not have sufficient training over their emotions put their power within a mental lock, thus affects to their emotions can seriously limit their powers[153], their emotions can also have them instinctively block using the full power of their attacks out of fear of the destruction along with lack of confidence in themselves[154]. If a Ki user is inflicted with any kind of status, disease, or poison, powering up or transforming will put further strain on the body[155] and can speed up the process of poison[156]. Users of Ki Sensing cannot sense beings that invisible, even if the character is in front of them attacking them, they have a hard time countering them due to being invisible[157]. Users of Ki Sensing also have a harder time sensing the true being using illusions, requiring them to focus in on energy fields to see who is moving and who is casting the illusion[158]. Due to the nature of ki draining stamina and energy, Dragon Ball characters ki usage requires them to usually use their higher levels of energy in short bursts, using a large amount of ki overtime can greatly weaken them to the point that characters far lower then them can actually harm them with attacks[159]. Taking large amounts of damage can greatly deplete a ki users attacks, making it where attacks that would otherwise kill massively weakened characters, only pushes them back[160]. Ki users cannot put all of their ki and strength into an attack if parts of their body are broken/injured[161][162], they also lose half of their chi if something like one of their arms are badly injured or broken[163].Ki users that are able to ki sense cannot do it when their guard is dropped, such as when Vegeta was able to sneak attack Son Goku during the end of their fight in the Buu Saga[164]. Despite some ki users being able to reach blasts that can destroy planets through charged attacks or techniques[165][166][167][168], they have not shown to be able to tank such blasts themselves[169][170][171], with attacks that have[172] destroyed several[173] planets in the series[174] always killing the character. Even characters such as Majin Buu's body cannot withstand the energy of a planet exploding[175]. Using ki volley attacks come with the caveat of their aim being rather poor, making it harder to hit moving targets. If ki users are at all possessed, even by accident, their true self will be sleeping within, with the possessor needing to awaken them[176]. Even if awoken, they are immobilized and unable to move without the possessor giving them the ability to[177], even with them wanting to wake up, they cannot do it[178]. Specific waves can can suppress a ki users power, and put their consciousness to sleep[179]. If Ki users stamina is broken, they will unable to be able to continue fighting for a short while, this will also cancel out any ki attack they were attempting to use, including ultimate's[180], this also adds on that ki users guards are down while charging ultimate attacks. Their stamina can also be broken if a character moves far too fast and surprise attacks them while they're charging their ki[181]. Ki Users can also be grabbed out of charging their attacks[182]. When ki users radiate their Ki at its highest, their body is also freed the most, making them open to attacks and making them easy to possess[183]. Ki attacks can be blocked by magma based attacks, such as even when Vegeta's strongest charged blast, the final flash, was being blocked by Magetta's magma[184]. Ki users have far lower reactions and speeds when they do not have their ki up or are not on guard, such as when Mai's sniper would've hit Goku Black if she didn't miss[185].
- Turtle Hermit Style Weaknesses: As the style does not incorporate any real fighting techniques[186], it has a heavy reliance on durability[187], stamina[188], muscles and speed[189], along with agility[190], thus anyone with superior statistics then them can easily overpower this style[191], along with this any character capable of using attacks that bypass defense altogether such as pressure point strikes can easily overcome a turtle hermit style user, even if they use extra forms and techniques to heighten their defenses[192]. Thus anyone with techniques that ignore statistics or are simply higher in statistics than a Turtle Hermit Style user can easily overcome this style.
- Saiyan Weaknesses: Saiyans cannot survive in the vacuums of space[193]. If the moon is at all destroyed, they cannot transform into Great Apes. Along with this if their tail is cut off or they have no tail, they will not be able to turn into a Great Ape. Saiyans used to having their tails can feel off balance with it removed.
- Unique Weaknesses: The fusion can only last for around 30 minutes, less if further transformations are used.
Note
- Some clips used on the profile come from an anime or movie due to the fact that some abilities from ki use shouldn't function much differently from how they can in canon, along with this sometimes the anime version/video game version of a scene will be used for cleaner visuals. Toriyama himself directly overlooks scenes in the anime and movies and gives Toei the thumbs up[197].
- The speed scaling for PLs are taken with a grain of salt as there are noticeable times where someone's speed isn't equal to their power, such as Burter being faster then Recoome and Jeice, along with Super Saiyan Grade 3 Trunks having his power greatly increased but his speed decreased.
Trivia
- Similar to all the other fusions, his name is a portmanteau of his two hosts (Goku and Vegeta).
- Gogeta has the largest personality changes through the course of the franchise. Compared to both his later incarnations, Fusion Reborn Gogeta never retained Vegeta's cockiness nor Goku's acts of mercy, and unlike the two counterparts, he finishes his opponents very quickly. In GT, he has a split personality. Throughout his battle with Omega Shenron, Gogeta is generally very cocky and playful, which is somewhat similar to Vegito except Gogeta seems to be more immature. In Super, while still extremely aggressive and serious like his Fusion Reborn counterpart, Gogeta still remains somewhat cocky, while also possessing new traits; instead of calling Goku by his human name, Gogeta refers to him as "Kakarot" despite using a name based on "Goku". Also, similar to Vegito, he is usually smiling during battles, and even uses Vegito's signature hand gesture to make enemies approach him.
- In Vegito's case however, ironically, the personality changes are inverted somewhat; while Super Vegito is cockier, and prone to toying around, Vegito Blue (Super Saiyan Blue) is much more serious, and aggressive in combat, using a very different combo string than what he did previously.
- Gogeta is the only fused Saiyan character (Potara or Fusion Dance) to successfully defeat a villain without the fusion wearing off. He defeats Janemba, Broly, Hearts and Crimson-Masked Saiyan without coming close to running out of time, whereas Gotenks defused and was later absorbed before he was able to defeat Super Buu, and Vegito pretended to be absorbed by Buu to save his friends, but the Fusion wore out before he could actually defeat Buu and Merged Zamasu.
- A fusion of Goku and Vegeta via the Fusion Dance is mentioned in the manga and anime when Goku and Vegeta are trapped in Buu's body. Goku suggests performing the dance in order to defeat Buu, but Vegeta declines, already knowing what it is and refusing to perform the poses or undergo any fusion at all.
- However, in Broly, Vegeta is unaware of the dance until mentioned by Goku as he heard it from Trunks. He realizes what the dance is and refuses to perform the dance at first as he believes it’s moronic but decides to be taught the dance as he had no idea on how to perform the fusion in order to defeat Broly and protect his family.
- In the English dub of Broly as well as later media, Gogeta sounds identical to Vegito and somehow retains Vegeta's English accent, while generally he's supposed to have Goku's accent instead as evident in mostly video games, especially Xenoverse 2. Despite this, the DLC 13 Base Gogeta still retains Vegeta's accent, nonetheless.
- In the English dub of Broly, Sean Schemmel uses his voice for King Kai instead of Goku when Veku is formed.
- A hidden audio file for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 shows that Gogeta can use the Kaio-ken.
- Gogeta battling against Broly has appeared in a few medias even before the release of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, particularly in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 openings.

Codex Statistics Questions
Q: What about the planetary feats in Dragon Ball?
A: Planetary feats are normally done through their strongest charged blast, where they can gather ki to shoot out blast far beyond what the character is normally capable of[198], with blasts capable of[199] seriously damaging/destroying[200] the Earth along with completely obliterating the opponent[201], though they themselves are never capable of leaving this unscathed.
Frieza throws a destroy the planet death ball attack but it doesn't destroy the planet. Goku then interestingly notes the reason the planet didn't blow up is because Frieza was too scared of getting caught in the blast[202] . Vegeta's final flash is noted it's going to destroy the planet and Perfect Cell, who is beyond Vegeta, couldn't tank the blast and had to dodge it last second or it would've killed him[203]. Goku's kamehameha was going to destroy the earth and Cell cannot tank this blast, needing to regenerate[204]. Semi-Perfect Cell explosion was consistently noted it was going to destroy the planet and Gohan and it killed Goku[205]. Ultimate Gohan dies to an attack that destroys the earth, his guard was up too since this was when he was fighting Super Buu[206]. Kid Buu shoots a blast trying to destroy the planet, with Vegeta noting he's going to take himself out with it if he lets it off[207]. In Dragon Ball GT, Great Ape Baby Vegeta shoots a super galick gun that he claims will destroy Earth, when Goku is hit by it, he is knocked out to the point that he can't move for a good while, Elder Kai and Shin later state that Baby is going to shoot another blast that will destroy the planet on, greatly injuring Baby if he's caught in the Blast and will kill everyone on the planet if done[208]. Frieza destroyed the entire earth, killing Vegeta in the process[209]. In the Dragon Ball Super Manga, Gohan tells Goku that he doesn't need to hold anything back and can go all out because anything that happens to the Earth can be restored with Dende and the Dragon Balls. Yet, none of Goku's all out attacks destroy the planet but just heavily causes shockwaves around it[210]. Semi-Perfect Cell unleashes a several blast that destroys several islands Android 16 notes that the attacks are just strong enough to not kill Android 18[211].
In the fight of Trunks vs. Mecha Frieza, who is far stronger than his final form, Mecha Frieza immediately goes for his strongest attack, the Supernova. In the original Z anime King Kai even states this is ten times stronger than the power he used on Namek:
- DBZ Kai Version[212].
- Original DBZ Anime Version[213]. The attack is directly noted that it could destroy the planet, but doesn't because Trunks catches it, when Mecha Frieza proceeds to detonate it, the explosion is massive but the planet is still intact, implying Frieza must target the core in order to destroy the planet.
